When I confronted him about that, after a team of ER doctors spent hours on me and I had a six day stay in ICU, he said I should have googled the medication. So I did. And I learned that he was to have been conducting quarterly blood tests. He never did a single blood test. That was the most dramatic and life-threatening of his errors or misses in my care, but there are others. Fortunately, I started relying heavily on specialists and they caught most of the things that Dr. Wolfe should have been doing, catching, and acting on. I would not trust him or any Practicioner at One Medical with my health. They seem too focused on attracting new members and securing insurance reimbursements, in my opinion, to have the bandwidth to adequately care for the needs of their existing patients.

He's very knowledgeable, he's not intimidated by my questions (or all the "stuff" going on with me), he's open minded, he was a pain doc for 6 years (so he gets THAT part of my treatment) and overall, he's a very likable guy - I can't recommend him more highly (keeping my fingers crossed that I'm not putting him on a "too soon" pedestal - but I don't think so). The ONLY downsides are the whole "Med One" $200 annual fee for "special" things that really, all docs are offering now-a-days, and the fact that Med One isn't on either of the 2 main electronic medical systems in my area (UCSF and Sutter), so I have to make sure they get all my labs and doc notes from EVERY other doc....which in my personal case, is a big PITA. That being said, I really feel like I have a good doc now who can be the leader of my team and really help coordinate all my issues - before, it was only me, bringing things to docs and trying to figure it out on my own, so YEA!!!!

The office charges a $1,000 annual administrative/concierge fee, yet I have not seen Dr. Landfield in roughly a year. During that time, the office didn't even manage to reschedule my annual physical after it needed to be moved. I eventually started obtaining my prescription elsewhere because dealing with refills through this office had become unnecessarily difficult and unreliable. At this point, all I really wanted from Dr. Landfield was a competent annual physical. I told the office very plainly that I could not justify paying $1,000 every year for what effectively amounts to one physical. I even offered a perfectly reasonable alternative: put me on the calendar for a physical this December, let me pay for the visit through the normal process, and we could go from there. Their response was remarkably straightforward: Dr. Landfield will not see me unless I pay the $1,000 fee. That tells me everything I need to know about the priorities of this practice. What makes the fee particularly difficult to swallow is that my experience with the office has hardly resembled a premium or concierge-level service. I've dealt with administrative mistakes, including something as basic as repeatedly getting my name wrong, problems and delays with prescriptions, and failure to follow through on scheduling. The one thing the office does seem remarkably consistent about is collecting the $1,000 fee. A concierge fee might be defensible if it bought exceptional accessibility, attentive follow-up, flawless administration, or some other meaningful level of service beyond ordinary primary care. That was not my experience. After years as a patient, I was essentially given a choice: pay $1,000 before the doctor will see me for my annual physical, or find another primary care physician. So I'll find another physician. If you are considering this practice, I would strongly recommend asking exactly what the $1,000 annual fee buys you and deciding whether the actual level of service justifies it. In my experience, it absolutely did not.

He was kind and personable, honored my choices about why I was declining a couple of tests he offered - although he was curious why I was declining. I thought he was a fine doctor. He said something that made me laugh. I was happy to get to see him today. His office is decorated nicely, which took some of the edge off being at the doctor's!

A few short months later my dear mom passed away, she was in the care of another doctor at the time but if I could give John Ward no stars I would. Its so odd that just a couple weeks before he had this episode he would continually praise me for the good care, love and dedication I had for my parents. Dr. Robinson has a much different style of treatment and "bedside" manner. I felt heard and believe that he will do what we discussed. Change isn't easy, but after 3 changes in Dr. Murphy's practice, I had to accept that it was time for a new PCP.

Although one might have to wait longer than normal for him - I take a book or usually catch up on reading the news on my mobile whenever I have an appointment - I like to think that this is because he is taking his time with each and every one of his patients, and this is what gets him behind schedule on occasion. After each appointment, I feel comfortable leaving his office having discussed my condition in detail. I like the fact that he records his notes and provides me with a copy after each and every visit. He also makes sure each and every blood test report is sent to me in addition to his office, and he always calls after receipt of each test result. His vast experience has helped him identify the root cause of issues that I feel others would have missed. He also tries to treat the underlying cause of the problem in many different ways, and without immediately prescribing medication as many other newer/younger docs tend to do (in my experience).

I find it ironic that this doctor accepts Medicare for payment. His wealthy clients should be able to cover their own medical bills without having the government subsidize them. Medicare has no way of noting this membership fee in its database. The Medicare operator was quite shocked. Sad to see that far from reaching universal healthcare in this country, the US's medical system has degenerated into a major profit center where cash is King.
