Filthy. Disgusting. Needs to be bleached and burned to the floor. Live spiders on the pillows, roaches crawling in the bed stand. Spider webs across the room. The child running the front desk didn't have much to say other than "the manager isn't available". Called hotels.com and asked why they work with this slum. STAY AWAY FROM HERE. read more

Oh. My. God. So me and my good friend made last minute plans to do a duck hunting trip in the valley and as a result, did not book a hotel. We called all around and nobody had any rooms. Except Blue Gum. Sweet! We map it on the GPS and began driving do the location. We turn down a few dark streets and suddenly, I got chills as we slowly drove in the rain looking for the address in the middle of nowhere. We pulled up to the motel and I see this sign straight out of the 60's and what looked like a trailer park lit up by Christmas lights. I tell my buddy to wait in the truck while I got us our keys to the room. The old Indian woman working at the front was very kind and helpful. While waiting, a man walked into the office in his pajamas and begins complaining about how his heater still isn't working. I felt for him as it was about 29 degrees out, windy, freezing rain. We get the keys and are told we need to park the truck on the main road instead of the parking lot because we had a full sized pickup truck, which means we got the luxury of having to load every bit of hunting gear into our room so we didn't get broken into at night. Usually (in most hotels) we just park by our room so we can be woken up by the alarm. The numbers on the door were almost completely worn off. I know these numbers are pretty darn cheap at the home improvement store, so this place must be in a bad financial state. The walls inside were cracking. The screens were covered in patches. Not a single surface was level in this entire place. The microwave was propped up on a sliver of wood. Oh, and THE HEATER WAS BROKEN!!! Arg! Luckily there was a kitchenette and we were able to turn on the electric stove and warm up the place. After many complaints, the manager drove to Wal-mart and bought us a space heater. Unfortunately, this was at about 2:00AM at this point and we had to be awake at 4:00AM to go hunt. Not happy about being woken up after finally getting to sleep. Stay away. Far far away. I have stayed in some cheap slummy motels in my younger days as I traveled the country, but this one takes the cake as the worst. read more

I recommend this 1 star establishment just so you can see the shit show that passes for motel. The first thing that you will notice when you call is the surprise in the voice from the front staff, because they are surprised that you would actually want to stay there!. When we arrived, the lady working the desk was nice, but she looks like she's been sitting in a hospital room all day he's pondering whether or not the blonde extensions were really working for her. I think this is why we decided to pay cash at this point. The pool harkened back to a bunch gone era of cultural homogeneity and regular maintenance. But not anymore.... The room had an interesting layout - it was fairly clean and had an AC unit under the microwave and fridge. The water was hot and had good pressure. Oh, and the neighbors were loud. I think this place might be where there are long term residence experiencing housing problems and they offer some rooms as well. Treat yourself and visit here. read more

This place is run by a very shady owner..... I booked a room on hotels.com for $75 total price was to be 78.90. When I got there they would not honor the booking and told me I had to pay $105. I told him I would take the room because there was nothing else available but I was going to give him a very nasty review for not honoring the booking and he refused to rent me the room. This is a very shady operation that does not honor their commitments. I'd recommend that you go to another place if you have the option. read more

Was advertised as having AC, but this consisted of a fan under a shelf that did nothing to cool the room. It had been close to 100 degrees that day and room remained hot. We tried to sleep on top of the beds with our heads as close as possible to the fan, but this didn't help. I wanted to open a window, but there was no screen on the window, which was right in front of the parking lot and there were a lot of insects in the air. The piece of resistance was the cockroach in the shower in the morning. read more

This is a perfect example of a motel with potential but run by individuals who lack hospitality skills. We arrived to a room that was not cleaned. The room had a strange odor. The manager told us either we could come back in 45 minutes and they would clean it or we were welcome to leave. The management seemed more concerned about sending us to the AM/PM which he either owns or operates to 'kill time' while they cleaned the room. By cleaning the room they masked the smell of cat urine with a cheap smelling orange spray. The smell was unbearable. Our clothes and pets now reek of this smell. There was animal hair in the sheets and comforter. Even worse there were fleas crawling around on the curtains in the bathroom. The rooms were very outdated. The floor was carpeted with a stench ridden orange carpet. It's funny that the lack of wifi was the most minor issue. IF TRAVELING WITH PETS AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Keep driving. read more

