Dela Cruz is NOT an orthodontist DO NOT trust him with any treatment that will move/shift the position, shape, and biting of your teeth. He is the type of dentist that only cares about squeezing the last penny by over-treating you rather than caring for the long term health of your teeth. In fact, any dentist claim they specialized in "cosmetic dentistry" i would preemptively raise a HUGE RED FLAG. I consulted a lawyer after feeling malpracticed and the lawyer mentioned he had came across the name ORA Dental a few times as multiple clients have consulted DENTAL MALPRACTICE against this practice. Read the reviews of other locations of ORA Dental and their Invisalign reviews you will know what i am talking about. He might deny this review by saying i am not his patient but think about it, why would an irrelevant person bother leaving a comment? Dela Cruz claimed i have over-biting and if i do not correct it with orthodontic treatment it will cause more hurting to my gum. He then prescribed Invisalign treatment to me WITHOUT X-RAYs examination or trying to obtain my previous x-rays to evaluate my gum and bone condition. During the treatment he did not check in and follow up with me regularly to see my tissue and teeth response and eventually caused me to have bone loss, gum recession, TMJ, crowding which i did not have before, and even worse over-biting. None of the risks were MENTIONED or EXPLAINED to me prior to treatment when I ASKED what could be the risk. Most of the maintenance and procedure were done by his assistant while he was playing phone in his office (i saw that multiple times). His assistant also added attachments to the wrong side of my teeth which i found out later on. After the treatment falling beyond expected timeline and result (It should've been less than half year when it lasts over 1.5 years) he even mentioned grinding/shaving my front teeth to make my teeth even. That raised a huge red flag and i lost trust in him and seek advice from multiple orthodontist, who all mentioned the alignment of my teeth was fine or even considered exceptional. If the over-biting has never caused any discomfort or wearing down of my teeth it is not considered necessary for treatment. I was very disappointed with Dela Cruz and asked for refund and he basically just slapped the financial agreement in my face to reject me. His treatment resulted crowding when i did not have any alignment probelm prior to treatment (how ironic), WORSE over-biting and also irriversable gum recession and BONE LOSS. The pre-treatment alignment was broken because of him over-treating and moving my teeth. This ends up making me grinds harder than ever and i lost a fracture of a tooth and had sever weardown because of his treatment. Furthermore, professional orthodontist mentioned i have a thin bio-tissue so i was never a good candidate for any Invisalign treatment. So many cosmetic dentist nowadays try to make money without professional understanding of alignment, biting, and bone structure of orthodontic treatment. You need a REAL orthodontist to evaluate you. Finally, always remember you have right to use law to protect your right as a patient if a dentist mistreated you and refuse to refund you. read more

Worst experience I've ever had. Ora Dental Gold Coast with Dr. Kralj. I had a veneer put on after a Volleyball injury in the early 2000s and came back to have my veneer replaced and another put on to match. The color is off, the fit is uneven and I attempted to get in touch with him for over two months to figure out a solution. I offered to come back in the office. And not calling back to reply to customers' voice messages etc. The reception desk is not helpful and finding all excuses. They just ignored the customers' requests totally. They pushed the customers to pay off everything quickly but trying to delay the process for the insurance company reimbursement. Not professional and not trust worthy. I've been seeing hygienist Vaish and Dr De La Cruz since ~2015 or so. I've had 10s of cleanings, some permanent retainer work, and a few fillings. Their practice is great all around, but Vaish in particular is sooo gentle and just an amazing human being. She really cares about her patients and I drive in from the far burbs to see her. I will follow her anywhere she goes. My sister got two veneers done by Dr De La Cruz and they still look really great ~3 years later. read more

DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT -- Did I say DO NOT enough -- go to this practice. I went first for Invisalign, and then for veneers. Every single time I had the temporary, the interim, or the permanent veneers put in I had a major problem. The veneers were a disaster. Completely not matched in size or shape. I went back for Dr. Dela Cruz to fix his mistakes more times than one should have to do for a dentist who charges too much and knows too little. Final blow: I got permanent wire retainer on my bottom teeth to keep the Invisalign in place and one of the wires popped on a Friday night; contact Dr. Dela Cruz, right? No. No answer all weekend. I had to tear out the metal retainer by myself. And then Dr. Dela Cruz had the nerve to tell me that he didn't get my text messages because the office had changed locations. Which has absolutely nothing to do with his personal cell phone, as he tried to make me believer. But after he tried to cover his tracks on that one, he texted that his staff woul reach out to get me in. Three days later I get an email from the staff saying they have called me several times on my cell phone call but cant reach me. Funny how ORA Dental West Loop is the only place that cannot get through to me on my cell phone and leaves no record of ever having called me on said cell phone. And did Dr. Dela Cruz ever call to see how I was doing? Of course not. Why? Does not care what patients have to endure after he has screwed up. So what now? His office is immaculate, the provide toothbrushes if you're like me and brush before your cleaning but forget/don't have time before walking in. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable. The way my experience ended at ORA Dental Studio is partially my fault - thus the three star rating. I should have done my homework, instead of allowing myself to be blinded by a fabulous Groupon deal and the thought of sparkling white teeth at the hand of a professional. Alas, I did get a great deal and semi-whiter teeth. But the process, and pain, to get there was, in my opinion, not worth it. When I heard whitening, I thought I'd sit in the chair, some goop would be applied to my teeth and I'd be done shortly after. Alas, this is where my lack of preparation took me off guard. Zoom whitening requires a large plastic contraption hold your mouth open for nearly an hour, where you have to sit through three 15 minute sessions of not moving a muscle, while a hot, uncomforable light shines directly onto your teeth. The hygenist, who mind you was very friendly and efficient, kept warning me that afterwards I would feel some sensitivity, but after taking a few Motrin, I would be fine. Well, not only did sensitivity = some significant pain, but it was bad enough to awaken me in the middle of the night with a throbbing ache in my lower front gums. I'm sure everyone has different levels of pain afterwards, so maybe mine was simply on the stronger end of the spectrum. Thank God I woke up this morning feeling better, and sure, my teeth are a bit whiter, but in the end, it just wasn't worth it for me. read more

This is a follow up review now that I have completed my invisalign treatment. was looking around Chicago for invisalign. Most places were good, but super pushy and pricey. Then I found Ora Dental. The west loop location was closer to my work and home so I went in to check them out. I knew the minute I walked in, that I finally found my preferred dentist/orthodontist! All the staff here are very sweet and friendly. The most I have ever waited in the lobby was maybe 5 minutes AT MOST. I am always greeted with genuine smiles. As for the dentist, he is fantastic. A very very nice man and also knows what he is talking about/doing. I came in for invisalign back in August (I believe). Was finished and received my retainers today. The quickest/most efficient place to go if you are really looking to get that perfect smile. I would definitely recommend this office. I am so happy with the results and also the price I paid. After talking about the need to switch dentists with my cousin who is a dentist that lives in the area but works in Indiana I mentioned Ora and she gave positive remarks. The staff is very friendly and easy to talk to. They have alot of hi tech gadgetry that I havent seen before, and I am a very curious person and he had no problem answering my questions and explaining what he was doing as we were going along. The office I must say is very nice and looks like a spa. You even get heated lemon scented towelettes when you're done. My only dislikes were the parking situation, didnt help that there was construction going on right in front at the moment, so perhaps thats only temporary. There was plenty of parking one block south on Washington though, it is maxed at 2 hour metering which made me nervous, but I made it back both times with time to spare. The other thing is I currently had to pay upfront, and was going to get reimbursed by my insurance company, BUT, I guess that problem will be resolved by January or so because they are still filing with the insurance company because it is a new office. read more

I had a coupon for the Zoom whitening, reduced from $599 to $199. The result was moderate. Zoom is onl slightly more effective than using the Crest Whitestrips. The procedure was relatively pain free. Basically they put a clamp on your teeth and shine a bright light on them for 45 minutes. Its not pleasant, but certainly doesn't deserve the reactionary comments already posted. What did you expect- you had your teeth whitened with ultraviolet rays! My teeth were slightly sensitive for a few days, but they warned me of this potential side effect. It was not unbearable nor was it unexpected. If you already take care of your oral hygiene the process is somewhat superfluous. Whitestrips and regular cleaning should be sufficient. Do not expect a model or weather anchor smile. The improvement exists, but it is slight and not entirely worth $599. read more

I have been to a lot of bad dentists, so much so that when I found Dr. John Irving in Naperville, I never wanted to leave. I did move to Chicago, and a trip to Naperville for a dentist appointment seemed a bit overkill, so I had to cut my losses. I decided to call around and try out a few dentists in the Chicago area when I stumbled upon ORA. Setting up an appointment was very easy and I got a check-up and a consultation set up for invisalign within a week or two. Walking into their lobby, their practice feels cozy and the staff are very welcoming. Dentists are my biggest fear and I cringe at the thought have hearing a drill in my mouth, but Vaj was very gentle and held a great conversation to make me feel at ease. Dr. De La Cruz was also very friendly and informative. Once I was done, the receptionist explained the costs to me and was happy to answer my questions. I went back later to get fillings replaced that I received when I was around 13. My experience with these fillings at 13 was not pleasant and I only went in to get them replaced because I knew the fillings were cracked. Needless to say, as tight as I held my hands, the whole procedure was relatively painless and I was able to full use my mouth the night of. I can't say I have been happier at a dentist. read more

