We've been going to the Candy Kitchen since the first time we looked at our house in Williamson almost 20 years ago. It's a great little restaurant. The staff is friendly, the food is good, their candy and chocolate is great (and made in house!) Mary, the owner, is often there. When they are busy you are just as likely to see her cooking at the grill as checking people out. As a former waitress, having management that will "get their hands dirty" during a rush makes a big difference in staff morale. If you're there around Easter, be patient, as their chocolate sales take up a lot of restaurant space! At Christmas time, get your order in early for their hand pulled ribbon candy. The options for Easter chocolate remind me of when I was a kid and my grandma would take my sisters and I to a local chocolatier. My body language after my first bite into the Haddock sandwich tells a person everything they need to know about a late lunch at the Original Candy Kitchen. It was close my eyes, sigh a big gratuitous sigh, and smile. Oh, and let's not forget the seafood bisque... after all, I went there just for the soup (NOT). The service here is friendly, courteous and also a bit on the "You're family here" side. Went back for a late breakfast about a week later and let me tell, you this kitchen knows how to do it (compared to some other recent places I've been at home or around Raleigh). Not new to this place at all. Came here a lot as a young man working shutdowns at Gonna. Always got a burger. So like 20 years later, and now living in the area, gotta go there! First, we went to Candy Kitchen a year ago for lunch. Had the meatloaf Sammy with hand cut fries. I have said if I have a last meal it would be OCKs meatloaf! Tender, moist, perfectly seasoned. And homemade fries? My fave! Sry, I tend to go on tangents. I had a huge serving of sausage gravy and homemade biscuits. I like eggs with this. Gravy was loaded with sausage and the gravy wasn't too pastey like some restaurants. Simply excellent Eggs were perfect. Wife's Omlette was also loaded and moist. Super cute local diner style restaurant. Lots of options, kind waitresses, and a candy shop to purchase your deserts to go! Seating is a little snug but clean and definitely a vibe when you're a newbie. Got the chicken salad special which came with broccoli soup. Soup was great! Chicken salad was really heavy on the Mayo. In fact they put more Mayo on the bread for the sandwich. Very average but good with a lot of fresh lettuce. Cant wait to come back and try something else. They even offer hand cut fries or frozen! This place was pretty good. There weren't a lot of places around where I was staying that seemed good for breakfast, but this place came up. Although a little out of the way (15 minutes), i'm glad I came. It is definitely a classic diner setup, good service, friendly staff, typical diner menu. I got the Reuben Benedict, which was pretty good. Eggs were cooked correctly, the corned beef was good, there was maybe a little too much sauerkraut, and the hollandaise sauce had flavor but was looked like it was just sitting around for a little bit. If I was in the area, i'd stop by again, i'd like to presume some of their other food is good as well, and it was constantly busy while I was there. read more

I grew up about 10 minutes from here but haven't lived in the area for over a decade so finally decided to try it when visiting. The service is top notch. Super friendly, great recommendations, constantly checked on us, didn't let coffee cups get close to empty, all the stuff you hope for. It was a Friday that I went and they're known for their fish (I think every Friday). I ordered mine Cajun grilled and my friend battered. Both excellent and the sides (sweet potato fries and veggies) were on point too. Great local diner style restaurant with great food. Likely will return before I leave. read more

Stopped for breakfast on our way out of Williamson. What a delight. It is a combination candy store and restaurant that serves up a delicious breakfast or lunch. They had a huge selection of breakfast items. The blueberry pancakes were thin and loaded with blueberries. They were scrumptious. Their special was cinnamon pancakes with a cinnamon glaze sprinkled with pecans and coffee cake crumbs. We didn't order the oatmeal but we noticed that it had so many blueberries on top you couldn't even see the oatmeal. The atmosphere is so friendly and inviting. Of course while paying the bill which was quite reasonable we stopped to look at all the mouth watering chocolates in the case. Yes, we came home with two extra large peanut butter cups, one made with Whit's chocolate and one with milk chocolate. We will be sure to make this a regular stop every time we head to Pultneyville! read more

This little gem was a good find. We stopped for breakfast on a Saturday morning. They have standard breakfast fare, but I enjoyed the breakfast wrap with eggs, 4 other fillings ( meat, cheese, veggies) in a tortilla. A pleasant surprise was the crispness of the tortilla wrap. Visiting relatives in Williamson, I asked them to suggest a place for me to take them to lunch on Sunday. "Original Candy Kitchen" (OCK) was an immediate response. If you read my other reviews, you can tell that this is the type of restaurant I really like. The OCK was comfortably full; we didn't have to wait to be seated. It is obviously a neighborhood favorite -- staff and customers were on first-name basis with each other. There was a lot of positive energy, which made for an enjoyable experience. We were greeted warmly, and our server was attentive to taking our order when she sensed that we were ready. I was hungry: I order steak & eggs, which came with hash brown potatoes with onions, and toast. The sunny-side-up eggs were prepared perfectly (not easy) and arrived with a nice runny yolk. A perfect complement to the potatoes. On a return trip to Williamson, I hope to return to OCK; and next time to treat myself to some of the candy. It looked great. read more

I went here for breakfast with my girlfriend, I ordered the Blueberry pancakes and sausage with orange juice, my girlfriend ordered the full stack of french toast. The atmosphere was quiet and inviting. We seated ourselves and the waitress promptly took our drink order and gave us a minute to look at the menu. There is a special board in the back of the restaurant, if I had noticed this I would have ordered something else, the waitress did not offer this information either. Next time I will be sure to check the board before ordering. The pancakes were very good, the blueberries appeared to be fresh and the sausage reminded me of sausage typical of McDonalds, which I like very much so I did not mind. My girlfriend also liked the sausage. My girlfriend liked her french toast very much, she ordered water to drink. The total bill was $14, not too bad for breakfast. Our waitress was very friendly, I only wish she would have pointed out the specials so I could have ordered the sausage gravy and biscuits, I will be sure to check next time though. The restaurant is on the main street in Williamson, after breakfast we walked around the town, a setting right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. As good as the breakfast was, the main thing this restaurant is known for is the home made candy they sell in the front of the store, because we were so full from breakfast we did not try any, but next time we will. This place is definitely worth a 2nd visit. read more
