This was our first time here and we were really hoping for a better experience. We don't currently have a go to sushi spot in north Clovis, so we were hoping this could be it! We ordered two rolls, both of which were pretty good! We also had a seaweed salad, which was good. However the service was unbelievably slow. Zero stars if it were possible. Let's just say that I will never go there again, as well as everyone in my family and close friends circle. Here is my experience. We went on a Friday night. It was busy. We had a party of 6, including 5 AYCE and 1 child's meal. We were seated very quickly and a waitress came to take care of us. It was not my first time there. The food is decent, and we never had a bad experience with service. We ordered a couple of appetizers. Their mussels and fried calamari were pretty good. The seaweed salad was very basic but decent. Don't order the pot stickers. After the appetizers, everything went downhill. Stingy AYCE I think Ooi tries to attract sushi lovers with the idea of AYCE sushi, but once you're in, they will do whatever they can to have you order as little as possible. The first few dishes come at a reasonable time, then after that, the time in between rolls or orders just gets longer and longer. We had to wait 20 min before being able to re-order (after we were done eating the first order) and another 35 minutes just to receive the 2nd order! They also completely ignore you when you are an AYCE customer. Non AYCE clients get timely check-ups and good service. Yes, we can say we had loooots of time to observe the rest of the room since they gave us so much wait time. Food etc. The food is decent for the most part. It's an AYCE, so we don't expect the quality and presentation to be as good as the other a la carte restaurants. The rolls are very small and simplified. They all arrived together, on the same plate, with little effort for esthetic. Besides the look and size, they tasted okay. We also ordered some sushis on the side (unagis and salmon). No wasabi nor ginger were given with any order, so we asked for some, and our waitress brought us half a teaspoon of wasabi. We asked for some more (we were 5 AYCE people including 4 adults and 1 teenager!!!) and she came back with ONE of those tiny rectangular plates with a teaspoon of wasabi on one side, and a teaspoon of ginger on the other. I have never seen a sushi restaurant that was so cheap. Pitiful service The service was a nightmare. Our waitress disappeared and practically abandoned us. We would see her from time to time attending to other tables, but she would always pass us without even looking at us! We had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to be able to re-order. We would have to desperately try to catch ANY passing waitress' attention to get anything. No one refilled our drinks until the end of the meal. At the end of the night, when our waitress brought us the check, it was $40.00 over. When I pointed it out, she left and another waitress came back with the right amount. She explained that our waitress was new and did not really know what she was doing. (Like checking on her table?...like ringing the right amount?) I asked to speak to a manager, and the owner came. I told both the owner and waitress what a horrible service we had received during our time there, and the owner JUST LEFT without a word. I thought he was going to come back, but just saw him get back to his business, like nothing had happened. We had been nothing but patient the whole night because we were trying not to have a bad service ruin a good time with family and friends. However, that response coming from the owner himself showed us how disrespectful he is and how much he did not care for our business. In all our years eating out and trying out restaurants, we have tasted good and bad food, experienced good and bad service, but never have we ever been treated like this. read more

The Sunday evening jazz jams are such fun! There are local pros plus many local students who show up to jam, and they are all welcomed. I've had some pretty good food here. Sometimes the service is pretty fast, other times, not so much. Nothing to complain about. Sushi is the main attraction. I like the miso soup and the tempura veggies. Whenever I return to the area, I will always try to hit the two Sunday evening jazz jams (Ooi and Tokyo Garden). read more

We love sushi and our favorite places closed a couple years ago but we are very happy we found this restaurant it is amazing. Great sushi rolls and the fish tastes fresh not fishy. Man oh man... what happened to you guys? I feel as though you guys lost your way. Took my wife in today for the All You Can Eat Sushi and had one of the worst restaurant experiences ever. We arrived at 11:30am which is the exact time they opened so we were one of the first customers in line. First off it took forever for you guys to take our orders even though we clearly were waiting for you to take our choices paper. Next, it took forever to get the food we ordered and to be honest the order didn't have all of the items we requested. Thirdly the sushi was awful. A lot of it was way over fried and some of it was way overpacked with what tasted like cream cheese or mayonnaise. Lastly when it was time for our second round you guys completely ignored us. Three times your waitress working this morning made eye contact with my wife and I and we made it