I haven't had this kind of quality medical care since I was a child. It's not that I haven't had expensive health insurance in that time period... I just haven't had a kind, caring competent doctor that really cared about me as a person. OneMedical delivers on what they advertise. It IS a different experience from start to finish. Had my first appointment today for a physical and it was 100% painless. The signup process was astonishingly easy--all online--and today I didn't have to fill out a single piece of paperwork when I got there. I've never experienced such a smooth doctors office visit. When I've needed to find new doctors in the past it has been a frustrating process. It always seemed like nobody was taking new patients. The ones that were had 3-6 month waits for an appointment (I made my appointment here only 1 week out). I also hate how most doctors send you elsewhere for lab tests... One Medical took my blood immediately after my appointment in the same office! The one star reviews on here seem extreme. I'm guessing most people haven't had to deal with other doctors very much or have unrealistic expectations. They have doctors here. They take care of you. The process is simple. Entirely digital office. Not sure what there is to complain about as far as a general practitioner goes. read more

I had my second appointment and I am happy to report everything was as great as the first time. The receptionist was pleasant and my appointment started pretty close to on time. The medical practitioner I saw was extremely helpful and patient with me. She asked appropriate questions and gave some really good advice. I truly believe that she cares about my health. I am really glad I decided to give this place a try. One complaint is that the waiting room chairs sit too low for some of us who have a hard time getting up from a deep seat. read more

My opinion about One Medical in Berkeley : Beautiful contemporary furniture in the waiting room, fantastic and helpful people at the desk, excellent advertising through the mail (so glad to learn that the Company is opening new facilities in various states !!), but in terms of medical competence, it is definitely mediocre. They don't have any specialists, just general practioners who refer you to specialists, often quite far away and after you wait some time, and that they don't seem to know. I dragged for about 3 months with a problem which should have been treated in one week had I been referred to in time to the right person. I had asked to see a physiotherapist, but was directed to a neurologist instead (2 weeks of waiting before I got an appointment) who eventually referred me to a physiotherapist as I had originally asked for. The physiotherapist cured me in 3 days. Three months of great dicomfort instead of a week, due to lack of competence and poor knowledge of facilities in the area. Thank you, One Medical. This is a very, very average medical clinic. The Berkeley office also mentions in their brochure a phone number which can be called around the clock in case of a problem. This number turned out to be of no help when I found myself in an emergency situation at 1 am. Nobody at the end of the line. One Medical is not Number One. read more

Having had two preventive health doctor parents, I generally like to stay as far away from doctors, hospitals, and clinics as possible ("an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure..."). But a recent slew of some minor, some possibly major medical issues required me to find a patient (no pun intended), caring, and committed physician to investigate and work through these with me. I found such help at the One Medical clinic in Berkeley with Dr. Brett London but really also with all of the telephone advice and administrative staff I've dealt with there. The extra convenience, comfort, and expert counsel I receive from this One Medical is worth a whole lot more than whatever extra small health cost I might incur. read more

8 minutes late to my appointment and they cancelled on me. When my wife came last month they had her waiting for more than 10 minutes after her scheduled appointment time. They don't see this as a double standard? I'm pushing my company to drop them as a benefit. read more

I'm so mad about my experience with this office, I'm writing a month after my visit. I was new to my insurance coverage so I have no regular doctor. No one would see me for a terrible flu so I was looking for groups who took urgent appointments. I got an appointment at One Medical the same day which was amazing. I saw a very helpful nurse practitioner for 10 minutes - no tests, nothing in depth. The bill was $485 dollars!! $485 to see a nurse practitioner for 10 minutes!!!! God willing, I only have to pay the $30 copay but I'm living in fear that I will be responsible for more. However, no matter what, I think that type of billing is completely and totally irresponsible and the reason why healthcare in this country is going downhill fast. Completely unacceptable. read more

My husband and I decided to join One Medical several years ago when our PCP of many years retired. We loved her and her NP but it was often hard to get an appt and the front desk person was rude and impatient. We often had to wait for long periods of time before we were brought to a clinic room where (of course,) we just waited some more for the practitioner to come. I was not prepared to like One Medical much as I was just expecting another version of the norm in the Western medical setting. We LOVE One Medical! This is a really classy organization. The front desk is very friendly. We have seen 4 different MDs at this location and they all seemed entirely competent. Most of them are warm and personable. Now almost the best part..... You are usually taken to your room by the ACTUAL practitioner who is seeing you within 5 minutes or so of arriving. So what they have managed to do, is schedule patients as if our time is valuable. As I am a practitioner, I know that this is possible. I do not want people waiting more than 10 minutes for their appt to begin, so I schedule to try and make this happen. I think that your standard Western medicine offices book super tightly to avoid any possible down time and therefore you inevitably have to wait 1/2 hour or 45 minutes minimum to actually be seen and then usually without any apology. We also have seen a PA and a Nurse Practitioner at One Medical who also seemed entirely competent and were warm and personable. They of course, accept most insurances. The practitioners are in contact with you by email very readily. When I have emailed a few times with questions, the response time is completely reasonable. We are just super happy with them and applaud One Medical for what they are doing. They are an anomaly in the Western medical world. Elizabeth and Nestor read more

