While no one wants to go to urgent care or the er at all, unfortunately, we had to bring our 78 year old mother there yesterday. She wanted to have her finger checked because she pricked it on a plant and it was over a month now and it was giving her a lot of pain and looked infected. She had misplaced her drivers license and they refused to see her despite my sister having a picture of it.
They kept insisting it was just "policy." We left. On a whim, while we were sitting outside, contemplating if we should drive to Marin General, we just looked at her wallet inside and out and found it. Luckily Carbon was still open. We went back in and the same woman at the front who happily turned us away, happily and smugly said that they were able to see my mother tomorrow. I was hot! After finding her license, my mother was so angry that she said, "this is not a big deal! It's only one finger and they can look at it really quickly! Again, here's a 78 year old woman in pain. Laneisha, apparently that's her name, went back to ask the clinician if they would see her. It was 6:39 pm and they closed at 7. No other patients were there.
Thankfully, the nurse practitioner agreed to see my mother. Leslie Katy was nice, professional and down to earth. She prescribed my mother some antibiotics and suggested she soak the finger in some warm water and epsom salts.
I gave her a piece of my mind. I told her that Laniesha was very dismissive and rude to us, and had no regard for a woman almost 80 years old, especially after having found the drivers license, after all! Leslie understood and said she would take it into consideration.
We were out of there in less than fifteen minutes, and the place was still open for another seven minutes. Thankfully that Laniesha woman disappeared, so we didn't have to deal with her on the way out.
I will say the medical assistant was okay, albeit fake, but it didn't matter at this point, since our main concern was getting my mother seen.
Folks, avoid this place if you can. Only come here as a last resort. The irony of it all is my mother sells medical insurance and is semi-retired. She knows the medical business very well, but as a patient, you are really at their mercy when you're in pain. She wanted to wait until Monday, but she kept holding onto her finger, and was trying to keep it together and not be a bother, so that's why we decided to give this place a try. While I am grateful Leslie, the nurse practitioner, agreed to fit her in, despite them being opened for 21 more minutes, we would surely choose another place before coming here again. read more
