I've been to this salon three times now since moving to Ann Arbor, after a friend recommended it and I'm so glad she did. I always book with Cameron Hawley, and honestly, he just gets hair. I don't trust many people with mine because it's taken me a long time to grow it out and take care of it, but he was the first person to cut it after two years of no trims, and I've been coming back every three months ever since. My hair has never felt better. I also brought my mom once, she wanted a short haircut, but Cameron made a better recommendation based on her face shape, and it turned out amazing. She left feeling so confident and beautiful! I've also been doing the strengthening treatment with my cuts, and it's made my hair noticeably healthier and shinier. This time around, I came in for a trim and a Keratin Express treatment, and the results were wowwwww. With all the rain lately, I usually get a ton of frizz, but this treatment actually works and is totally worth the hype. I also picked up a few products Cameron recommended including a mousse, an anti‑frizz serum, and a thermic treatment. Full disclosure: I'm a Kérastase lover and have been using the brand for years, but I didn't know about these specific treatments. Now I'm obsessed. My hair feels so smooth, glowy, and healthy. My name is Karissa Shannon, I am a high profile/recognizable celebrity Playboy playmate. I have been in the entertainment industry for over 17 years. I have always been platinum blonde. I was getting my hair color done by Julia every 5 to 6 weeks just the roots and she fried the crown of my hair to the point where it feels like straw and is broken off! I will attach photos to my review. She was more concerned about timing and getting me in and out as quick as possible within the hour. She did not care about the health of my hair. She was using 40 volume and lying to me and telling me it was only 20 volume and she put me under the heater so of course the crown of my hair broke where the heater circulates. So the top of my head is only 2 inches now I can literally make a mohawk out of the top of my head only. It's going to take me years to grow it back. I'm not trying to write a whole paragraph but Julia did tell her Manager that I was upset about the breakage, and the only thing the manager offered was a free Kerastase protein/conditioning treatment. Since I'm in the entertainment industry, this has caused big problems for me as I have interviews lined up this month with us weekly, People Magazine, Dr. Phil, etc. Since all of the breakage, I had to get extensions to cover up all the breakage so One One Nine Salon suggested I go to Sarah who works there for extensions, she charged me $2800 for the extensions and an additional $500 to do my color which was Baby root not even a half inch and she broke my hair even more coloring the ends to try and blend the extensions with my real hair and it broke off. The extensions she put in after three nights of sleeping started to break my hair off and become so loose that it was hanging off of my head. I'm going to attach pictures. They overcharge and no one has enough experience or takes the time to do your hair in quality way. All they care about is getting you in and out and getting as much customers in there in one day as possible. Clearly, the manager does not care because I haven't been able to speak to the manager directly or even get any compensation for what's happened. Brittany Kelly (formerly Munker) is a true hair artist! Check out some of her work on Instagram @hairbybmunks. She's phenomenal with color, I think especially if you're looking to go lighter. She has always absolutely nailed my color appointments and really works with you to understand what you're looking for. And yes, for the Chinese/Asians out there, she's great with Asian hair! And has some photos on instagram with examples. She understands how to progress you towards the color you want while keeping your hair healthy. For me, low maintenance is important, so she always used color techniques that grew out really nicely. She was also my trusted go-to to help me prep my hair for my wedding last summer. We talked hair prep, timing for a trim/tone, extensions, and although I didn't end up going with a semi-permanent install with her, she still helped me color match so I could order clip in extensions. She didn't have to do that, but her customer service is top notch and she always makes you feel listened to and cared about! Every appointment with Brittany is a 10/10. From personal experience, her color and cuts never miss. From what I can see, her extension work is amazing too. The salon itself is beautiful and clean and bright. The pricing is on the higher end (not your budget salon), but the quality of the service reflects it. The front desk folks are always friendly and helpful. Place: I saw their insta and was interested in getting my hair toned and lightened. I saw a post by hairbyshayee (Shaye M) and was excited to make an appointment. It was easy and you just call and I think I made an appointment pretty quick. When you book appointment they ask what you are looking for and ask if there was any insta pics you want to reference from their one one nine instagram. Service: Shaye was super nice and I showed her a picture of what I wanted she was able to copy and paste it onto my hair. I have thick hair but Shaye was patient and helped me get the desired look. She gave a treatment, hair cut, and curled my hair for a