Stopped in for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon (1-day prior to the big eclipse so we expected things to be busy). Busy they were. This is a solid place with mainly burgers, chicken and salad on the menu and a full bar. Order at the counter and then find a seat, they call out your name and bring you your food. Food was ok, 2 of my party got burgers. They were on the dry side and one tasted a bit gamey. I got the steak salad, lots of steak but in big blocks that had to be cut up a lot. The steak was overcooked but the greens were really good. they remembered to change out the blue cheese for cheddar (yay!). Our 10-yr old got the kids grilled cheese that didn't look very grilled when they brought it out and she was hesitant to try it but said it was really good and ate the entire thing. Not sure it's worth the rave reviews I read here. It was good, we'd probably stop again. Oh, and to one reviewers comment about the sticky tables - yes, it was very weird. "Home...home on the range..." I'm not sure if Karen D ate at the same restaurant I did, but I found the Open Range Grill to be clean, my burger to be deliciously juicy, and my fries were nicely seasoned and hand cut. On a road trip back home from out west, our hungry family was desperate to find a restaurant to accommodate our varied taste buds and dietary restrictions. Nebraska drives can be long with long stretches between cities. We stopped in based on the Yelp reviews, and we were not disappointed. All meat is brought in daily from nearby farms, and that made for a fresh beef burger cooked to perfection, topped with choice of cheese, and served on a choice of bun. I recall being able to choose from a brioche and pretzel bun among the many options. My kiddos ordered veggie burgers...yes picky eater kids who became obsessed over veggie burgers after their trip to L.A. They gave the burgers two thumbs up! WOW...just WOW! My hubby ordered a charbroiled chicken sandwich made without any marinade, and it was also locally sourced. He said it was one of the more memorable chicken sandwiches he'd had in a really long time. To top it off, they had his favorite Dijon mustard on all the tables (not something you find everywhere). All in all, this was a great family stop in a cute small town. We stopped at the Ogallala KOA RV park for the night-great park! On their map the Open Range Grill was advertised so after checking Yelp reviews we gave it a try. We weren't disappointed. We both had the Reuben and opted for side salads instead of fries. It's a great Reuben sandwich. We stopped at the Open Range Grill on our drive from Denver, CO to Wisconsin, and were so happy that we did! This is a great, family-friendly spot with delicious, fresh food! The venue itself is spacious and clean, with plenty of options for both booth and table seating. Both the other patrons and the staff were friendly and courteous. There is a back area with a pool table, a few video games, and a sweet kids space with simple table toys and a chalk board -- perfect for our road trip wary 1, 5 and 7-year-old. The bathrooms were clean and had a baby changing station, as well as a "rescue basket" in the ladies room, which was a nice touch. They have a nice bar area which offered my husband's favorite: Laguanita's IPA. We started with an order of jalapeño poppers (super fresh with cream cheese and diced fresh jalapeños) and pickle chips. Both were served with a delicious homemade ranch. Our boys were both able to find something they loved (hot dogs and grilled cheese with home fries). My husband and I both ordered salads (House and Steak), and were thrilled with the heaps of quality fresh veggies and homemade dressing options. This is a real authentic local place. From the pickup trucks in the car park, to the absolute absence of any covid restrictions. Not a single person was observing social distancing or wearing any masks. But as I probably would concede that every person in there was conceal and carry, I wouldn't argue with them. The hamburger was absolutely terrific, chicken tenders were generous portion. The staff were friendly and helpful. This was rural America at its finest. Saturday night and not a single person in a collared shirt. Though I did see a couple of ladies in Daisy dukes.Everyone just look like they came because they love the place and they're going to have fun. I can unequivocally state that this is my favorite place to eat in Ogallala. However, I am from California and I have not eaten anywhere else. :) But the food is good, fries are great and I loved the music playing the whole time. We were lucky enough to get in before the rush. Everyone enjoyed their burgers and my husband enjoyed his 24 oz beer. I had the grilled chicken, it was cooked perfectly and came out with piping hot fries. I've also got to give the restaurant props for having feminine supplies available in the ladies room. Twice a year we drive from Colorado to Minnesota and we always try to stop here for lunch on the way there and dinner on the way back. The hamburgers and fries are excellent but I come for the Rocky Mountain Oysters - called Rangey Bull Fries here. They're the best, although my wife prefers the burgers. read more

