This is our go to sushi joint in Clovis. My husband and I have had sushi all over town and we keep coming back here. The prices are right on and the fish is alway fresh. We are never disappointed. This week we had the AYCE sushi and were thrilled the menu was huge! We were able to try a few new rolls we hadn't previously been brave enough to try. The extensive AYCE menu also offers sashimi, sushi, and appetizers in addition to the rolls. Our food came out super fast. As always it was delicious! Hubby and I had left the kiddos with grandma so we were excited to have some adult food! There was an added bonus for our date night LIVE MUSIC!!!! Came here for lunch at 2pm! We were sat immediately and then didn't get menus for about 15 minutes! Then when the server finally brought us our menus he informed us that we only had 25 minutes for the AYCE! I guess they close at 3 for a few hours... He did let us order a ton of food so that was good. The tempura was okay, the garlic edamame was good, cucumber salad good, but everything else tasted and looked like it was just thrown together in hurry! The sushi we ordered was all heavily mayonnaised and not tasty at all! We actually didn't even finish it! The AYCE is difficult to rate. The food quality is between 2-3 stars. You get a lot of food and they don't try to stuff you with rice. Nice variety of rolls and appetizers. Most of the dishes were tasty, especially the tempura, tempura fish, and tempura banana. The fish dishes were ok, with a definite nod towards the oni combinations (especially if you ask for some chopped green onions to top them off). The service however gets -2 stars. -2 stars!?! - Yes, the appetizers came quickly. However, everything else took a loooong time to get there. After waiting one hour and 35 minutes, we had still had not received our second course (though we had received our third course by then). So we just quit waiting, asked for our check, paid, and left without getting our missing second course. This left us with a one star review and a grave doubts about returning. read more

I just want to start with the fact that I have never felt compelled to leave a bad review of any establishment even when I've had questionable experiences but what my family dealt with at ooi was beyond infuriating. We were the second party to be seated right when they opened. They were 10 of us. We placed our order within those 15 minutes. Half the table did the AYCE and the rest ordered bento plates. All the sushi came out very quickly. We ordered a lot of sushi along with appetizers and half the table finished before the rest of my family had their bento plates. Unbeknownst to the kitchen staff, I have years of food service under my belt. The running time on those bento plates were 45 minutes plus. Not once did the server who initially took our order come to our table to update on the waiting time. My brother went to the kitchen to let them know because we obviously see all these other tables getting food and non stop take out orders going out. Once the food finally comes out the young lady who's serving us says that it took long because the food is made fresh and they just opened. I'm looking at the bento plates like this all should have taken a top 15 minutes even during a rush. We had a child crying at our table because she's hungry, like any common sense service would at least offer something to the child to alleviate some of the distress. Once all of the food came out, one plate had burnt chicken and the other plate was missing chicken. The burnt chicken did not get addressed. All we get for the service is a "I'm sorry". We asked to speak to a manager and without a doubt it was the older man who's busting out the sushi. The sushi was on point. As we can see, he's only able to ensure that all the sushi orders that come in get sent out. He just apologizes also, unable to really remedy or turn over our dissatisfaction. We order more sushi for the AYCE and the mixed sashimi takes some time after we received the rest of our second round. All get we asked is if we need anything. We're not offered to get refills on our drinks and the free ice cream that comes with the all AYCE. When the server comes to clear out our table she doesn't politely grab the plates. She bumped into my brother in law twice. Once we got the check, we see that no one bothered to discount or do anything for us because of the inconvenience. We let our server know, she goes to the back of the house, comes back, my brother in law still looking at the check and she basically pulls it away from him without even asking. An older woman who's also serving comes and gives us a 10 percent discount and took off one of the AYCE plates. We're leaving, and literally as we all step out the front door, our server is literally talking about her experience with us, saying that we're trouble makers to another server. My brother apparently heard her say that they told another table that our table took their sashimi plate. I don't ask that anyone loses their job but it's very apparent front of the house absolutely requires better training. You had multiple people attending all of the tables where your servers should just stick to their tables. It seems everyone is running food but no one is really keeping track of food orders coming in and checking that food is coming out on time. I can tell you from experience that most bad yelp reviews are for long waits. At the end of the day, we just got excuses about being understaffed and that it was busy. No one had their customer service hat on and thought of any way to remedy and take accountability for the long wait. If the server indeed was on her second day, you clearly need to schedule her on slower days so she can learn to handle the pressure because she clearly could not. We all saw a couple who sat down after us and walked out. They never got their food. This business needs a customer service overhaul stat. read more

