I went to see Dr Womack-Batzdorf after my primary care physician was unable to make a scheduled appt. I needed to see someone before the next appt with my Dr was available, as I was having some medical issues that needed immediate attention. She was dismissive, uncaring, without any compassion or empathy. As one other reviewer here wrote, it was like talking to a wall. At one point, I held back from asking if I had offended her in some way, but I don't think I did, I was answering all of her questions and would have been HAPPY to get some support and help with my condition. Her total lack of empathy left me feeling like the appt was a total imposition for her. My 2 issues were clearly stated in my appt request and with the person who made the appt with her, and she seemed irritated to have to deal with 2 issues, not just a single issue. Both needed attention, and she wanted to move on quickly because she didn't seem to have the time or desire to explain what she thought might be happening. I walked out with referrals, which is appreciated, but I will never go back to her, and I would warn anyone who wants someone with a listening and compassionate ear to steer clear. I mentioned that I was scared, and she didn't even take a moment to address that fear, either to confirm it or allay any fears. No thanks, never returning to her care. read more

This is the worst doctor I have ever been to. she's completely incompetent and it was really scary I ended up in the ER . She didn't read my chart and completely missed a pretty life-threatening issue. Just kept telling me to eat chicken soup. Dr. Womack is the worst primary care physician I have ever worked with, hands down. She would frequently arrive to meetings late, cut them off early, and would insist on scheduling multiple appointments to bill the maximum amount possible to insurance. In every visit, she would coach the nurse and tell me that she would not be able to address all of the issues I brought up. She would get curt, short, impatient and would often be very dismissive of many serious health issues. In many instances, she would refuse to respond, engage, or write letters on my behalf, refusing to accommodate disabilities. She would often couch her email responses in fluffy wellness language, with quotes at the end, with email sign offs like 'Caring Intentionally' to follow messages where she refused to provide care. On many lab results, she would clearly copy and paste a template response that made it very clear she did not read the results and was not concerned about their products. She would talk about 'allergic spikes' for blood sugar tests and switch the type and format of tests without explaining why or how this was done. Avoid this physician at all costs. Sutter works with many who care and who are present and prioritize their patients' financial stability. Dr. Womack-Batzdorff is not one of them. read more

My wife and I have had Dr. Womack-Batzdorf as our primary care physcian for 3 years, across around 10 visits. The good points: she's organized, respectful, and very professional. She consistently asks if I have questions or additional concerns. The disappointing points: it's very rare that she asks questions to deepen her understanding of my overall health or my specific concerns. She appears confident, but has confidently made at least 4 misdiagnoses. She's an unfortunate stereotype of very quick appointments with treatments that almost always involve writing a prescription. Example: I asked about an itchy patch which persisted on my ankle, which she glanced (and I mean glanced) at before declaring "fungal", and pointing me to a cream which did nothing. The dermatologist had a much different diagnosis. Another: my wife has had persistent numbness for years in one of her fingers. Dr. Womack-Batzdorf perscribed a strong medication for those with nervous system issues. My wife got a 2nd opinion from a neuromuscular specialists who quickly identified a pinched nerve bundle in her shoulder. With massage, stretching, and some simply physical therapy she has no numbness and greater range of motion. The common denominator in these experiences seems to be: Dr. W-B is either unaware she's out of her realm of expertise, or she's incentivized not to refer to a specialist. We're actively looking for someone with better training and/or different incentives. read more

Dr. Womack-Batzdorf is kind, patient, and knowledgeable. She has been my PCP for almost four years, and anytime I have a concern or questions, she ensures that I get a response. She has been patient with me when I couldn't articulate my needs as well as I would have liked. She took moments of pause, and her support and guidance for my health did not go unnoticed. Her office is busy, but what can you expect from a working physician :). I appreciate her and her team; they ALL try to do their best every time I visit. read more

There's no doubt that Dr. Womack is a busy woman but you wouldn't know it sitting in her exam room. She has a calming, reassuring bedside manner in the way she's able to get right to the point about your medical care but, at the same time, carry on a conversation like you're old friends just catching up. It truly feels like Dr. Womack really cares. She provided me unsolicited advice regarding overall health, including SPF recommendations, and reading material on proper body scans. Sadly, my experience with Stacy is all too similar to the many negative reviews about her. The entire practice (specifically Samantha Malm & Stacy Batzdorf) is filled with incompetence with the exception of the NP. ZERO bedside manner, very dismissive of your ailments and doesn't communicate to boot. I would not waste me time with this practice. I came in with an acute situation that needed immediate life/death attention- Stacy was the only provider available that day. Was sent to the ER through Sutter (which was another cluster mess that I will leave for a different review). The lack of communication & professionalism toward their colleagues as well as the patient was unbelievable. It could just be a Sutter East Bay thing because once I called in my case to the real professionals at CPMC/UCSF I was seen STAT and not denied life saving diagnostics in a timely manner. Do yourself a favor and RUN as fast as you can from this clinic, especially Stacy & Samantha. read more

