ORCHARD VALLEY SOCIAL The NEW restaurant Social is a mixed bag of over priced food, subpar beef, huge desserts, vegan options, decent setvice, and a very nice aesthetical makeover. There's lots of room for improvement still, as one would expect after only a week. They deserve more time to make this an attractive dining experience. Perhaps they'll succeed where 3 previous attempts failed. read more

Called ahead to alert them of a party of 9. No problem they said. When we arrived, they advised the dining room was closed for a meeting later but they were able to put 3 tables together in the bar. Not comfortable and really noisy. They did not have a real bartender. The lady struggled to make a screwdriver and was unable to make a tom collins. Took over 1/2 hour to get drinks or get our orders taken. Despite advising that we were all separate checks, they put them all together and took well over 1/2 hour to try and get them to us when we were trying to leave. Food was acceptable when it finally came - one of the party served 20 minutes after the last of the rest of us. Service was abysmal - worst ever. No way will we ever come back to this poor attempt at a restaurant. read more

Restaurant under new management as of 5/1/2023. Stopped in for a late lunch after golf. Excellent, friendly service. I had the reuben with cole slaw; both were very good. Thin sliced corned beef with yummy sauerkraut, et al. Marbled rye grilled to a nice crispness. Cole slaw creamy and tasty. My friends had the braut (just average) and fries and chicken fingers (nicely done and home made). We will be stopping in after golf on a regular basis ! They also are open for the dinner menu at 4 PM; check it out online. It's a serious step up from where this restaurant has been for the past years. read more

They don't take reservations. Told us just to come in. We showed up with 8 people today (all 4 couples coming separately and meeting there) only to find it closed to the public because of a golf outing - something I would have known if I'd called for a reservation. I won't be back. They obviously don't value my business enough to give me a reservation. read more

I had heard and read about this restaurant on the Fox Valley Park District's website and literature but hadn't had a chance to visit yet. I finally had my chance yesterday, when my good girlfriend and I met here for a lovely girls lunch out. It's a beautifully landscaped area, the restaurant is located in the main golf club building with views of the green. It's located on the West side of Orchard on Illinois Street. It's beautifully decorated with sconces and lighting fixtures that remind me of Frank Lloyd wright, the staff is friendly, courteous, and prompt. The menu is varied enough and provides good traditional fare. The iced tea is not fresh-made but from mix. I had a pescatarian lunch of the blackened salmon (a little too well cooked tho) which came with a couple of asparagus spears and I chose a side of the scalloped apples, an iced tea with lemon, and topped it all off with a delicious slice of bourbon pecan pie. I don't usually like pecan pie, but this is a new favorite. Very moist and flavorful, and small enough slice to not walk away overindulged. My friend enjoyed the salmon topped spinach salad, a flavored iced tea, and the huge portion of tiramisu. I think one tiramisu is perfect for two people. We were relaxed, happy, and truly enjoyed ourselves. The crowd that visits this restaurant varies from the elderly to mature individuals, to some younger folks around the bar's dining area. I hear from my friend that the restaurant is wonderful to work with for special events. I would definitely return. read more

It seems to have been a long time since someone reviewed Orchard Valley's Restaurant. In the last 6 months, MK and I (and friends) have been about 3 times, but I waited until we dined here again to write a review so that it was fresh in my mind. We decided to celebrate Sweetest Day by going to Orchard Valley's Restaurant (10/20/2007). Previous trips have gone very well, with all party members enjoying their dinners and leaving very full. It's October and Orchard Valley is celebrating a bit of Octoberfest as well, so the daily specials reflected a German influence. The evening started off great when MK and I both ordered Diet Coke and Elizabeth our waitress showed up with two large glasses, PLUS a small carafe of extra for us. You just don't see this in restaurants anymore. Additionally, we got two hot, garlic-buttered rolls which were very large and tasty. MK ordered the NY Strip and I ordered the October special Weinerschnitzel. Dinners come with soup or salad and your choice of fruit of the day, or starch (except for mine, which came with Spaetzel) and the vegetable of the day. MK opted to upgrade the soup to the Baked French Onion and I had the daily special Chicken Rosamarina. Both soups arrived hot (very hot) and were tasty. The French Onion had a ton of melted cheese as well and the chicken in my soup had been grilled (v. tasty) prior to being put in the soup. Our dinners arrived and were exactly as ordered. The NY Strip was on a massive bed of fried onion strings and the baked potato was flaming hot and massive as well. The Weinerschnitzel, although thicker cut than it really should be, was FANTASTIC. The spaetzel were perfectly made as well and had just enough butter on them. I flashed back to a now closed restaurant called The Golden Ox (Clybourn and North in Chicago), where I had had a similar meal countless times before and this, my friends, was as good if not better! Who'd have guessed that the Fox Valley Park District could put out such a good quality meal? I had heard that the food was good (well before the last 6 months of just going) and this, for the fourth time in 6 months, continues to impress and live up to that. We DID decide to do dessert here as it was Sweetest Day. I had the Chocolate temptation cake and MK ended up having the Apple Strudel (October special). She doesn't like raisins in her strudel and this one didn't have any in them. It LOOKED hand-made (DK if it was) and was served hot. All it needed to top it off was some cinnamon ice cream but they didn't have any. Mine was your typical over-chocolate cake and was good, but not spectacular. I continue to be impressed by the quality of food here. We HAVE had mixed service results, but overall, it hasn't detracted from the meal or evening. This could be our hidden gem within 5 miles of our house. We should be probably eating here once a month as well since the prices are very affordable. read more