reasonable price. I was shocked and was like I am coming back again. She was honest and told me that I should come back 6-8 weeks to retone. . . . One month later and I am still loving my hair and the highlights still look nice. My college age daughter is a two-time brain cancer survivor. Because of her chemotherapy and radiation treatments ,she is left with a small bald spot on the back of her head and alopecia. My daughter saw Kaiti for a blow-out on three separate occasions. Kaiti was using a very hot flat iron around her face which was causing hair to break off. My daughter asked Kaiti if she could abandon using the flat iron and instead do a blow-out. Kaiti became defensive, my daughter didn't feel like she was listening to her and at the end of her service Kaiti said to her "just so you know your bald spot seems to be getting bigger." My daughter left embarrassed and upset. Her bald spot is a sensitive subject and Kaiti very flippantly brought it up seemingly with no reason . I tried to speak with the manage about this incident and they saw no issue with what went on. Heartless to treat a cancer survivor this way. I would go elsewhere and avoid this salon at all costs! read more

I like my stylist I've been seeing for a couple years now. She's personable and I usually leave the salon happy. However, the salon in general doesn't list prices for their services - not even a range. I initially started going there and the haircuts were $55. It was a little steep IMO for what I got, but I thought that must be what the "going rate" was for a haircut. (I looked around at other salons and more often than not, haircuts seem to run around $50ish so it was not a big deal). Cut to 2022, I went in, got my "usual" haircut and style (which was NEVER anything more than blowing my hair dry). I went to pay and the prices were now $67 for a haircut. I was shocked and just paid it, but thought about it more later and felt like the experience I had DID NOT warrant $67 + tip. Also, the price increase without notice kind of pissed me off, frankly. It's a financial gamble IMO to get any service done here beyond a haircut because their prices for the experience, results and the responses to (legitimate) clients who walk away unhappy is subpar. I've wanted to get balayage done and/or considered a keratin treatment (both of which I had done more than once at different salons), but frankly, have been too afraid at what the charge would be at checkout (there's no discussion beforehand). Also to note.. 1. The vibe of the salon in general is a little highbrow. This is Ann Arbor (not Rodeo Drive) where students are a big part of the population as well as regular people who DO need and want to worry about the money they're spending. They make you feel like a peasant if you want to discuss charges for services. 2. They seem to cater/specialize in blondes. That's ok - no shade for that, but it feels like a salon that specializes in blondes at the expense of brunettes. The vast majority of the social media "before and afters" is blonde, blonde, blonde. What about the rest of us? Does anyone know how to color/highlight brunette hair? I just made an appointment at a new place. Finding a hairstylist in Michigan that could take on my Asian hair was hard! Finding a hairstylist in California for my hair was hard too. After years of dealing with orange/brass highlights because of my background it was a blessing when I found Christine in Cali. Now I'm in Michigan... what the heck do I do?! Well, I read every single Yelp review for as many salons in Southeast Michigan and scrolled through IG for hours. I was soooo happy to find Brittany Munks at One One Nine. It was awesome to see what see can do with dark hair and it sealed the deal when I saw blonde Asians raving about her. One of the reviews shared that she was from Cali too, so I thought I give it a try. I felt like I was cheating on Christine, but I'm 2,500 miles away from her soooo I checked out Brittany and her skills. Wowweee! She has skills! I absolutely LOVE how Brittany Munker did my hair. I have never felt more confident and in love with my hair. She did such a good job at blending it and not making anything too harsh. I got so many compliments from classmates, even my ex left me a nice message about my hair . She is also so sweet and friendly! Makes me want to be her friend. I felt very safe going to the salon. They took all the necessary precautions and everyone had a mask on the entire time I was there. It was on the expensive side, $350 total (baby light balayage and haircut - I have really thick hair, so it may be less for you). However, the extra 50-75$ more is well worth it. I've never made a yelp review before but I absolutely had to for this salon. Cam took incredible care of me. He was friendly and conversational and made sure to communicate thoroughly with me in order to understand what he could or couldn't do with my hair. I admittedly asked a bit much of him (I called for a trim and decided last minute that I wanted a shag cut for my birthday) and he came through completely. He was quick and efficient and my hair has literally never looked better. I will 100% be returning to him, this time for an actual trim . I called on Saturday and got an appointment on Monday. Really liked my experience! I previously had one hairstylist that I consistently went to, but she was really expensive and moved to a different salon an hour away. I wish I'd come here sooner. My stylist was Cassidy. She really took her time with my hair, and asked me each step of the way what I thought and if I wanted her to change anything. I trusted her and told her to do what she thought would look good, and I think it turned out great. She also curled my hair at the end of my blowdry and I was happily surprised to see that my haircut wasn't any more expensive because of that. My previous stylist snuck an extra $100 on my bill when I said yes to curls. I'll come back again! Covid precautions: Call to check in before you get out of your car. There's two waivers that you'll need to fill out before you go in, stating that you don't have symptoms and haven't tested positive etc. The stylists are wearing masks and every other chair is empty. read more