I have never given a negative review to a doctor but not warning others of Dr. Womack would be a misdeed to society. I went to her for severe upper abdominal and back pain, which now seeing several doctors at ER I know is pretty clear signs of gallbladder issues. Dr. Womack barely pressed my abdomen and after specifically asking her about whether it could be gallbladder issue, she dismissed it. 10 days later I landed in ER with excruciating abdominal pain. I got a gall bladder full of stones and pancreatitis. I avoided a serious mishap as I was supposed to catch a flight the next day. If Dr. Womack would've diagnosed it right, sent me to GI, or asked me to do an ultrasound this emergency situation could've been avoided. Hands down the worst doctor I have come across with. read more

I am so disappointed in my experience with Dr. Womack. I've never in my life written a Yelp review, or any online review, but this felt necessary. I walked away from this appointment feeling tragic and hopeless about the training and attitudes of our healthcare professionals. Dr. Womack didn't make much eye contact or seem very concerned/interested in the concerns I presented to her. She skipped over a lot of what I said, and didn't respond with questions for details on health events. When repeating my information back as she heard it, it was clear that she hadn't been attentive during our meeting. When she shined her light in my mouth, she asked if I see the dentist twice a year, and said that if I don't see a dentist twice per year I'll be stuck eating liquid food when I'm older which is "even more difficult for a vegetarian". The routine physical I went to her for involved a pap smear. Before even performing it, she mentioned cervical cancer multiple times. This is upsetting bedside manner! It's not appropriate to perform a screening for abnormal cells in the cervix and to, without even knowing the results, induce fear in a new patient about cancer. There were many other interactions that made Dr. Womack seem to lack compassion, be condescending, and more interested in the authority she gains as a doctor than the genuine concern for humans. I truly hope this was an off day, and that she doesn't treat patients with more serious health concerns in the same manner. I won't see her again. Be warned ! read more

After reading 5-star Yelp reviews for a new primary that was recommended by a friend, I decided to just peak at Dr. Womack's ratings. I was validated to see that I am in good company with my negative (shaming, condescending, cold, judgmental?) experience of Dr. Womack in the two meetings I've had. There was little room for real dialogue; the simple back and forth of question-response or weighing out options. It was as if she was annoyed by my having anything to say...or ask...or wonder about. As others have said, I left the meeting feeling humiliated and confused by her tone, which I would call hostile. She did order some tests for me, which was helpful, and she expressed concern by way of asking me to schedule a follow-up visit (for more of the same). Before Dr. W, I'd met with another doc in the practice who wasn't quite as hostile, but spent the whole meeting looking at her computer screen. Sadly, my doc of many years retired quite a while ago and her predecessor moved to a different medical group. In defense of all doctors, I will say that I know the era of managed care is a crappy world to practice in, so I think (many) doctors feel overwhelmed, demoralized and, well, pissed that they are not compensated well enough to pay off their med. school loans. I do have compassion for their predicament, but that's not an excuse for utter rudeness and leaving patients feeling worse than when they arrived. read more

She took into careful consideration my family's health records and made sure that my eating as well as exercise habits tended to these histories. I'm leaving this review on behalf of my husband, who wasted a pretty exposed, humiliating hour without ever meeting Dr. Womack-Batzdorf. My husband checked in for his appointment 15 minutes early. He was taken to an exam room on time and told to change into a paper robe. He sat in the paper robe for 45 minutes--no doctor, and not one person came to check on him. He finally got dressed and asked what was going on at the front desk. They had no idea where the doctor was! Doctors run late. No big deal, it happens. The puzzling thing is that Dr. Womack-Batzdorf had tons of openings when we made the appointment online less than 2 days prior on a Saturday. Even if her appointments did fill up over the course of Sunday, how does a doctor disappear without anyone knowing her whereabouts? How can you leave a patient hanging without a word for 45 minutes dressed in nothing more than a piece of paper? read more

Avoid this doctor if you can, she is not caring. To her an examination is to look at your ears, eyes, and throat, maybe listen to your chest. She has no idea how to act - wearing fancy clothing and hair do's seem more important than being a doctor to her. She does not listen to you, so conversation is lost - she will not answer you if you ask a question, totally rude. She has misdiagnosed so many times. She gives out internet info that I could have got for myself. She has eternal availability because she doesn't seem to have many patients. Wonder why? read more