Our water glasses were empty, our empty dishes were piling up and our waitress would past our table and avoid eye contact. We literally had to flag down another server for water. At first I thought it was just our table but to the right of us, one person from a large party stood up to get the attention of their waitress to inform her that everyone at their table got their meal and was half way through eating and her meal was nowhere in sight. Shortly after that a guy walks up to the same waitress and tells her, "I've been waiting for someone to take my order for over 20 minutes...this is bad service!" And walks out. Well by this time it was 45 minutes since we last placed an order and my kids we falling asleep at the table half fed. I was dismayed at how terrible service was this evening. I wanted to take the rest of what I ordered home but they were quick to point out that "you cannot do that with all you can eat!" Well don't offer what you can't deliver! I'm not saying the quality is mediocre because I've made it a point to try most of their stuff and I'm upset but it is MEDIOCRE! And the service is WORSE! Love this place. Great location, huge rolls and the sushi chefs are awesome. Never felt ignored even when they are super busy. I go at least once a week and will continue to go. My daughter doesn't eat fish but loves the rice and Tu made her a custom chicken roll so she could eat "sushi" with us. The bar is definitely the best service and we will wait to sit and chat with all the chefs. The Mickey Mouse is my new favorite and I love how you can substitute if you are particular to a specific fish. My BF loves the salmon and appreciates the amount given for the sashimi appetizer. Make sure you check out the nasty message the cook or owner sent me after I posted my review! Think twice before supporting a business like this. What an absolute joke. I attached a picture of my "vegetable" yakisoba, the only vegetarian dish (besides tofu and I don't eat soy) on the menu. The picture is exactly how it came to me- almost no vegetables to speak of. A few scraps of cabbage and tiny shreds of carrots and 4 tiny pieces of zucchini. We had two waitresses waiting on us and I had to ask both of them twice each if I could get a plate of more vegetables to add on top. I probably waited around 20 minutes between all 4 of these inquiries, assuming they forgot or didn't care. I explained to both of them this was just a giant plate of noodles with a few scraps of vegetables. One waitress seemed to understand more than the other but the rude waitress just stared at me and said "that's how we make it." I kept insisting until finally the cook or the manager came out and pretty much just kept repeating over and over "that's the vegetable yakisoba." I said "I know what I ordered but this hardly has any vegetables, it's just a giant plate of noodles, can I please get a plate of more vegetables to add on top? This isn't a meal." She said sarcastically "how do you want me to make it?" I said "with more vegetables!" She continued to just say "that's the vegetable yakisoba" until she literally just turned around and walked away and I never saw her again. Their idea of compensation was 2 orders of vegetable tempura for $2, after I explained we shouldn't have to pay for more vegetables since our vegetable dish never had any vegetables on it to begin with. A longtime sushi buddy introduced me to Ooi recently, and it has become my "go to" sushi bar... Prices are very reasonable, quality is excellent and the staff is friendly... The $26 all you can eat sushi is a great value, and still saves us quite a bit, despite the fact that we usually quaff quantities of Sapporo and Nigori sake... EDIT: EXCEPT on Wednesdays when they have live entertainment. The entire restaurant is an open room about 40 x 40 feet, with no sound absorbing material. On Wednesdays, they have live entertainment, which sounds like a good idea to attract customers. The Wednesday entertainment has been either a single guitarist/vocalist or a SEVEN PIECE BAND (including a trombone), with both acts using AMPLIFIERS (!). The performers were very good, and the single performer would be a nice touch without the amp, but the venue is far too small for a seven piece band, and DEFINITELY does not require amplifiers. We stopped going there on Wednesdays to enjoy dining with friends instead of wearing earplugs and shouting to be heard. read more

We have tried all of the sushi AYCE restaurants in Fresno. We finally decided to try Ooi in Clovis. We had one comment after we finished eating...wished we had eaten here sooner. Our service was friendly and quick. There were two menus, one for appetizers and one for sushi. It was fun just reading through the names of the sushi rolls. I'll keep this short. The quality of food was great. It was fresh and the pieces of fish on the Nigiri were noticeably bigger and thicker.