This is the blonde I've been searching for my whole life! Ciara Berry is a true artist and one of the easiest people to be around. I came to her with a totally botched DIY bleach job (never again lol) and a tall order of what I wanted done. I had a very clear vision in mind for what I wanted my hair to look like -- natural-looking, light and summery (but not too warm, and not too cool like what's on trend) -- and Ciara brought it to life with her own talent and vision. She is a terrific presence, easygoing and funny, on top of giving me the best blonde of my life. I've found my colorist for life, seriously! This is hands down the best salon in Ann Arbor. Skip the so-so experience at the Aveda institute (they're alright, but still incredibly expensive which isn't worth the unprofessionalism; the gal who colored my hair there launched into an unprecedented racist life-story during the process while I was trapped in at her chair, despite my obvious discomfort and disagreement). I wanted to like this place so badly. It's close to home, cute building, and friendly staff. I've been here 3 times and today finally pushed me over the edge that I will not be returning. I went in for a trim and blowout. I informed the receptionist when I made my appointment that I have thick, curly hair and requested a hairstylist who was experienced working with my hair type. She assured my that many of their stylists were great at working with curly hair so I trusted the person she put me with. As my cut went on, my hair just kept getting frizzier and frizzier. My stylist kept tossling it and pinching apart the curls until I had a lion mane. I was mortified. But I had hope because she was planning to blow it out so I just avoided the mirror and hoped that it would be tamed. I was wrong. She had worked my hair up into such a state that even after being blown out for almost an hour it was puffy and frizzy. She used very little product and I had to prompt her both times she used it. The underside of my hair was left partially curly and looks like it was crimped because it wasn't blown out properly. My hair is normally pretty healthy and shiny. I use heat only 2 times a year at the hairdresser's and I'm pretty careful about the products I use all year round. After this, my hair looks dead and lack-luster. I rushed out of there as fast as I could and now I'm about to wash it to (hopefully) do some damage control. I'm terrified of how the cut will look given the blowout situation, but hopefully it's ok. If the stylist didn't have the time to properly blow out my hair I would have understood. I just wish she would have told me and saved me an hour and a half and some money :( I've attached a picture of the underside of my hair. Im too embarrassed to put a picture of the whole thing onto the internet. P.S. I tried to go through the proper channels and both provided some polite feedback during the blowout AND called the salon after. They would have charged $50-60 to redo the blowout. I've already spent $70 to have to wash it out, I'm not paying over $150 for a blowout and a trim :/ I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because I left satisfied on one of my three visits. I started seeing Ciara in January 2020, at the time in need of some serious TLC and repair of my damaged blonde hair. From that first appointment on, she has helped restore my overly-processed, breaking, dull hair to locks with shine and length I haven't achieved in years. More recently, she installed i-tip extensions, and I'm thrilled with the outcome. Extensions require more regular maintenance, and Ciara is always available, responsive, and flexible with scheduling upkeep appointments and answering my endless questions about anything hair- and appointment-related. It's a wonderful feeling to trust your hairstylist completely in not only talent and training, but also her eye for what works best for each individual client. Additionally, the other employees I interact with at One One Nine are always super accommodating, warm, and helpful. The salon follows full COVID-19 safety precautions, and limits the number of people in the salon by staggering appointments. I cannot say enough good things about this place and Ciara. Do you want to pay $400 for a highlight and a "haircut" with Brittany and then, when it looks NOTHING like the pictures you brought in, be gaslight by this stylist who totally ignores you as you're showing pictures of what it was supposed to look like and explaining how it's different, and THEN be charged $250 to fix the mess they made with your hair? Then absolutely set an appointment here! Also note, their policies are one sided. It's my understanding that you have two weeks from the time of service to have your hair redone complementary. Which works, if the stylist has time during those 2 weeks, but mine had "many scheduling conflicts" and ultimately I am now out the $400 and my hair looks awful. No other options were given to make the situation right, and everyone I encountered was astronomically rude. read more

