Huge bowl of soup!
Chris K.

This used to be our favorite place to go for Chinese food for years and years. When things started reopening after covid and they didn't, we wondered if they ever would. Thankfully they did recently so we couldn't wait to get over there. The soup isn't on the menu, but they said they hope to add it back soon. We ordered our usual, chicken and veggies, but it seemed off. It just wasn't as good as we remembered, even tho we've been getting take out all through and after covid. When we recently found out they have a new owner that might explain it. The service was very friendly and attentive, but given the change in flavor not sure that we want to be disappointed again.

So sad I've been sleeping on Orient since I moved to this area months ago. I would always see a line of people in front of the window and I just thought it was because they hadn't started in person dining yet. No, well, maybe some was due to that, but most was due to the amazing food. Immediately upon walking in I was told to order the general tso chicken. However, I went with the broccoli and chicken, which I was told was also good. I got a side of fried rice and was excited upon opening my food. The dish had tons of chunks of chicken, broccoli, and carrots--literally I haven't seen pieces of carrots so big in my life. Similar to other reviews the food is good, but could use some additional seasoning. I decided to add red pepper and garlic when I got home and this really popped it up and gave it so more flavor-if they could do this in their kitchen it would make it even better! The service is also great and quick as well! Be prepared for two to three meals as they give you tons of food for a pretty good price. And now that I know I have a good Chinese fusion spot near me I will be checking them out more often.

I've been doing the Asian food thing since agreeing to do the Daniel's fast with my church. Orient Garden has always been my favorite, and I even forgot to order white meat only, but it didn't matter because it was mostly white meat. The food is always on point and it's so much for the value. You pay a couple dollars extra but you get twice as much. There is no actual service because it's a storefront opportunity. You can't eat in the restaurant, but when you could, they were always attentive. I do miss being able to sit down at their spot, but I understand that they are so busy as a to-go spot that they can't handle in store service. The place is clean, the staff is friendly, but you only interact for a few minutes. I wanted Mongolian beef, too- but with the fast approaching, I couldn't do it all. 100% the best spot in Durham.

The absolute best sesame chicken I've ever had. The general tso could have been spicer for my liking though. The portions were HUGE and the sides of broccoli were generous as well. They only have to go which I don't mind

We've been searching South Durham for a good Chinese restaurant for years. This one is definitely the best we have come across. Currently, they are not open for indoor dining. They have a great setup for takeout so you don't even need to go inside! They also have paid attention to small sanitary details like having a dirty pen bin so you are only picking out a clean one. The portions were huge! We ordered two combination dinners and we probably could have shared one! The combination dinners come with your choice of soup, egg/spring roll and white/fried rice. The hot and sour soup was nice and spicy! The spring roll was also great. By the time I got through the soup and spring roll I was already getting full! I had Kung Pao Chicken as my main dish and made sure to ask for white meat. It was yummy and I had leftovers for days!

I love the General Tso's Chicken and The Szechuan Beef. Food is always consistently great at any of these locations.

The sesame chicken here is out of this world. Ask for it extra crispy when you order it. Food comes out quick and hot too no matter the day.

We just found our new favorite Chinese restaurant in Durham!…read more We placed an online order for pickup and ordered the Beef Chow Fun and General Tso's Chicken, and we were delightfully surprised by how good everything was! The General Tso's Chicken had a wonderful taste and just the right amount of crispiness, which I absolutely love. It came with fried rice that was delicious and perfectly cooked without being greasy. The Beef Chow Fun was equally impressive, with well-seasoned noodles and incredibly tender beef with a slight crispness. Everything was cooked just right, and we couldn't have been happier with our meal. We're already looking forward to ordering again. If you're looking for great Chinese takeout in Durham, give Shanghai a try!

Also, since my husband and I can't eat rice we requested noodles with our entree and I was told outright that they could not do that so we ordered soup and an egg roll. Our guests ordered a meal and said it was good. So that was good. It was my fault that I didn't tell them to serve our soup and egg roll as an entree as it was served right away and our guests food arrived 20 minutes later. I doubt I will be going back any time soon.

Finally had a chance to try Wheat this week and boy was it worth the wait! We had minced beef…read morenoodles and braised beef noodle soup. Also got some pork dumplings. I tried a lemon/lime drink that was very tasty and refreshing. The restaurant was super clean. We were seated and orders taken quickly. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. Our food was very delicious and flavorful! Portions were perfect- not huge but not too small either. The waiter talked us into dessert since they make some homemade on site. I tried the tiramisu cake- yum! Prices were about what most places are charging for entrees now. I'll be back!

