I took the BLS course and it was great. The instructor was good no problem with the actual course. I took the class over 2 weeks ago and still have not received my card to prove that I am certified, they keep telling me they are looking into it. I took the course because I needed to and I can't prove that I did. Frustrating. read more

The program is put on by EMTs who work at OnSite, as well as community volunteers who regularly return to help teach specific lectures in the course (as well as offer advice and their outside time during skills practicing). I loved every guest lecturer, and the EMTs who taught the class are incredibly friendly, insane (in a hard-working, devoted to their profession kind of way), and great people to be around. Despite most of them living in surrounding cities that are hours away, they always do their best to be available for office hours and outside questions + additional practice to prepare for training. The skills testing/final + written exam were stressful + some of the most grueling 3 days of my life, but I felt very confident about my general skills to feel prepared for a job as a starting EMT. I also passed my NREMT on my first try with little to no review even 3 months after I completed the course, haha. While I was doing the ER rotation at UCDMC, most of the staff commented on how professional I looked in my uniform (as a student of OnSite) compared to some of the other students from different programs. I was treated as if I was actually an EMT, and was allowed to move patients, watch procedures, etc. A few of my classmates also performed CPR on the patients they saw. It's a great opportunity and you'll learn a lot of skills that are just useful to know if an emergency ever comes up :P read more

I took my EMT-B course through OMS in 2012. It was a great course! I loved the fact that they offered lectures and skills labs from certified EMT's, Paramedics, PhD Professors, and MD's. The course was challenging, but they 100% prepared me for the NREMT, which I breezed right through and easily passed the first time. The people they hire and have working for them are very knowledgeable and educated. There are so many EMS companies out there, but OMS definitely tops the list when it comes to quality and genuine passion for what they do. read more

I did both my CPR certification and EMT-Basic course at Onsite Medical Service, and the classes were great! It is the only EMT course taught by PhD's and MD's as well as paramedics and EMTs, and all the instructors and TAs are extremely helpful and dedicated to helping the students improve. I felt very knowledgeable after the class, and passed my N.R.E.M.T. the first time I took it. They also recently started offering ACLS training, and are adding even more resources to help their students be the best trained out there. I took my EMT-Basic training program here at Onsite Medical Service. I took the accelerated 8 week summer course instead of their regular 16 week course. Thus, the course was fast paced with classes meeting 3-4 times a week, with 4 hour lectures and 9 hours lab days. Labs may seem long, but the day passes by quickly, because you are actively learning and practicing skills, and not just sitting in the classroom waiting for the minutes to go by. This course was challenging, but it was definitely doable. The lectures and labs were structured and everything was very well organized. One of the unique things about this program is that lectures are taught directly by professors from UC Davis, EMTs, paramedics, and doctors, who are currently practicing and using their knowledge in their own profession. Each of these individuals will give you a unique perspective based on their experiences in their own respective field of practice. All the labs are taught by TAs who are practicing EMTs that work for OMS. They are very knowledgeable and give great advice from what they've done and seen in the field to help us improve our skills as well as how to handle difficult situations. The labs are filled with hands on experience where you get to practice the necessary skills and familiarize yourself with the tools that you will use as a practicing EMT. One of my favorite things about this program are the people. Aside from working for OMS, the TAs are all volunteers who come on their own time to help teach. They are some of the most hardworking and dedicated group of people that I know. Despite the lack of sleep that they have, the TAs are still happy to lend a hand. They take time out of their day to hold extra office hours so the students can get more practice. They are all great teachers and are very approachable and friendly and are passionate about what they do. Overall, they are an amazing group of people to be around and I definitely wouldn't mind calling them for help if I had an medical emergency. With this course, I felt very prepared to take the NREMT, which I passed with ease on my very first try! read more

We have worked with OMS to staff on call EMTs at events for the past six years in San Francisco and Oakland. The trained staff are patient, kind, knowledgeable and calm and ready to handle any situation that arises when thousands of people congregate in the same place for a few hours. OMS also assists with the Mass Gathering Reports required by SF EMS, and I am so thankful to have a trusted and experienced organization to rely on for the details and answers to the obligations that seem to change with every event. There are dozens of on call medical services to use in the Bay Area, and I have heard from most centers asking us to use their staff instead of OMS. Sticking with OMS is my professional choice, and I know they will continue to support us and our event attendees. read more

Quick, easy & cost effective CPR course. I'll be attending again this month as mine is now expiring.