Most painless and efficient doctor's visit ever. The reception desk has friendly staff and the waiting area is silent and peaceful. Unlike other primary care places, the visit wasn't rushed and stressful. Medical history was actually recorded by the doctor herself and not some pea-brained medical assistant with only a pulse and four limbs as her/his only credit. During this time, the doctor went through medical history systematically, asked questions and actually listened to the answers, and then conducted the medical exam throughly. She also explained why she recommended a couple of follow-up tests and made sure I realized they would be nice to have albeit not super urgent. Their customer service is excellent and most timely. I would highly recommended this service. read more

Not much to rate One Medical on, as I never made it past the front desk. My appointment was cancelled at reception when I arrived two minutes (no exaggeration) past my scheduled time. I understand that medical care providers are busy and their time is valuable, but from a business perspective I would expect a little flexibility especially from a group priding itself on making healthcare more accessible. I was unable to schedule another appointment within a reasonable time frame to accommodate a 9-5 working schedule. Disappointing to say the least. I will be continuing my search for a local physician elsewhere. read more

This is a wonderful and extraordinarily functional doctor's office and I just love going here. The staff is extremely friendly and down-to-earth and I've never experienced any significant wait time or unpleasant interactions. The doctor I've been seeing is Guriner Singh Wadhwa, and he is super easy going and fun to talk to. I have no idea how this place has any bad reviews, I guess some people have to find fault in everything. I will keep going to One Medical for as long as I can! read more

I have been searching for a medical practice that took the time to really listen to patients and advise them about multiple options. I finally found it. I saw Dr. Emily Caro-Bruce and got the collaborative assessment and plan that I needed. Office staff has also been attentive and responsive. They can make or break a practice. I signed up at the Berkeley location, and was told at the time that I would be assigned a female doctor (which is what I requested), but when I showed up for my yearly physical, I was greeted by a female nurse. Actually, I'm not sure if she was even a nurse. I later learned there was only one doctor working out of the Berkeley location and he's a he. The "nurse" had zero bedside manner, and from what I could tell, she was completely bored with her job there. She barely examined me. She actually didn't even get out of her chair the entire time. She asked me to get on the scale and read my weight to her so she wouldn't have to get up. Then she told me I should come back for a blood draw because the lab was closed for the day. Needless to say, I have not gone back. I actually got better service and attention from my doctor when I went to Kaiser in Oakland. I thought that was impersonal and inadequate. A few weeks after my appointment, I got an email from the nurse that examined me, saying she was leaving One Medical to take a job elsewhere. I'm still not sure it's safe to go back. I'm definitely not renewing my membership after that experience. One star for One Medical. read more

great medical team and staff, been a member for over a year. once i was even contacted outside regular office hours--at 8 pm no less--by a physician from One Medical in Honolulu because my doctor couldn't reach me and it was urgent that i be seen the next day and admitted to a hospital because of my condition. and it's great that i could also go to any of the three clinics near my work in downtown SF and get the same quality of care. read more

I never even made it to membership, but I'm so annoyed that I'm driven to write something on yelp. I was interested in the Berkeley office and saw that they did not have any MDs accepting new patients, although they did have two nurse practitioners taking new patients. I called to ask questions. First question, do they have parking? NO. Just street parking. I live in Berkeley, I'm familiar with Shattuck Avenue, and I know that metered parking is hard to find. Also, what happens if you end up needing more than an hour? OK, I could deal with that. So I politely asked how it would work if I were to join, but preferred to see an MD. The woman on the phone then adopted a shaming tone, and said, "Well that's a shame [her word - in other words, shame on me] because nurse practitioners are "exactly the same," and the care they give is "exactly the same," as medical doctors. Uh, no. They're not the same. Or they'd all be MDs. Which is not to discredit the good general care a NP can give. But I have diabetes and try to manage it tightly, and prefer someone who specializes. So I tried again. Could I get on a waiting list to see an MD? NO. Uh, what happens when a patient leaves the practice? Doesn't a spot open up? At this point she took on her preachiest and snarkiest voice yet, and said, "NO, once a panel closes, it never reopens." I see. I find that rather unlikely. But I thanked her for her time and hung up. This woman chastised me for making an inquiry. This woman tried very hard to make me feel bad for knowing what I want, and making a decision about my own medical care. Wow. Does that in any way represent what care is like at One Medical? I don't know, but apparently there is NO way to find out. read more
