I recently bought a Orvis Clearwater 9 foot five weight and my first time using the thing like seven or eight casts in the thing snaps in half just from casting the thing.I called Orvis to try and get them to fix the issue and they charge me $60 to repair the Rod when I've used it less than one time. Went to store on a recent Sunday. Front door locked and sign said knock to enter. Woman who appeared to be manager said short staffed. She and four others stood behind counter, no other shoppers. Stocks were minimal, none of usual racks of sale shirts. A pale comparison to previous Bellevue stores. Asked and was told no plans to reopen in Bellevue. The staff at this store is very competent and knowledgable about their clothing and outdoor products. The clothing has the best materials and quality in todays market. The attention to detail in the clothing design (stitching, buttons, features, etc.) is second to none. I give LESS THAN ZERO STARS for someone's VERY POOR decision to relocate this store from Bellevue to Seattle. SEATTLE IS A DUMP AND NOT A SAFE PLACE TO BE, especially for businesses due to Domestic Terrorist Rioters and druggies. Dude, aren't there any fly-fishing yelpers?!?!? Why am I the first person to yelp the Orvis store??? Ok, enough of my bewilderment. This is a nice store in the heart of the yuppieness known as Bellevue, WA (maybe that's why it hasn't been yelped!!) :) Anyway, Orvis is a top notch fly fishing supply company. This store can hook you up w/ all things fly fishing. They also have alot of men's and women's clothing, and other items as well. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. his review is not store specific, but rather for their online sales which doesn't have a way for me to review on Yelp. I've been dealing with credit card fraud and this company has been fantastic! I've got almost $800 in charges that were not mine and in less than 24 hours of me notifying them they are refunding all of my money. Not only that, but they have instituted a system to detect patterns in fraud. So not only do they have outstanding product but their customer service is stellar. They have taken a situation in which I feel so violated and managed to make me feel so much better. I wish the other company I'm dealing with were as responsive. Thank you, Orvis! tldr; I returned a coat to the Orvis Bellevue store on 12/28. Due to customer service incompetence, 24 days and 3 phone calls to customer service later, I still don't have a refund a refund. Orvis has my coat and my $306.91. I wouldn't normally give a 1-star review, but please beware of their predatory and dishonest return policy. I bought a coat online prior to Christmas, for just over $300. The coat didn't work out, so I brought it to the Bellevue store to return. Keaton was our sales rep. He was friendly enough, and encouraged us to make an exchange. However, my husband didn't see a coat he liked in the store so we asked for a refund. This is where things took a wild turn. Keaton claimed there was no logistical way he could give us a refund, because we had used paypal. He spent a long period of time calling a coworker and trying to figure out how to process our refund. In the end, he wound up filling out a paper triplicate form, and told me that our refund needed to be processed centrally by the company. (Spoiler alert: I later found out from central Orvis that this was wildly incorrect and he should have given me my refund on the spot). He also told me i would receive an emailed receipt regarding the refund, and that it would take 5-7 days for me to receive my refund. While he was doing his best and genuinely trying to figure this out, my hunch was that this was not the correct process. I should have listened to my spidey sense, but I walked out the door without the coat, and without a refund. Fast forward 2 weeks. No emailed receipt, no refund on my PayPal. I called Orvis customer service and discovered there was NO REASON to not have refunded me at the store. Further, it was discovered that the Bellevue store did not send the coat back with a return tracking number, so they had no way to track the return down at all. The very helpful and kind central rep called the Bellevue store and after nearly 30 minutes trying to find out from them what had happened, only to wind up hanging up in frustration. She was able to see that the coat was sitting in their warehouse, but there was no tracking or link to my account or refund. She said the coat needed to quarantine for 2 weeks before anyone could open it and even begin to the process of linking the coat to me and my order. She advised me to wait a few more days. Fast forward a week, and I still did not hear anything. I called Orvis back again and discovered that the coat was still sitting in the warehouse unopened, and they would not process my refund until it was opened. Fast forward another week or so, and I still did not have my refund. I called Orvis today, and they said "it's in the system" waiting to be processed for a refund. This customer service rep (unlike the previous 2) was rude and condescending, telling me "WOW, you REALLY need a LOT of information spelled out for you!" when I asked her to please explain what "in the system" means and what "system" that might be referring to. In total, I've spent over 1.5 hours on the phone with customer service, across nearly a month, and Orvis is still just sitting on over $300 of my dollars which they have no right to hold onto, because the folks at Orvis didn't understand how to process a refund, and then royally messed up how to return an item to their corporate center. I'd strongly recommend you not make a purchase from Orvis unless you know 100% certainty that you won't need to return it. read more

