I tried Timmy Chan, and the chicken was delicious while the fried rice was off the chain. This is quickly becoming one of my new favorite restaurants. The customer service was good, and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. read more

The WORST Timmy Chan's in the history of Timmy Chan's. I was excited that there was no line. Now I know why. The rice was horrible and the chicken was flavorless. I have been a customer of Timmy Chan's si ce the 90s. I will not be returning to this location. read more

Heard about this place for a really long time. Maybe it used to be better. It was just okay to me. Too many better fried wings in the city. Wings were dry. The fried rice had salad sized shrimp in it. The pink ones. I just rather not have shrimp if that's what you give me. I ended up adding real shrimp and garlic sauce to my leftover rice the next day. It was so much better then. I shouldn't have had to do that. They did have kool aid and that was good. Cash only. So bring cash if you visit. read more

Very yummy! Service is ehhhh. Not much to say there. Ambiance is not good either, but it's worth the trip.

New menu... Wish they would start accepting card payments for customer convenience... Also, they should sell all items like the other locations read more

The rice wasn't cooked well on my wing dinner, also the portion of the rice doesn't equate to the portion I get at the other locations

Only the real ones know about Timmy Chans. Real Houstonians. Rappers have rapped about the famous wings and rice! They all say original in the name, and frankly, I don't know which one is since they have a few different locations. Back in my college days, my friends and I would come to take advantage of the cheap prices and hefty portions. As an adult, I worked in the area of this particular location and my coworkers and I would come every so often. It was definitely nostalgic and the food still tasted the same. My palette has also changed so now it's just ok food to me. Their wings and rice is indeed pretty darn good. It's not gourmet by any means, but it is solid. I've also had a few of their very Americanized Chinese dishes and it isn't bad at all. This place is far from fancy, but sometimes the hole in the walls have some great dishes. Would I go out of my way to visit? Nah! I might get the craving one day and check them out again though. read more

The older lady in the window was very rude I ordered a 4 piece wing dinner with shrimp fried rice with a 4PEICE wing she read my order back and still put in the wrong order and said I ordered wrong when I got to the window she was very rude about it ..after that I experience I will not be ordering again from this location ..The one on MLK and 610 is way better and at least they got good customer service..Ms granny needs to retire because she's not only rude to the customers but rude to the cashier as well read more

I came here cause because I heard it in rap songs. I got wings with fried rice and gravy with a large Kool aid. It was about $11 and it came out really fast. It looked really good and was a lot of food. It was exactly what I wanted and I really liked it. It was flavorful and I'll definitely go next time I'm in Houston. read more

I love Timmy Chan's y'all. Everybody is always saying how Timmy Chan's is ghetto. And yes I agree, but the food is just as good if not better than any other low end Chinese restaurant I've been to. A few months back they had a fire and was closed for a little while. They're back open and ready for business again. Today I went through the drive thru and ordered the Mongolian beef. I wanted some wonton soup, but this location don't sell soup anymore. Everything that I have tried here has been good, the chicken, the lo mein, egg rolls, etc. The restaurant isn't in the best of neighborhoods, but I haven't had any bad experiences here. The place isn't modern at all, but I'm not expecting anything spectacular at Timmy Chan's. Just good fattening fast food. read more

Bad service, food was plain and it's cash only still in 2024 smh! Restroom dirty and restaurant smells I will never be back

The food here isn't bad. For the price, you basically get what you pay for: a big portion of mediocre food. If you're on a budget, this place is good otherwise I'd splurge the extra $5 on actual Chinese food, this is just a poor imitation. But if disgusting cheap Chinese food is your thing (and those located in shady locations), then this is the place for you. Tip: they only take cash Also as the food sits longer in your stomach, you hate yourself more. read more

Best curry chicken I have had in a long time while definitely be back. Even though I'll have to drive across town. It will be worth it.

A hometown favorite! I grew up eating Timmy Chan, it's a love-hate relationship. Although it's much more love than hate. Actually no hate at all. I love the wing dinners, the general Tso's, egg rolls, and especially the fried rice!!! I could eat the rice by itself, no sides, no gravy, no add ins. Lol plain fried rice. This cash only, local gem of ours in Houston is sure to impress when you're showing one of your "out of town" friends some Houston cuisine. The wing dinners, when fresh are always juicy and seasoned to perfection, the general Tso's chicken is out of this world and deserves an award. Timmy has fast food on lock. The portions are always large enough to share, and if you're eating by yourself, for a few bucks you could eat one meal throughout an entire day. If you're not from Houston, I'd recommend you visit Timmy Chan with a Houstonian for security, but if you're bold enough to go into the hood and try this underground king of foods, your tastebuds will surely thank you. read more