super obvious we were ready and she insisted on completely avoiding us, although I was noticing pretty much everyone else after us got helped and were already on their second and third rounds. She even knew she messed up because when my wife and I got sick and tired of the wait and asked for the check she tried to apologize. She knew. She knew she was completely ignoring us. As we got the check an older lady swooped on it faster than you can say "Arigato". They certainly weren't fast when it came to giving us our food and slow as molasses when it came to even taking our second order but you can bet your butt they swooped in on our credit card pretty fast. Very unprofessional. I feel stupid as I had actually hyped this place up to my wife because you guys used to be great. I left the place feeling underwhelmed, cheated and bloated from the terrible quality of the food. Some of the sushi was so bad my wife ended up spitting it out onto her napkin. So this is a twilight zone situation where the 3 star restaurant clearly beat a 4.5 star (fleurichi express, see my picture there) I'll update with a picture when I go back here and on that note, yes I will go back! Some thoughts about the ayce, the spider roll is delicious! Sans spider, The raw rolls beat many cooked there is definitely imitation Crab meat in many of the rolls you can order nigiri if you don't like that. Pulled the chair on a Sunday night at Ooi, filled the soy sauce dish to the top in and mixed the slab of nose attacking wasabi, then ordered more than enough rolls stuffed with cream cheese and deep fried crab and savor some uncooked cuts of fishy fish atop balls of rice glob, I just broke all 12 of sushi commandments right away. But who cares when Im dining in an Americanized sushi place (a place where sushi etiquette doesn't apply). A place that offer an all you can eat sushi and appetizers for $25. Its a value for money sushi restaurant, but please please please avoid the sashimi or the raw fishes here. Im saying this because I had the horrible experience of of trying some of the fishiest and nastiest raw fish in Clovis/Fresno. The cooked stuff is actually quite enjoyable, but the raw fish was worse then getting tortured for days in a middle eastern war torture chamber. The service was actually friendly, courteous and fast. And the interior although straying far away from looking Japanese, is actually really nice, comfortable and nicely finished. I thought I would really like this place...but, no. The food was good yes, the service was okay, but the atmosphere and environment was bad. Walked in and stood awkwardly at the front for a few minutes not knowing if we should sit or if we should wait. Finally got told to sit at a table pointed out to us, walked over and felt my feet sticking to the floor as I walked. Already a bad impression and I hadn't even sat down yet.. Upon sitting down I noticed cold air blowing on our legs...which was strange. Didn't know where it was coming from but it was uncomfortable. Not the best I've had, but still good. Didn't say they were going to put lemon or lettuce on it which was odd to me, but easily taken off so whatever. Bf ordered spicy fried rice which he didn't know came with vegetables in it (but honestly, all fried rice does it seems like so that's his own fault) so he didn't eat it. This place has lots of surprise, but the disappointing types of surprises. I am only saying this because it does not meet my expectations of typical sushi places. The atmosphere felt dirty, it's proven by the sticky floor under the table, and their dirty bathroom. The buffet: $25 per person for dinner for bad quality fish is so not worth it. The sushi rolls themselves were poorly made as well, as they were falling apart, and/or getting unrolled as I pick up a piece. For a sushi place, it is also very unusual that they never gave us wasabi and ginger. I had to ask for them, but when they gave them to me, they only gave me little bit of both. I dont know if they were optional, because when i looked at the next table, 1 person had alot of ginger and wasabi. Their menu lacks so much description. I couldn't tell if they did that on purpose to make a surprise to the customers or the menu just really have a huge lack in descriptions. Some of the things that we ordered was the Crunch Roll. In the menu, it didn't say that it had roasted coconut around it, until I ate one, and tasted coconut -- not the flavor that I was looking for ever in a sushi roll. Don't get me wrong, I like coconut, just not in sushi rolls. If I knew that there was coconut in it, I wouldn't have ordered it. We also ordered Baby Shrimps. We expected just plain baby shrimp as there was no description at all in the menu. However, it came as an order of baby shrimps with some kind of cream, wrapped inside a fried wonton wrap. The fried calamari looked like onion rings, which to me was unusual. They are usually small rings, but the one that they have looked like onion rings. It was alright, nothing really special when it comes with the taste. Their service was good, and servers were mostly courteous. Our server was prompt, and there were other servers that were making sure that they are up-to-date with our buffet orders. I would probably not come back to this place. To me their main highlight is their service, but I dont think that is something I would want to come back for, especially when it comes to sushi. read more

