The self-appointed king of events is back at it with another venue review. I checked out Orpheum Theatre for the first time for the Grand Kyiv Ballet's performance of Snow White. Located downtown, they don't have a parking lot so you either have to pay for metered parking on the street or park in a parking garage. Lack of accessible (and free) parking is usually a detriment for me, but this theatre is so amazing that I can't help but give them five stars. There are several Orpheum Theatre's across the country. This one is stunning on the inside and outside (especially on the inside). Going through security was quick and painless and I was able to bring an empty water bottle (gotta stay hydrated in Phoenix). Upon entering the venue, I was taken aback by the old school charm of this theatre. The architecture is absolutely stunning, both in the lobby areas and the theatre itself. Pretty much every city has an old school theatre, this is Phoenix's version (and it's an amazing one). In terms of concessions, even though I didn't by any, I noticed that they have your typical full bar featuring adult beverages and soft drinks. You can't get a full meal here, but they do have some snacks. All of the ushers and everyone I interacted with was friendly. Orpheum Theatre holds various events ranging from ballets like the one I attended to concerts to comedy shows and more. I can't wait to return for my next event!

    Lovely details everywhere

The orpheum theater in downtown Phoenix is absolutely beautiful. If you ever have the chance to take a tour, be sure to do it. The hallway is gorgeous with so many details everywhere, and the staircase is a stunner. Make sure to look underneath the staircase for the pearly peacocks. The theater itself is large and it has the old fashioned organ in front. There's so many details on the wall, and across the ceiling which is painted to look like the sky, clouds roll by. There's a balcony, where the resident ghost hangs out, too. Yes, this place is supposed to be quite haunted. We were there to see The Muppets Christmas Carol, which is a fundraiser for the friends of the orpheum. When we arrived the organist is playing old timey music. It was really great. It was so much fun seeing the movie and eating popcorn and just having a great time. I highly recommend coming to see a show here, and if possible, getting a tour. During Halloween season, they have a ghost tour done in the dark - - you just use a flashlight - and it is super fun.

The Orpheum Theater in Downtown Phoenix is a historic landmark. It was built in 1929. In the 1950's the name changed to the Paramount Theater. As a kid growing up in Phoenix in the 1950's, the Fox, Paramount, Strand Theaters were memorable for family weekend fun. I have been to the refurbished Orpheum for a few events. This evening I saw the Father of Italian Blues, Zucchero! Great concert in a beautiful venue. I don't understand Italian, however the music speaks for itself!

This theatre is breathtaking! I had tickets to see the Bugs Bunny Symphony played by the Phoenix Symphony a few nights ago and I was blown away. There was a small line to get in as they were checking bags. There was a sign up front stating bag restrictions so we ran back to the car to put our bags back since they were a little bigger then what the sign portrayed. Once it was our turn to get checked, we noticed people with big bags were being let in... Once inside, the ushers showed us our way. We had row 5 on the B side so we were pretty much up front. The show started promptly and we had such a great time. During intermission, we picked up a pricey canned soda (Pepsi) for $4.50. I saw a few water fountains but these of course had long lines. The theatre itself is very beautiful and the ceiling is one of a kind. I would love to come back again for another show. Police was present both inside and out.

Gorgeous venue. Small and intimate. Came here for a comedy show, Sarah Millican, and it was an awesome venue for her. Intimate and cozy. Comfortable seats. Plenty of seats. I love the ceiling has the sky projected onto it and it moves you could see the moon, the Milky Way, a shooting star, or more. If you have a chance to see something at this venue, you should.

Beautiful historic theatre in downtown Phoenix. The staff were incredible, very welcoming and friendly. The theatre itself is beautiful. We came for one of their movie nights to watch Mean Girls, hosted by Friends of the Orpheum and had a wonderful time.

Top tier performance venue with 1929 Arizona history! This venue has the best for acoustic not possible in a stadium concert setting. There are no bad seats here. We've enjoyed Stomp and Dwight Yoakam performances here. Parking options are excellent, the Handicap access is good, however; Handicap seating options are limited.

Went for the showing of Muppet Christmas Carol on December 23rd, having never been to the Orpheum before. The theatre is very cool, staff super nice, very relaxed environment. Everything was very clean. An organist played Christmas music as we waited for the movie to start. We sat towards the front to the far right and still had a great view of the movie screen.

How have I never been here before? It's a gorgeous theater. I loved the decor and the floating clouds on the ceiling. The seats were comfortable and it seemed like you were a bit less packed in than most venues. We came to see the comedian Henry Cho and spent an enjoyable evening here. It's not a huge theater so getting in and exiting the building were fast and easy.

Seating: upper box seats to down in the pit.

