We were planning to stay there on our way to Santa Barbara, CA where I was to perform some music at a friend's wedding, but then I just received the bad news that I will be needing to start radiation therapy for prostate cancer in July. The treatment involves 8 weeks of radiation sessions, 5 days per week, and must be uninterrupted. At a time when anxiety and stress are elevated I have to deal with spending $93.00 for a hotel stay that I can't use! Cancelling seven weeks in advance didn't seem matter to Traveler's Inn! How horrible is it that a business can be so cold and uninterested in an individual's specific circumstances, and does not offer a refund. I could understand it, and it would be justifiable, if the cancellation came within 1 week of the reserved date, because it might be difficult to fill that room in such a short time. But 7 weeks in advance!?!?!? I am so shocked by such a policy. I'm sorry to vent so much anger and frustration like this, but I am overwhelmed by the user-unfriendliness of this policy.

Parking is plentiful, and most of the time you can park right outside your room, which is great if you're traveling with a car full of belongings or just want peace of mind. In the morning, they offer a basic continental breakfast with hard-boiled eggs, cereal, milk, orange juice, coffee, hot chocolate, muffins, danishes, and yogurt. There's no indoor dining area, but you can easily take it back to your room or enjoy it by the pool. The rooms are well stocked with soap, shampoo/conditioner, lotion, and a shower cap, and I really appreciated the extra space heater in addition to the standard AC/heater wall unit--such a thoughtful touch. The internet is free and good signal. Pro tip: Book directly through the hotel's website. It's cheaper than Booking.com or Hotels.com (I saved $8), and the price difference more than makes up for any points you might earn elsewhere. It's also cheaper than walking in to book, and they do fill up quickly--when we checked in, only a couple of rooms were left. Except Blue Gum. Sweet! We map it on the GPS and began driving do the location. We turn down a few dark streets and suddenly, I got chills as we slowly drove in the rain looking for the address in the middle of nowhere. We pulled up to the motel and I see this sign straight out of the 60's and what looked like a trailer park lit up by Christmas lights. I tell my buddy to wait in the truck while I got us our keys to the room. The old Indian woman working at the front was very kind and helpful. While waiting, a man walked into the office in his pajamas and begins complaining about how his heater still isn't working. I felt for him as it was about 29 degrees out, windy, freezing rain. We get the keys and are told we need to park the truck on the main road instead of the parking lot because we had a full sized pickup truck, which means we got the luxury of having to load every bit of hunting gear into our room so we didn't get broken into at night. Usually (in most hotels) we just park by our room so we can be woken up by the alarm. The numbers on the door were almost completely worn off. I know these numbers are pretty darn cheap at the home improvement store, so this place must be in a bad financial state. The walls inside were cracking. The screens were covered in patches. Not a single surface was level in this entire place. The microwave was propped up on a sliver of wood. Oh, and THE HEATER WAS BROKEN!!! Arg! Luckily there was a kitchenette and we were able to turn on the electric stove and warm up the place. After many complaints, the manager drove to Wal-mart and bought us a space heater. Unfortunately, this was at about 2:00AM at this point and we had to be awake at 4:00AM to go hunt. Not happy about being woken up after finally getting to sleep. Stay away. Far far away. I have stayed in some cheap slummy motels in my younger days as I traveled the country, but this one takes the cake as the worst.