Make sure you call ahead to get their hours and if they are going to be open. They don't keep the hours as posted on the door. I have attempted to spend my money there twice there in the past month and both times they were closed during the regular hours. Today because of the election. Really? Orvis has been in downtown Bellevue for years; even before that area became the tower of conspicuous consumption. In many ways Orvis fits in, as it does have clothing befitting the lifestyle it tends to create with its catalogs. Still, some of their clothing products are outstanding: their Invincible Extra socks wear like iron. But their fly fishing gear and area are incredible. They know their stuff and can talk equipment and technique. Orvis gear gets better every year, with some of their rods and reels among the best in class. Leland, their now retired fly fishing manager, was a treasure of information and friendly support. They have a series of events through the year with presentations, free food, music, and hanging out with other fly fishers. read more

I used to go to the Orvis store at Bridgeport in Tigard when I lived in Oregon, and it was always a great experience. I recently moved to Washington and decided to go to the Bellevue store for the first time today. I was incredibly disappointed. Not the same experience at all and not what I expect from Orvis. I felt like I was annoying the staff member the entire time. I was the only one in the store, and he didn't even acknowledge that I walked in and just sort of stood there doing whatever he was doing. It felt kind of awkward. Basically I couldn't find the barbless nymph hooks that I was looking for on the wall. So, I asked him about them and he informed me that Orvis didn't sell that kind of hook. But I've purchased those hooks in the past from Orvis stores, and given that I already felt like an annoyance, I didn't want to press the issue further. It was basically easier for me to move on and find them elsewhere, which I did. The experience was a pretty dramatic let down after developing a relationship with Orvis in Tigard and their staff where I could count on not only civilty and professionalism, but also knowledge and exchange of experiences and recommendations. I have always loved Orvis products and respect what they do as a company, but I am not likely to visit the shop in Bellevue again. Driving loyal customers to online sales or other retailers really isn't the best strategy. read more

Even if I wasn't a fan of their brand (I am), I would still be a huge fan of their Bellevue store. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable, engaging, and upbeat. They genuinely want you to feel as passionate about fly fishing as they do. I've purchased a lot of their gear and am consistently pleased. What truly impresses me, however, is that I feel they're committed to building a community. They frequently have customer appreciation events complete with free food and drinks, workshops, and classes. If you like to fly fish or want to shop for someone else who does, go to Orvis in Bellevue. Highly recommended. read more

This was an incredible store experience for me. I'm new to fly fishing and paid three visits to the Bellevue store and talked with Roger, Will and Jason to get three perspectives on the equipment I'll need for this new hobby. Each of them were extremely patient with me and I never felt like they were trying to up-sell me on anything. They listened to my requirements/desires and showed me feasible options. The store looks VERY high end, but their prices are extremely reasonable. I like the fact that Orvis has their own brand with equipment made to their high quality specs (e.g. waders, rods, sling packs, etc.). They also have many opportunities for customers to immerse themselves into this sport with either free seminars/classes or for a moderate fee. Their customer satisfaction policy is top notch. You can spend a lot of money on high-end gear, but compared to some fly fishing shops, they have options to fit various budgets. I'm looking forward to a long relationship with this company. Update: I've attended multiple Thursday night seminars and both the Fly Fishing 101 and 201 classes.
