Walking into the store you're transported to Japan. The curry is so good and you can increase the spice. Get the katsu

Little disappointed with this place. I was hoping it would be like curry house in Tokyo & Honolulu but it wasn't. Also the portion size was not that big considering we all had large. We paid over $130. Parking & wait time was horrible.

Most authentic Japanese curry from Japan! I crave curry every once in a while and I cook at home, try places around. This is by far the best curry I've had outside of japan. I chatted with the staff all from Japan, and decided to order spicy tonkatsu curry with extra prawns. I had ebi fry craving but wanted to try number one seller. They have eggplant curry, natto curry, etc that sound really good I want to try next. The curry is moderately spicy but I like the heat that go really well with mild flavor of deep fried toppings. Fukujinduke which is sweet pickled daikon radish is also the good accompaniment. Very traditional, full of flavor and never tired type of curry I'm glad that they opened the restaurant in Richmond. I would love them to open restaurants in US next! What I am always impressed about restaurants from Japan are great staff, quality ingredients, cleanliness, consistency and authenticity. Keep up your great job!

Wow! What an amazing experience. I never thought I'd find authentic Japanese curry right un my own backyard. This establishment is supposedly a branch from the one in Osaka, Japan. The curry is light and flavourful. Just like the one in Japan. The pork cutlet, right ration between fat and lean meat. The texture was tender and juicy. Very similar to japan. The only thing not exactly like Japan is the panko breadcrumbs used. Don't get me wrong, despite this it was still good. Very good. Better than majority of the Japanese places in Vancouver. Tried both the pork and chicken cutlet and Portions come in regular and large. I must say, even the regular is good enough. Right amount of meat and rice and sauce. Place was clean and service was quick and with a smile. 1 thing i didn't like was no free house tea provided. Just cold water. This is not very Japanese-like. Overall, i would repeat. Cheers! Happy eating!

Pork Katsu Curry (with added sausage and onsen egg)

A friend recently suggested we go to Oretachi Curry - a franchise originally from Osaka, Japan. I was super excited for this as I love Japanese curry due to its sweetness in nature. The restaurant is located in Steveston Village and is quite small and cozy. I noticed right after we sat that it immediately began to busy up with lots of people waiting for a seat. The (who I assumed to be) owner was super sweet and even brought out glasses of tea for the parties who were waiting outside. I love seeing little gestures like this, it really brightens my day! Since it was my first time, I opted for a classic pork katsu curry. The menu has a variety of different protein choices and also curry ramen choices as well. I like that you can choose plate size (size up for additional cost) and also spice level. There is also a large variety of add-ons for select prices. Do take note that your order only comes with rice, curry, and whichever protein listed on the menu...No veggies or any additional toppings. I was a bit sad that green onion costed $2.50 to add on...I opted for the onsen egg which costed the same. There is however, complimentary tonkatsu sauce, spice seasoning, and pickles (I went to town on the pickles :)). The curry is VERY yummy!!! It definitely caters more to my tastebuds as it is umami and sweet!! The katsu is also decent and was still cripsy even with curry sauce mixed over top. My friend prefers savoury flavours more so she added a sausage ($5) and it was perfect for her! We both picked the small size curry and it was enough food for the both of us. I recommend sizing up if you are feeling extra hungry or you like lots of rice. Overall, I would definitely return whenever I'm craving curry but I probably wouldn't frequent this place all the time as I usually love having a complete meal with all food groups etc. I can hear my bf telling me "you don't pay for vegetables when you eat out that's not worth it" so this is a good place to bring someone who "does not pay for vegetables" LOL. Service is also lovely and staff are very attentive. Note: It does get busy during peak hours as the restaurant is small so be prepared to wait!

Pork Cutlet Curry (Medium - Rice/Curry) + Ito En Iced Green Tea

There are only about 9 tables of 2 with a couple combined to make tables of 4, and a couple of window bar seats for people watching. They do not take reservations so come early or off times unless you like waiting in line. Turn over doesn't seem that long as most come for the food and don't stay that long to hang. For my first visit, I had the Pork Cutlet Curry with sized-up to Medium (an extra +100g of rice and +90ml curry), for an extra $2.50. The pork cutlet, was perfectly deep fried, tender and moist. The curry was deliciously smooth with a hint of sweetness. The short grain rice, cooked perfectly. I chose to size-up to Medium so I can compare it with my peers' Small versions. I have to admit, I couldn't tell the difference even with the extra 100g/90g (rice/curry). I did notice that the pork cutlet I received was much smaller compared to my other 4 fellow first timers. Just the luck of the draw, I suppose. Super friendly Japanese service and amazing Japanese curry. That hits the spot perfectly.