Now, my first time going here was good! It was a five, for sure. The the wings were fried well with a nice cooked batter. The potato wedges were fries with a nicely coated texture on how they were cooked. I truly enjoyed how the wedges came apart with the crusted wedge flavor, almost reminding me of a creole or southern flavor fry. (1 month ago) I gave it a four because today I ordered the same thing, but instead of the awaited hopeful potato wedges, I receives fries this time. They were cooked well. I could have added more salt and pepper, but is good for those who have the option to add if needed. The ketchup added remaining flavor need without extra salt. My step brother years ago let me try some of his food from there and thought it was good. I never a stopped by due to the word fried. Watching calories over the years, here and there. Knowing I had eaten at many other places that are fast food, I drove up about a month ago and ordered. I was glad I did. "Still watching fried" sometimes. Foodie Kim read more

They only take cash so you know. Not a problem for me but that fish sandwich was nasty. I have a nasty taste left in my mouth and i only pinched a little. The first sandwich was breaded like chicken. I thought they gave me a chicken sandwich. I sent it back to get my fish looking like fish and it taste like they just fished it out the water five minutes before I ordered it. The cashier lady seemed inpatient and kinda rude but she had no problem giving me my money back which was nice. The chicken tenders are great but the shrimp in the combo rice looks nasty. I've never seen shrimp this pink read more

Portions are huge but for the love of god don't get anything with shrimp... they're sickeningly pink and taste so strange. I ordered shrimp crab puffs and my friend ordered the shrimp lo mein- neither of which were finished. The first bite of the shrimp crab puff was like looking into an open wound. SO GROSS!!! I don't understand why the shrimp are so pink. I never leave reviews for places but I just had to say something about this. I can't speak for anything else on the menu but these two items were absolutely awful. I'm still feeling nauseous two days after the incident. For the lo mein- I opened the shrimp lo mein and I was instantly disappointed. The shrimp, although plentifully sprinkled throughout the plate, were as pink as could possibly be and when I bit into one of them, I could taste some ocean salt - that's how raw they were. I eat a lot of Chinese food and I enjoy take out chinese, but this was the worst food I've ever eaten from a Chinese restaurant. I'd like to formally warn anyone who wants to go here - please don't, as I was feeling horribly sick the entire day after I ate the garbage they call shrimp lo mein. Do yourself a favor and go to China stix off of west Holcombe. read more

Trust me when I tell you all.Timmy Chan's are not equal. I tried to tell my husband lets go to the one on MLK and 610, but we landed on Scott and ended up disappointed. We ordered 6 piece wing dinners and got like 12 of the tiniest wingettes I've ever seen in life. Like when Terry Cruises man hands ate that tiny wing on Everybody Hates Chris. That tiny. What happened to the roll you used to get? Ugh. So mad. Never again. You suck Scott location. read more

10/18/2019 called for a pickup order of their famous chicken wings rice and gravy around 11:15am. They open at 11am so I knew we would get some fresh wings. My buddy went to pick them up and when he got them back to us the wings look like the had been under a heat lamp from the night before. Gravy had a burnt smell and rice was gummy. Never going back to this one. I hope this review will let them know not to give customers old food from the day before. I have never had bad service from them but if they using monetary gain over quality stay away from this place. read more

Cheap eats sometimes leave you feeling... well, cheated. If you want to make sure your five dollars goes a long way, then Timmy Chan is your man. If I could, I would tell the owners to let me open a franchise in DC. I'm certain they would get a huge following from both starving students and the State Department. Thank you, Timmy Chan for knowing how to season a wing before frying it. You can drop anything in oil & make it crunch.... Twinkie, anyone? I want flavor, and Timmy Chan's has got it. Wings & rice are a standard here ... but I would venture to say that the other items on the menu are just as good. This place is the main reason I am such a hater of the DC "carryout".... 6 wings and shrimp fried rice that probably can serve two for 6$, you just can't beat that. If you get normal rice, they offer gravy on top which helps everything go down. I'm on a mission to finish one of these wing dinners in one sitting, the closest I got was 3 bites away. But on my last bite I just was too full and did not want any more rice. Oh and a large punch helps taking everything in. They accept cash only, but they always hook it up on the orders so you will be full from a few dollars. They advertise it at 5 wings + rice but they always give some extra. Now back to the wings, I just really love them here. Thinking about how they are seasoned and fried gets my mouth watery. GOOD WINGS! read more