His staff is friendly and made me feel more like I was walking into a beautiful spa rather a dreaded dentist appt. Dr Kralj fixed my teeth with no discomfort at all, none! Ora provides the best dental care I've ever received. Dr. dela Cruz is exceptionally good at explaining and providing treatment, and everyone from the hygienists to front desk staff is polite, intelligent, and customer-focused. Also, it may be a little silly...but I care a lot about the environment of a dentist's office, having had some pretty scary experiences as a child (all but one baby teeth pulled!). Ora West Loop's office environment is the perfect mix of professional and casual, and the lofty ceilings really help put me at ease when I'm in the chair. The doctor is awesome !! He is attentive, informative and has never steered me wrong while taking care of my teeth and actually saved me money once :) The hygienists are also very nice, friendly and explain things in detail. The doctor and hygienists are great and they get 5 stars. What I have a problem with is that woman they have at the front, she was just down right rude to me today. She should get 1/2 a star !! When I finished with my procedure and went to check out, she informed me that I owed $280.00. I was astounded and blind sided with this. I asked what it was for and she said there was a balance of $95.10 which was my co-pays and such from prior treatment and the other $184.90 was the co-pays from today's treatment. She then went on to say that this was explained to me when they first did my treatment plan. First off, my treatment plan was explained to me back in August /September where I was told that my insurance company basically covers everything, they would have to just wait and see once the bills are submitted. Ok, I was fine with that. My treatment plan changed when it was discovered that I did not need a root canal and thus my dental benefits changed. After this change in treatment plan, no one went over a new treatment plan to discuss what the charges were and what my out of pockets costs would be. Today, I had a wisdom tooth pulled and two cavities filled. The one cavity is porcelain and thus I have to get a filling made at the lab and then come back to remove the temporary and place in the permanent filing. Well I told the lady at the front that I can pay the $95.10 but I don't have the other $184.90 today. She just looked at me sideways like I was crazy for not having the money. She then is like well we cant get your casting send to the lab until this is paid. I told her well I can probably get it paid in a couple of weeks, the whole time she is just rolling her eyes, very unprofessional. Then she said well you better call us next week to let us know when you will be paying it so it does not get sent to collections, huh, what ?? collections for a 2 week old bill. I just thought that was absolutely absurd that she would say that and I left there feeling upset and horrible, like I am a bad person for not having $184 to just pay right then and there. The dentist is great so I will go back again but I definitely will be more proactive with my billing and find out what costs will be associated with any future procedures that I may need or want besides just a simple cleaning. read more

I HATE ORA DENTAL!!! These people are a pain in Lisa's butt. You will be impressed upon first visit, but when it comes to long term service...forget it. Their service immediately goes downhill from there. Something was wrong with my retainers, and 2 months ago I asked them to send it back to get it fixed. On multiple occasions I called to check up on my retainers and at one moment they acted like they had no idea what was going on and asked me to come in for a dental impression. And while I was driving in, they happened to call me and say the retainers are on the way and should be in within a week. I haven't heard from them and its been over 2 weeks. I would not recommend them to anyone. I don't trust them and have lied to me. read more

I decided to go to ORA dental because of convenience since my old dentist was in the suburbs. I've never had a cavity in my life. After getting my teeth cleaned at ORA, they informed me that I had 7 cavities. Thinking that it sounded a little extreme, considering the fact that I had never had one before, I decided to get a second opinion. In getting a second opinion my suspicions were confirmed, ORA was completely wrong. I did not have even one cavity. The thought that had I not gotten a second opinion that I would have had seven teeth drilled on is absolutely frightening. BEWARE!!! read more