Came here for training about 2 years ago or so. Didn't make it far into the program before life interfered as it tends to do and I was forced to drop out of it. If you intend to stick with it, it seems to me to be a very good program; I was impressed by the instructors, facilities, etc, etc, etc. It all seemed very good, and well worth the cost. So why the one-star review? When I dropped out of the program, I was assured a refund would be issued in due time. Because I elected to keep some of the equipment, it wouldn't have been a full refund. Makes sense, right? Yeah. I got nothing at all back from this place. I took care of all the paperwork they wanted me to do, drove an hour out of my way on three separate occasions to see the process through, and they told me my refund check was in the mail. Waited, waited, and then waited some more, and lo and behold, two years later, I'm writing this Yelp review because I got nothing. Wrote several emails to everyone who runs this program, and all of them were dodged. No responses from anyone. Three hundred something dollars down the toilet. I'm sure it's a fine program, but I got a really shady vibe from the whole situation (I'm writing this review so long after the fact because I got a promotional email from them this afternoon and was reminded of my experience). I also remember reading some not-so-good reviews when I was first researching this place, and they seem to have been taken down. Interesting, very interesting. As an aside: I now work in IT now and I'm about to complete my associate's degree in computer networking so the medical field didn't work out for me, but I know a guy who completed one of these programs and said that (unsurprisingly to me) no one will hire people who complete them with no other experience or education. Most people who were in the program (or at least, the ones with any common sense) were university or community college students, and a few others were volunteer firefighters. If you're looking for a place like this to serve as a substitute for going to college and getting an education or going to work (or actually learning knowledge to apply later in life at the very least), don't. You'll get nothing out of it. Otherwise, it might be a good program for you. Just make sure no personal incidents in your life come up that force you to bail on it, because if my experience is any indication, you won't get a dime back from these people. read more

I took the CPR and EMT course because the timing as well as the location were perfect for me. During the first 2 weeks of the EMT course I was a little more than intimidated, mostly because I have almost no science background. Now that the course is over, I almost (key word) wish it wasn't. It is a difficult, yet very manageable course. This isn't a course where you want to just sit through a class, put in your hours and then grab a certificate of completion. If that's your mindset, then they probably don't want you there anyway. These guys are professionals who are passionate about what they do and care about your educational experience. They want to send the best they can out there and if you have that mindset then this is the perfect course for you. Don't be scared, have some confidence because as long as you put in effort, real effort, anyone can pass this course. The beginning of the course is designed to give students a "well-rounded" EMS education. This means that professors, ER doctors, and medics will lecture, each giving you a unique perspective and knowledge base that I don't think you'd be able to find anywhere else. The labs will be a grind of skills learning. I took the 8 week course and the labs ran from 9-5, but it never felt that long. It's an enjoyable course and like other courses from college I've taken in the past. If the instructors are passionate, the course becomes easy and extremely enjoyable. The TA's always offer up extra office hours, I don't think these guys don't get paid for the extra office hours, so they do just want to help the students out. I have not taken my NREMT yet, I'll probably schedule it next week, but I am more than confident in my ability to pass it. This is coming from a guy who before this course hadn't taken a "science-y" class in over a decade. read more

It doesn't seem like any of the EMT class lab instructors is a paramedic (the lead instructor is almost a paramedic, but not yet). Some of the EMT instructors only have one or two years of experience, and not with 911 companies. Every other program in the area has only experienced paramedics teach and grade lab. OMS is also slow in assigning ride-alongs (some students have to wait months *after* the end of the course to do their rotations, and thus have to postpone taking the national registry exam). Lastly, some of their advertising pitches are not kept, such as the supposed helicopter demonstration that's still in the course description on their website. read more
