I needed a full-size mattress and a custom box spring for my 1930's antique bed frame and, after a long, long search, I finally settled on Orange Mattress. From the first phone call with Mindy to the last, she was a delight to deal with. She answered all my questions and patiently took down all of the custom configurations I explored before settling on a custom box spring with slightly narrower dimensions and corner cutouts to properly fit my bed frame. Talking to Mindy certainly felt like working with a traditional mom and pop shop from yesteryear - all of the wonderful customer service without any of the pressuring sales tactics you encounter today with almost every other mattress retailer out there. It took a little over a month for the mattress and box spring to ship and arrive cross-country to Seattle (note: it does ship freight (i.e. curbside delivery) for long-distance shipping, not white glove as I was expecting - but if you tip the driver, they might be able to help you bring it up to your porch or inside as they did for me - beware, though, the mattress is really heavy). Once I got everything setup ....wow! The box spring fit like a glove and the horsehair mattress is simply beautiful and oh so comfortable. I highly prize old-world craftsmanship and natural materials and Orange Mattress certainly delivered with their custom bedding. Ordered 2 all-cotton mattresses for my young children. When they arrived, they were giving off a horrible gasoline type smell. I figured it was probably from bleaching the fabric since these mattresses were supposed to be all natural. A month later the children's rooms still stink of chemicals. I open their windows and air it out every day. The mattress stinks so badly of some kind of chemicals it leaves this smell in my daughter's hair in the morning. I called customer service and reached Mindy who insisted there are no chemicals (other than Borate--which turns out to be a chemical flame retardant and pesticide). She basically said no one has ever complained before and I can't exchange them. I'm out $1700 as I will have to replace these. What an awful company. read more

What a great find I came across online.  Living on Staten Island, I searched and searched but could not find what I needed to fit the space of my imported platform bed.  After discussing several options with Mindy, I decided to take a ride down to NJ, to witness myself what was available.  I was delighted to find, not only could I get the size I need, but also the various levels of quality that was available.  These options were just enough for me to make an informed decision.  With Mindy's guidance, I made my choice which was the best decision I ever made.  Have not slept this good in years.  Many Thanks to Mindy, and Orange Mattress for all your help. read more

A great company. I've purchased three beds (2 custom sizes) and just bought a topper for an older queen bed. The beds I bought from Orange Mattress have lasted for 18+ years and are just as perfect as the day they arrived. Because of tight turns inside the house, the company made the box springs in two parts so we could get them into the bedrooms. So thoughtful!! Mindy is super helpful and the company delivers on time and without any problems. If you can't get to the showroom personally to try out the different beds (as I can't) you can rely on what Mindy tells you 100%. For the custom sized beds, I also asked Orange Mattress to make fitted sheets and mattress pads to fit exactly. Well done as with the beds. Our experience at Orange Mattress started out well, and ended off pretty badly. Here's the good part: we got a good mattress at a very decent price - half was knocked off because they needed to get rid of the inventory. The mattress was touted as firm but ended up seriously extra firm - I feel like I'm sleeping on my yoga mat - but my back really feels better. Here's the bad part. We had sat down with the gentleman whose parents/grandparents had founded the business and hammered out all the details. We gave him our moving address and he gave us a delivery date. A few weeks later, we had to change both the delivery location and the date of delivery. We came in, in person, and the same gentleman wrote down our details in his notebook (not the invoice), but we thought nothing of it. Two days before our scheduled delivery, I stopped into the store to check on our delivery... So I spoke to the woman there - the gentleman was not there. She had no idea what I was talking about when I asked her to check on our delivery. "I have nothing scheduled for that day," she said, "and I am in charge of it all, so I would know." I asked her to please check, as we had already trashed our old bed. When she found the invoice, she was like, "Oh." No apology. Then I asked her to check on the delivery address just in case, and it was going to go to the old address that we had changed with the gentleman weeks ago - it had not been changed. Still no apology from this woman. I was so angry - this could have been very bad for us. Lastly, it was great for the delivery people to set up the bed, really. The only problem is that they never locked the wheels and it goes careening all over the room, and when it's not flying around, we're stubbing our toes on the wheels. Blah. read more

I wanted to make you aware of my experience. I visited orange mattress and met with Mindy. I chose a mattress which felt good but wanted it custom made with latex and a very soft pillow top. She assured me it would feel the same and I ordered a full and a queen. They arrived and the queen was58 1/2 inches by 78 inches instead of the 60 by 80. It was also rock hard and not soft and supportive as advertised. The full was also smaller than usual. There were no labels sewn on to either mattress which is a law in both New Jersey and New York. I was stuck and she refused to honor her commitment. Finally after many calls she agreed but what was delivered were foam mattresses which in her store sell for over $1200 less then she charged me and refused to give me a refund. The delivered mattress was also smaller and had no labels sewn on. Her solution was to send me labels. read more

The delivery was within the time frame and the delivery men and setup was excellent and friendly. We really appreciated Mindy's awesome customer service on this custom bed. We had a previous custom order from a different company that did not go well and was way off by several inches in both directions. We have a tiny space with a slanted wall, but really wanted a bed bigger than a queen but smaller than a king. She worked with me to answer all of my questions and even placing last minute order upgrades, as we continued to talk about our preferences. The bed was delivered on time and the size is perfect for the room. We added the 2 inch custom cut organic topper and it fits perfectly on top of our new Tallay latex mattress. My very tall husband said he's never had a more comfortable night as a side sleeper and woke up refreshed and not sore for the first time in years! The foundation is pretty with gray velvety cloth on the sides and sturdy as well. Mindy is experienced, patient, honest and friendly. If I could put her mattresses in all of our bedrooms, I would! I plan to save up to update my kids room over time as they grow taller. A very nice experience! And the custom cut 300 count sheets are wonderful! Expensive due to the custom size, but fit like a glove, tautened and smooth, as well as soft -perfect for any season. Will definitely order a second set soon! Thank you Mindy! read more
