Just moved to Stamford and was afraid that I wouldn't find good restaurants. I was wrong! {Is a great Japanese restaurant with tons of options as far sushi and fresh hibachi items. We ordered takeout and when got we got home everything was hot and delicious even down to this egg rolls. This will be my go to restaurant for takeout from now on. I'm so happy to have found a restaurant I enjoy with such great values. The dishes were large enough to share in the sushi was fresh as can be. I definitely will be back!! read more

Service was very friendly and speedy. The spicy tuna roll was good. I also had the drunken noodles, they were not very spicy but good.

Great option for lunch on High Ridge Road... Best quality sushi in the area. Prices are very respectable as well.

First timer at Open Rice. Ordered takeout, avocado salad and chow fun noodles with chicken. Pros: Big portions at a very reasonable prices. There was a huge amount of chicken in the chow fun, and a lot of avocado in the salad. Very clean place with pleasant personnel and quick service. Cons: Mediocre flavors. The salad was just lettuce and avocado, no tomato, cucumber, etc., so rather disappointing, and the dressing was just okay. Lots of places in town do this salad better. The chow fun was very bland, under seasoned and under sauced, and the noodles were overcooked. Really stupid name. Bottom line, I may try Open Rice again, with different choices, but so far they're pretty unimpressive, and with other options nearby, I can't say it'll be any time soon. read more

When trips down the Merritt bring us through Stamford, our family often wants to stop here. We all like the food and my son, who judges places by their fried rice, thinks it's one of the best. The menu is a hodgepodge of items: sushi, Japanese, Thai, and other Asian cuisines. There's a small seating area that always seems to be a bit chillier than necessary. The staff is competent and the place has a homey feel. In short, there's a bit of a quirky vibe, but we love the food and keep going back for more. (The TV has always been tuned to football on Sundays which has been another plus for us!) read more

I think the best chinese in Stamford is from Tendga Asian Bistro / Republic Grill on Bedford..and the sushi is good enough too..there are no really good chinese places in Stamford which is disappointing and has been for 20 years..The Hunan Wok used to be my favorite growing up. read more

I come here with my grandmother whenever I visit! We both love the place. The Hamachi (yellowtail) special is a succulent favorite. My fiancé also quite enjoys the salmon skin salad. The lemongrass coconut soup is a win and can come with vegetables if you don't eat shrimp or chicken. Enjoy! read more

Basically avoid at all costs. So many sushi options these days that you can avoid the bad ones like this place. The quality of the sushi has gone downhill, delivery can takes 2hrs+ & that's if it ever turns up. Rude staff that blatantly lie (delivery will turn up soon, drivers got lost, we can't find driver, driver is new he'll be there soon 5 mins, driver had breakdown, driver is not answering...all responses given in a single delivery...which never turned up!). I was happy that this place opened up. The previous Chinese take out joint that occupied the space was great to have since my wife and I live walking distance from it. When Open Rice opened up, we went right away to check it out. The food was pretty good. Ive ordered food about 3-4 times since this place opened now. I've had a great experience each time. The food is ready in a very reasonable amount of time. The entrees are tastey and freshly made. The sushi is very clean tasting. In my opinion, this is a great delivery/takout restaurant! This was our first time trying this restaurant and we were very happy with our food. The Wok Lemongrass Prawn came with enormous prawns--not the usual shrimp you get with Chinese dishes--along with tasty sugar snap peas, green pepper and cauliflower (an unexpected but welcome ingredient). Both the General Tso's and Sesame Chicken had nice sized chunks of chicken. We'll definitely try them again next time we have a hankering for pan-Asian food. read more

I have ordered using their online system and scheduled delivery to take place later that day. Food was delivered on time (this was the only good thing). All hot food was barely warm and looked like it was siting somewhere for quite some time. It was all downhill from here. Food had no taste and was poorly executed. Sushi fish quality was average at best and sushi rice was under-cooked and dry. If your are looking for pan-asian fare in lower Fairfield (this place clams to be one) stick to Ching's Table in New Canaan or Asiana in Greenwich. read more

Decided to try this new Pan Asian place that opened right up the road from me last week. Now they've just opened so they may do better with some experience, but I think I'll stick to driving to New Canaan for Chinese food (Chings Table) and with Kotobuki (Stamford) for sushi. I ordered only Chinese food and I was not impressed. The pork dumplings were a little undercooked and the pasta was mushy on the inside. The chicken and broccoli was also a disappointment as there was a pool of oil in the bottom of the takeout container. They put a lot of food and greens into the dish, but the sauce was so thick and stuck to the chicken that it wasn't too appetizing. The only bright spot was that the pork fried rice wasn't that bad. It had a lot of pork and it tasted like the spare rib meat, which was tasty. I was excited that maybe there would be a good alternative to driving 15min for good Chinese food (Kotobuki is great for Japanese), but I'll have to wait. I hope for them that they learn to make these simple dishes better cause there are plenty of not so good Asian places to eat in Stamford. read more

