It has been so long since I've eaten at Timmy Chan! It definitely gives me nostalgic vibes from high school days. My husband really wanted to try for the first time so we got to go. Cash only here. Drive thru was quick and easy on a weekday for dinner. We ordered the veggie lo mein, shrimp fried rice, 6 chicken wings with fries and biscuit. The lo mein was still as good as I remembered with thick veggies. The shrimp fried rice was on the dry side so it did feel wasted. The chicken wings were pleasantly good and crispy! I really liked the biscuit with the chicken. A decent option for fast food. read more

The Original Timmy Chan is one of those restaurants that folks in Houston tell you that you have to try. Especially the one on MLK street. So that's what I did. I ordered the shrimp fried rice and wing combo. The fried rice was super fresh and hot. But I was a little turned off by the little shrimp they used. Definitely not seasoned and tasted rubbery. The wings were good. Crispy and good seasoning. Overall if you're looking for something quick and not too costly you should try. read more

Waited in line for an hour and a half to get to the order window and find that it's cash only. Who carries cash in 2026? Especially in this neighborhood? Majorly disappointed. read more

On a random Sunday around 4PM this spot was already packed, with lines out the door, parking lot full, and drivethru line out into the street. It definitely feels like an experience and something like a southside staple. This is definitely not a spot for the faint of heart. Barred windows, bullet proof glass, security guard patrolling the area, def not a place to sit and eat (not that they really have any dining space). However, during the day, with my oblivious and overall nonchalant nature, I felt fine. We waited in line to order, which took a little bit of time as it does seem a bit understaffed for the number of customers. Ordering was somewhat difficult as I could barely understand the cashier and wasn't aware of all the options and sides. We (over)ordered the orange chicken, 4 wings with shrimp fried rice, and catfish and shrimp meals along with 2 teacakes. Food came out after ~15-20 minutes and we grabbed our food and headed out. Portions are very generous for the price and food was good. Its Chinese-American food and they seem to do it well. I thought the catfish was really moist and tender, the chicken wings were really crisp and well seasoned, the orange chicken didn't travel super well but the flavor was nice, more orange than I expected. I'd say I was pleasantly surprised by the food. Overall, if you're willing to have a bit of an experience, craving some chinese american food, and have cash on hand, Timmy Chan's will fit that niche! read more

It's not much to look at from the outside or inside, does not offer any frills, had difficult parking, but prices are pre-inflation throwback, the food is pretty good overall and comes in generous servings. My favorite part of our meal was the fried chicken, catfish, and shrimp which each had a nice southern style breading, a salt and pepper seasoning, and tasted fresh. Our fries were also really tasty with a good thickness and crunchiness and were not too oily. The orange chicken was ok, but not that special and was probably my least favorite thing we ordered. I felt there wasn't much orange flavor and it was a bit too sweet. I recommend sticking to the fried items and seafood as those seem to be their best options. read more

There is no place for hate when it comes to Timmy Chans! Place has been phenomenal for decades. Only losers complain about their cash only rule. You might have to wait in line but it's worth it. Best damn fried chicken and fried rice. I don't live in Houston anymore but when I visit I'll risk a 2 hour traffic delay to slide in and get some of that chicken. Timmy Chan stan for lifeeee!!! read more

Ok so we go here for take out prob twice a month! It's so good 1st off you get the whole wing not 1 wing cut in half ! I just hate that! Honestly this was not that good. I got the shrimp fried rice and every single shrimp was an unusual pink. I eat seafood a lot and could easily tell that was not right to consume. Do better. read more

Chicken Fried rice was hot and tasty. The lemon pepper wings were good. They have a drive-through the line was really long. The food here is incredible. I would honestly sit in line for hours if I had to. I drive 27 miles one way to enjoy this food. I absolutely love love eating here. As far as the cash only policy~~the food is worth it. You're going to pay for it anyway. Does it really matter how? read more

