The owner was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. My glasses broke and he was able to put my lenses in new frames to 'hold me over' until I could get a new pair. He has always been polite and patient with me and has always made me feel like a valued customer. It is also nice that this is a mom-and-pop shop, which used to be a dime a dozen but is a rare thing these days which is truly a shame. I love this place and will go here as long as it remains open. I stumbled upon this place after calling several optical shops in the local Providence, Cranston, Johnston area asking for price ranges. Really, I didn't want to exceed $200. At the last place I checked with the total exceeded $400. (mind you they were name brand (Coach) eyeglasses, but still nothing really fancy. It's not like they were dipped in gold. It's ridiculous how much eyeglassses go for, especially for a bunch of plastic and glass). And my last eyeglasses at Pearle Vision was over $300, this was with discounts I believe. So, I decided to take my chances and head over to Park Ave after speaking to the friendly man on the phone. He told me that I would be able to have a complete eyeglass package for less than $200, I took his word on it. The shop itself is pretty small, but has more than enough styles to choose from. As soon as I walked in the door the optician was readily available to help, picking out many different styles for me to choose from, from all different recognizable brand names such as Banana Republic, Vera Bradley, BCBG, Bongo, lots more. This was one thing that stood out to me as far as customer service goes. The optician was honest and helpful enough to the degree where I didn't feel pushed into buying into a sale and buying into a style I know I didn't like (or felt on the fence about). I really did like how he arranged the assortment of styles right in front of me to try on, as opposed to going into a shop blindingly picking and choosing from an eyeglass rack. A plus was that he threw in a free lens reflector that helps with glares (I'm not sure how much that normally goes for, but either way pretty sweet deal to me). And another definite plus was that they were ready to pick up within a few hours. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. There were a few more styles I wanted to choose from, I can see myself coming back here again. :) read more

This place has a really great selection of modern (aka currently trendy) frames. The selection was a lot better than a couple of big chain frame stores and a couple of places that do online only ordering. Eyes Unique is a true hidden gem. Here are some reasons why the selection was so shocking for me: Bullet holes in the front window Clearly a very very old sign out front One person seems to be in charge of it all- exams, frames, sales and lenses-making Prices were about 50% less than what I'm used to I recommend handing over a written version of your prescription rather than letting him figure it out from your old pair. After multiple tries with VERY wrong lenses I did this... Despite him repeatedly reassuring me that he could figure it out on his own. He couldn't. Next time I'll be more prepared. read more

From the day I required prescription lens, I had been searching for an optician like Jim Shultz: I had specific requirements, and Jim met them all. Eyes Unique is a no-frills storefront and a one-man-band business of integrity that I have not experienced previously with optical price gougers. The savings are passed on to you. If you're tired of the huge markup on eyewear but not sure about buying serious lenses on line, PLEASE stop here. Jim Shultz, and now his son too, are great. Extremely helpful and professional. I had gone there for a long time and then someone told me he had closed (this was not the case), so I stopped going for a couple of years. Big mistake. I paid high prices for mediocre frames and lenses at LensCrafters, or I paid exorbitant prices for quality frames and lenses. That was all with a really good eye plan of 35%off frames and 20% off lenses. At Eyes Unique I can get a pair of prescription sunglasses and regular glasses for $100 more than one pair of regular glasses at any of the other places I checked. The frames were both high end Gucci. The kicker is, that is without my insurance discount because they don't accept EYemed. Do yourself a favor check this place out. I will add a picture with my 2 new pairs of glasses as soon as I can decide on them. read more

This is the number one eyeglass store in all the land of Rhode Island. Both times I've gotten glasses made here, I needed them as quickly as I could get them, and both times, Jim finished my glasses in two days or less. Both pairs are exceptionally made and cost me no more than $160/pair, which for designer glasses is next to nothing. Cannot recommend enough. read more