We arrived at 5 pm on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in May. Memorial Day weekend.We seated ourselves outside to take in the scenery and watch the golfers. We waited 10 minutes and no waitress showed up, so my husband went in the bar area and asked if we could be served. The bartender said he'd be out in a few minutes. My husband told him we wanted 2 Waters and 1 Diet Coke. A few minutes later the bartender brought our drinks and menus. We waited over 15 minutes and he never came back! We had finished our drinks and hadn't even ordered food yet. My daughter had to be somewhere at 6:30, so we initially had an hour and a half to eat, but now it was already heading on 5:30 and we hadn't even ordered. We decided to leave, along with a table a few down from us with 2 older women who came out and sat at a table the same time we did. The bartender never even stopped at their table. They got up and left too.I left $2 under my empty glass to pay for my pop, which I might add, was SO watered down there was hardly any taste to it. We went down the street to Buffalo Wild Wings, sat outside and ate our meal with a nice waitress. We ate, paid and left and still got home in time for my daughter to leave at 6:30. I imagine we'd still be sitting at Orchard Valley waiting for a refill on our drinks if we'd stayed there . I know of someone who ate at Orchard Valley outside last fall. He said he waited over 45 minutes for his food and then someone came out and said they had no chef! No chef, so no food! They offered him a food voucher for another time and he told them no thanks, he won't be back. Who manages this place? They don't have a clue how to run a restaurant. We had tried to eat here the past few years and had lousy service too. We had tried their Nachos and they were pretty good. Next week we went back, ordered Nachos and they gave us a cold, awful mess. It looked like cold leftover hamburgers chopped up and thrown on stale tortilla chips. They drizzled liquid cheese on top. The whole thing was old, stale and cold! I couldn't eat it. The time before when ordered it, it had what tasted like freshly cooked ground beef with seasoning, real shredded cheese, and fresh tortilla chips and it was heated and cheese melted. Whomever prepared it the 2nd time just went to the fridge and threw stuff on stale chips and brought it out to us! We tried to eat there on a Friday night (outside on the patio) and when we arrived we found a private party using the dining room, so they said they couldn't cook food for us on the patio. The following night, a Saturday, we arrived and there was another private party and again we were told to leave. The following Friday and Saturdays we tried to eat again and were turned away. We gave up and didn't try to return at all for a long time. Management is awful, no service, no idea how to run a restaurant. Tired of being turned away every weekend because of private parties in the restaurant. We didn't want to eat IN the restaurant, just wanted to sit on the patio and eat burgers. Nope, can't cook up a burger. Last summer we managed to eat on the patio and I ordered a burger and fries. They brought out potato chips. When I questioned it, they just said "We are out of french fries". Well, you could have told me that when I ordered! They have a gas fire pit on the patio, which years ago, they used to fire it up when it started to get dark and they lit tiki lamps along the edge of the patio. Now the pit sits there unlit and it's full of disgusting cigarette butts! No tiki lights and no fun to be out there when it gets dark. This place will go out of business and they'll wonder why. The rest of us know why. read more

First time around was shortly after they opened for the season and service was terrible. Since outdoor patio is so nice, we figured we try again. Nope - still awful. Worse yet, I order the Salmon sandwich and a few minutes later our server comes back to inform me they are currently out of Salmon. I ask for the menu to decide again. Decide on the Reuben; she responds, we don't have that either. My response: "perhaps it would be easier if you jus told me what you DO have so we don't waste anymore time for every one else to receive their food" (party of 5). I ended up hastily ordering a salad that I didn't want and didn't enjoy so the others could get their food and not be delayed any further. Worse yet, no compensation or complimentary anything, or visit from the manager apologizing. Service stills leaves little to be desired which is unfortunate since we love the course. read more

