For many years, I would occasionally get tension headaches here and there. Then for about a year, I had a tension headache daily. It would be alleviated with advil but nothing else. I tried acupuncture (which helped some, but I still had headaches. I was referred to Dr. Pine by my dentist. I will admit I was hesitant to proceed at first with the Ortho Stop, mainly because of the price. Dr. Pine recommended PT along with the device, but I initially opted for just doing PT. I would get some relief from PT, but not at every session and I was going 2-3 times a week. I finally told my husband that I could not stand the headaches any longer and wanted to proceed with the Ortho Stop. It is a fairly intensive process with 2 different devices and many visits for adjustments, but honestly, it was the best decision! My headaches subsided fairly quickly. I'm not sure of the current price/cost. Arrive on-time/exact time- not minutes earlier or later than the exact appointment time. Dr. Pine was professional and explained details for what he would do and checking your teeth and symptoms. Before any device is made, he will send you to a physical therapist he recommends. The place he recommended me to was New Life Physical Therapy which is now permanently closed. PT didn't help me. I ended up not returning to Dr. Pine's office and never got any calls for follow-up. I am thankful to have found Dr. Pine!! I have been developing TMJD over the past 10 years, I am an Executive with Type-A personality and high intense work schedule. Apparently I've been clinching heavily at night, during the pandemic I started to break multiple teeth at the root level and wind-up with several extractions, teeth sensitivity, jaw, neck and shoulder pain along with severe migraines and eye twitching. You should see his patience in adjusting my mouth-pieces, clinching, grinding, laying down on my back, on my sides, etc... to look at all situation and let gravity do its work while sleeping while protecting me from the clinch and grind. I have been in my devices so far about a month and I absolutely love them. The ortho-stop delivered some incredible immediate release to the area - zero pain and issues with it. I have been able to sleep very well without bother either! I deeply regret my decision to use Pine's appliance. I previously had perfectly aligned teeth but using the appliance gave me an open bite. I've gotten a number of expert dental opinions and the general consensus is that it's difficult to fix. The options are 1) jaw surgery or 2) braces which may or may not resolve the issue. I loved the mouthpiece so much after the first few months of use that I ordered a second backup mouthpiece just in case something happened to the first. The intensity of my clenching and grinding at night has been reduced by about 95%, and I give most of the credit to the Ortho Stop appliance that Dr. Pine made for me. Before I got the appliance, I would wake up with teeth sensitive to hot and cold because of the grinding and jaw muscles so sore I could barely eat because of the clenching (not to mention the headaches). At this point, it has been at least two months since I wore the Ortho Stop while sleeping only because I don't feel like I need it anymore. I still occasionally wake up with mildly sore jaw muscles, but it is a small nuisance now rather than having a huge negative impact on the quality of my life like it was before I started wearing the Ortho Stop. While I was wearing the Ortho Stop, I did make some minor lifestyle changes aimed at reducing my overall stress level. That is the only reason I say the Ortho Stop gets "most" of the credit. I think it would be unwise to hang all your hopes on the Ortho Stop without also trying other ways to reduce teeth clenching and grinding. Dr. Pine highly recommends that use of the Ortho Stop be accompanied with visits to a physical therapist with experience helping people with teeth clenching, and I think that shows that he recognizes a balanced approach is best. Dr. Pine is the BEST dentist for TMJ and all the related issues. I've been grinding my teeth and clenching my jaw since I was 5 yrs old. Other dentists gave me a nightguard and said that's all they could do...but I was still grinding my cheeks, wearing down my teeth and had bad jaw clicking and sometimes jaw pain.
