Dr. Wolfe, for reasons I'll likely never know, nearly cost me my life. He prescribed medications and failed to warn me about other OTC medication and food interactions. When I confronted him about that, after a team of ER doctors spent hours on me and I had a six day stay in ICU, he said I should have googled the medication. So I did. And I learned that he was to have been conducting quarterly blood tests. He never did a single blood test. That was the most dramatic and life-threatening of his errors or misses in my care, but there are others. Fortunately, I started relying heavily on specialists and they caught most of the things that Dr. Wolfe should have been doing, catching, and acting on. I would not trust him or any Practicioner at One Medical with my health. They seem too focused on attracting new members and securing insurance reimbursements, in my opinion, to have the bandwidth to adequately care for the needs of their existing patients. read more

First let me say - I am and "experienced" patient (17 major surgeries and many other tests and biopsies over the past 20 years), so I'm really tired and VERY skeptical of doctors and the medical profession in general. I recently switched from 15 years with Kaiser, back to Blue Cross, so I had to replace about 10 docs and thank goodness for Dr. Wolfe! I met him last week for the first time and I was SO impressed. He's very knowledgeable, he's not intimidated by my questions (or all the "stuff" going on with me), he's open minded, he was a pain doc for 6 years (so he gets THAT part of my treatment) and overall, he's a very likable guy - I can't recommend him more highly (keeping my fingers crossed that I'm not putting him on a "too soon" pedestal - but I don't think so). The ONLY downsides are the whole "Med One" $200 annual fee for "special" things that really, all docs are offering now-a-days, and the fact that Med One isn't on either of the 2 main electronic medical systems in my area (UCSF and Sutter), so I have to make sure they get all my labs and doc notes from EVERY other doc....which in my personal case, is a big PITA. That being said, I really feel like I have a good doc now who can be the leader of my team and really help coordinate all my issues - before, it was only me, bringing things to docs and trying to figure it out on my own, so YEA!!!! read more

Fact: going to the doctor sucks. But at some point in your life, you'll need to visit a doctor (and you should). Another fact: Dr. Wolfe is as good a GP as you're going to find in Marin. I've been seeing him for the past few years. Dr. Wolfe (or Wayne, as he encourages you to call him) is very easy to talk to, and has a great sense of humor. He truly listens to your medical concerns/questions. And he explains things in a non-intimidating, down-to-earth way. He truly helps take the pain away from going to the doctor's office. Best of all, scheduling a time to see him is never a problem (thanks to One Medical Group's online appointment system). Plus, Dr. Wolfe's office is very prompt at responding to emails/medical inquiries. I hope none of you have to visit a doctor any time soon. Moving to a new General Practitioner is usually a stressful situation, but I was very pleased by the experience I had with Dr. Wolfe at One Medical this morning. As initially off-putting as the idea of paying a subscription fee for membership in a medical practice, I have to admit that the money I've spent at this particular practice has been very well spent. The amount of access I have to the staff and to my doctor at One Medical far surpasses anything I've had at any other practice. In particular, Dr. Wolfe presented himself as a very thoughtful and considerate care provider, who made me feel as though I was the center of my own care, rather than the object of his medical wisdom. If you're searching for a GP in San Francisco, I wholeheartedly encourage you to meet Dr. Wolfe and consider him for the role. read more

I just switched from Kaiser to Aenta and was feeling completely overwhelmed over the new process of finding a doctor. I did a little research and found One Medical, and was also referred by a co-worker who could only rave about them. I had an issue come up and needed to see someone right away, so I signed up for their online reservation system and was able to get an appointment right away. I wanted to see a woman doctor since my issue was of the female nature, but the only next-day open appointments were with guys. So, I sucked it up because a doctor is a doctor, lady or sir. Boy, I have to tell you, Dr. Wolfe made me feel more comfortable than any female doctor ever has. He was super professional while being approachable and easy to talk to. He didn't have a stuffy sterile attitude that I was use to with the "white lab coat" docs, but also wasn't on the other end of the spectrum of being totally alternative and hippy-dippy. I need to point out one of my favorite parts of the appointment: I hate, and I mean I HATE the abdominal exam doctor's do when they push down and poke you and ask "Does this hurt?". Umm, yeah, you're shoving your hands into my stomach! Plus I'm super ticklish. Dr. Wolfe had the most amazing technique to bypass all of that and still complete the exam. Needed a new Doctor to help me with my post-accident issues. He went well above what my previous doctor's had done, in one visit. I left there feeling relieved, and truly thinking that things will get better and I won't constantly be in pain. He's very nice, funny, and a great listener. Dr. Wolfe is literally the best doctor I've ever had. As I was his patient for a few years and saw him regularly, I can speak to his way of practicing with a lot of information. I'm so sad my I lost my insurance and can't see him any longer (although I did end up paying out of pocket a few times to be able to keep seeing him). He is truly caring and will work closely with you to ensure your health and well-being. He's very friendly and easy to talk to. He really goes above and beyond to help his patients. Several times he has helped me in ways that were clearly beyond the necessary and indicative of his caring nature. He is only practicing out of the Larkspur office now. I live an hour away from Larkspur and would continue to see him anyway if I still had my insurance. Re: One Medical in general: also great. People actually simply pick up the phone when you call (and are always friendly and knowledgable), you can always get a same-day appt (although generally not with your usual doctor), your doctor will communicate via email with you which helps you to avoid having to make an appt for every little issue, you have longer appts that actually start on time, I could go on. It is very much worth the yearly membership fee if you need medical care more than a couple times per year. I very highly recommend both Dr.Wolfe and One Medical. I've never encountered a kinder Md. He has an amazing bed side manner: never makes me feel rushed, has real gift at explaining/educating on what's causing my ailment in layman terms without being condescending, & has real empathy. He also is well respected in the SF medical community. I meant to write this review a few months ago, when I had my physical with him, but better late than never. Like all the doctors I've worked with at One Medical (Mariquar Pacquing, Shalia Schwartz), Dr. Wolfe is caring, smart, and in particular, he is very, very thorough. Even if you're young and basically healthy, he doesn't "robo-examine" you and leave it at that. It's nice to have a doctor who cares about maintaining and maximizing your health, and doesn't just start paying attention when you're already really sick. I was very satisfied with my visit to Dr. Wolfe today, at One Medical Group on Clay St. He spent a long time with me, carefully listening to everything I had to say, and providing useful input as well. He is professional, but also funny and a nice guy which helped put me at ease (Going to a doctors office is about 1 notch below rolling naked on an ant hill, on my scale of things I would (dis)like doing). I moved to work with One Medical from another local medical group in Marin. I love their technology and app which allows me to book appointments, refill my prescriptions, and email with my doctor. I saw doctor Wolfe initially and he has been fantastic to work with. I had a long term medical condition that my other docs could not solve, and working with Dr Wolfe we found the right medication to fix the problem. He was open to my suggestions and took the time to get to the root cause of the problem. The annual fee is a bargain to have access to the technology alone. read more