Wings wings wings! Everything is affordable and tastes amazing. I have always ordered bulk family wings and they're fried rice. They only take cash and everything is made fresh. There are days that it may get super busy but be patient you will not regret it. They do offer a variety of other food but I only ever go for the wings. Come show your support if you're on this side of town. read more

I had high hopes because I've heard this is some of the best Chinese food in Houston (specifically this location). Must be me because I was not impressed or amused! The service was good! She answered my questions and was patient with me ordering. Ordered shrimp egg foo young with steamed white rice, gravy on the side. 4 wings with regular fried rice. Im not sure what the fried bread was called but that was the best part of the meal. The place has a drive thru and inside seating. Why a 3 you ask? The food just wasn't good for me. The egg foo young was overly shrimped up; I say that because I started to have an allergic reaction. Ive never had one before with this dish. No veggies in the fried rice. The rice was seasoned along with the chicken but it was so much pepper. The gravy taste like it was from a can/jar and watered down. I mean the food looks appealing, but it just wasn't! read more

I decided to try this restaurant to see what all the hype was about, but overall, it was just okay for me. The first issue I ran into was finding out at the drive-thru that they only accept cash. After waiting in a long line, I had to maneuver my way out, find an ATM that actually worked nearby, and then come back to place my order. That alone made the experience more frustrating than it needed to be. The food came out hot and fresh, which I appreciated. However, the shrimp in the shrimp fried rice had a very unusual bright pink color that honestly made me question it. The fried catfish and shrimp were heavily breaded, to the point that it took away from the flavor of the seafood itself. On a positive note, the shrimp lo mein was pretty good, and the fried biscuits were definitely one of the better items I tried. Even so, I don't feel the food was worth the extra hassle of leaving to get cash and then coming back. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable enough for me to go out of my way to visit again. read more

I used to go here in the 90s for their famous wings and rice. Recently decided to give it a couple more try this year. It sure has gone downhill. First order of 6 wings and rice came with 12 winglets instead of whole wings. They should have let us know they were out of whole wings. Decided to give it another try. This time, the wings were full wings but was over cooked and dry. It was more on the darker side than golden. The batter was bitter indicating old oil was being use. Thanks for all the years of badass chicken wings but unfortunately I won't be coming back anymore. read more

This original location spot was sure to deliver great quality, fast service, and AMAZING FLAVOR! Stopped by this neighborhood gem to have some of their famous fried rice and chicken wings. I've been a fan since childhood and wanted to introduce my children to some good food. I ordered an 8 piece wing with pork fried rice and it was enough to feed a family of 4! The kids and I enjoyed the well seasoned chicken wings which were fried to perfection and pork fried rice with all of the fixin's, sprouts, green onion, and plenty of fried pork. I gave 4 stars for the service inside. They initially messed up my order, but a manager came out quickly and professionally to handle the mishap. read more

You've read the reviews...yes Timmy Chan's is all those things. You're not here to dine in (that's not even currently allowed), and you aren't here to hang around outside. You're here to order, get your food, and go. The fried rice was delicious, I mean maybe some of the best fried rice I've had (Americanized of course). The chicken and broccoli was just okay and came with only plain fried rice (no egg, etc just rice). This place is worth the drive! read more

