I would definitely come here again. As a Korean, Im always looking for good Korean food that gives me some semblance of nostalgia. But the challenge is finding decent places that don't end up costing $20 + for something that I know my mom would judge me for paying that much money for. This place hits the spot while giving you a taste of KBBQ. You can easily moderate the portions with each rice triangle. I had the short rib, spicy ahi tuna, and spicy pork. Surprisingly the spicy ones had a bit of a kick to them; just enough to remind me of the talks my dad would go into at the dinner table as he reminsced about how poor he was growing up and how Korean cuisine was a byproduct of the Korean people's ingenuity and will to survive. (Yes, every Korean kid with immigrant parents heard those talks again and again.) This place isn't terrible. It's just... maybe I had too much hype in my head about trying it. Beef was good but nothing interesting. The spicy tuna was good but again, nothing surprising there. The unagi was a little tough and too fatty, not sure the cut was right and covered in tons of sauce. The rice seems to be pre-pressed and concave, to fill with other meat ext. but it's also hard and tasted stale. Not crispy hard or anything, but didn't taste like fresh rice that's warm and sticky. So there is a Rice Triangle place/franchise in the City (SF) that is very popular but frankly I'm not a fan. However...if Oori had a location in the City I'd be all over this place. Found it thanks to Yelp as we had some time to kill before going to a party nearby. The short rib rice triangles were absolutely delicious and my better half and I both agreed we'd have to return to this venue if we were ever in the area. What makes a good rice triangle you might ask??? Well like Spam Musubi and Sushi in general for me/us it comes down to a couple things. 1) Is the protein good ? Check mark for this place 2) Is the rice to protein ratio good? This is especially crucial since some places overload you with rice. It's like the perfect combo of rice and beans in a "bomb burrito". Got to try this place at last! My commute home made this an easy decision to stop by and give it a shot. The have plates as well as their Oori Rice Triangles, and the deal for buy 3 triangles, get the ginger and edamame on the side for free. Didn't get to try the deal, I only bought two for the sake of my own limitations haha. The place itself is small, but they have a good amount of seating both inside and outside. Ordering is pretty easy, and the prep time to make the food is decently fast! The folks are.. not as friendly or personable. But they make a mean rice triangle. I ordered the Salmon and Spicy Tuna. Keep in mind y'all, these aren't the same as onigirl. The meats and sauces are added on top of the triangle rice and wrapped together tight with the seaweed. Still damn good. A good proportion of rice, topping and meats for each bite. They also have some more topping you can add further to your dish with shakers in the dining area. Great place for quick to-go onigiri rice balls. Not too many varieties but definitely have raw fish, meat, vegetarian and plain rice versions of the rice ball. They serve the food pretty quick too, which was nice. The proportion of rice to meat/fish/veggie was great, not too much rice to make it taste meh, but not too salty either. On the way to the airport, stopped by Oori Rice Triangles to pick up a quick airport snack. Ordering via phone was very easy. There is also plenty of street parking, which made the pickup very smooth. We ordered triangles of the following: - Grilled Salmon: Yummy! Perfectly grilled. Loved how much salmon was in the triangle. Squeezed a bit of lime and it was perfect. - Spicy Pork: This was excellent. Probably my favorite of all the triangles. Spicy enough to provide a little kick. - Short Rib - Unagi - Tofu Kimchi: I'm not really a fan of this type of tofu (on the harder side), but the kimchi was yummy. Unfortunately, did not finish this. If you order 3 triangles, they give you a box with edamame. We also loved how they included a lime in the box. The lime actually went very well with all of the triangles, even the Spicy Pork. Overall, the flavor was there. I loved the meat to rice ratio (more meat than rice). Personally, what made this place 4/5 instead of 5/5 was the presentation. I LOVE RICE TRIANGLES! This tiny little shop is a great place to grab a snack and go, and these are snacks that you will LOVE. The rice triangles are not small and cost about $2.50-$3.50 depending on the filling you get. I got the salmon and short rib for myself and an eel for my mom. I didn't try the eel but I LOVED the short rib one, The salmon was pretty good, but between the two, the short rib was more flavorful.If you're in the area, this place is definitely worth trying and I'd come back for sure. read more

The order online then pickup process was so easy and quick! I really love how they don't skimp on the fillings! Every onigiri I had was FILLED with meat or seafood. They were also so saucy -- not sure what the light brown, thick sauce they provide is, but it adds a nice sweetness or the short rib! Oori's got the whole package: delicious food, quickly served, at an affordable price. Lunch is great to have at Oori. I always get the salmon plate (regular for just me, large for splitting with one other). The salmon had a tasty miso glaze on it that pairs well with the accompanying lime. A small side of edamame is great to mix in to it. Their musubi is the real deal. There's a few places I've tried in the Bay and none except for Oori come close to my all time favorite (Musubi Cafe Iyasume in Hawaii). The rice is well seasoned, just the riiiight amount of salt, and not over handled. I always get the spicy ahi tuna. If there's no parking on Solano Ave, we've always found street parking along the street where the Bart runs. read more