It is with great pride that I review the blue gum inn. Let me start off by saying I don't know why anyone would vacation in this town. For this reason I give this motel 4 stars. One could take off stars because it is dirty, no conti breakfast and has carpet reminicent of your grandmother's house. But you aren't in this town for a nice room. I find the location very quiet and pleasing, the parking lot large for your race car or your RV for you older folks. The prices are really the cherry on this cake. $43 for a Friday night. Can we say party!? -1 star because even truck drivers need clean showers and sheets and it is a little dark and creepy for those of you meeting your internet dates here. read more

This is a little hidden gem which is perfect for couples or families. It's like a 'blast from the past' , like a 60's motel. Pool is fun and clean. It's very reasonable and worth pulling of of highway 99 for. Rates won't cost more than about 65.00 a night for 2 beds. Clean and cute! read more

Haven't even checked in yet and it already SUCKS! My husband used the phone to contact the desk clerk to check in at 6:30 (check in begins at 1) and he said we had to wait 20 minutes because he needs to SHOWER?!?!? WTH??? read more

Had a reservation that said check-in is any time after 1 pm. My wife and I showed up around 2:50 pm. The boy at the desk told us that he was "on his break. Come back in 45 minutes. After politely voicing our displeasure, we left and went into town to get something to eat. Upon our return at nearly 4 pm, we were told by the same boy that, due to our bad attitude about not being able to check-in earlier, he cancelled our reservation. I am still speechless, found another room with a great staff, and praying that this imbecile does something stupid, such as charge us for not showing up. Never again... ZERO STARS! read more

If I could give it a no star i would.. This place is a complete p.o.s. The manager is a Sketchy Individual as it is. He actually told me (a person staying there) "hey look at my fighting rosters." I thought he was joking and he said he for real was going to fight them and his uncle will be the first and has like 30 of them. The place is so out of date. The TV is like 10" and has no remote. The v chip is turned on and blocks most of the shows. When I asked the manager about it as he was cutting flowers he said I don't know anything about electronic stuff. Well your the manager you should know. The manager is more worried about the flower then the place its self. The manager also act and talks like the place is packed every night. That place has not been packed since it opened. The manager will play games and even yell at you. He did at me. Even cussed. He Terminated my stay for the fact that I had an opinion and said this is by far the worse place I have been. Motel 6 is soooooooo much better. The manager will also lie. He told me oh the owner sent you an email and has not.. i even emailed her and nothing.. Don't stay at blue gum. read more

A short drive off of 1-5 freeway this motel is a soon to be diamond in the ruff in its final renovation stages. This classic 1950's motel has Hollywood charm with a rich history to offer its guests. A gardeners paradise, take a stroll in the court yard with wide-bladed grasses or sit back and listen to numerous birds and smell the flowers including birds of paradise, calla lilies, oleanders and dozens of roses with mature trees including Persian silk trees, palms, eucalyptus and fruit trees. If you're looking for a modern renovated room, they've got you covered, with all the updates, carpet, paint, furniture and immaculately clean. But if you're a purist like myself take an original room, you'll be in for a real treat. Our room took me back 30 years to a nostalgic simpler time with soft Polyester carpet with a wonderful feel, along with original mid-century modern furniture all in pristine condition. True hospitality. read more

Older well maintained motel on old Highway 99 W beautiful rose gardens friendly management well worth the money. Nice off the main highway find. read more

Beautiful grounds. Shade, Pool, Safe parking. Looks like it was the place to stay before the I-5 was built. Half the cost of the places in town. Worth the extra 7 minutes to the race track. Super friendly staff. 70's décor including the tv that didn't work. Will I come back? You betcha! read more

I had to work out of town on business for the fires. Almost no rooms anywhere were open because of evacuees. It's not fancy, but the rooms are maintained and the manager is seriously awesome. He let me run a video conference from the lobby on the first trip. Second trip I had an unfortunate incident with a muddy field and he washed all my clothes and shoes just to help. I dont mind a bit of drive to be treated nicely. There are fancier places no doubt, but I'll keep staying here. Great value too. read more

