Wow, wow, wow! My family and I had a wonderful experience. I don't even think I can express in a review accurately how much we enjoyed the evening. We went August 3, 2018 at 5:30pm. The last time we went to the Ore House was maybe 10 years ago and it was not like how the restaurant is now. The place has been remodeled inside and the menu is updated. It was such an improvement and I love the new things. Our server, Nic, omg he deserves a raise or something. He was so attentive but not in a fake pushy way(which a lot of servers are like). He got all our ridiculous requests correct and trust me some people in my family like to order things and then have a novel long list of things they want different. So Nic is amazing! The food, there are no proper words to describe how good it was. The calamari delicious, corn bread nice and moist, lobster so succulent, deserts so yummy, and the special banana daiquiri the bar tender made was such a treat. Five stars are clearly not enough for the wonderful experience we all had. So thank you to the Ore House for a very special experience. read more

First time visitors. The menu was robust & the staff were particularly attentive once we were seated. Everyone paid special attention to dietary restrictions for the 11-year-old in our party of four, even making a custom mocktail to satisfy the desire for a soda. The steaks were perfectly prepared (one Ore House style, one surf & turf and one pepper style - all delicious) and the sides were spot-on, especially the loaded baked potato with hatch green chile - a perfect amount of heat to balance the meal. The restaurant is really interesting. First of all, it is TINY! There cannot be more than about 10 tables. The kitchen is right off the dining area, so you can basically see the chefs preparing each meal - which says a lot - they certainly have nothing to hide. The food is good. My group had basically everything from seafood to steak - which was all good. Each entrée comes with the salad bar which is not extensive but ample. We used to go to this place years ago when we lived in Durango. It was always a great place with reasonable values. Now it's ridiculous. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy. $60.00 for the cheapest steak and it comes with nothing. A baked potato is an extra 8.00 and a salad for at least 10.00. The food is ok but not outstanding to warrant prices like this. This place has been here for 50 years. I'm sure rent isn't the problem. Greed is. We'll never come back. read more

The Ore House has always been one of our favorite restaurants. We travel from Utah or California each year near Christmas time to eat there. The quality and service is as good as ever but it's now more expensive for less. Be sure to take advantage of the continuing offers. This is a gold nugge in Durango. Sean waited on us and did a great job in exposing the history of the restaurant as well as the food preparation. Sean explained that each meal is made to order. I had the filet mignon and my wife had the Land-sea-sea ... or land -land-sea. Either way she enjoyed it very much and was cooked to perfection. We enjoyed this small place so much we came back two nights later before leaving Durango on the next morning. Great steak but the other entrees are... meh. My boyfriend wanted a really good basic steak so I took him here. He loved his steak and the salad bar. The bread basket is super yummy! I ordered a chicken plate that was $18. The rice was under cooked and the chicken tasted like something you'd get from a frozen dinner. 5-Stars All The Way!! If a large bathroom is important to you, this isn't your place LOL. Aside from the hysterically small men's room (you have to see it to believe it) this place delivers on so many levels I don't know where to start. We arrived early for a business dinner and bellied up to the bar for a quick cocktail. Ordered a single Vodka, on the rocks and the very friendly bartender delivered a generous pour. I hate when restaurants are stingy on the pour. Not this place! The restaurant itself is small. I recommend getting a reservation which is easy to do online. The menu is simple and includes steak and seafood with the sides ordered separate similar to Ruth's Chris or Morton's. By the way, the food we received here at Ore House was better than both of those restaurants. I ordered a small Prime Flat Iron steak (10 oz) with the Tobacco Onions (Holy Crapoly are these things good!!!!). Steak came out piping hot and cooked to perfection and cut easily without a knife. When you order with the Tobacco Onions (like deep fried onion strips) you get three dipping sauces on the side. I never used any of the sauces as the steak was incredibly delicious by itself of with the fried onions. We ordered a bottle of Silver Oak Cab also and if you know your wines, you know this one is particularly good... and not too overpriced in the restaurant. And served at the perfect temperature. The staff are incredible. No less than three different servers stopped to check how our meal was going. Top notch all the way. Go! Enjoy!!! read more

Recommeded to us by the bed and breakfast we are staying at...what a night! We started with the steak tartare. SO FREAKING GOOD! Perfect buttered crostinis and baby greens surrounds the garlic and oil dressed steak and egg yolk. Probably the most amazing food I have eaten in some time. Next course was surf & surf & turf. Rare bacon wrapped filet medallions, crab and lobster on top of decadent hollandaise. Asparagus and potatoes. The ambiance was casual but the food was 5 star. The drinks were original and fun. Walking into the old restaurant it is very western and vintage with dim lighting and wooden interior. We shared the chateaubriand for two. Great food, subpar service. Our waiter seemed to be more focused on his other tables, he never refilled our water and we probably would have had another drink had he asked. On that note, AWESOME cocktails. I recommend the Crimson & Clover if you're into champagne/wine and Respect Your Elder for a floral twist on a Manhattan. Loved the aroma of the rosemary in Respect Your Elder. Peruvian Style Ceviche app didn't have much ceviche, it was more like a fruit salsa with a few bits of fish in it. But the steak - oh my word. So tender and delicious. I had the Surf & Surf & Turf; they did overcook one of my medallions, but I didn't want to complain. The lobster was perfect, the crab and bearnaise paired wonderfully with the beef. My fiances NY Strip was perfectly cooked and really didn't need the sauces that accompanied it. The Ore House was pretty tasty! We started off with a French onion soup and lobster bisque soup. Both of the soups were different but good. The cornbread was okay. I had the petite filet which was great with the peppercorn sauce. The sauce made a huge difference. Then my husband had the 18 oz prime ribeye. He said it was great. We had the Mac and cheese also with crab and bacon. I enjoyed both. Then for dessert we had tiramisu. Now that was outstanding!! Overall, great experience and fun atmosphere! read more