Good evening Yelpers..well, hands down. This is a repeat for next year for sure! I got some tickets to see "The Greatest Showman Live" Awesome! Customers service was knowledgeable and very helping. The theatre had great lighting. Seats were well placed and structure was built very well to built. Awesome show and great place to view a show!!! Thank you Orpheum Theatre!!!!

What a beautiful venue and there's lots of nearby parking that is reasonably priced. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Great place to see a show!

Great experience seeing a movie in concert last year. I've seen this movie a lot but seeing it this way took it to a whole new level. Seating was very comfortable, since I'm on the larger side, which is usually hard to find when going to concerts of any kind. There really aren't any bad seats. Highly recommend checking a show out there.

What a fantastic historic venue! Went to see Whitney Cummings show - hilarious! Plenty of seating and parking! We will be back!

Ask the Community - Orpheum Theatre

For popular artist do people rush the stage and if so when?

Not in my experience. This is more of a cultural venue, even when the artist more "hard core". Not a raucous free-for-all type place.

Located downtown, this charming theater puts on various performances (plays, musicals, and The Empire Strips Back (a Star Wars burlesque parody) to name a few. Parking is notoriously bad downtown but here's a cheat code: if you park at the Arizona Center's parking garage, the Herberger will validate your parking ticket for a deep discount off of the fee. It's not free but it's a deep discount. Just talk to the box office and they will take care of you. The theater itself is a charming, old-school theater. We enjoyed the event and the seats were relatively comfortable. We were on the upper level and didn't have any issues seeing the stage. In the lobby, you can find some concessions selling drinks and snacks. I went with a beer. You're allowed to bring it into the theater, but there are no cup holders. Upon leaving, I found out that for certain parts of the year, there are free concerts in the grassy area outside of the theater. I'll definitely have to check that out at some point, and also come back for another perfromance!

I like the fact that there are daring enough to challenge the audience with nudity (both male and female) in a very tasteful artistic way and I'd give them high regard for that. It honestly reminds me a lot of what the Greeks used to do through the history of their plays and performances. There were a few minor things that I had disagreements about when I went. First off it may have just been that performance but the play I attended just didn't see them that well written. Again it could've been a bad play on this attendance and it doesn't mean I won't give it another chance to see if the writing of gotten a little better. On a positive side, it was good to see them use actors who are new to the acting experience to get them seasoning. So when you go you will definitely see local upcoming talent on stage. The other negative part I have was the sound quality. They had to use headset with microphone which I thought took away from the experience of watching one on stage. There are a lot of feedback issues, dropped sound quality, and the likes which took away from the experience. I think though this too could be rectified with a little work backstage for the next time. I would like to go again and see what they have to offer. Definitely This place gives you a whole new perspective to the idea of theater which I think is a good idea. It is a pricey ticket though so be forewarned.

Located in downtown Phoenix, this venue, you guessed it, houses the Phoenix Symphony. Though that's not all. They also host ballet performances and opera performances, too. I've stopped by three times for matinee performances on Sunday: the Mask of Zorro (opera), a Dia de Los Muertos performance (symphony), and Rick Steves' Europe (symphony). Since this is downtown we're talking, parking isn't easy. You'll either have to park in a garage/surface lot or on the street. I'm morally opposed to paying for parking, but I've had to shell out a couple of dollars to use metered parking ten minutes or so from the venue. Minus the parking difficulties, the rest of the experience is pretty awesome. You go through metal detectors to get in, but the line moves fast. They have complimentary water, which is always a nice touch. There are multiple areas to buy refreshments and snacks (beer, wine, liquor, soft drinks, desserts, coffee, etc.). And most importantly, the theater is beautiful. Pretty much every seat in the house is solid. And the prices tend to be affordable. They also have a nice variety of performances throughout the year. As a lover of the arts, Symphony Hall will continue to be a frequent entertainment option for me. If you've never seen a symphony performance, ballet, or opera, I highly encourage you to give it a try!

It was a fun event, the hired actors were good and the food was decent. I don't know if the Senior Center provided the food, or if it was part of the show cost. Regardless... if you've never been to one of these murder mystery shows, it can be extremely confusing. The actors gave each table a hard book folder with notes in it, they chose one person from each table to be a "suspect" of the murder. Not a whole lot of explanation goes in to what each suspect is supposed to do. You really have to read the notes in the folder. I was chosen as a suspect and I needed to say specific things when all the suspects were interrogated up in front of the audience, on a microphone. "Anxiety spike!" A couple times, everyone in the room has to go around to other tables, or mill around the room, asking questions to try and figure out who the killer is. It gets very convoluted. I noticed that some people just gave up because it was too confusing. There should be a little bit more explanation as to what people are supposed to do, ESPECIALLY the people from the audience who are chosen as suspects, or people who have NEVER been to a murder mystery themed show.
