Over the last couple of decades, I've seen various shows at the Orpheum Theatre. Parking can be very difficult, and deters me from seeing a show here if I can avoid it. I'll see shows that are touring if they have a spectacular stage presence like Anastasia; which was truly remarkable! What an absolutely gorgeous venue! As I walked in, I felt like I was stepping into a different era. I was so impressed and in awe with the beautiful Spanish architecture with all the intricate murals, moldings, gold accents, arches, and hidden decorative peacocks. We went to watch The Phoenix Symphony performing with Troupe Vertigo: Cirque Carmen. It was a magnificent combination of orchestral music with aerial acts, dance, and circus style performances. The seats were very comfortable and the quality of acoustics was fantastic. Make sure you take a clear bag or a small purse (8.5" x 5.5") as they do have a bag policy. Large purses and backpacks are not allowed. They also use metal detectors and have security screening. I'd definitely love to go see another performance here. read more

The Orpheum is a gorgeous theater in downtown Phoenix. Arrive an hour early to find parking and to make your way to your seat. You don't want to be late because once the doors are closed, you will wait in the lobby for a break in the program before the ushers will allow you to enter. Thankfully I'm not speaking from experience, but my mom clued me in that this had happened to her in the past. There is NO parking at or with the theater venue. You will have to be resourceful and find other options. Again, arrive at least an hour early to find parking and make your way to the venue. The streets around the theater will be packed. Car traffic will be at a standstill and lots of pedestrians will hold up traffic at every lighted intersection. We used a parking app called SpotHero to reserve a space at the hotel caddy corner to the theater. Despite reserving and paying for the space in advance and arriving early, we were stuck in traffic circling around the block to get to the valet drop off at the front of the hotel. It took us over 30 minutes to be served by the valet because there was a long line of cars hoping to use the service. Once at the theater, there were two lines around the block on both sides of the building! These were people lining up to get their will call tickets and others lining up to show their ticket to go inside. The queue took another 20 minutes. Thankfully, we made it inside to our seats right on time. However, it seems management decided to start the show late because of the large number of people still waiting outside in line to get inside!!! We saw the Phoenix Symphony perform on this occasion. One thing that was extraordinary about the performance was the presence of a harpsichord on stage. This instrument was often used during the Renaissance and Baroque ages. Since the concert we saw had a lot of Baroque period pieces, this instrument was an amazing addition to the performance. The conductor was from another state and had collaborated with the local symphony in advance to put on this unique holiday arrangement. He had a biography on the website and a link to a video where he discussed his collaboration and musical arrangement. He was so passionate about the work he did. I was excited to see the performance, and he did not disappoint. The symphony was on stage, so it was somewhat difficult to see them. We brought binoculars to get a better view, but unfortunately the harpsichord and the pianist playing it were behind the conductor, so you couldn't really see her play. I wished that they had her up front and turned to the side or had a camera projecting her fingers playing the instrument so that we could see it closer. There were several performers that cane and went from the stage during the show. The soloists were beautiful and projected well throughout the hall. I love the beauty of this old venue, but it does require advanced planning to get to a performance in a timely manner. Keep that in mind, and you will surely enjoy the show. read more

The self-appointed king of events is back at it with another venue review. I checked out Orpheum Theatre for the first time for the Grand Kyiv Ballet's performance of Snow White. Located downtown, they don't have a parking lot so you either have to pay for metered parking on the street or park in a parking garage. Lack of accessible (and free) parking is usually a detriment for me, but this theatre is so amazing that I can't help but give them five stars. There are several Orpheum Theatre's across the country. This one is stunning on the inside and outside (especially on the inside). Going through security was quick and painless and I was able to bring an empty water bottle (gotta stay hydrated in Phoenix). Upon entering the venue, I was taken aback by the old school charm of this theatre. The architecture is absolutely stunning, both in the lobby areas and the theatre itself. Pretty much every city has an old school theatre, this is Phoenix's version (and it's an amazing one). In terms of concessions, even though I didn't by any, I noticed that they have your typical full bar featuring adult beverages and soft drinks. You can't get a full meal here, but they do have some snacks. All of the ushers and everyone I interacted with was friendly. Orpheum Theatre holds various events ranging from ballets like the one I attended to concerts to comedy shows and more. I can't wait to return for my next event! read more

