This place is just amazing and I will return time and again when I need eyewear or adjustments to my glasses. The quality is superb and the service is second to none! The shop is beautiful- very modern, very tidy, ever so tasteful and the selection is vast! Garrett and Max helped me and were excellent! Clearly Garrett absolutely loves what he does. Buying glasses has, for me, always been torture. I have a very thin face and really struggle finding anything small enough. And I like very plain, very subtle, very classic frames. When I explained this, these two gentlemen culled their collections and provided me with close to a dozen choices. I was flabbergasted! And once I tried them all, I still found I had several choices - any of which I would have been pleased with. They were extremely helpful, kind, polite and really funny as well, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The price is not cheap, but I believe you get what you pay for. When I received a text letting me know my glasses were ready, I arrived fully anticipating several adjustments. Max got the glasses and I put them on- perfection! Not a single adjustment was necessary! And the lenses are incredible. The crispness of my vision is almost beyond description! This is a wonderful eyewear boutique! Go there! Opt Eyewear is FANTASTIC! Truly a lovely shopping experience from beginning to end - if more stores were like this I would rarely ever shop online. Garrett is simply the BEST. He welcomed me to the shop, asked what I was looking for in a pair of sunglasses and started pulling options. All the options were wonderful and ranged in price from moderate to splurge to major splurge. Garrett was fun, honest and extremely knowledgeable. He gave great advice, offered his opinion when asked and then sat back and let me make the decision - pressure-free. I went with a major splurge pair and have never felt better about spending a stupid amount of money - I hope Garrett works on commission! I came in a few weeks later as the glasses had a slight wobble and Garrett fixed them on the spot and gave them the deep clean. If we want neighborhoods to not be filled with chains manned by drones serving the same things then we have to patronize small businesses that carry exceptional products and staffed by passionate and knowledgeable individuals. The nose piece on one of my favorite pair of glasses broke recently. Having just move to Providence I didn't have an eyeglass store where I had a purchasing history. Walking in off the street I was hoping against hope that I could get them fixed. However, as in the past, I just expected to be told they were unfixable and the only solution was a new pair. To my great surprise the manager kindly said no problem and fixed them in a few minutes. There's no question that I will go to Opt the next time I need glasses. I came in today with a friend who was looking to buy a pair of sunglasses. The shop looked lovely as does the merchandise although we didn't spend enough time looking as we chose to leave due to the dismissive and condescending attitude from the female sales clerk. When we were directed to the sale table we became excited as we thought there might be something there in our price range. After perusing the table we noticed there were no prices on the merchandise. I asked the sales clerk how I could find out the prices and she said "well... you ask me and then I tell you." Both my friend and I felt the comment was rude. I noticed that other reviewers have had similar experiences with whom I suspect is the same clerk. I suggest this business retrain this particular sales person on how to work with the public so that future sales are not lost. read more

The arm fell off my glasses as I was driving my dogs to a park (I can't see AT ALL without them) so I took a detour to Opt in Wayland Square, which I have driven by a thousand times. In short, Opt is the bee's knees. They took care of me from start-to-finish, and made the entire process of getting my new glasses a joy. Both Jed and Christine helped me select new frames and the three of us had fun doing it. I must have tried on every pair in the shop, but they were patient and full of recommendations. When it came down to two pair, they were honest and extremely helpful. I now have my most favorite pair of glasses I've ever had, and I've been wearing specs since I was 10. There was a bit of a snafu with the first set of lenses, as my optometrist had under-prescribed and forgot to add a note about my 'abnormal' line of sight, for which the optician must accommodate. I brought my glasses and new prescription back to Opt and to Christine the optician, and within a week I had them back, and they're perfect. In fact, I haven't taken them off since I got them, and for a woman who has been lectured about over-wearing my contacts, that's saying something. I usually wear my glasses instead of contacts to work so I need a good, solid, fashionable pair. The selection at Opt Eyewear was just what I needed. Yes, they are pricey. However, if you think about something that is going to be on your face that people will notice first (because hopefully they look at your eyes most as you talk) then you should make sure they look good. The salespeople are knowledgeable, pleasant and helpful. I do agree that the phone service should be a bit better- I called at the exact 14 day timeframe I was quoted and found out that they were arriving that day by mail. The sales team is very sharp, though, taking down all of your info on Ipads and e-mailing you your receipt. They have a lot of good glass options for decreasing the thickness, refraction, glare, etc. that I hadn't come across in most stores. I would strongly recommend them as a good place to check out for a solid, sexy pair of glasses. read more