We waited for a bit, and eventually someone approached us, but that was a little annoying. Service after that was fine and relatively fast. Food-wise, I got the Home-style braised tofu and Mango pomelo sago. The tofu had a savory sauce that didn't have a ton of flavor other than braised soy, but did have lots of well-cooked veggies and large tofu pieces. At some point they ran out of rice, and the rice they did give me a lot later was unfortunately overcooked. The mango pomelo sago was really good actually, perfect amount of sweetness, strong mango and pomelo flavors, nice texture from sago. Ambiance is nice. Parking in this area is a little limited. 6.5/10 would maybe recommend.

Our go-to dim sum spot near Chapel Hill!…read more This is a wonderful family-run restaurant that blends modern simplicity with traditional charm. The staff are incredibly friendly and hardworking, and the atmosphere feels both welcoming and authentic. All items are affordable and with reasonable prices! It's the only legit dim sum place near Chapel Hill/Carrboro, about a 25-minute drive for us--and we gladly make the trip almost every week. We simply can't get enough of their food! Warning: Everything on their menu is dangerously addictive. You've been warned! Our Favorites 2. Pork Dumpling (Siu Mai / Siomai) -- Steamed pork in a wonton wrapper, perfectly juicy with just the right balance of pork and vegetables in every bite. A delicious classic done right. 6. Beef Onion Dumpling in Chili Sauce -- One of the best dumplings we've had--and we've been to dim sum spots all over the world! The beef is flavorful and juicy, wrapped in a thin, perfectly chewy skin. The chili sauce complements the filling beautifully without overpowering it. Generous portion, amazing value, flawless execution. 9. Steamed BBQ Pork Bun -- Soft, fluffy buns filled with mildly sweet BBQ pork. Comforting, classic, and delicious every time. 11. Egg Yolk Bun -- Lightly sweet custard filling inside soft steamed buns. The perfect bite of dessert to end your dim sum feast. 16. Bean Skin Stuffed with Pork -- Juicy, lightly seasoned pork wrapped in delicate bean skin. Flavorful but not overpowering--simple and satisfying. 27. Crispy Shrimp Ball -- Juicy and lightly seasoned shrimp goodness inside a crispy ball. They disappeared into the void of my stomach as soon as they touched our table. 28. Crispy Taro Puff with Chicken -- Think of these as bite-sized empanadas with savory, well-seasoned chicken inside--like the best mini chicken pot pies! Crispy, flavorful, and completely addictive. I could easily eat 30 of these! 41. Crispy Beef Onion Pot Sticker -- Pan-fried to golden perfection for that satisfying crunch. The beef and chives inside are juicy and flavorful, and the portions are generous. I dream about these dumplings when I'm asleep. Absolute perfection. Take all my money! The Finishing Touch Dim sum is meant to be enjoyed with tea, and they offer a simple traditional brew that pairs beautifully with every dish. If there's one downside--it's that they're only open Friday through Sunday. We wish they were open all week! Everything on their menu is so good! Best Dimsum and service in Durham!

Came here on a Friday evening. We were greeted by our server who attempted to lead us to a table…read morebut got caught in something else. We were left hanging for a bit until another waiter came along and led us to our table. It's nice that they provide water at the table so you don't need to ask for refills. We browsed the menu and eventually ordered, we got the Mapo Tofu, Stir Fried Pork, Lamb Dish, Chili Oil Wontons, Xiao Long Bao with Crabmeat, and the Beef Noodles. Each of us got a service of rice as well. The Mapo Tofu was flavorful but didn't have any meat sauce in it. It paired nicely with the rice. The Stir Fried Pork was also good and had a nice flavor and the Pork was tender. The Lamb Dish was a bit disappointing as they tried to do to much to the Lamb and it had too much of that velvety meat flavor and lost a lot of the original meaty flavor, the veggies were good. The Chili Oil Wontons left a lot to be desired. Not enough heat nor filling in the Wontons. The Xiao Long Bao was a bit disappointing as well. Not enough soup and the crab meat was just OK. The beef noodles also tasted too plain and the noodles/broth was a bit cold and not warm enough. The service was fairly good as our waiter came back around multiple times to see how everything was. It got very busy as we started getting our food. Overall not a bad experience. It was a bit weird how there was no music playing inside.