The orpheum theater in downtown Phoenix is absolutely beautiful. If you ever have the chance to take a tour, be sure to do it. The hallway is gorgeous with so many details everywhere, and the staircase is a stunner. Make sure to look underneath the staircase for the pearly peacocks. The theater itself is large and it has the old fashioned organ in front. There's so many details on the wall, and across the ceiling which is painted to look like the sky, clouds roll by. There's a balcony, where the resident ghost hangs out, too. Yes, this place is supposed to be quite haunted. We were there to see The Muppets Christmas Carol, which is a fundraiser for the friends of the orpheum. When we arrived the organist is playing old timey music. It was really great. It was so much fun seeing the movie and eating popcorn and just having a great time. I highly recommend coming to see a show here, and if possible, getting a tour. During Halloween season, they have a ghost tour done in the dark - - you just use a flashlight - and it is super fun. read more

The Orpheum Theater in Downtown Phoenix is a historic landmark. It was built in 1929. In the 1950's the name changed to the Paramount Theater. As a kid growing up in Phoenix in the 1950's, the Fox, Paramount, Strand Theaters were memorable for family weekend fun. I have been to the refurbished Orpheum for a few events. This evening I saw the Father of Italian Blues, Zucchero! Great concert in a beautiful venue. I don't understand Italian, however the music speaks for itself! read more

Gorgeous venue. Small and intimate. Came here for a comedy show, Sarah Millican, and it was an awesome venue for her. Intimate and cozy. Comfortable seats. Plenty of seats. I love the ceiling has the sky projected onto it and it moves you could see the moon, the Milky Way, a shooting star, or more. This theatre is breathtaking! I had tickets to see the Bugs Bunny Symphony played by the Phoenix Symphony a few nights ago and I was blown away. There was a small line to get in as they were checking bags. There was a sign up front stating bag restrictions so we ran back to the car to put our bags back since they were a little bigger then what the sign portrayed. Once it was our turn to get checked, we noticed people with big bags were being let in... Once inside, the ushers showed us our way. We had row 5 on the B side so we were pretty much up front. The show started promptly and we had such a great time. During intermission, we picked up a pricey canned soda (Pepsi) for $4.50. I saw a few water fountains but these of course had long lines. The theatre itself is very beautiful and the ceiling is one of a kind. I would love to come back again for another show. Police was present both inside and out. read more

What a beautiful theater! As to be expected in this area, you'll need to plan parking but there are quite a few garages around. I saw a sign for Orpheum parking at $20 right by the door but was cash only, but close garages were similar prices and only slightly farther. The bathrooms are HUGE and were clean. They seemed eerily quiet though, other than people's bathroom noises. I wonder if there's a way to pipe in music? They had a pretty extensive selection of canned pre-made cocktails. I'd prefer a few specialty drinks made there but I'm guessing that may have to do with liquor licensing. read more

Top tier performance venue with 1929 Arizona history! This venue has the best for acoustic not possible in a stadium concert setting. There are no bad seats here. We've enjoyed Stomp and Dwight Yoakam performances here. Parking options are excellent, the Handicap access is good, however; Handicap seating options are limited. read more

Saw a Baroque Christmas concert by the Phoenix Symphony here and it was a great experience! The theater is really cool inside from the entrance way all the way to inside the hall. It has a feel of yesteryear, but very clean and nice. The ushers and staff were incredibly inviting and friendly helping us find our seats. How have I never been here before? It's a gorgeous theater. I loved the decor and the floating clouds on the ceiling. The seats were comfortable and it seemed like you were a bit less packed in than most venues. We came to see the comedian Henry Cho and spent an enjoyable evening here. Went for the showing of Muppet Christmas Carol on December 23rd, having never been to the Orpheum before. The theatre is very cool, staff super nice, very relaxed environment. Everything was very clean. An organist played Christmas music as we waited for the movie to start. We sat towards the front to the far right and still had a great view of the movie screen. read more

Theatre was nice, and taken care of. I came here for the first time for a comedy show and it was overall a good experience. The staff was meh, and not on the same page. Front guy let us in and pointed us in direction of our door, so we went that way and some old lady said she doesn't take anyone's word and demanded our tickets we weren't trying to sneak back in the back but all good maybe she was having a rough day. I enjoy coming to this theatre from time to time. Orpheum Theatre is located in downtown Phoenix and can hold up to 1,400 people. It was built in the 20's and has a Spanish Baroque architecture style to it. It was restored in the 80's and hosts musicals, ballets, concerts and special events. I come here each winter to watch the Warren Miller ski films. The seats are pretty comfy and the theater isn't hard to find. Because the theatre is located in downtown, parking for the Orpheum is metered parking anywhere near the building. If you want to grab a bite, there are plenty of food options nearby. read more