So....I am loathe to slam any restaurant, especially with this place's offerings. But I had a bad meal, plain and simple, and the service I received only adds to my displeasure. My coworker and I dropped by and ordered lunch. The woman at the counter was brusque to the point of being unpleasant. The restaurant was empty, and the phone was not ringing, so I don't think that they were particularly busy, as two of the staff were also dining at the sushi bar. I ordered Egg Drop Chicken Corn soup (don't judge, I wanted comfort food) and Pad Thai. My friend ordered Wonton soup and three rolls from the sushi bar. He made a polite point to ask the woman for extra wasabi. This seemed to irritate the f@%k out of her, as she almost snarled at him. Ok then; we sat, and our food came out in due course. We took it back to work....and were not happy. My soup had approximately four small pieces of shredded chicken and a scant tablespoon of corn, and very little flavor. The Pad Thai was oily, and had no flavor resembling any other dish of Pad Thai I have ever consumed. I am accustomed to finding hints of tamarind paste, fish sauce, chili sauce, OR palm sugar in Pad Thai; this had none. It was simply rice noodles prepared similarly to mediocre Lo Mein. I can get Lo Mein easily elsewhere and for less of an investment, speaking of the price. My friends rolls were meh, but what upset him more was the price, the attitude, and the service, He did NOT get soy sauce or a spoon for his soup. Again, they weren't busy. Food is definitely above average for a Chinese place like this, great fried rice, lo main and everything is fresh. They also don't load on the sauce like most places do, which is a huge plus. But the service is terrible when they're busy, which is pretty often. Also a little pricey, but overall way better than Main-Wah, the place before, and pretty much your only Chinese option in the vicinity. read more

I ordered the Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles knowing that these are pretty basic dishes and hard to screw up. That being said, the food was disappointing. Both dishes were pretty bland. Worst customer service ever. I'm writing this review for my dad who is a long time customer of Open Rice. The woman who answers the phones and takes your order is rude every single time. You are never made to feel welcome or appreciated. When my dad mentioned to the woman that the peanuts in his dish were stale, she responded with "I know they're stale! I told the chef!" And walked into the kitchen. He was never offered an apology or anything else. I told him he should have gotten up and walked out or simply asked her why she would allow her chef to serve stale food? Absolutely unacceptable! It really makes you wonder what the standards are like in the kitchen. I would never go back here. If i could give this place zero stars, I would. read more

Ordered take out Miso soup. Terrible. The broth had no flavor, just plain water and a few pieces of tofu. Are they trying to save on a fish paste? It's under $3. I threw the soup out. Overall very good pan-asian take-out food. Haven't tried the Sushi yet but the soups and noodle dishes a are good and freshly made in my experience as are the dim sum items limited as they are. Over all a good and positive experience every time I've ordered from them. They also deliver. read more

Food taste good. Prices are more expensive for Stamford Asian takeout cuisine. I wasnt too happy that they told me my food would be ready in 15 minutes when I called for takeout. I showed up at their restaurant after 15 minutes only to wait another 15 minutes. I was thirsty from waiting so I ordered a soda. It would have been nice if they threw in a free soda for making me wait. But no! Instead they charged me $1.35 for a soda. I had a $1 bill and a $20 bill in my wallet and they made me break the big bill to pay for it. A can of soda should be $1. EVERYWHERE! read more

Avoid eating in unless you have plenty of time. From the street I thought they re-did the space for an eat- in restaurant. It's straight up take out with some above average tables and a small sushi bar. It took ten minutes for water and 15 min for edamame. The food came out in waves and my sushi roll came well after my husbands entire meal which was thirty minutes after we sat. The food was completely average. No need to return as our current take out down the street does the job- and has a nicer ambiance if you venture to eat in once in a while. So sad not recommend. Great overall experience! My girlfriend and I went for lunch and we were very happy with the service and quality of food. We both ordered the 3 roll lunch special and I also ordered pad thai. Everything was excellent, especially for the low price. Added bonus was our waitresses' knowledge of gluten-free options, since my girlfriend has Celiac Disease and follows a very strict gluten-free diet. They had gluten-free soy sauce available for her sushi and could make noodle dishes for her gluten-free. We're going back there for lunch tomorrow. read more
