We used One Step Cleaning for a bit until they abruptly told us they could no longer clean for us because we had cats. I think overall, the cleanings were mostly good, but it felt like there was always something and at some level I didn't really trust the owner Emma. The first time my apartment was cleaned, a lady showed up with what appeared to be two children who should have been in school. I didn't think much of it at first, but it later became apparent to me that the lady cleaning always brought at least one child with her. None of the children spoke English and the situation made me a little uncomfortable. At some point it came up in conversation and Emma insisted to me that this child was actually an employee and was there to clean my unit. She said she has a hard time finding a job because most employers do not believe she is 18, but that she was. Since she looked and acted like a child, this just strained credulity . . . When I first booked, I asked if she could just skip a large guest bathroom/bedroom and bill us for a two bedroom apartment instead of a three bedroom. I was told this was impossible because of her system and she had no choice but to charge me the higher rate. At some point it came up again that I was paying to have rooms cleaned that I didn't want cleaned and she told me if I paid her via Venmo rather than credit card she would continue cleaning all of the rooms, but at a lower price. I said this was fine, but then they stopped cleaning the extra rooms and told me this was what we agreed to. Fine, but it definitely wasn't what we agreed to. Finally, Emma told me rather abruptly that she could no longer clean my apartment. There was a story that involved someone hurting their back, someone else going to Mexico, and Emma being allergic to cats. It didn't really feel that believable and I can think of other reasons why she would do this, but in the end it felt like an 'ok' resolution since at some level I didn't trust her anymore because of all the stories she told me. read more

I just started my own airbnb business and had reached out to One Step Clean. When I reached out, I explained that I was not going to be physically at the home, but explained that the home needed to be cleaned and the comforter needed to be washed and changed before my guests arrived. One Step Clean responded quickly sent photos of the rooms when they were done so I had assumed that everything went well. I just got off the phone with my first guests who stayed there and they gave me the following feedback: - the home didn't feel very clean; there was dust in the corners of the home - the blinds were dirty -the comforter was dirty - worst of all the laundry room + the bedroom smelled like mold because wet towels had been left in the washing machine. the guests had to re-wash This is unacceptable. The blinds I can understand to some extent because it was not a deep clean. However, they left soaking wet towels in the washing machine, which made the entire unit smell like mold! The owner, Emma, and our cleaners were great! We've hired cleaners for the same job twice in the past and had those "horror story" results. (Among so many other things, the previous cleaners underestimated the time needed and didn't finish an entire room and even the "cleaned" rooms had a lot missed). Emma gave us a good time estimate and even worked with us to prioritize what we needed done since we were asking for the bottom of the time estimate, so that if more time was needed, at least the important things were cleaned and we could hire them for a follow up cleaning if needed. And very importantly, it was easy to communicate with both the owner and cleaners. Emma even called to talk so that she could let her cleaners know our needs/expectations. Another thing I loved was that the cleaners were proactive--when they were close to finishing, they had us check over the parts that were already cleaned for them to touch up if needed. Most cleaners wait until the very end, so if there was anything, it's kind of rushed/awkward because they're waiting on you to look around and they'd end up staying longer than you/they accounted for, etc. The only piece of constructive criticism is it seemed like the vacuum used wasn't very effective on the carpeting, but I'd gladly have them use our vacuum. read more