Lovely venue in a lot of ways. Feels like a throw back to earlier times, for obvious reasons. Seating is comfortable and ample and the staff is friendly. One drawback is the concessions. I have limited expectations for food and drink at a place like this. I get the challenges of serving do many people in a short time, but $20 for a warm bottle of Pepsi and a stale box of popcorn is a little hard to swallow. At least get us cold drinks at $6.50 a pop. And ideally something better than Pepsi and Starry. If I come back I'll stick to water, but otherwise a nice experience. read more

My favorite theater in town. The only theater here that reminds me of being back in NY. I wanted to update my review because my prior review seemed rather puny without much information. The Orpheum is a delightful gift to the senses and a big part of downtown PHX history. I also wanted to add that you should check out the small museum upstairs that include some original Ziegfeld costumes. What an historic treat! Every time I go I notice more details in the art work and tile decor. It is lovely. Don't forget to look up at the ceiling every now and again inside the theater. Well look at the ceiling and all thw details and statues/artwork in the lobby too. There is plenty of parking around the theater with several close by lots and an easy walk to the Light Rail. Call and ask event fee rates. It is usually anywhere between 20-60 dollars depending how busy downtown is. I believe in the summer they still give tours. Worth it and free, or at least it was still free last summer. To address some of the misinformation and questions online regarding some other of the few negative reviews and also information before you go. All city buildings as of 2024 except one have clear bag or small clutch purse policies now so be prepared. If you are going anywhere in town you should know the local bag policies. Pretty standard in today's world. So you know before you go. This venue is an historic building from the 1920s. And yes, some people do go just for the venue. That is part of any theater experience. The venue is fantastic! Simply gorgeous with amazing" art work, history, and details. It was renovated and saved about 20 years ago from possible destruction. Thank heavens for that. Also, very strange people in the comments complaining about the bathrooms. Ummmm, they can't just go out and build you a new bathroom day of. ( sarcasm) nor can they add on to an historic building like they added bathrooms at Gammage a few year's back, there are building code laws. Also, there are actually more than one set of restrooms to the reviewer who shared actual misinformation. The one main bathroom, that most guests use, is on the lower level and it is huge. It is an old school bathroom and twice if not three sizes bigger than woman's bathrooms at all other nearby theater/venues that hold even more guests, So one huge equals three smaller and the theaters nearby only have two. soooooooooooooooooooo..............The walk is about 40 steps staircase to staircase across the lower lobby to get to the bathroom. The venue holds about 1500 guests. So the comments on some of the reviews about bathrooms and how far apart they are is so weird. Not only are those comments confusing but totally inaccurate. Not sure where else they are going to see a show with no wait for the bathroom and if you descent the opposite staircase it is literally less than 40 steps to get to the restroom. Now the men's room is a different story. I have heard is not as large of course. However, men never seem to have to wait for the bathroom. Am I right ladies? lol Also, the woman's bathroom is spectacular with art work and furniture inside. Fancy. Make sure to check it out. The venue has three bars set up usually for an event, on all three levels unless the balcony is closed and not being seated for a show, a coat check and a few hearing devices to check out if needed. Earplugs are also complimentary in the coat check closet. If you drink too much and get drunk yes you might get asked to leave. That is pretty standard. Some places even have specific staff that are alcohol enforcers nowadays. It is not the venue's fault you are irresponsible and exhibiting aggressive bad behavior. Did I really have to write that? Wow! Plenty of good places to eat nearby just snacks inside the theater for sale. I hope that clears things up and you have a lot of information to enjoy your visit/event. I hope you fall in love with the Orpheum theater, help preserve it for future generations, and love it as much as I do. read more

It was our first time there. Hands down!!!!! The parking was a breeze. (Yes you read it correctly). $20 and 4 minutes walk. The security was very pleasant. Heads up only small purses are allowed. The building is magnificent and absolutely stunning. All of the employees were friendly and sweet. The show was amazing as well. Cirque Holiday was fun to watch. The place is nice. Parking in the phoenix area around the theatre is $25. They have snacks and drinks including alcohol. There are 2 sets of bathrooms one on the lower level (Men's 5 urinals and 4 toilets with stalls) woman's room I would assume would have at least 4 to match the men's room. On the balcony level there is an additional set of bathrooms though a bit smaller (men's 2 stalls and 4 urinals). The theatre was built in 1929 and looks amazing. We saw the greatest showman it was good but I didn't like that the entire first hour had nothing to do with the greatest showman. Music was beautiful though. Run time was about 1 hour 50 minutes. read more