The food is still good which is great. Unfortunately, since opening the dining area, my partner and I noticed a change. When we ordered over the phone we were told that our food would be ready in 20 minutes. We got to the place 30 minutes later, but we still had to wait for another 25 minutes. There was a white bigger blonde woman there who was very rude and unwelcoming. She did not say hello and even pushed against my partner to get past him very rudely. Everything seemed so disorganized. I would not even want to eat there because the music was loud and obviously the service is below par. Before the pandemic, Ooi used to have jazz nights, good food, and even better service. $24.95 for AYCE Came by recently for dinner on a Saturday evening, and to our surprise it was not as busy. Ordered the seaweed salad which tasted great, and the portion itself was much larger than what I am used to getting which is good. It came with some type of shredded, white vegetable which I can't seem to think of the name of it off the top of my head. Bulldog roll was good, and consisted of 5-6 rolls? Practically tempura shrimp, with Unagi and Unagi sauce. Kinda overloaded with rice, but nothing too crazy. I don't quite get the salad served with it since it doesn't really go with it well-but that's just me. Orange Blossom roll my gf ordered smelled fresh, and tasted really good according to her. Service was hit and miss. It seems like the older servers here are a clusterfuck and seem to think their job is done once the food is served to you- we had to wave them down for everything! This is a good place for those of us who don't mind getting 60% the quality of a real sushi restaurant at 15% of the price. My usual check at Takumi,Sakura,Japanese Kitchen, and etc. is around $80 for my portion, without the drinks. Here, it's about about $25 with a large order of sake. Sorry, I can't comment on Teriyaki and such but I feel sorry for you if you eat these things at a sushi restaurant. Likewise, if you order things like tempura, remind me to cry for you out of pity. Appetizers are pretty good. Everything's a little on the sweet side, so if you like your food sweet like I do, then everything's good. Sushi is great. I had the squid and it's just as good as anywhere else. I'm not much of a fish eater but the salmon didn't seem to bother me so I assume it's good. The octopus is good too. Sake is cheap here. If you need flavored sake, then I feel sorry for you. My complaint is that the portion of sake is too small. An average person would probably need 3 orders of the large sake to have a good time. If you're happy with just one order, then I feel sorry for you. Service is pretty good here and everybody's friendly. I just wished they give free refills on sake. I don't recommend this place for people who eat with a pretense of being of Hollywood royalty....it's a place for people who eat and enjoy eating simply- for the sake of eating good food that's great for eating. There is no dry ice fog effect for the sushi, you get your food in simple plates so if you're into watching your food put on a show, this is not your kind of restaurant. Literally slam my rolls on the table and left (right when I'm about to ask her for some wasabi/ginger). And you have to wait until they return with your paper in order to get the next rolls. Dumb. One star because the music was good, would come back just for it. I just had the lunch offering and none of us tried the AYCE. This place offers great value for money and has huge portions. Quality of the raw sashimi is decent however they do not use sushi grade rice on their sushi which is disappointing. This place draws comparisons to YOLO, another decent place with great value but has similar issues with the rice. Service is very friendly and attentive otherwise. This place used to be my go-to for a customized chicken teriyaki sushi roll with soy paper. I used to walk in and they knew my order by heart for me. I hadn't been in a while and my partner and I were craving some sushi, so we came to do a takeout order. I got my regular chicken teriyaki roll and my partner got her regular Booty Booty roll with a side of the garlic edamame. My chicken teriyaki roll was the worst roll I've ever had... I paid extra to get avo, spicy mayo, and extra teriyaki sauce. When I got home my roll was missing avocado, spicy mayo, and there was barely any teriyaki on it. I pulled out a piece of cucumber and it was old and soggy, had absolutely no crunch to it. The chicken was tough and over cooked, the ends of it were black. The roll was sooo loose I had to try and eat it with my hands and it still fell apart. The total came out to around $42-$43, paid with a $50 bill and let the server keep the change even though we just walked in and ordered it to go. I ate maybe 1/4 of my roll and threw it away. Had to go to KuniSama the next night for dinner and order the same thing since my craving wasn't anywhere near satisfied. Sadly giving my once go-to place 2 stars only because my partner said her roll was "decent" but the garlic edamame was delicious as always. So disappointing. read more

I am soo impressed! My boyfriend and I have always loved the sushi here and the all you can eat is great. We had kind of stopped going so often because the service wasn't very good. I did notice that a gentleman was seated at an end table alone, doing paperwork. I later found out he was the owner.
