A great crinkle fry is a thing of beauty. You will find a great crinkle fry -- or several dozen -- here at One Trick Pony. I ordered the fries plain, and I ordered them Whizbang style (with Cheese Whiz, grilled onions and jalapeños), and I can't tell you which was better because they were both excellent. The Whizbang Fries have a little kick to them, but they're not too spicy. Just enough to make things interesting. The burgers are made in the smash-burger style, so the edges of the meat is crispy and a little charred. I love smash burgers, and if you do too, then you will love the burgers at OTP. I got the Whiz Bang burger, which comes with American cheese and Cheese Whiz, jalapeños, onions, shredded lettuce and mustard. If I were to change anything, I would get my burger with light mustard. My burger had quite a lot of mustard, and it kind of took away from the taste of the two cheeses. But that being said, it was still an amazing burger. I was looking forward to trying the smash burgers at One Trick Pony, located in Fisher's Test Kitchen. All the photos online made them look like things of beauty, with a thin frilly layer of caramelized meat on the outside encased in a fluffy bun. The Oklahoma Onion Burger seemed by the far the most interesting after reading about it. Apparently this burger originated in Oklahoma during the Great Depression, when the addition of onions to the burger meant that less meat would be used in the patty. I'm not sure what happened, but unfortunately the burger I received fell short of expectations. Oklahoma Onion Burger ($8.50) - The photo on the menu showed a veritable stack of onions atop the patty and a beef patty so large it was overflowing the bun. I ordered this with some additional tomato, lettuce, and extra onions. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with the result. The beef patty was smashed super thin, but there wasn't that promised crispy skirt of meatiness around the burger and it wasn't nearly as large as the pictures indicated. The beef flavor itself was overwhelmed by the copious amounts of mustard slathered on both the top and bottom buns. The oniony-ness was also rather lacking; while there was charred onion as well as raw onion on top and bottom of the burger, it was hard to discern the flavor behind all of the mustard. Complementing the burger was a good slice of tomato and a helping of shredded lettuce, along with some vinegary pickle slices. There was a sad slice of unmelted American cheese on top of the burger patty and keeping everything together was a nicely toasted, but unremarkable bun. I'm not entirely sure what went wrong - perhaps my expectations were just a bit too high given how good the photo looked? It's unlikely, but if I ever went to One Trick Pony again, I would also get more than one burger patty. They are pounded so thin that a single patty isn't substantial enough. This place is located in the Fisher's Test Kitchen. You can also get to it through the Sun King Brewery. The Test Kitchen consist of three restaurants, one of which is the One Trick Pony. This restaurant's one trick is burgers, which they have a few exotic choices of. They also have fries, onion rings and other sides. The place was very clean and orderly. There is indoor seating and a very nice outdoor patio that has music playing out there. I am not sure who owns the seating, whether it is Sun Kings, or the Test Kitchen. I believe that it is shared. But when you do sit down and eat, a waiter/waitress from Sun King will come out and ask if you want anything. For me that was a bonus, I got one of their frozen drinks to wash down my meal. But for those of you that are not drinking, it may be a bit awkward. They do have non-alcoholic drinks I got a little crazy and ordered the Whiz Bang Burger with two patties and had them add some bacon to it. I ordered a side of fries for good measure. The food was delicious. I really liked the burger. It is smash burger type and decent sized. Very top notch. It was extremely flavorful and filling. This is a wonderful addition to a trendy section of Fishers. It is a semi-fast food joint that is available for dine in or carry out. If you are looking for a good burger, look no further. I saw on their Instagram page they were running a special on Thursday's, a single burger and fry for $6.00 so I finally made it there last night and it definitely did not disappoint. I ordered my single patty with cheese, shredduce, tomato, pickles, mustard, and ketchup. All the vegetables were crisp and fresh, loved the pickles they are thick and they put several on my burger. Also love that the lettuce is shredded (hence the word shredduce). If I had to do it over again I think I would order a double though because the patties are thin, go with the less is more on a single. But don't let the thin patty fool you it's full of flavor! The crinkly fries were so perfectly crispy, hot and tasty that I really felt like I had a fry awakening. You can choose fries or onion rings, then have them cheesy style (cheese on top), three-way (cheese, chili, roasted chiles), four-way (cheese, chili, roasted chiles, sour cream) or oui oui (garlic French onion gravy). I also got a single stack burger, NJB style (mustard, pickle, onion, shrettuce, American cheese). All of their burgers are diner-style smash burgers and you can get anywhere from one to three patties. You can then get those roadhouse style (with American cheese), old John style (shrettuce, pickle, onion, tomato, mustard, Mayo, American cheese), dandy (shrettuce, onion, pickle, tomato, American cheese, rempujase) or the NJB style, mentioned above. I don't know what the hell is going on with the crunchy edges of the beef patties, but I like it a lot. It's crunchy like a perfect piece of crisp bacon, or a lacy fringe of spilled cheese fried until brown. I really like thin, smashed burgers - and OTP has this part nailed. One of the success stories of the Fishers Test Kitchen at the Yard is that there has already been a transition from one of the businesses to a replacement. One Trick Pony has stepped into the last kitchen area in the row of pop up test kitchens next to Sun King. I got a chance to talk after my lunch with the man running the restaurant. He has grand hopes for franchising his concept across the whole country to maybe 1200 businesses! Talk about ambition. The key to that is finding out how your first business is received and ironing out any problems before you go big! I must say that this is an impressive start. First, the name: "One Trick Pony" refers to their logo which states "We do one thing really well. An that's hot, fresh, smashed burgers that are diner style, made to order, & pressed