GOODBYE Onigilly in SF! I have found my new go-to onigiri spot. They offer many delicious flavors and the way their onigiri is constructed is interesting. There's a dip in the rice for the fillings, and they are a lot more generous with the fillings than Onigilly. The stains on my boyfriend & I's clothes can be proof. There was so much filling that two of them exploded while bitten into. A yummy disaster! We tried the short rib, spicy shrimp, unagi, crab & tuna aioli; sooo good, I would recommend them all. The spicy shrimp is probably my top choice. The rice triangles are more like a filling snack so you shouldn't expect a meal. What I love about Oori is that they offer plates! Rice and your choice of meat to really help satisfy your hunger. The plates also come with a side of kimchi & edamame. Parking was fairly easy on a weekday at 12 pm, I don't think it should be too difficult to find a spot. read more

All very flavorful, almost makes me wish for a higher rice ratio. Salmon ok. Short ribs and chicken teriyaki pretty good. Spicy shrimp was my favorite. Apparently there are Groupons. my obsession with cute small things takes me to Oori, though the rice balls are definitely not small. I love onigiri! They're such a fulfilling snack but can also serve as a meal. I especially love getting onigiri as meals because that means I can choose more flavors :) Why this place rocks: - rice to seaweed to protein ratio is fantastic! they don't overkill it with the rice like Onigilly sometimes does. - so many options from fish to grilled meats to marinated tofu! All their protein choices had a lot of flavor. I loved their Grilled Salmon, Crab, and Short Rib (in that order). I didn't care too much for the spicy shrimp but it wasn't bad! - prices are decent! It was great for a quick bite and loved the flexibility of being able to choose how much food I wanted (4 rice triangles was a little much). They do have an option for plates instead of rice triangles which is a great alternative because their meat and rice combo would be killer. I LOVE OORI. Everything about it. I go everytime I am home, because the service is amazing, the food is truly amazing, and soo easy to take to go. You order on iPads and pay right away which makes service quick. Meanwhile, at most its taken 5-10 minutes for my food to get to the table - even from big orders. Whenever I go I get 3-4. I always get at least 1 short rib, 1 spicy ahi tuna, and 1 crab. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!! Love this place. Owner is always there, he's great. read more