Man this girl butchered me and my sons hair. The girl was nice and sweet but she had only been cutting hair for 2 years and did not know how to handle soccers properly. My kids hair is all jagged and uneven. It's kinda funny...and mines uneven in the back. I did tip her since she's new and did her best. She needs the practice.. I started coming to this salon and seeing Ciara a little over a year ago and it was the best decision I've ever made!! She is the best of the best, especially when it comes to blondes. Every-time I come in I basically just tell her to do whatever she wants to my hair because it always comes out even better than I expect. I went to have full highlights done in early September and was less than thrilled with my experience. My hair stylist was not attentive and actually kinda off putting. She mentioned that she couldn't get down to the base of the roots and didn't think she should fix a band I had in my hair from pervious coloring because my hair she was worried about damage. I let it go, trusting her judgement, but not 4 weeks out my hair looked like I hadn't been to a salon in months. I take very good care of my hair in between appointments, using purple shampoo and hair treatments, and have never been so disappointed in a highlighting session. Plus, the session cost almost $400 which is much more than I paid for the same service when I lived in Boston. I would not recommend going here. read more

Unfortunately, I had one of the worst haircuts of my life at this salon last Saturday (2/18/23). I am from Los Angleles, CA and am in MI for grad school. My stylist back home is a master at her craft and an absolute wizard at what she does. If you are ever in LA check her out, you won't be disappointed unlike this place. #hairbyannaleefiorino @annaleefiorino Cameron was the stylist that was assigned to me when I booked for a haircut since this was my first time here. I simply asked for someone who specialized in haircuts but that was clearly ignored by the receptionist at booking. When I walked in, the receptionist was kind and attentive, but it quickly went south after another stylist called in to cancel her day due to being sick. As the receptionist called clients and heard an earful from them, she would roll her eyes in the direction of the two other stylists who working working on clients, including myself at this point. There were a few verbal exchanges between the stylists and receptionist talking poorly about clients that the receptionist was calling to reschedule. This was incredibly distasteful and out of line. I understand that salons are much more relaxed than your average corporate workplace, but to talk crap about the people that pay for your paycheck is just terrible and so classless. This put the worst taste in my mouth and this is really the reason I will never give this place a second chance. It was constant talking poorly about clients and nonstop rolling of eyes and giving faces back and forth from the stylists to the receptionist. It felt like being in a high school or middle school cafeteria watching the mean girls bully others. Unacceptable behavior from adults, no excuses period. All I could think was how I was going to be talked poorly about when I left. One of the stylist's clients arrived at opening a few minutes after I did and within minutes the receptionist and two other stylists (one that included Cameron) were all talking behind this client's back and rolling their eyes because she was being "difficult"--something to do with sugar or coffee or something (not hair related at this point). When Cameron sat me down, he yanked out my ponytail and handed me my scrunchies full of ripped out hair. Not a good first step but stupidly I stayed in his seat and began to explain that I wanted long layers with face framing pieces and that I wanted a bit of movement to my hair but that I don't want to lose length. He immediately and emphatically suggested thinning/texturizing shears to which I said NO! immediately. I explained a traumatic horror story from when I was a little girl and since then I have avoided those types of techniques on my hair as they don't work and I don't like the effect they give to my hair. He insisted, however, and that should have been a huge red flag: when a stylist is so adamant about using one type of shears for a particular style it likely means they don't have the techniques to create it with regular point shears. He kept insisting and insisting and against my better judgement, I agreed but made sure to repeat to him several times to be conservative and to check in with me as he goes. Cameron assured me over and over that he wouldn't cut without checking in first. Cut to after him washing my hair, he proceeds to brush through my hair like he's brushing a mop, with complete disregard for my hair, the damage he was causing or the hairs he was ripping out. The blow dry was okay but he did manage to burn my ear. And then he gets to the thinning part which was over in about 30 seconds. In that time he managed to thin out the bottom three inches at the nape of my neck to about 50% or less of what my hair density used to be. I