Dinner tonight with the 'rents, on the Westside. Not a neighborhood they normally frequent, but I suggested Ormsby's. Good choice! I was starving and got the mixed green salad with tomatoes, goat cheese and vinaigrette (on the side, of course) to start...then the burger but switched it up from the menu version to one with just provolone and avocado. Delicious. And of course, I got the side of fries (a huge portion) - mmm. Dad got the reuben and was pleased. Not as good as some NY-style delis, he said, but very tasty. Mom went light and just got the same salad as me (she's on a kick...). We sat upstairs where it would be a little easier to chat with quiet (just in case it got busy on a Tues) and had a very sweet and efficient server - my only "ding" is I can't recall if she told us her name. Maybe I just didn't hear her - the service was great. I couldn't eat all of my burger (surprise) so I took half home and had a snack for later! Great place for a party or just to hang out. I had my daughter's engagement party there this past weekend and it was fabulous. The catering manager and our server are outstanding. Being in the restaurant industry myself I was blown away. The service was outstanding the food was incredible the room we had great. Everyone had a great time. The ambiance is dim and cozy and could be a nice after work happy hour place to hangout. I had the ribeye steak with fries and my hubby had the Cuban sandwich, collards, and grits. My steak was chewy and kind of hard to swallow but the mushrooms that came with it were very tasty along with the house made steak sauce and well seasoned fries. The Cuban sandwich was delicious " i stole a bite when hubby wasn't looking." The food was served fairly quickly and our server was very pleasant I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will eat and have cocktails here again. read more

We were in Atlanta for a concert and of course decided to make a day of it. At the recommendation of a friend, we landed ourselves at Ormsbys and were not disappointed in the slightest! We had a few snacks there before the concert upstairs and the onion rings were huge, crunchy, and came with tasty dipping sauces. We battled it out in table shuffleboard and skee ball, and made plans to return after the concert for more drinks. When we did, it was packed! This place is pretty fun. I went on a Friday night. Just be aware that it can get pretty packed. The first floor is mainly for dining/chill drinks at the bar. Downstairs is a whole different story. It is pretty packed with a crowd, ranging from mid 20s to early 30s. At least, that's the crowd when I went. They have tons of games, including bocce ball, pool, and shuffleboard. They also have board games in the back you can grab. I ended up playing battleship (well more like battleshots) with my friend. The only thing I ate was their onion rings, which was huuuuumongous. The sauces weren't too bad either. Twas a fun night hanging out with friends. Overall, if you don't mind it being super crowded and loud, this is a very cool spot. I regret not coming here earlier! I have heard of it but never had a chance until this weekend. It was difficult to find the entrance. I had been to room and board before for a yelp event, so i knew the area but did not realize this place is tucked in underneath the room and board, a furniture store. Thry check your ID at the door and stamp your hand.. I had a foreign ID, and the guy at the door couldnt believe i was legal ( i am way legal and even have gray hair, lol). Supposedly my ID looked "too new" to be 10 years old. and compared my bday with facebook. I dont know how facebook is more reassuring than my ID, but it is fine. At least he was kind doing it. We were with a big group of 10-15 people. The booths downstairs can easily accomodate like 10 people and we had a few chairs added as well. There are a ton of games to play and we had such a good time. I got to play darts. You can barrow the things to play by giving an ID at the bar free of charge for darts. I hear pool is paid which is a bummer. They should have more pool tables.. shuffleboard was also great fun! Didnt make it to bocce because it was always busy. There are also photobooths. You can print (i belive $5-6) or post on instagram for $1.. For food, i tried their shrimp and grits at the yelp event at room and board. It was delicious. Today i got to try their calamari appetizer. It was really cheap (around 8 or 9) for a huge plate; however, i wish it had more calamari and less onions because the plate was practically 50% onions.. it was super tasty though. I would definitely get it again. They do have a large of selection of beers (a lot of belgian imports). To my surprise, they even had the fruity beers like belgian raspberry beer but it was priced around $11.. i opted for simple sam adams ($4.5). Imports seem to be in $6-11, which to me seemed a lot for a beer but i can see why. I would definitely come back here. Had such a good time. Only complaint is the noise. I used to order this all the time & it was so good. This time, this is how they prepared my sandwich. On what planet is this acceptable? On top of that, my server, Deven, forgot my egg. So I reminded him and he said "I got you." OVER 30 MINUTES LATER, he brings me 2 over easy eggs. Sir. What?!?! And then I got charged full price for the sandwich. No apology. No discount. Games galore - They have a ton of board games upstairs for you to play and other types of bar games downstairs (boccee ball, darts, shuffleboard, skee ball, pool tables). My favorite game is trying to get the hook onto the ring - definitely try this after a couple of drinks! 