The only place that was available on a trip north. It is not nice. If you are moving up from camping - sure. But I would never stay here again. I slept wrapped in a towel. read more

I loved my stay at the Blue Gum Hotel! I like older hotels with character and lots of space in the rooms and thick walls and windows that open! Eduardo the manager was very helpful and friendly and had my room ready for me and checked me in within minutes. He also took the time to inform me about local areas to visit, even drawing me a map of how to get to the river! He is extremely busy taking care of the motel and the very extensive and beautiful gardens surrounding the place, so this was appreciated! He even found my sunglasses and returned them to me. The gardens and orchards surrounding the motel are absolutely lovely...large lawns, roses, calla lillies, giant palm trees, orchards, flowering trees, and the road is lined with absolitely giant eucalyptus trees. You can take a walk through the orchards and wind down. Zillions of birds! I gave this hotel 4 stars considering the value and service. The sheets and bathrooms and everything were very well cleaned . Carpets and drapes were old but I can handle that for a very low price and a great night's sleep. Very comfortable bed. Thanks Eduardo! read more

Room had a strange smell, dead bugs in the room, french fries on the floor. The window to my dosmay was open all night. Also the bathroom window became wide open in the night weird. I had read reviews here and thought I would take a chance, felt like a place to hide out. They said the are renovating, lets see. read more

Pretty roses on the property. Pool doesn't open until June. Bring slippers or flip flops to wear while inside your room, as the floors feel sticky and damp, even the bathroom tile floor. Otherwise seemed to be clean. Noticed how dim the lighting was in the bathroom until I screwed in the 2nd lightbulb that they left only partially screwed in. Water has a strong sulphur smell so decided to not drink it, made my skin itch after my shower, shower stall is super tiny. Bed was hard, woke up with sore neck, sore back and painful ribs. Breakfast offerings in the office were small pouches of a variety of cereals. Milk was in the fridge. Coffee. Partially green bananas. Oranges. Packaged pasties that leave a greasy coating on the upper roof of your mouth. I don't think I noticed any yogurt. When getting ready to use heater/ac unit be sure to check whether or not it's plugged in, same with fridge, microwave and coffee pot. No WiFi which wasn't a surprise as it was stated in the reservation. I doubt we'll stay here again. read more

If this is the sort of place you like, you'll like this place. It's a mile or more off the freeway (sign says 1/4 mile, but it lies; keep going). Nice setting, with a garden and a clean pool surrounded by a '50s style U-shaped motel. Owner (employee?) seemed uncertain and slow at checkin, but nice enough. The rooms are fairly large and just about clean, though it doesn't look like anybody's scrubbed them recently. As far as I can tell, all services-- gas, food, stores etc--are three miles or so down the freeway. I'm just passing through, sleeping and showering, and for the $50 it cost, I'd stay here again. But I'd check the prices at the chain places first. read more

Stay here for the gorgeous full-sized pool surrounded by a big lawn and shade trees - perfect for a summer get away! The rooms are so-so but it's great to have a refrig and microwave and you can't beat the price. The people running the place are nice too. It's easy to find and only 5 minutes east of Hwy 5. I'd go back. read more

The Motel is under NEW MANAGEMENT and they are FANTASTIC!!! The rooms are slowly being renovated, we saw the a few of the original rooms as well. We would have happily stayed in the original rooms even though it was a little dated. They have very limited wifi but we didn't care about that. The current manager is amazing as we were sitting there eating our breakfast (not a big complimentary breakfast a box of cereal and a danish) he asked if we wanted a tour of the grounds. He's been doing all of the renovations himself. His roses are beautiful and a lot of them are the originals from the early days! He also showed us the fruit trees, and vegetables he's growing. Walnut tree, almond tree, Chinese pear tree, loquat tree, pomegranate tree, grape vines, lemon trees and orange trees. The property is surrounded by eucalyptus trees that smell AMAZING. The new owner is really trying to revive this motel and make it great again. We will be coming back for sure! It makes a great weekend getaway from the city. Amazing job keep it up! We are sure to become loyal patrons. read more