Very cute little Japanese curry shop in Steveston. The space is not very large but there is still a decent amount of seating and everything is nicely decorated. We went early on a Friday at 4PM so there was basically no one else there. The curry was delicious. It was kind of sweet which was interesting. The cutlets were also very crispy and well cooked. I liked that they have different size options and the small size was perfect for me. It is a bit on the expensive side and I think I personally prefer other Japanese curry places more (like Saku). Overall a pleasant experience and the service was nice but the place didn't feel too special.

The curry is really good. It's flavorful but as it is a japanese curry, the curry flavor is mild in a good way. The pork katsu has nice bread crumbs. It's crispy and nice but the best part of the meal is the curry sauce. The portion is large for the price. I almost didn't finish it. The restaurant is quite small but has a nice interior.

Chicken cutlet miso ramen. Hayashi Rice with Pork Cutlet. And kids' meals with added poached egg

This cozy, cute shop has 3.4 stars, in my opinion. I was in the area and decided to try it out. You can order via QR code on the table or from their menu. Their menu focuses on curries and ramen. I tried the chicken cutlet miso ramen, but unfortunately, I wasn't a fan. The broth was very thick and quite salty, more like a sauce than a traditional Japanese ramen soup. Perhaps it's supposed to be this way. I would have preferred to get a curry with rice instead or have a traditional japanese soupy ramen. My husband enjoyed the hayashi rice with an added pork cutlet, and the portion size was good. The kids' meal shows, for children 12 and under, but unless your child is a very light eater, it's too small for most 8-12 year olds. It comes with a small scoop of rice and a decent amount of curry, but it's more suited for 2-4 years old. I could have ordered extra rice for my kids if I'd known, but I didn't realize the rice portion would be so small. I did add poached egg to the kids' meals. The entree hayashi rice came with a good amount of rice, so we just gave some to the kids. Honestly, I probably wouldn't return.

A Japanese curry place in Steveston Village with a good amount of seating. We came here at opening on a weekend so there was still plenty of room available. They also have an outdoor seating area which I think will be quite nice during the summer. I ordered the pork cutlet curry while R ordered the beef tendon curry. Both were delicious with lots of flavour and we are excited to be back!

Interesting small curry shop First time coming to a Japanese curry specialty shop here in BC. -- there are not that many around. I've heard good things about this place from colleagues and decided to give it a shot. It's easy to find cause of the signs that directed you that way and the small lineups there, but parking isn't super convenient. The shop is small but turnover is relatively quick, so we didn't have to wait too long before we are seated. Menu is medium sized with a decent variety of items. I like how there's a kid friendly (non spicy) version for all curry. The fried items were amazing. Fresh, and crunchy. The curry flavor however is just standard. Very similar to the packaged Japanese curry cubes that you can buy from grocery stores. Not saying it's bad, just nothing out of the ordinary. To be honest, I came for japanese curry, and they delivered. I probably shouldn't expect anything out if the world. Anyways overall pretty good experience. Servers were nice, food was pretty. I'll likely be back again. I would recommend the rice with more heat for anyone who just wants to try one dish and nothing else. Food 7. Service 8. Ambiance 7. Value 7.5

    Tonkatsu curry, small

Good spot if you're craving for katsu curry. Online take out ordering was easy and you can pay at the restaurant if you want to. The containers have separate compartments. Katsu breading was good, the pork loin was fine. There are some bits I couldn't chew through. The regular curry is a little bit too sweet for me, I would probably go up a step in spiciness to add more dimension. I got small but there is plenty of curry for the amount of rice.

We sat in a separate section of the restaurant with 3 tables at the front. We ordered chicken wings, assorted tempura, miso black cod and an order of beef teriyaki that was not on the menu. The servings are very small for the prices charged. We found that the chicken wings (only 4 small wings) $9.50 were a bit dry. The tempura batter was not as crisp or crunchy as we've had. The miso black cod was a very small portion - maybe 4 oz. for $18.00. We did not feel that there was value for the money. The food was average and the prices were too high for the quality and amount of food received. We opted to share the Zenbu set (comes with variety of pork, chicken, cheese, seafood and veggie tempura) and realized we could get refillable rice, soup, and salad for both of us. This was awesome!