Our family spends a lot of time outdoors, especially on our boat in the summer, and i wanted to get my husband an amazing pair of sunglasses for our anniversary. I didn't know much about them, but had been referred to OPT. The staff was informative, fun, and incredibly patient, helping me try on numerous pairs of glasses and flipping through page after page of catalogs. I even went outside with a few pair after narrowing down the selection, and was amazed by the quality of the lenses. The glare was gone, but the sky was still bright, and the clouds looked incredible. In the end, I selected the perfect pair. This is a wonderful optical shop; I would recommend them to anyone I know! They carry styles you can't find at other locations in Providence. It isn't just funky frames either - they have some nice classic styles as well so there is something for everyone. I stopped into Opt on this sunny afternoon with my Prada sunglasses. (Truth be told they were a terrific find from a shopping excursion at TJ's!) I threw them in the bottom of my purse and they emerged missing both of the plastic nose pieces, leaving them unwearable. The gentleman at Opt took a quick look and was happy to help with the simple repair and about five minutes later I was out the door with my like new glasses. OPT have a great selection of styles, many of them designer glasses. On the pricey side, but for an item I'm going to wear for many years, I don't find it overpriced. I love the look of the store, too. There is no fitting service in house, so customers need to bring their own prescription. The service during my first visit in the store was pretty good, I was shown lots of different frames and got lots of attention. I went to see a doctor and came back about a month later to order the frame I had chosen the last time (actually frameless, for which there are numerous colors and lens shapes). The service unfortunately didn't hold up quite so well through the process of ordering my glasses. On my second visit I found a lens shape I liked but wanted to see the shapes that are available but were not on display before ordering. I was told twice that there were many other shapes, but never actually shown the selection. Then the owner was called away to the phone, and after waiting a while I ended up just taking the shape that was on display. Face-to-face service was impeccable during the ordering process and when I came back later to pick up the glasses. However, I had been told it would take x days (I think it was 10) for the order but usually went a lot faster. I gave my phone no. to be called when the frame arrived. After 10 days I checked the receipt, and it actually said 10 _business_ days, which makes it quite a bit longer. After those were over I waited another week before calling the store. I was told the glasses had actually been damaged in production and had to be redone, but they would arrive "today or tomorrow". I finally got a call back yet another day later. The optician apologized about the wait etc., and it was overall not a bad experience, plus I LOVE the glasses - but I feel for an item at this price level I can expect a little more attention to detail and more up-to-date info on the order status, especially given that I had to pay the full price in advance and that the store clearly was informed about the delay. I would probably go back because the glasses are so great, but the service has room to improve. read more

So many pairs to choose from I was forced to buy multiple. If I must wear glasses they must be great. Opt has a great funky, chic selection that you will not find elsewhere. I could not decide between 2 styles so I got both then figured I needed sunglasses also, such fun! They are a wee bit more expensive than the chains but it is worth it to support local small business, get great service and not look like everyone else. I went to Opt to support local business. It started off fine , with me leaving ordering 2 pairs of glasses. When they told me the price , I realized I paid double what I generally pay but again I thought , support local business. Well, let's just say things go down as soon as they get your money. The women who deals with customer service after that is rude, pretentious and condescending. I had a voice mail with her on it telling one thing and she acted as if it was my fault I showed up when she told me to. Finally when my second pair of glasses came in she said sorry about the confusion. Then said if you need anything else please come back. That will happen,...never!! A belated review to thank a lovely, stylish local business who helped me: I've not actually had glasses (yet, anyway, but will seriously look when next I need 'em) from these folks, but many of my friends have sworn by them for years. ANYway, a couple of weeks ago, my good polarized Ray-Ban aviators got twisted in my pocket (UGH!) and one of the lenses popped out...now, they're glass and the things ain't cheap...so I wasn't going to futz with them myself...so thought, "Hey, I'll take them over to that cool optical boutique near Wayland Square and gladly pay them to fix them!" Well, I walked in, and the very gracious and elegant lady behind the desk was welcoming and said "of course I can fix that" - which she proceeded to do in a matter of a couple of minutes, good as new. I reached for my wallet and said "What do I owe you?" and she just waved me off and said "Free of charge, with a warm smile." Made my day, so this is the very LEAST I can do! I must say that everyone at Opt Eyewear was extremely friendly and helpful, especially Garrett the licensed optician. He took the time I needed to be properly fitted. What a genuinely wonderful place this is! I walked in with a broken and crooked pair of glasses, and the wonderful staff here fixed them for me free of charge. I came back with a different pair that needed to be adjusted, and they fixed them beautifully again. No matter how much I insisted, they would not let me even give them a tip.
