I would like to express my appreciation of Austin's professional ingenuity and get the word out that he is head and shoulder above Genius Bar in what he does-- device repair. Price is reasonable. Here is the quick story: Last Saturday (08-15-2026) I took my 2016 Apple MacBook Pro to Apple Genius Bar for diagnostic and repair, where I was received with utmost courtesy, waited there patiently for 1.5 hours, witnessed my computer given all kinds of diagnostic tactics by the receptionist, who did with all her earnest effort to revive it. Unfortunately I had to leave Genius Bar with the announcement that my MacBook Pro is "beyond repair." Unconvinced, I tried my luck on another store from online search and found The Device Lab, and Austin fixed it! Well, an old computer is an old computer and there is no need for much fuss or excitement about this triviality. But Austin left me with another impression: his sincerity and ability to do what he sets out to do, which is to repair. What can be cooler than a man who delivers his promise by doing what he likes and is good at? I spoke to Austin and found his business philosophy reasonable and truthful: doing what he likes, helping people, figuring out the cause of problem, getting things fixed without having to resort to replacement ( a favorite recommendation from big companies...). Behind this work ethic and principle is another guideline that directs his work: trust from his customers. I like that! O, by the way, there is another reason that urged me to write this review for Austin. He told me he started this company over a year ago, and I see in him what I had to go through back in 2004, when I started having my own tutoring center. I understand how a small business like his lives on word of mouth among customers, as it was with my own company. I also understand how negative comments tend to travel ten times faster than good, appreciative feedback. What really stood out to me was that they actually had the screen in stock, every other place I called had to order it and told me it would take a couple of days, plus they were quoting me $20-$40 more. Not only was The Device Lab able to do the repair the same day but their pricing was super fair. On top of that, the vibe of the shop is honestly amazing. The moment I walked in, I noticed how warm and welcoming everything felt. I even complimented the owner because it's so different from the typical plain, white-wall repair shops. As it turned out, Andrew knew he hadn't been able to get the battery to properly configure. He told me he thought it "might be ok anyways," when I talked to him Monday after he let me figure out myself it crashed every 3 to 15 minutes from over heating while they were closed for the weekend. They agreed to order a new battery, but thereafter they could not get any battery, not even my original battery to work again. I had to purchase a new phone. FYI, after there camera lens replacement it no longer focused ("dust they couldn't do anything about," he said, when I let them know it took worse pictures then while it was cracked!). I needed to find someone who could walk me with the processing of cleaning up my IMac and making it work for me. Because of the pandemic I was so very hesitant in having someone come into the home but after 6 months of staying at home and with reassurances from Mark at Anything Mac that he would come and keep safe and wear a mask we allowed him into our home. We are very pleased with the results at this time as he went into our system and cleared it up to ensure that we are totally backed up on our computer and our external hard drive as well. He also was able to rid our computer of unwanted apps, cookies (no Oreos) and other nuisances to enable our computer to be more user friendly. He was very patient with us when we asked our stupid questions and gave us a tutorial on how to use our computer properly. It is working and we are finally able to access our over 80,000 photos in Photos. He was able to set up our new Epson scanner and we can finally run it competently. He was patient, thorough, exacting and tenacious at best to ensure that what we wanted he was able to provide for us. We had a great experience and cannot say enough on his behalf. Brought it back and all 8 backlights are renewed and itll hopefully get many more years. He helped me get it back up and running too. At first things didnt seem to be working, but after tinkering with it i found the issue and i factory reset the tv and that seemed to do the trick. It seems the tv was very cranky from being worked on and having its guts removed it needed a full reset. I wanted to wait a day or so before writing my review just incase something happened. But im happy to say everythings good! I would definitely reccomend this guy if you need your tv fixed right! His prices are very reasonable too.