I have known Dr. Wolfe for many years, before he began working with One Medical Group. I miss his ability to empathize with the patient and his skills in listening and taking in the whole picture. He is a very good medical provider and diagnostician. He cares about his patients and has a wonderful bedside manner which is so often not true with so many doctors. He is very knowledgeable about medicine but is also not afraid to let you know if he needs more information or a consultation on your behalf. Avoid Wayne Wolfe like the plague if you value your health (both physical and mental). Read Rich H.'s posts on 9/22 and on 10/25 under OneMedicalGroup Embarcadero for more info. I wish I had read the posting from Rich H on 9/22 and 10/25 regarding Wolfe sooner. I had been seeing Wolfe for about 7 months until this week. Unfortunately I have some long term injuries that cause me chronic severe pain, and I sought treatment for this from Wolfe, as well as treatment for general health issues. Everything was pretty normal until this week. I saw him on Monday and told him I was in fact taking less meds than I was when I 1st started seeing him 7 months ago. He congratulated me on this, and wrote me a new script for my lower dose which I had asked for. Then my new insurance company refused to fill the new scripts for illogical bureaucratic reasons. While on hold with the insurance company I sent Wolfe an email asking for advice on what I should do. When I got off the phone I sent him a longer more detailed email asking for input on the difference between 2 similar drugs I have taken, and asking which would be best to help me gradually reduce the dose. His response was to call me a liar, and accuse me of attempting to swindle more drugs out of him. The exact opposite of what actually happened. Again, I asked him the difference between 2 similar drugs, and asked his advice on which would help me reduce the amount of pain meds I need? His response was outrageous, and accused me of exactly the opposite of what actually occurred. I immediately contacted the office, and asked the name of the doctor that owned the practice. I was told that Dr. Lee "technically owns it" but that Dr. Sally Ward is the doctor in charge, I assume she is similar to a "managing partner." I would never see wolfe ever again, and I would advise anyone who values their health (both physical and emotional) to avoid Wolfe like the plague. I had previously spoken the praises of this practice, and Wayne specifically due to the promptness of getting in for an appointment. However, the convenience of prompt appointments, does not make up for questionable behavior. I was outraged at my situation, but reading the above referenced posts from Rich H., makes me really question Wayne on many different levels? It seems that both situations arose after sending Wolfe email questions, which he completely misread? I've heard some doctors have poor handwriting, but reading an email and coming up with its exactly opposite meaning -- well, that brings up very fundamental questions. read more

It's taken me awhile to write this review for Dr. Wolfe because I will never be able to sufficiently thank him for all that he has done for my health and my life in general actually. I had previously seen an excellent Naturopath through One Medical, April Blake, however, when her appointments could unfortunately no longer be billed through insurance, she referred me to Dr. Wolfe. I was dealing with a chronic health illness and, prior to working with April, had suffered through a series of dismissive and short-sighted doctors through Kaiser who misdiagnosed this illness, so I was understandably reluctant to face another MD. Within the first minutes of our initial appointment, Dr. Wolfe acknowledged and validated both the severity and emotional toll of this health challenge and offered me compassion, empathy and support that I had never experienced in an doctors office through my insurance. I think I cried in my car afterwards because I was shocked to hear that level of compassion from a doctor. For many reasons, I had been reluctant to take the time off necessary to address my health issues, and with all the insight and skill of a counselor, Dr. Wolfe offered me a thoughtful perspective which incorporated my concerns, but allowed me to take this next step. Without his support, I would not have the opportunity to learn how to take care of myself without having to simultaneously navigate and fight the skepticism of many mainstream physicians along the way. I could just focus on healing without having to fight the system to do so and I am eternally grateful to him for this. Dr. Wolfe is a progressive integrative doctor who has been supportive of my leaning towards alternative medicine as he incorporates the whole person perspective in his view of health. As a person in a healing profession, he has also been an inspiring role model to me through the balance he values in his own life and emphasis on limiting stressors while being in a human service profession. He is primarily an excellent open-minded (and funny to boot) physician, but also a gifted mentor and counselor in a way when it comes to life balance. Dr. Wolfe has truly been a hero on my road to recovery and I applaud him for stepping so far away from the negative stereotype of the current health care model to prove that a doctor can do great work with a heart. The rush didn't bother me, as I needed to get back to work, and I'm confident if I'd had more questions, or felt like I needed more time, that Dr. Wolfe would've made it available.