Maaaan, the drive-thru line for this place is nuts, everytime I pass by it on the freeway. It's the only location open, now that the Southloop location was closed down, due to the pandemic. I was craving some chicken fried rice with some egg rolls (veggies and meat). That's what I used to get from T.C.'s, growing up in Third Ward. It was the weekend spot to hit up and the before\after the club food for me and my friends. Not this location, but they were all over the place at one time. I drove into the badly constructed parking lot, masked up, and walked into the restuarant. It was empty, aside from a lone security guard, and the workers behind the counter. Behind the counter to ceiling plexi-glass partition, the young lady asked for my order. With a sense of delight, I ordered the chicken fried rice, an order of egg rolls, and one of their tea cakes. When it was time to pay, she killed my enthusiasm when she told me that they only took cash. I saw no signs in the lobby, but she them pointed to a small sign behind her. She then told me that there was an ATM at the corner store, across the street. I looked over and saw that the parking lot of the corner store was filled with the local "riff-raff." I chose to use Google Maps to find the closest bank ATM...which was about 3 miles away and sat in the middle of a huge, run down strip center parking lot. I was desperate and hungry, so I threw caution to the wind, drove to it, and hurriedly withdrew $20. Back at the restaurant, I paid for my food and waited about 10 minutes for my food. They called my order number, I grabbed the food, jumped into my car, and high-tailed it out of there...scraping the bottom of my car on the 45 degree inclined parking lot exit. At home, I laid everything out and began to partake. Long story short, the chicken fried rice was extremely salty, the egg rolls tasted like they had a vinaigrette mixed in, which left a weird, filmy taste on my tongue, and the tea cake tasted bland and more like a vanilla cookie than a tea cake. I threw it all away and settled for a home-made sandwich. This location is dead to me. I don't remember the food being this awful! read more

The food was good but I placed a phone order and wanted to pick it up at the drive through and they said Nope. There were too many dudes hanging by the door asking for money when I got there and I was alone. I don't trust people like I used to since I was robbed. Not too far from that establishment, so I didn't feel safe. read more

The restaurant is small so I assume most order to go, which is what I did. The lines are long and bleed out into the street but it moves rather quick. They only take cash so keep that in mind. I love LOVE that they offer plain fried rice because I hate veggies in my rice. They also offer the veggie fried rice as well. The chicken is perfectly fried and seasoned overall making the meal a 10/10 no notes. The red koolaid is always a must for me and lasts me a couple days because the cup is so big. I drive almost 10miles to get there but its worth it and the hype read more

My little sister had us come here and after hearing about it in South Park Mexican's songs for years I was ready. She got the Mongolian beef and it was pretty tasty honestly. Lots of good veggies and the meat had great flavor. My boyfriend and I split the honey bbq wings and had shrimp fried rice. Both were really tasty and delicious. We also had the lemon pepper wings which were probably the best item of them all. The place was clean and it was packed and we were happy to have finally experienced it. read more

Line was long for no reason ... I got shrimp fried rice (which had zero taste and shrimp 1/10 were small and pink as if they were dipped in food coloring) it completely ruined my appetite.... It's cash only .... The fried chicken was 5/10 ... Kool aid 8/10 read more

I honestly do not know what the big deal is about this place. The wings to me were extremely overpriced and under seasoned / flavorless. Also, the wait was ridiculous. The place is kind of ratty looking which I'm not knocking but if you're going to have your customers waiting for such extended amounts of time, at least have somewhere comfortable for them to wait and provide them with some complimentary items. read more

Today, I went to Timmy Chan on Lockwood and 610. I found a bug in my shrimp-fried rice. I'm assuming that it was cook along with the food. I decided to take a closer look, to make sure that it wasn't my imagination. I was not a rude customer. I guess I just came at a wrong day. When the employees and roaches was cooking at the same time. I definitely won't be coming back to this place. I should have listen to my first mind. When I ask myself, I said Self said Huh should I order here? Self said hell no turn your fat ass around. I will always hear negative feedback on this place. I decided to try my luck but never again. Some people can eat here at their own risk but not me. That did for me. read more

The OG Timmy Chan. Line was packed as usual in the drive through so I went inside. I haven't been to Timmy Chan in years so when I passed by this night I decided to see if the food was still good from back in the day. Customer service is lack luster. It's the food that gets the 5 stars. I ordered the wings and rice w/ gravy. Wings were fresh and steaming hot. When I made it home my food was still hot. My food was good. Don't sleep on the OG Timmy Chan. This hit the spot on a late hungry night. read more