2. Watch your fav. team - they have so many TVs there that you can catch your favorite college and professional team all in one sitting. They are more than happy to put on a hockey game (which is extremely important to me!) 3. Drinks - they have so many beers on tap and a ton in bottles that you are bound to find something you like. I love their oatmeal coffee stout!!! They also have ciders if that's your thing (no Stella though - sad face) 4. Food is good for bar food - I got the beer braut with a side of fries and a pickle. Visited this place a few weeks ago because it was kind of late and we wanted a good burger. I had no idea that they had a formal dining area upstairs (away from all the games). We weren't in the mood for the bar vibe that they have downstairs so I was relieved that they had the upstairs area. My bf had a burger (which was really tasty) but the fries were noticebly overcooked (normally, I wouldnt even mention it but they were really hard). I had some brussel sprouts because I had already eaten and they were quite tasty (a little spicy which was unique with some thick cut bacon). The waitress was friendly and the drink prices were descent. If I'm ever looking for some good bar food again late at night, I will definitely come back to Ormsbys. I really, really, really wanted to drink a couple weekends ago. A relaxed place with good beer where I could sample a lot of different varieties. My friend suggested Ormsby's and right away the door guy was friendly and was chatting it up with an older couple who walked in front of us.Initially, I thought the place was too cool for its own good with the downstairs area packed with darts and bocce ball and a lot of the extra dressy hipster crowd. Service wise it was kind of hit or miss, it was a little hard to get our waitresses attention when she didn't come to check up on us. She passed us by a few times without even a blink. The beers were incredible, a lot of variety, a red rye ale a lot of high gravity beers and even mead. I can't say enough things about their beer selection without bordering on the overly fawning. The kitchen is open very late which worked out. They have an angus hot dog, Chicago style. I wanted to see how authentic it was: the hot dog itself was a nice upgrade, with the angus beef being a good step up. However, the poppy seed bun was overly thick and it couldn't even hold everything in before collapsing in on itself. There were few places for us to sit around (without ordering food) and it was a bit hard to get into the non-existent lines to play any games, so we ended up just chatting in the bocce ball room since no one was there. Ive been to Ormsby's many times and like the idea of it. BUT wknds aren't worth the trip, the bar is overcrowded with young professionals trying to hard to see and be seen. If that's your vibe, go for it, not for me. Games in the basement are fun but again, in wknds, there's a backup of 2 bachelorette parties and a reunion hogging all the good stuff. I went in on a Tuesday for drinks and dinner and was not impressed by service. My drink order is bourbon on the rocks with lemon. I received no lemon. Asked again, and was brought some. On my second drink I was brought limes... I ordered the Salmon BLT. When it arrived (pictures) I asked if that was the normal amount of salmon. Even the waiter said it looked skimpy before he brought it table side, but did nothing to fix the situation. My partner ordered a side of onion rings and was brought two. A good runner later brought more (Assuming not all were ready when food was plated) but would've been nice to know when received rather than accepting this meager portion. Overall, cool vibe but the service and company take away from the aesthetic and leave you wanting a tried and true dive bar over the flash of a yuppy, game bar. read more

