On the top 50 for Latin America. Not sure how. Food is standard. Not amazing. Service lovey and overall a just ok over priced meal (12,000 pesos). Had sushi, ceviche, rice and bao buns (which were not true bao). I would much rather find a great steak house for the same price and leave the sushi to others. I love tamago, grill unagi sushi, the chocolate dessert. The white fish entry with garlic sauce was unique. Matcha cheese cake was not impressive- it's matcha powder-a thin layer over three triangles of cheese cakes. Food wise, I would give to give three stars. I am a spoiled sushi eater. But what I loved most about the restaurant is the staff- I used present tense as I am writing in the restaurant. :) They are super friendly, can remember my preference, treat me like a friend, do not mind I ordered hot water to drink. I rarely ever leave bad reviews but damn I want to save everyone some money. This place is so overpriced and the sushi was tiny. One of the rolls tasted exactly like a roll I used to buy a Kroger. Alright, this is definitely one of the better sushi restaurants in Buenos Aires. Really high end sushi place w amazing presentation. Now... Forewarning: I only come here because I LOVE SUSHI, and can expense on my corporate card but for a $25 meal in BA, there are much better options. Also sushi here isn't "authentically BA" as it doesn't have cream cheese in it. BUTT, for a Cali girl who absolutely loves good sushi, this place is my SALVATION bc the sushi DOESNT have cream cheese & their food is very fresh. Ok, so we're going for Japanese/Asian in Buenos Aires...doesn't make sense I know! With Osaka ranking pretty high on Yelp and tripadvisor I thought it would be something great or at least out of the ordinary. Our table shared several dishes, for example balsamic truffle beef, a selection of sushi rolls, bao sandwiches to name some. The place fusions Asian and Peruvian cuisine, but I kinda missed out on the fusion...instead of getting a synergistic experience from the flavours it kinda went "pleh". Osaka was an incredible addition to my Buenos Aires trip! It had truly great sushi! This was some of the best sushi I've had in general, not just in Buenos Aires, and the cocktails there were super good too (the cardamom cocktail (the Aka Sour) was a particular highlight, very unique and really tasty). The ambiance and service were very great and I thought the prices were fantastic for the quality you're getting. Highly recommend making this stop if you enjoy Japanese food and want to change up the usual Argentinian meals. You cannot go wrong with any menu item in this restaurant. If you want to truly be transported to culinary heaven, try the ceviche trio, the passion fruit shrimp or the king crab sushi. Everything else is exceptional, including the perfectly attentive, warm yet discreet service. I was fortunate to be treated to my 2 dinners here, so can't comment on price but even though I'm sure it's pretty high for the area it's truly worth it for the quality. Only tiny downside is that, compared with the main courses, the desserts were not as wonderful to me (and I'm a dessert fan), but I can't take away a star because everything else is truly as good as it gets. read more

This place was incredibly unique. We had a very large work group that made a reservation to come here one evening. We made our reservation early in the evening before it got crowded. I appreciated that many of the servers spoke English, so it was easy to converse and ask questions. The food overall was pretty good, but all of it was weird. For example, an order of edamame, usually a standard vegetarian dish... came out with Katsuobushi or fish skin that is moving. While a cool addition that was something fun that we haven't seen before, it was not what we were planning to order as a few of our group are vegetarian, so they couldn't eat that. Our food came out in incredibly disjointed waves. Appetizers came out fairly quickly, but the food was brought out at such different times, we kept thinking that some people's dishes had just been forgotten. There were very few dishes that were vegetarian-friendly. Overall, the food was good, but for the price and the service, I don't think I would go back again. read more

The atmosphere is nice but the food is extremely overpriced. I ordered the Kobe Trufle Beef, shiromi pot, and some appetizers. The "Kobe beef" did not taste like what I expect Kobe beef should be. It should have more of a buttery taste and full of marble-y fatty goodness. Instead, it tasted more like beef soaked in soy sauce. The shiromi pot was good but not worth it, essentially $40 USD for a small bowl of sticky fried rice. Definitely, one of the best restaurants in Argentina, period. Is it expensive? Of course. But it's so worth it. It's a "tapas" kind of place, so you're supposed to order several different small dishes as opposed to one entree. You're guaranteed to be able to try several different flavors this way. It has very unique options if you compare it to the competition. The food is not strictly japanese, rather, it's japanese-peruvian fusion cuisine. Do try the desserts as well! Not worth the cost. We saw the warnings of how expensive this place was and we wish we would've minded them. For what we ordered it was not worth it. We ordered conservatively and it was still the most expensive meal of many outstanding meals in Argentina. My advice if you choose to go: Avoid the rolls. The amount of options with cream cheese is the warning that they aren't good or low in quality. We ordered the few options without cream cheese and I regret it. Not good. Stick to the ceviche and the other raw preparations but not the rolls. I cannot speak to the grilled side of the menu, we didn't want to keep adding to the bill after what we had. It's worth recognizing our server was fantastic. He offered to make recommendations for us and had the cost not been so off putting we would've taken him up on that offer. So if you have the money to spend, go that route. I'll tout that I *loved* the ceviche; it was the standard recipe and done to perfection. read more