My family and I went to Open Range Grill for dinner the night of 8/3/24 and we were all HIGHLY disappointed in the service, taste, and the appearance of the food. We ordered in the restaurant and expected the prices to be what we had seen online around ($9-10 per burger) and we were surprised to see that the price for a burger was now $14-15 per burger. Before ordering at the front we let the host know that someone in our party had a sever peanut allergy and asked if they could limit the risk of cross contamination due to a menu item having peanut butter on it. The host seemed to not care and responded by saying " ummm ok" in a rude tone. We ordered 3 burgers and one drink and our total was about $48 plus tip. We ordered carry out and waited about 20 minutes which was totally okay with us. However about 25 minutes after we ordered we noticed that a take out order was sitting at the front for a while, so we went to the front to ask what the name was for that order (it was ours). The host who originally took our order went to look at the name and said ours, and as she went to hand it to us she said "oh I forgot you guys were still here" in a rude tone. Although the restaurant itself was very nice the service was not. The food was also very bland and the fries were unseasoned, cold, and soggy as well. We stopped into Open Range last night around six, local time. The decor was rustic-themed but modern. Very clean and no unpleasant odors. The building seemed pretty new or newly remodeled. We were the third table to order and be seated. You order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. It is nice to be able to pick your table. They had five or six options for buns, which was nice. Can't remember all the options, but there was a brioche, jalapeno, pretzel, maybe a whole wheat? And maybe one other. My husband ordered these special, the Texas burger, which had chipotle mayo, pepper Jack cheese, and Texas toothpicks. He got the regular fries. I got the Lonesome Man, which was smoked cheddar, grilled onions and garlic, and chipotle mayo. I got the sweet potato fries. The food took a little longer than expected. Around half an hour. Probably twenty more people came into the restaurant as we were waiting for our food. Other tables that ordered after us got their appetizers before we got our burgers. The burgers were dry. I couldn't even taste the smoked cheddar in my burger and there was honestly a lot of onion on my burger. The chipotle mayo was the best part of my burger. It had amazing flavor. My husband said his burger on the whole had good flavor. His fries had good flavor and looked good, but were nearly cold. Quite the disappointment for how long we had to wait. It wasn't worth it to ask them for new ones because we didn't want to wait for another batch to be cooked. No one came to check on us or ask how the meal was. Grass fed beef seems to be the local favorite in this party of the country. However, we are from Iowa and believe that cattle need corn also to produce good beef. The grass fed beef was lean and dry. We did notice a difference in taste, but it was a good difference. If it would have been juicier, we would have enjoyed it much more. The total for two burgers, two fries, and two beers was $27. Not horrendous, but not a place I'd go out of my way to visit again. Disappointing because it was on a top 23 Best Restaurants in Nebraska list. read more

There is not one criticism for this great little restaurant. Staff is out of this world friendly and attentive. Service is super quick and the restaurant is beyond clean. Food is really good! I was very skeptical of the fries but they were great. Burgers are fresh made and the smoked cheddar is delicious. Sadly, we were just driving through so we probably won't be back but if we were in the area this would be our go to spot. *allergy note: I believe they use peanut oil for the fries and I know they had a huge jar of peanut butter in the back. We hit this place every year when we roadtrip across country, and it never disappoints. The staff is fantastically friendly, and the food is amazing. They have great burgers, cooked from fresh beef, juicy and delicious. And the burgers... man, there a large variety of fantastic burgers of different types (sauces, toppings, cheeses), or you can build your own! For those not doing burgers, there are hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, and other sandwiches. If you just want a drink and appetizers, their beer selection is spectacular, about a dozen on tap and about three dozen beers in bottles. They've also got wine and cocktails. We were staying overnight and chose this restaurant because of the excellent Yelp reviews. They lied. I don't have complaints about the barn ambiance, it was actually quite nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. The acoustics were horrible, because some gal cackling with glee over at the unseen pool table literally made me jump every time she got amused by something. It's the food that makes me give this place such a bad review, plus the cleanliness. The table was sticky, 'nuff said about that. We both ordered burgers and fries, different burgers but the same result- inedible. They were dry, tasteless hockey pucks with condiments. The fries were greasy and limp, and tasted like the dirty oil that they were obviously fried in. I almost forgot, Hubby ordered the Rocky Mountain Oysters and was disappointed, said they were so chewy that it might as well have been breaded tire rubber. We abandoned our food, refused to take it to go with us, and got out before we could get sick from it. We stopped in Ogallala for the night on our trip home from Colorado. Count on Yelpers to help us find some amazing burgers and fries. The beef is grown on the owners' ranches and as fresh as can be. There is a huge assortment of craft brews, but we opted for hard cider with our burgers. I enjoyed the daily special mushroom and Swiss, and my husband raved about the Blue Northern burger. The fries were fresh cut with skins, and the sweet potato fries were among the best ever. The burgers were juicy and full of flavor, and the fries hot and crisp. We chose this place because of the reviews. Ambiance is family style, with a small bar, and pool table. We ordered the Papas fritters. Potato and jalapeño filling with crispy crust. Pretty good flavor, a bit greasy. We had the Lone Star Burger, and the Range toppings on a veggie burger. The Lone star beef patty was juicy, seasoned well, done to order medium well. Reviews said the fries were crispy, but ours were inconsistent. One basket was much more well done, smaller cuts and somewhat crispy. The other large soggy fries: disappointing. I get it, this is a meat burger place, but if you are going to offer a veggie burger at least make one from scratch like all the meat eater's burgers. This was a frozen patty, with no flavor, and very dry. I would recommend vegetarians with their carnivore pals try a salad instead. Fresh breads for the burgers were good, and servers were friendly, smiling, and attentive. If you are going to Lake McConoughy give it a try. read more

Yep, this place is great! My family got 4 burgers, and the burgers were perfectly cooked, seasoned well, real, thick bacon was used on the burger, a barbecue with a perfect blend of sweet, sour, and heat made for the perfect lunch. Throw on some hand cut fries, classic rock, and a clean restaurant, and you have a five star experience. I only wished I lived nearer to this place to eat here more! read more