This place is a dump. The dining room was dark and dingy, no Christmas decorations whatsoever (which they had done beautifully in years past), dirty carpet, dirty chairs that looked like they'd been untouched since the '80s. Even though there was only one other party dining when we arrived, we waited nearly ONE HOUR for our meals. Our server was minimally attentive, and afterwards gave us a lame excuse for the lousy service by laying it on a cook who supposedly didn't show up for work. The food itself was mediocre at best. One of the people in our party ordered a beef tenderloin sandwich and got pork instead. My coleslaw tasted like sand and my reuben sandwich tasted like a cardboard box. They should have comped the entire meal but instead, did nothing. The staff doesn't even have the energy or pride to load the paper towels in the dispenser in the men's room. read more

Never thought a brunch buffet could be this bad. Felt like they were short staffed on one of the notoriously busy brunch days of the year (mothers day). Made reservations but still had to wait 45 minutes in a sardine packed hallway to get sat. Once sat waited 10 minutes with no waitress so we got up to get our food. A couple people stayed behind to put in a drink order for when the waitress finally stopped by. We, again, waited in the buffet line to come across cold and/or no food. There was little to no eggs, bacon, sausage, doughnuts, biscuits and gravy, or dinner plates...all while this was happening the manager/hostess was at the bar on her phone. I will stop at a cheap buffet before dining at this establishment again. Unorganized with over the top prices for sub par (no golfing pun intended ) food. read more

I've only been here twice, but enjoyed both times I've been! The first was in Dec 2011 for a gym Christmas party (yes, the 5:30am faithful organize a Christmas party every year). We had about 40 people in our group (everything was pre-arranged by two awesome people in our group). I ordered the Salmon with Dill sauce and LOVED it! My in-laws also hosted our rehearsal dinner here. I believe Sean was the go-to person my MIL worked with. Usually, a menu is created ahead of time with 4 options (that you get to choose). We opted for Ribeye, Chicken Parmesan, Blackened Salmon and Fried Shrimp (we chose the latter two because our rehearsal dinner was on a Friday during Lent and we wanted everyone to have a fair choice :)). In addition, Sean added their two St. Patrick's Day (we got married on St. Patty's Day) specials to the menu at no extra cost: these were Shepherd's Pie and Corned Beef and Cabbage. We were also able to choose which desserts off their menu we wanted for our dinner (we chose four; I'm drawing a blank as to which four, but I know Snickers Cheesecake and a Chocolate cake were definitely included). I was frustrated because they ran out of some of their desserts and some people in our party were not able to order what they wanted. Other than that, food was great, drinks were awesome. Definitely a place I recommend, and seeing that it's less than 2 miles from my house, a place I will go again :) read more

What an absolutely terrible Mother's Day brunch! Unorganized mass of people in the hallway waiting to be seated, then when finally seated at 35 minutes after the reservation, you wait and wait and wait for a server to get your drink order, and when your server finally comes and takes your order, she asks you to wait because she doesn't know if the buffet is available yet. Ten minutes later, the server comes back with the drinks and leaves again, without a word. Drink order was incorrect. The server returns a few minutes later to check on another newly seated table, and we inform her of the problem with the drink order. She finally returns with the correct drinks, is about to leave again, when we asked if we can go to the buffet yet. She has to check. Eventually, we are told it is open. Upon walking around a corner to the buffet, we see that there are already people there, and the plates are running low. We get our food, return to the table, and find that most of it is cold or inedible. For example, the chicken and salmon were dry beyond belief, the eggs were still powdery, the sausage was just odd, and the salad and fruit was laid out on a low table with no plastic "sneeze" cover, just placed on a table at kid hand level. Not sanitary at all. The Prime Rib and breakfast potatos were actually excellent. The ham was ok, a bit dry but ok. Decided to return for more breakfast potatos as most of the other food on the plate was not edible. There were no more plates and most of the buffet offerings were empty! Many, many angry people, as some of the people waiting for food had just been seated (very, very disorganized in the seating department). Grabbed a couple of desserts - red velvet cake and some petit fours. The cake was moist, but very, very sweet, too sweet for red velvet cake. The petit fours were dried out, as if they had been frozen and developed freezer burn. You are supposedly given 90 minutes between seating to eat your food. Because we were seated at 35 minutes past our reservation, we had less than an hour to eat, during which time the food and plates ran out and were only replenished much later, near the time for the following seating to begin. There was another long line starting for the next seating while we were still waiting for the food to be replenished. Not sure how long they had to wait for their seating to begin, as the restaurant was still full from our seating time. Our waitress was complaining about how she was expected to flip tables, but she said she had no time for that. She was rather disgruntled. We, the paying customers, were very, very disgruntled! I spoke to a manager, and when I was explaining to her the issues, she started telling me that she doesn't handle aspect A, B, or C of the dining, only aspect D. Obviously there is a major lack of communication here if one manager is not interested in the problems that are being experienced by customers that paid a lot of money for what was expected to be a nice Mother's Day Brunch! My money was wasted on this horrible place. Almost $40 per person, with tax, not including tip. We will never, ever go to this restaurant again. Absolute waste of money. read more