have my wedding in 5 weeks and my hair is ruined. It looks like I chemically treated it and half of it fell out from about mid neck down. Essentially the last 5 inches of my hair is see through. And not once did he ever check in with me about what he was doing. I had no idea how much he was taking out or what he was doing exactly to my hair after the blow dry because unlike he had agreed, he never told me what he was doing. I have a hard time understanding how taking volume and bulk from the bottom three inches at the nape of neck is supposed to translate to volume at the roots like I had asked for. If anyone else knows how that works out, please enlighten me. So now Im left with hair that looks like a helmet with wispy ends that doesn't hold a curl of any kind now since I have full density of my hair from root to about mid lengths, with the last 5-7 inches at 40-50% density. read more

Came in wanting ash blonde balayage on my hair. I have dark brown hair and told Ciara I had box color previously put on my hair. So she told me I wouldn't be able to go as light as I would like, which is understandable. Little did I know, I would be leaving with red/purple hair. And not only this, it barely is noticeable I did anything to my hair unless I am in light. So I called and spoke to the manager and all she offered was for me to come in and they can try to strip the red out. I told her I would rather just get what I asked for which was clear in the picture I showed Ciara which was blonde highlights, and if not possible then at least light brown highlights or something natural looking being that I paid $305 for this mess. They said no and that it is not possible bc I would need to be charged another $305 to get near a color I want. Also, it doesn't even look like I have reddish highlights, and more so EVERYTHING is red. After going back and forth with the manager I asked to speak to the owner, and they denied letting me speak to her. I asked three times to talk to the owner and the manager kept saying no. They said that I knew my hair would be red, and it's my fault for agreeing. If I new I would leave with red/purple hair, I would have never come in and wasted my time. In the end, I paid $305 and wasted my time just so I can damage my hair, and now I have to try to get it back to the natural color I had. Went in for a haircut after 3.5 years of hair growth. I moved to Ann Arbor and was indecisive on a salon. Hair was below my shoulder blades, and I went in for a bob haircut. Was not disappointed in making the appointment. Their secretary asked about my hair to make sure I had a stylist that would best fit what I wanted and needed. I ended up having a super nice woman named Gina. She went through in detail what I wanted done. Washed and conditioned it with a mini scalp massag. While cutting she would ask permission to do things such as thinning (I have really thick hair), texturizing, and layering. I left feeling completely taken care of, and with a style and cut I felt super comfortable with. That meant a lot to me considering I have extreme hair trust issues, thick hair, and am going through postpartum hair issues. I'm sure any stylist would be great, but I'll be continuing to go to Gina for all of my hair needs! I started seeing Amanda at the recommendation of a co-worker, after an unhappy cut from another salon (twice). After I gave the first gal a second chance to correct it, and was still not happy. Amanda fixed me up. She understood what I wanted and gave me good recommendations to get the style where I want it - now that it has to grow out a bit. A good stylist is hard to find. A great stylist is nearly impossible. Glad I listened to my co-worker. Amanda is great! The salon is small but sleek and modern. Just west of Main street on Washington - it's very easy to find. Parking structures and flat lots are just a block or two away, or street if you can find it. Super friendly reception and they carry Orbi products. Love it. read more

I NEVER write reviews but I'm so grateful for Brittany!! I came in after I botched my hair trying to dye my face frame blue. It was so embarrassing that I had been wearing a hat 24/7 up until my appointment. It was patchy and discolored and almost had a green tint to it-- not what I was going for at all. She took the time to find out exactly what I wanted before she started which a lot of places don't do. We came up with the perfect color together. She works quickly which I appreciated because I didn't want to be stuck there for hours. I cannot recommend Ciara (msberrydidmyblonde) enough. Besides being extremely professional and talented, she truly values her customers and makes sure that you're happy with the final look. After my last appointment I wasn't happy with how my highlights looked and Ciara fit me in right away and corrected the issue in an extremely kind and professional manner. (I've gone to her many times and this is the first time it happened) To me, this speaks volumes about what a fantastic stylist she is. It's always great to get the results you want, but what really counts is being able to work with your stylist if something goes wrong and not feel bad about asking them to fix/change things. 119 hair salon is in downtown Ann Arbor. It is a very modern salon. I had a bayalage done with Ciara. We discussed thoroughly the possible out comes and what I need to do in the future to get my hair the color I desire. Ciara was very helpful and a pleasure to chat with.