on a hot griddle". That is definitely true. I ordered a double burger and each of the patties (about a quarter pound) was individually seasoned and seared to bring out the deep beef taste. Know that you can order a single, double, or triple burger. Instead of telling them what you want on your order, they have "Styles" of toppings you can select. I picked the Old John style which has shrettuce (shredded lettuce), pickle, onion, tomato, mustard, mayo, and American Cheese. There are several other styles you can order and if you need other condiments, there were some packets near the cash register, so be sure to look if your "style" doesn't come with a particular one. I also ordered a side of fries. You can get just plain fries or onion rings, but you can also order them with many types of sauces/cheeses (basically a poutine). Let me say that the first bite of my burger had a great crunch to it! Crisp toppings (pickle, onion, tomato) and a crisp sear to each of the burgers was a pleasant surprise. That's the way I like my burger and although there was a lot to eat, I didn't feel like I had any trouble fitting these smashed burgers in my mouth. (Much different than eating the half pound Big Mouth Burgers that are usually underseasoned and rely upon the toppings for flavor. If anything, by seasoning each of the burgers, they were almost too salty by the end, but they didn't get too bad because of all the toppings on mine. The cheesy style fries were okay. The cheese reminded my of the creamy smooth Cheez- Whiz style so that it could be pourable/dip-able. I noticed that the cheese was poured directly onto the fries and by the time I got to the end, the fries were getting soggy. After lunch, I stopped by and asked if the owner would like any feedback. I suggested they pour the sauces/cheese for the fries into a small cup and let the customer dip the fries. He said he really like that idea and thought it would be really helpful for carryout orders. So if you get fries with a topping and don't want to eat them first, simply ask for the sauce on the side! The stand along fries seemed crisp and already salted, so my wife grabbed some ketchup packets from the counter for hers. Overall, we really enjoyed our food and interaction with the owner. One thing you should be aware of if you go in for lunch: Sun King doesn't open until the middle afternoon, so you will need to order a beverage from the restaurant, or wait until later in the day if you want a beer with your meal. Don't blame One Trick Pony if you can't get a beer. This business is not associated with Sun King in any way other than sharing the same dining room. Note that like the other food places in the Test Kitchen, you pay when you order and they give you a buzzer that lets you know your food is ready to come pick up. That way you can stake claim to one of the seating places in the common seating area. Also note that napkins and plasticware are located at stations near the entrance. Down below is the place you can throw away your trash. (I believe Sun King busses the tables later in the day.) Near those stations, they also have sanitizer and cloths you can use to spray your own table and chairs before sitting if you are uncertain when the last time it was sanitized. It's nice to see a new business looking successful during these difficult times. We enjoyed our experience and would gladly return to dine again! Note that it isn't a cheap burger place like the fast food places, but depending upon the number of burgers you stack on your sandwich, the price can climb fairly fast. We just got home from here and it was great. So think of this place as a food court. There are currently three different choices. You order at a kiosk and they will text you when it's ready to pickup. They have open seating which is part of Sun King brewery. Tonight it was packed and a little noisy. I got the Dandy burger and I took off the dandy sauce and replaced with mayo. I got a double but regretted that once I saw it. Even though they are smashed they are still big burgers. Also, I'm not certain what Dandy sauce is, but I can tell you that it doesn't really have much of a flavor thus it wasn't dandy.. I expected that a $12 burger would be pretty great but it was pretty disappointing. There just wasn't any flavor...at all. Next up, the chilli-cheese fries. These too fell flat. I felt like I was eating them to just get the money back that I'd spent on them. I didn't enjoy them. The fries are just you basic crinkly fries. The cheese and chilli...meh. I'm not sure what all of the intent is here but It all falls flat and fairly tasteless. Given that there are sooooo many great burger places around, some for a fraction of a cost, to have an expensive burger that is fairly tasteless and chilli-cheese fries that are attempting to be something they are not, you are better off trying something else. I rarely write a bad review as I can usually find something to find some pleasure in, but this was one of those places. So a couple of stars for the friendly staff. read more

A great new pop up in the Fishers Test Kitchen. Focusing on a simple American burger. I enjoyed a double paddy NJB style with an order of oui oui onion rings and my colleague feasted on a double Old John style with three-way fries. As if by magic the burger was gone, if it hadn't been so filling I would have gone back for another right then. The onion rings were nice and crispy and the french onion gravy was on point. The chili, cheese, roasted peppers mix is a definite must wether you have it on the fries or onion rings. Do remember oh, while it will be around for a little bit this is a pop up so get there while you can. read more

I'm a Neal Brown fan club member so I'm excited for OTP to be in Fishers Test Kitchen since I live down the street. The reason I'm not giving a full 5 stars is because I ordered take out and I felt like my smash burger was so thin, it felt like I was eating crispy char with the pieces crumbling as I took it out of the foil. I loved how simple the concept is and they purposely say that their burgers are "not fancy" so they come w/ your traditional toppings (ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato) but at the same time for the price point of once you load everyone on there, I think I would've wanted a not-so-thin patty. I will say the presentation and burger itself seems much better when you get it at the test kitchen. The sides are phenomenal though - all the junk, fried, hangover curing goodness you'd expect. Super crispy onion rings and cheesy crinkle cuts or you can load up on the add-ons and get chili, jalapenos, sour cream and really get messy with it. read more