Hadn't been here in almost a year and a half, but I'd remembered it being a decent gastropub. Since we were in the area we decided to eat here for an early dinner. Big mistake. Unfortunately, I was served a salmon sandwich which was clearly off. Thank goodness I did not take a full bite despite the fact that I was starving. The foul smell was immediately noticeable within mouth range--needless to say I was not eating it--no way. I'm not sure how the kitchen sent it out in good conscience. The server was very nice/diplomatic about it and offered to get me something else. But who can trust a kitchen willing to send out bad fish. That's just wrong. I opted to eat French fries for dinner while my friend "enjoyed" a burger which btw she later paid for I'm told. Gross. Won't be back. I've been to Ormsbys many times over the past 4 years and I'd have to say it's a pretty fun space if you know what to expect. If you arrive early for dinner (6-7pm) you should have an easy time getting a table. If you arrive after 9pm though they will begin checking IDs at the door and you can bet it'll get more and more crowded inside by the hour. The food here is surprisingly good. I'm a fan their Roasted Garlic Hummus, their Corn Dog Pups, Onion Rings, Cilantro Lime Salad with Steak, and any burger on the menu. It's seasoned well and always fresh. Most people though come here for the drinks and games. Ormsbys has a full bar on both floors. They have an impressive selection of beers and small but great list of house cocktails. Go downstairs to the lower level where you'll find all the fun games- shuffleboard, darts, and bocce ball to name a few. They also have several TV's around the bars so if you need to catch a sports game, no need to look any further! The downfall to Ormsbys is the type of people and how many end up coming here. One word to describe the vibe here- FRATTY. Mix the drinks with games and people seem to forget their age. Personally the college-scene is a thing of the past, but if that's something that appeals to you then go for it. I'd rather head to a different, less-crowded bar nearby. read more

I love Ormsby's so much! On the weekends it is usually quite packed, however it is easy to walk up to the bar to order a drink and go back to play games! I've been here multiple times from groups of 2 to 10 and have never had any issues. If you do opt in for a table on a busy night, expect to wait at least 30 minutes for a table for 2-4 people. Nonetheless, the downstairs part of the bar (it is 2 stories) is where the larger games are and the larger part of the bar (which obviously means more people- woo!). I love their selections of beer, games, as well as meals! If you are not into loud bars, this is not the place for you. I'm not sure why some people have rated this bar poor on service because of the 6+ times I have been here, the service has always been up to par. Let me start off by saying it is VERY hard to find if you never been there. I went there and there was no sign nothing. Which, it makes it cool like low key and exclusive vibe even tho it's open to everyone. I had a cranberry vodka which was really good , the bartender was really nice. I just got an appetizer & the calamari was fired very well. To my surprise they fried lemon and if you were not paying attention like I was not then you would have a VERY bitter taste in your mouth. This place is two levels, the ground level offers a full, bar and tables for a unique dining experience, while the level below has a ton of bar games, tables, and another bar, making for a very enjoyable evening with friends all around. Ormsby's offers a unique dining menu with a host of options that cater to everyone, meat and veggie eaters alike. They also have a huge drink menu, specializing in local, and imported beers and wines, cocktails, and all the spirits you can handle. This restaurant has some of the best and skilled chefs in the ATL area. You'd actually be surprised at how well cooked the food is here, considering the overwhelming bar vibe this restaurant gives off. But it is the perfect spot for a date night, dinner party, or just a night out for good drinks and food. I've had the opportunity to host several events here, and management was great in helping with the planning and facilitating. Everyone enjoyed the experience and had an overall great time. And I'm currently sipping a Southern Belle Margarita which sounds sweet but tastes like bourbon and orange juice. But can we talk about the food? The Cajun boiled peanuts are crave-able. They are always al dente and leave a warmth that's not too spicy (although I'm grateful for the aforementioned SB Marg). The pub pretzel is also Le Must. We usually sit at the upstairs bar. But the restrooms are downstairs so I'm frequently down there and the din of people playing games etc is infectious. This place has great energy and should be tried. Or don't. Honestly there's just not much of interest for me here. Maybe it's because I'm not a huge fan of bars, but this place just didn't really stand out to me. I've been to a few other bars and they were far more interesting. Basically Ormsby's is a bar with food and lots of games. It's so packed here though so you're lucky if you get your hands on any of the cool games. Downstairs is where the better games are at. There's pool, darts, and this huge game on the ground in the basement