The restaurant is nice and the service is good and friendly. Our waiter warned us that the portions were very small there. As we were about to order I noticed a family of three asking for the check while leaving an almost complete sushi roll untouched. They had a uncomfortable look. That should have been my warning that something was wrong. If you read other reviews, their sushi rolls are loaded with cream cheese...yuck! Not Japanese at all. I will provide US dollar prices as the currency exchange won't mean much to other travelers falling for this trap. We ordered a classic ceviche $26 us dollars. It was basic and uneventful. There were several pieces with tough stringy strands of fish that felt bad in the mouth, not of quality fish. 4 pieces of salmon sashimi $13 US dollars. This was reasonable as it was good. NYC price but decent. A fried rice with two small pieces of roast duck $26 US dollars, now this was upsetting to me because there was so much boring rice with small two pieces of proteins. My nephew had a roast pork lunch which was a decent portion of pork (very greasy) over two sticks of some sort of carbohydrate. The roast pork was tasty but at $36 is dollars it was not worth the price. $20 US dollars for a large Sapporo beer is insane but fine we were already inside and didn't want to ruin our lunch. When we got the bill we noticed that on top of being charged such ridiculous prices they added $5/ per person as table service (not gratuity); they charged us for coming in. This made me so mad because after traveling to many big cities and loving buenos Aires, this was a pisser, stupid and unnecessary pitiful bad gesture. Eating at Momofuku in NYC you know the caliber of talent in that kitchen, but this place wanting to be high end is just a sad attempt to mimic a good restaurant. Read the mixed reviews and read the menu carefully as I'm sure your estimated bill will go up exponentially after you've had greasy food all over your mouth. read more

After eating heavy Argentine meals/steak for a week straight, this place tasted like HEAVEN. Osaka is a Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant, located nicely in Palermo. My boyfriend and I had just arrived from Calafate and were starving. We dropped off our bags and went searching for food. We got there around 9pm and were seated at the bar after about half an hour. I would definitely recommend making a reservation - this place seems to fill up quickly. We ordered the ceviche clasico, crispy rice, Kobe yuzu, a roll, and duck gyoza. The food was absolutely amazing and fresh with such unique flavors. This place is a bit on the pricey side but the food was worth it. What an amazing find in the heart of Palermo. After having steak multiple times in just a few days we decided we needed a change in our diet. A local friend recommended Osaka as a top place for Japanese food. What made Osaka more interesting is that it is Peruvian Japanese. First things first in order to get in you must make a reservation - however you can do so via email and they amazingly responded very quickly. The only options available when we called were for the sushi bar or drinks on the second floor veranda. We made our reservation for 830pm but since Places here don't get poppin until around 930pm it was empty when we arrived but packed when we left. Now for the food - for our first plate we ordered the ceviche tasting which comes with 3 different types of ceviche - mild, sweet and sour, and picante. Definitely recommend this. Our second plate was Osaka futomaki - which was a crab roll topped with torched spicy grab mayo on top - this was ok, but we probably should've tried the sushi. And then our last plate which was the duck breast over stone. This was incredible the duck was sliced in sashimi style with tamarind sauce on the side. The meat was half cooked - which you individually browned the slices on the stone. All in all a great place to eat and affordable by NY standards. Not an argentine experience by any means but worth going after you've gotten your full of parillas. read more

A large can of Sapporo cost $25. The prices here are offensively high. Sure, the décor is pleasant and the food was ok, but I was in awe of how much nerve they had charging what they did. It's not a great feeling when you drop $200 US in this town and you walk away thinking the food was just ok and your overall experience subpar. I should also preface with the fact that we came here at the suggestion of a friend who said it was amazing AND I was with a non-seafood eater. Fortunately half of their menu consists of non-seafood dishes and a large portion of their sushi is cooked. The style of sushi is very much in the realm of California Style sushi, rolls, etc. but a bit less inventive. We started by asking our waiter for a couple of Tapas suggestions and were informed that the tapas were very large 6-8 portions and too big for a party of two. He then recommended that we get half orders... Okay. I was also informed that the ceviches would simply be too big for one person. So in the end we ordered a series of half-order tapas that were pretty unmemorable. I also ordered a hand roll or "cono" and instead received a cut roll. I tried to explain to the food runner that I wanted the hand roll and she then proceeded to argue with me. I let her leave it on the table untouched and a few minutes later the waiter ran over to apologize. I received the cut roll approximately 10 minutes after we ordered - once it was taken away - it took well over 30 minutes to receive a next dish. I understand that dining in Buenos Aires is an experience however in this case I felt like we were being punished for turning away an incorrect dish. The drinks, though delicious, are twice the price of anywhere else. I should point out that my drink (Suspiro Milanese) was probably the best thing I ordered. Go to Osaka if you're craving CA style sushi rolls at High-end prices and only if you're with a large group. We are sticking with the steak joints. read more

We were a group of 10 and the staff were very accommodating. The food was good as usual, the highlights are definitely the ceviches and fish carpaccios. One of the items we ordered was very poor, the crab filled pastry which was packed with cream cheese... you could barely taste the tiny strips of crab. Unfortunately too many dishes had Philadelphia cream cheese, which I found strange since it's not an ingredient found in Japanese nor Peruvian cuisine. I come here every time I visit Buenos Aires. It never fails. This is easily one of the best Peruvian fusion sushi places in South America (if not the World). Enjoy a great glass of wine with the Tiradito and leave it up to the waiter to decide what to bring you. The food is great! The restaurant is dark and hip. The service is excellent! (I have dual citizenship, from Argentina and the US, this review is mostly for the tourists). We went to this restaurant in a previous trip to Argentina three years ago and was solid five stars. This time (table of six) it was very good, but not five stars. Argentina is in the midst of one of its recurrent financial crisis, and it is almost impossible to import goods. Therefore the fish and spices quality that was there before is not quite present this time. Still, a superb experience. We were given a very good table and our waiters were super-nice. We had a shower of dishes, with good timing and excellent plating, as said, all good, but the wow that was there three years ago did not spark this time. Note: we got a sort of snooty hostess.