They might be gluten-free but if you have all the diseases related to gluten-sensitivity, do not eat here. We specified to the cashier that we were one of those that had it. The food was all good. But after half an hour I was feeling nauseous along with stomach cramps. Maybe it was cross contamination? Maybe these places are just for people on a diet-fad? Who knows? I've always been a fan of onigiri, those perfect portable pockets of sushi. But they're hard to find fresh; some farmers markets have vendors that sell them, but otherwise you're stuck buying them pre-packaged at Berkeley Bowl. Still healthy and delicious, but so much better when the seaweed is crisp and the rice a little warm. Thus, I was really happy to learn about Oori and their tiny shop on Solano Ave. Onigiri is all they do! About 10 types of "rice triangles" with various meat, fish, or veggie fillings for $2-3 a piece (hellooooo, cheap eats!) I had the grilled salmon and unagi. Amazing flavor, but I would have liked a little less rice, more fillings. I don't know what's the traditional proportions, but the grilled eel was so tender and tasty I was greedy for more. You can take your rice triangles to go, or sit and enjoy in their clean and modern mini dining room, with window seating facing Solano. The owners and staff are really nice, and happy to chat with customers coming in to explore this "rice triangle" phenomenon. We came in on a Saturday afternoon around 3 PM & there were a few other customers there who had already placed their orders. We walked up to the counter & placed our order. I decided to just ask for one of each of the rice triangles that had meat in them since I didn't know what I'd like. I ended up liking the unagi (no surprise there) & tuna aoli most out of the eight choices. The others were good too, just not my personal favorites. At around $3-4 each, you'll have to buy maybe three or four to get full off of them & that's for someone my size. If you're a grown man, maybe a whole lot more... All-in-all, food was good, but value wise--not really. The location is pretty easy to find & there's a few parking stalls right out front. The place consists of a few seats inside & a table outside, but it was freezing when we were there so we sat inside. This place is a solid quick eat. It's a simple concept, the menu is pretty small, but you'll definitely leave satisfied. Plus, the food comes out so quickly!! I ordered the tofu, spicy ahi tuna, and the grilled salmon. My friend ordered the spicy pork, short rib, and 2 spicy ahi tunas (he initially ordered 3 but went back and got a 4th). The spicy ahi tuna, short rib, and spicy pork are packed with flavor and a bit on the salty side. The tuna and salmon were less strong flavored. All in all, we both liked the spicy tuna the best! It's a small store with seating for maybe 10 people or so. Some out door seating too. Make an order and then have a seat. They'll bring the food out to you. The menu is simple. They make rice triangles and that's pretty much it. You get three triangles per order. Have been back a few times and tried all the different flavors of these small rice triangles. I think eel is my favorite. Pork is good too. Salmon is delicious. If you want something to drink, check the cooler and see if they have a tea or soda. They also have complimentary tea to drink. This place is a great, I usually get the chicken or pork rice plate. It's a good amount of food for the price! They give you a side of edamame and some pickled ginger. The beef is pretty salty IMO. The rice triangles are pretty small, almost like an appetizer.. so if you're hungry you'll need like 5-6 of them. I ordered the Tuna once thinking it was raw tuna, but it turns out it's actually canned tuna. So unless you want canned tuna, don't make the same mistake I did. There's very limited seating, but it's never packed. I usually get it to go since I live 5 minutes away. Parking isn't an issue as there's usually somewhere to park. When they first opened, they had a yelp check in deal for 10% off after 6pm... wish they didn't get rid of that. My wife is from Hawaii where the spam musubi is a staple of the local diet. So we were thrilled to find Oori and its rice triangles. Located in small store on Solano with plenty of street parking outside. Looked over the menu and ordered: 2 salmon triangles, 2 chicken teri, 2 short rib, 1 spicy pork plate. The restaurant is small with only a few tables. The triangle run about $3 each which is a good price. I've seen spam musubhis elsewhere for $2 and that's not even real meat!! The triangles are nori (seaweed) on the outside, rice and meat on the inside. Everything was fresh and real tasty. Especially loved the short rib, which was marinated beautifully.and very tasty. Oori Rice Triangles is a relatively new contributor to culinary culture of the Solano Ave strip. Their menu is clean and precise serving rice triangle with no MSG, artificial preservatives and high fructose corn syrup. They also have the option to substitute brown rice for white rice. There is a spices stand on the right side consisting of roasted sesame seeds, siracha and soy sauce in case you want to add more flavors and textures to your rice triangle. They also have togo menu! Lastly, they RECYCLE (trash, organics and recycle)! Location (4/5): Since it is on Solano Ave, the small shop is relative exposed to good flow of customers. However, it locates relatively closer to the freeway than the center part of Solano Ave. There are not many street parking spaces, you may have difficulties finding parking. Service (4/5): When I came, I only saw 2 workers - the cashier ran back and forth to help the main cook. They were very efficient! The cashier was friendly :) They have open kitchen, so you can see how fast the cook works while waiting for your order. Food (3.5/5): We ordered a box of 4 triangles (buy 3 to get a side of pickled ginger and edamame): short rib, chicken teriyaki, spicy pork and grilled salmon. Overall, my rice triangles came out relatively colder than I expected. This affected the taste of the meat a lot! I was expecting the triangles to be hot and the flavors would explode in my mouth, but I didn't get that. Is their flavor good? I would say it's between okay and good level. Their Rice Triangles are very delicious!!! They're pretty quick with getting orders out and they look just as pictured on the menu. They really live up to the hype. The salmon quality is perfect. The restaurant, however, is only as good as it gets in Berkeley/Albany area; just a little hole in the wall so you're cramped in a corner with no AC. Will consider coming back again! read more

Hubby found this place when he was on Solano getting my watch battery changed at Oaks so we stopped here after my taiko class a couple of weeks back and I just fell in love with these rice triangles. Since they are made fresh to order, the seaweed is still crisp which really sets it apart. Everything looked so good, it was hard to decide so we went with the unagi, grilled salmon, chicken teriyaki and short rib and for every 3 triangle you also get a little edamame and pickled ginger side. We couldn't help going back up to order a fifth trying to decide between unagi and short rib with the short rib winning...this time!! read more

I'm excited to have this place close by my 'hood. Although I wish they would just call the rice triangles by their real name, onigiri. We Bay Area citizens are a sophisticated bunch and would most likely make the connection (or look it up on our smart phones) with onigiri. There are a variety of rice triangles from which to choose. About 10 to be more specific. I walked in on a recent Saturday afternoon, which may have been their first Saturday in business. I was told they had run out of rice. Wow, a place that sells rice-based food is out of rice. Yep, they're obviously newly opened. The owner was very gracious and offered to take my order and pay for my rice triangles when I returned in the requisite 30 minutes it takes to make more rice. I appreciated the gesture, and good customer service, although I declined. I would rather help a small business in any way I can, so I came back after running errands and purchased the spicy pork and tuna aioli rice triangles. It was just like being back on the Shinkansen in Japan eating my triangles of tasty rice popping with meaty yumminess. The spicy pork was tender, flavorful and hot. The tuna aioli was almost like a tuna salad mixed with mayo, but with fresh tuna. The rice triangles are all made to order and prices range between $2.85 and $3.50 each. They also have a student special M-F 11am-4pm where they offer 2.50 for each rice triangle (excluding crab, unagi, and salmon) Food: BBQ Short Ribs - My absolute favorite rice triangle. The flavors are there and it's not too overwhelming. It's perfect with just a little chili powder. Chicken Teriyaki - Perfectly cooked and marinated. With the perfect amount of avocado spread. Yum Spicy Pork - Definitely don't underestimate the spicy part. But another great rice triangle I would definitely recommend.