I have been eating there for 30 years! When they were closer to Van Fleet! The best food even today. Priced still in range & Mark is still working there. He understands food & customers! Unbelievable prices, great food, banging portions and interesting scenery. Located straight up in the hood of h-town this is the spot to get cheap food to go, and I mean to go! Last time I was there, a couple years ago, the first thing I noticed was a armed guard rockin a 38 special walking around..pulled up and saw the extensive menu selection they have, you want pepper steak?..yup..you want pepper steak with wings? Yup..want fried rice and wings and fries? Yup. I was sold immediately, I had the standard, exchanged money and food via prison style drawer surrounded by bulletproof lexan and was on my way. Driving back to my spot which was bout 15 minutes away I was tempted to stop the car and kill that ish! I resisted temptation got home sat down and opened the box..man I swear to god that it was like the scene from pulp fiction when travolta opened the briefcase..that ish was glimmering with msg and all the good stuff! The food was fantastic..flavorful..fresh..filling, it hits you like a sack of bricks and cheap. Highly recommended, ill hit it whenever im back in the hood. read more

It's Timmy Chan....YKWTFGO. No frills. CASH ONLY. Drive thru...Get your change (not responsible for receipts or change left). Bullet proof glass. No smiles. No friendly customer service... But you don't go to Timmy Chan's for all that. The food is decent enough for fast (Chinese) food. The wings are good...so what if there's a feather or 2 left on there...I guess that confirms that it's really chicken. Yummy rice & gravy. Good serving sizes of shrimp fried rice. Nothing healthy here. Guilty pleasure. Get your food & go! read more

Im sorry bu this location is just dirty. When you walk in, only 1 door is open, looks like the other is either broke, locked with bars, or I'm not sure why. But that's a fire hazard. :-( It just was very dirty looking inside. I wanted to give the food a chance, but even the cashier made me feel unwelcome. It's mostly fried chicken/wings it seems. Not going back. read more

Quality of food is not the best - not even close. BUT this restaurant does give you a lot of food. It's pretty cheap too. So if you're on a budget and you want to end with a FULL stomach, this could be it. Note 1: There is a drive-thru. Minimal socialization between customer and employee. And I do mean minimal. You'll see what I mean. P.S. Cash only. P.P.S. They don't count your change, so if you threw in a few extra quarters on accident like me, you won't be getting them back lmao. Note 2: The shrimp here is really weird. 10/10 would not recommend anything with shrimp in it. Also, the flavor of their fried chicken is: Salt. But really, you can't expect much more than that. Overall, OTC is not a bad place. Just know that if you decide to never come here ever in your lifetime, you're not exactly missing out on anything ha read more

Got that wings with shrimp fried rice. Delicious. Almost burned my mouth the food was so hot and fresh.

One star because they can't seem to make up their minds. I have eaten here once as I'm not from Houston and my coworker brought me some food said it was a must try. Not going to lie food was hot/fresh and tasty. So last night I figured well I kind of would like some chicken wings with gravy. The business closes at 10pm or at leas that's what it says online. I get off at 9:30. So my coworker called and said hey do you guys take phone order their answer not after 9pm. She said ok well what time is it that stop taking walk in orders the girl whom I never spoke to personally so have no name said 9:45. So of course after getting that info I said ok. Now as someone who doesn't like to go to into a business right at the buzzer I said well I'll leave work 5 mins early so that I can get there a little bit before that 9:45 cut off time. So I work in downtown was in my car and pulling out of the parking lot at 9:30 the business is 3mi away. No surface traffic I drove all the way over there and I say all the way because it was a wasted trip. Pull up in the parking lot at 9:39. Get to the door at 9:40... locked can see people behind counter possibly counting drawers or what have you. So I call and speak to some girl and ask her hey online it says you close at 10. What time do you actually close. To which she replies 9:45. I said ok well yesterday I was told last orders are taken at that time and regardless it's only 9:40 to which she had nothing to say. They turned off the lights and acted as if that was business as normal. I disconnected the line and left the parking lot but the time I was almost to the fwy it was 9:45. I will not be back that's bad business. I could understand if I was trying to walk in at 9:59 but based on info their employees gave I should've been able to walk in and place my order at 9:40. Terrible business practices read more

This is the only "Chinese" restaurant I've ever been to that didn't have Asians behind the counter... or soup. I absolutely love everything about this place, from the ginormous meal & drink that could feed three for $5, the guy selling bootleg movies, the neighborHOOD, the Walmart crowd that often eats here, and the greasy but oh-so-good food they brown bag for you. I have to cut this review short, as I've begun to drool, just thinking about the food. read more

Man, This really has got to be the best kept secret in Houston. I mean where else can you get wings and rice, and four rolls and a Pepsi for $5.