My regular dentist recommended that I come to this ORA Dental Studio (West Loop) because I have had numerous problems with the ORA Dental Studio (South Loop) where I initially went to have an implant for a missing tooth. I am so glad that they told me about this place. My issues with the south loop location was that they have a serious problem with time management and each time I had an appointment, my wait in the waiting room was on average 45 minutes to an hour and there were a few occasions when I didn't even get to see the dentist. I did not have that problem at all with the West Loop location. They really seem to value your time. I never had to wait more than a few minutes and when I would arrive early, they would still get me in the chair and taken care of promptly if it was possible. The office is clean and neat and the equipment is shiny and new. The building is like a loft and it is a nice and relaxing atmosphere with the music they play. It is a nice and warm cozy place, which is key if you have a long and complicated procedure to sit through because it makes the time go by faster and before you know it, its over. I had an implant over a year ago at the South Loop location and then I ran into more and more issues with the waiting room game so I kind of gave up and decided on not getting the crown to complete the implant procedure because I was so frustrated with how long they keep everyone waiting. Luckily for me my dentist told me that there were several ORA Dental Studios and that I should try another especially since I had already paid for the implant. It was a great idea since I had been to other oral surgeons and they were not able to help me because they didn't have the same tools and equipment that was used for my implant, but this wasn't an issue at the West Loop location and they knew exactly what I needed. I met with Dr. Delacruz the first day and he was friendly and nice and answered all of my questions and he had a plan to get a new abutment (the original one had fallen out months ago and I wasn't able to get in to the South Loop location to get another one and other dentists didn't have the same equipment) and my new crown. He was very knowledgeable about the procedure and knew exactly what to do. I got an estimate of what it would cost that first visit and I ended up paying exactly what was on the estimate. Each visit they always let me know what the next step was and I never left feeling confused or upset. I have my new abutment and Dr. Delacruz made sure that it was adjusted properly and fit the way it should. Also after the successful impression for my new crown and a few more adjustments, my smile is once again complete. No more eating and getting sharp edges of food jabbed in my gums! It was a great experience from beginning to end and I would definitely recommend the West Loop ORA Dental Studio to anyone. read more

Dr. Dela Cruz was fantastic! I had to come in for emergent wisdom tooth extraction and the staff was great, worked with my hours and said he could possibly do it in office on the same day. He did it under general anesthesia and it took about five minutes for the procedure! The anesthesia was the perfect amount. Usually when I go under general, the anesthesia is a bit heavy and it is difficult for me to swallow for hours. I had no issues like that this time and had almost no postoperative pain! I had an awesome experience. Everyone is super friendly and it all starts with the front desk woman. The building is cool with the exposed beams, air ducts and brick accent walls. It was clean and well lit. Large glass window in the lobby. The staff was quick and attentive. The dentist was quick, present and knew what he was talking about. I never once felt pressured, rushed or dishonesty. I felt like I could trust this dentist right away. If you are coming in for a consultation, second opinion or Invisalign (my experience/reason for coming in) I definitely recommend this dental office! So glad I came in. I have been a patient of Ora Dental Studio in the West Loop for over three years now. Clinically, Dr. De La Cruz and Vaj are awesome face-to-face and are very charismatic people. You can't help but to like them. This is why I fought to try to make this facility work for my family. Unfortunately this does not carry over to create a total experience. There is no follow-through. The administrative staff and the billing are horrible. The receptionist, Kathy, is rude, has horrible customer service skills and takes no responsibility for any mistakes she makes. Since day one of being a patient I have had trouble with the billing of my services. I have federal dental benefits which are some the best benefits out there and are accepted by this facility. Since I am covered by two plans, Kathy always just sent my bills to both plans instead of taking the time to figure out which plan was the correct one to submit for payment. You can imagine the chaos this created throughout my time here. In February of this year my husband went to his appointment and was refused treatment and was told that Ora Dental is out of network with no warning. I followed up with Kathy who said that in February of 2014 (a whole year prior), Ora was no longer in network with our plan because of "paperwork issues". My husband and I are both seen every six months, so we had been to the dentist at least twice after Ora was apparently out-of-network and we were never told by Kathy. After a call to Kathy she just said Ora was out-of-network and said she would call the insurance company to see why- after my husband was refused treatment, took off of work, and paid a babysitter to attend this appointment. Kathy just kept telling me every time I called "she was still waiting for the insurance to call back". I called the insurance company myself who said that there was an issue with credentialing, meaning the dentist hadn't completed the appropriate licensure paperwork or someone has submitted complaints. Kathy assured me this was going to be taken care of and that Ora was "in-network" with our insurance. Fast forward to May of this year. I had any appointment scheduled and was under the impression that everything was worked out with the insurance issue. At my last 6 month check-up, Dr. De la Cruz had a family emergency (understandable) and I never saw the dentist but just received a cleaning. I was assured this was fine. This meant that I had not seen a dentist in over a year. A few days before my appointment I received a call from Kathy saying that, "Ora is out of network and you must find an in-network dentist". I had not seen a dentist in a year and I was told at the last minute to find a new dentist?! I was furious and requested to speak to Dr. De la Cruz. He never called, instead I received a call from the office manager for several locations, Dan. Dan indicated that there have been complaints about Kathy's "attitude" by other patients. Dan apologized and scheduled my appointment and said I wouldn't be charged my co-pay for the inconvenience. This was in May. All this time the insurance issues are "being worked out". So, I went to my appointment and found out I have a hole in a filling which has caused me pain. They wouldn't schedule an appointment until they get confirmation that the dental insurance is in-network. This is not their policy. I get a call from Vaj, the hygienist, who states she spoke to the insurance company and they are in-network and the services I need are approved. She says that because of the issues, she will submit a plan to the insurance in writing and wait to receive it back before scheduling my appointment. That was June 11...two months ago. I called one month ago for an update and left a message for Dan and did not receive a return call. I called Kathy today to check the status. She said, "we are still waiting to hear back from the insurance" and "it's not my fault what because I don't know what Vaj discussed with you". After two months...you would think they would follow-up with the insurance or at least call me with an update. I requested my dental records and will not be returning to Ora Dental as they clearly don't value my business nor do they respect their patients enough to return calls/follow-up with them. If you are looking for long-term, patient-centered, and clinically ethical dental treatment, I would not choose this facility. I work in healthcare and I would report this type of treatment to the State of Illinois if any of the providers I work with treated patients like this. read more