Pretty good restaurant in the clubhouse of a golf course in a part of Aurora that's the rule these days - that of well-scrubbed, recently-built subdivisions. The service is just fine, and the food is good, if not a bit ordinary. Multiple generation families welcomed. read more

I visit about once a year at Christmas time, when I'm in town from Southern California. Love the landscape and views from the dining area. Ambiance is warm and lively. Food is good and hearty; generous proportions. Great to see this type of business survive on the west side. read more

If you are looking for a place to have a business lunch, then this is the place. It is a suburban golf-course restaurant, I have only been there with co-workers and it would never occur to me to take anyone else there at any other time of the day. Not expensive and I have never seen it crowded for a weekday lunch. Service is always friendly. This place is the utility infielder of Aurora lunch spots. read more

So this place is a bit of a local secret. It's a bit off the usual track considering it's in the clubhouse of a golf course but the trip is absolutely worth it. Orchard Valley Restaurant used to be one of my husband's and my favorite restaurants around here. The food was excellent, the wait staff was very friendly, as was the manager/owner. The ambiance was also quite lovely w/ the golf course in view and the inside very beautifully decorated. The restaurant is now called Orchards as it has, unfortunately, changed hands. Some of the original staff is still there, but the newer staff is not nearly as friendly. The menu has also changed and the food is not as good as it used to be. We have our HOA year end dinner there every year and our dinner in February was far from exceptional. The waitress was exceedingly rude to our group, the food was poorly prepared, they were out of several "specialty" menu items though they continued to give out the little specialty menu when the food wasn't available, and the cuts of meat they actually had were terrible quality. No one was impressed with the food or the service. The bar still serves good burgers if you'd rather have a more causal experience, but we are avoiding the restaurant going forward. Such a shame because this truly was a great place to eat. read more

My husband and I ate supper there last night. I had a pork chop and it was very good. I was unhappy with my potato choice. I ordered the red potato because I love them but the serving size was very small. Nothing compared to a baked potato; My husband had the large shrimp and they were not very large. We held a bridal shower here actually because the restaurant space looked really nice and is a good location. The food was pretty good. We selected several options for our guests to choose from including a burger and fries, chicken salad and half a sandwich/tossed salad option. The food was mediocre. The service was pretty good, although the attitude wasn't great (acted as though they were inconvenienced at having to get basic things requested). The bridal shower still went over well, however, setting the whole thing up was a bit of a challenge as their staff here have a hard time returning phone calls and emails. Also, they don't provide any type of contract or outline of cost which made it very confusing. When I got the bill there were several extra fees that I didn't see in any of the materials sent to me (menus, pricing, etc). When I asked I was told "oh yeah we discussed those fees at your first meeting." This I didn't recall (perhaps we had), but I think I would have remembered an extra 200 dollar fee. I told them it would have been better to have all of that in writing and outlined for me (not a huge request and most banquets do that as a standard practice). The response I got was "oh...well you saved money already because we didn't charge you for soda which wasn't included in your package...and blah blah blah." As if they were doing me some huge favor. Honestly, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I don't think I would book any other events here. They aren't well organized and don't provide you with a clear outline of costs. Save yourself the headache and book elsewhere. read more

We had been there several times before and it was ok. Nothing to brag about but was satisfactory. We decided for 35th wedding anniversary and our good friends birthday to dine there. We made reservations and nobody there who took the reservations informed us that a memorial service had booked the restaurant which is totally understandable. Why however weren't we informed of this when the reservations had been made. Since our friends had to travel about 50 miles one way to get there we stayed. The only seating was in the bar area. Uggh! If I had wanted to watch the game I would have stayed home. Ok fine. My food came and it was cold. I had to refuse it and order something else. I really didn't want to ruin it for everyone else. After we finished when we were leaving we found out that our friends weren't too happy either. Will we go back? We may but not without finding out if they know what they are doing. I'm sorry but this time was not up to the standards that we had experienced before. It was terrible. The server was very polite and good but the atmosphere in a bar was really not what we had planned. We hope other people have a better experience.. read more