that takes up an entire room. The name of the game is called Bocce. It looks like fun, but there were too many people so my group of friends didn't get a chance to play. We did end up getting a table downstairs in the "game room". We played Jenga and Battleship. The games definitely brought on some nostalgia from our childhood so that earned Ormsbys an extra star. However, my fiancé and I got so bored that we left half way through the night and walked around. After coming back we stayed upstairs and played Shoots and Ladders and socialized a bit. What really annoyed me was that when my fiancé asked for water he was given an attitude by the bartender. Overall, I don't think I will be returning. The atmosphere was not really my scene and the service was basically non-existent. I think 2 stars is definitely deserving for the fun games that they offer. read more

More than the sights, the 4 am adventures and gritty city stories, the ease of transportation and the clamor of the city, what I most miss about NYC is Fat Cat. For those not familiar with this establishment, it's a dingy underground ping pong-pool hall and jazz club. Now, I'm not alleging Ormsby's is bringing it on that level - there's no stained couches, scrabble games, live music or intense ping pong matches with the Chinese. But it's the closest thing I have to Fat Cat in Atlanta and I'm thrilled about it. It makes the foreseeable future here more palatable. This is a better dressed, sanitized, hypoallergenic version of my former neighborhood hangout. They serve food, which is pretty radcakes. I had my very first corn dog there. Obviously, this is a gentrified, bougie take on the carnival food and while I found it sufficiently tasty, I'm comfortable in the knowledge that I don't ever need to eat a corn dog ever again. The club I had for lunch was ridiculous, as were the accompanying onion rings. By ridiculous, I mean you've got to have incredible deep throat technique to eat these things. Vanessa del Rio might be able to put these away, but this Vanessa required both hands, a knife, and a fork. Despite having to disassemble the club, it was very tasty, robust, and fresh. My cotton candy affliction is well known and despite being stuffed with deep fried vittles, I had to go for it. Do I really need to say it's yummy? They're serving cotton candy at a restaurant, kid. This is the shit my dreams are made of. What I really care about -*all* I really care about - are the parlor games downstairs. They currently have darts, shuffleboard, and bocce. I love bocce so big. I've got two sets -- for day time and night time use [led lights, ese] -- but this indoor option destroys my panties. At some point during a 3-month drug odyssey I found myself waking up in the back of a Maserati in the Westside Provisions parking lot. My mind was still a hurricane of chemical and organic cocktails burning trails through my cerebral cortex, and at this moment, the only thing I could bring myself to utter were two words: skee ball. A journey through the provisions compound ensued and, to make a long story short, ended at Ormsby's. The vibe was soothing to my frazzled state. Fancy couples stepping out of their Uber Xs and into the chic brick atmosphere. Games of all types except video carved the space into a sort of drunken dungeon playground. A bocce court here, some mysterious wooden pins perched on a platform in an alien apparatus there. I moved past the smeared, horrible faces of the night's clientele and drifted downstairs where I saw it: THE FLAMING NEON GLOW OF THE ICE BALL SKEE BALL MACHINE. It gave a ear splitting siren call, deafening to me, but unheard by anyone else as they rattled their chains over craft cocktails. This was my black monolith. This was the next step in my evolution. This was PROVIDENCE. I changed a few dollars, played until I managed to hit the 10,000 hole, and then opened my mouth toward the sky before exploding into a shower of lights. read more

It was fun to try a few of the local brews. There is also a huge private area for companies that want to host events. I was impressed with the energy this place had on a Weds. Night. Many people showed up around 11 pm. We literally watched about 30 girls walk in at once and the bar went silent. So, I am assuming this must be a college hangout? These onion rings were huge and delicious. I love this spot, and I used to never get the food here, but if you're not, you're missing out!! I think Ormsby's has the best guacamole in town. It has a lot of lime flavoring, which makes it taste so good. The only downside to guac is that they charge you extra for if you ask for more chips. They definitely don't provide you enough chips for how much guacamole there is. The only thing that bothers me is not being able to sit down at a table unless you order food. I feel that a drink should suffice. Overall, I love the atmosphere and the games they provide for a chill night of drinks with friends. read more