We bought tickets to the "Champions of Magic" show which was a great time! Getting here was an easy and short drive from the West Valley. Parking was $10 (cash only!) in the garage next to the theatre. There were other options for $15 if you didn't have cash also nearby and open 24/7. The theatre is stunning. The architecture/design is so unique - almost gothic like and the perfect setting for seeing an event here. There are a lot of stairs (multiple floors and very steep) so keep that in mind. I did see elevators for those who truly need assistance. The bathrooms are large and have full length mirrors which I loved. So many stalls as well and plenty of space to freshen up. The seats in this theatre are not meant for an oversized body. We were comfortable but they could be very snug to some. Loved that they were crushed velvet. The attendants, ushers and staff were very accommodating and happy to answer questions about the history during intermission. I felt $4 for a decent sized bottle of water was also a fair price to pay. Before the doors opened, we were able to explore and saw an advertisement to the ghost tours they're offering for $25 each. We bought tickets and look forward to a return visit in a couple weeks. The performance was a lot of fun, and we really enjoyed our date night in the city. read more

FYI this is my first and only yelp review. Went to the Netflix special a few nights ago, overall Trevor did awesome was great to see him! But the Venue manger or whoever she was, ruined our night. We were 5 minutes late to the show, within that 5 minutes they gave away our front row seats and said tough shit because we were 5 minutes late. Which at some level we could understand because they're filming, but the manager or whoever the lady with short hair was. Was so nasty to us I never want to go to this venue again, she was extremely unprofessional. Whilst they're threatening to kick us out after we paid $500 for tickets and our options were sit in the very very back by the cameras or get kicked out. Overall we would've been fine if that women wasn't so awful to us. She ruined all of our nights, again we loved the show... The women who we dealt with was completely unapologetic and I can't stress enough just absolutely nasty, rude, overall terrible to us, on our birthdays... Imagine paying $600 come in 5 minutes late, and your met with the worst customer service in the universe actually that's an understatement. read more

This is a really cool theater, I have been here a few times for various shows and also took one of the "ghost tours" they have around Halloween. The history behind the place is so interesting and the overall design and decor make for a great atmosphere. Staff working here have always been very friendly, the ushers are super helpful and always contribute to a great experience overall. I would highly recommend checking out a show that appeals to you here, or taking a historical tour. read more

As my 50th Review for the year 2023, I had to select a recent visit to one of the foremost theatre venues in the Valley, not to mention, one of the best and beautiful in the country - the Orpheum Theatre. This incredibly ornate and luxurious work of art. The structure was Built in a Spanish Baroque style, that elaborate frescos and dados as an essential part of the overall aesthetic experience. But, did you know that there are 17 Orpheum Theatres in the country - that's an intriguing chronicle worth researching! Our recent visit was to see and experience Pink Martini perform with our one-and-only Phoenix Philharmonic Orchestra - a fantabulous combination of music which enthralled every spectator. If you've not been to this theatre, it's a must. It's beautiful, elegant and enchanting - and the acoustics are magnificent. Long live the Phoenix Orpheum Theatre! read more

Been here multiple times for various events, the staff is always friendly- the lines are managed as well as they can be, and it's a beautiful, historic venue. If you're interested in attending an event here, I'd recommend hiring a driver or getting dropped off so you don't have to deal with parking. Plenty of great restaurants and bars nearby before or after whatever the Orpheum has to offer! read more

What a classically beautiful theater!! I felt like I was transported to another century. It was the PERFECT place to see Rupi Kaur for the first time. The staff was very kind and helpful. I also liked the variety of alcoholic drinks available, I got a canned gin & tonic and it was delicious. I wish the parking situation were better, but what can you expect downtown? While it's a beautiful theater, the sight lines for a performance are not too good. We went to the Champions of Magic show and sat in the 10th row. We both had to keep moving our heads in order to see past the people sitting in front of us. And no, they weren't tall at all. At the intermission, we luckily were able to move to two empty seats in the handicapped row. From there, it was much easier to see the show. Also, since it's an old theater, there are only one set of bathrooms, both downstairs. The lines at intermission were extremely long. We wouldn't recommend seeing a show there where seeing the stage is important. read more