I have had a ton of dental work in the past due to soft enamel and such. It was my fault that I didn't get my regular check up when I first moved to Chicago. I waited until one of my teeth/filling broke off while flossing before doing something about it. I was nervous since it had been a year and a half since I had seen anyone. Dr. Delacruz really calmed my nerves and did my first root canal this past week. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, and I LOVE that it doesn't feel like a dentist office when I'm there. All in all, I am completely impressed. 2 days out from the procedure, and I haven't had to take anything but tylenol for pain. I am also the type of person who likes to stay ahead of any potential future problems, so any small cavities that are caught early and filled is a much better option to me than waiting until it becomes a bigger problem. I feel like this office has the same mentality, and I'm very grateful for it. Also, for the record, best oral anesthetic injections I've ever had, and I've had too many to keep track of at this point between fillings and surgeries. I bought a groupon last summer for the Zoom teeth whitening. After procrastinating, I finally called for an appointment in October and found out they were booked until March... Which is after the expiration date. The receptionist was very nice and explained that due to so many sold, they would honor the groupon past the expiration date. Great service!! The studio is awesome. It is aesthetically beautiful, with a good mix of old wood floors and modern accessories. It was very clean, and not like a typical dental office. There was good music playing over the speakers in the lobby and treatment rooms. I was greeted immediately, and the receptionist was very nice. She explained what I needed to do and all the paperwork that needed to be completed. the rest of the staff that I met was also very nice, gentle, and explained everything thoroughly before doing anything. I knew exactly what they were doing and what to expect every step of the way. I'm knocking one star down for the parking situation The website states "free parking available." Although technically that is correct, the parking is street parking, which was hard to come by. I guess I misunderstood that as them having a parking lot. As for the other star... I am VERY disappointed in Zoom overall. The process was for the most part painless. I had a few twinges of pain that lasted about a second each, and that was all during the 45min treatment. Prior to leaving, I was given a mirror and got a quick look, although the room was dark so I didn't really notice a difference. I figured it was the lighting and so I didn't mention anything. By the time I got home, I was starting to feel more pain which was not relieved by ibuprofen. But I thought it was worth it since I was supposed to have whiter teeth. I looked in the mirror and, NOTHING. My teeth looked the exact same color that they were before I got Zoomed. Other than 2 bright white stripes in the space between my two front teeth (which have not yet faded 4 days later), my teeth are the same. My teeth were only slightly yellow, but i expected at least a little result. I did read the waiver prior to getting it done that says there are no guaranteed results and all that.. But nothing?? If I had paid full price for this treatment, I would be be livid. I can't say anything bad about the staff or facility, and would definitely return again for something else, which is why they deserve 3 stars. The Zoom, however, deserves nothing. read more

In response to Roderic's statement that they have no record, that is because it is my child, not myself, that had the experiences referenced above. I seriously would not recommend to anyone. The best dentist and staff you can go to! Prompt, minimal waiting. The hygenist is super gentle. Dr. dela Cruz is great, my treatment was fast and I didn't feel a thing. The staff is all very professional and nice. Would highly recommend if you need a new dentist. read more