I think Dr. Womack-Batzdorf is an outstanding MD and is the perfect GP for my husband and me. She makes herself available when needed, is almost always on time (unheard for for most MDs as the hours go by each day) and is thorough and accurate in her diagnosis. She immediately follows up with any prescriptions needed and thoroughly documents results and action items in the Sutter online tool. Dr. Womack-Batzdorf is efficient and direct and therefore, I can understand how that may rub some people the wrong way (based on the reviews here.). If you want an MD that's going to console you and spend time talking to you about your day, your kids etc.. this is not the MD for you (to be clear, I'm not putting this down, I think many people need this and so just recognize that and go elsewhere). If you're like me (a person that balances being a mom, wife and tech exec each day) and you need speed, quality and efficiency - this is the MD for you. read more

Pros: -I was able to secure an appointment with her on very short notice, which is generally pretty difficult to do. -Reasonable wait and limited paperwork. -Based on my description of my symptoms while scheduling my appointment, she had a list of questions ready - which was encouraging. She also printed out a WebMD-esque handout which explained my (alleged) condition in greater detail. -She seems fairly knowledgeable! Cons: -While she thanked me for being proactive, inquisitive, and comprehensive in describing my symptoms, she was rather rude and impatient. While I understand that I'm not the only patient on her clipboard, I'm 1. paying through my nose for medical care, and 2. rightfully concerned about my health - and the least that she can do, as a well-compensated physician, is to take the time to be thorough, caring, and invested in my health. -I'm trying not to sound too indignant, but the nurse and receptionist were also somewhat apathetic and disinterested. read more

I went to this doctor because my primary, Eric Smith, retired. Her bedside manner was uncaring, unsympathetic, & indifferent to my concerns. She is defensive if you ask her a question. Although I am sure Dr. Batzdorf is great with certain patients, I do not recommend her if you are in a woman in a fragile health position and are looking for a solution to a long term health issue - she is emotionally a bit cold and unfamiliar with your situation (although I had visited her consistently with the same symptoms over the course of 6 months!). I never left feeling like anything had happened or been probed during our appointments, and was consistently told that I was making the symptoms out to be more than they actually were. My last appointment (220$ on my insurance bill) consisted of a few questions, her impatient responses that assumed my pain was not real, and as frustrated tears sprang to my eyes at yet another failed attempt to end the issue I have been having- she asked "are you going to cry?" in such a way that I felt ashamed and even worse. I have to chime in with the negative reviews here. Stacy Batzdorf is not the doctor for you if you're looking for bedside manner and an explanation for your symptoms. I found her rather indifferent and just eager to get the appointment over with. She is not sympathetic and will make you second guess your symptoms. My third and last appointment with her was late by 10 mins and I was in the waiting room 20 mins earlier than my confirmed appointment time. They apparently called my name when I stepped out to get a drink of water. Stacy Batzdorf then gave me a lecture on how she runs a tight ship and expected patients to stay busy waiting for her appointments and how if i didn't like her "tight ship" i could see another doctor. Well, I did just that. I got cured from the ailment she just could not diagnose (over three appointments) because she lacked judgement of asking for relevant scans and labs. Please do not visit this doctor and the tight ship she claims to run. read more

Presumably Sutter East Bay Medical Foundation physicians are state-licensed, and board certified (she is not). Board certification signifies willingness and ability to heal! Patients of all ages need communication and accessibility on the part of their so-called primary care physician. Womack-Batzdorf is rude, hostile, indifferent, inaccessible and uncommunicative. And not too knowledgeable, either! She should not be allowed to claim the PCP role nor to treat elders (senior citizens, over 65's, the aged, whatever.) read more

Going to see Dr. Batzdorf was an experience that left me feeling pretty down on the healthcare system. I went to her for a yearly physical (although it had been 2 years for me), and she spent all of 10 minutes with me. Neither she, nor her assistant, did not take any basic vitals (e.g. she didn't listen to my heart, she didn't look in my eyes or ears, she didn't swab my tongue, nothing). There was also no discussion whatsoever about my life, from my personal, sexual, emotional, social life at all! She whisked me out of the room and told me to come back another day for bloodwork as I'd need to fast. (Not sure why no one told me this prior, but hey). I went back for my blood tests the next day. She promised she would write descriptions and 'what it means' on my lab results that would be emailed to me. Not so- I got the results back with no more context than a 'this is the average range'. No note, not personalization, no meaningful context whatsoever. The problem here is that there was NO care in any of this. No guidance, no emotion, no investment whatsoever in my health. I'm very surprised by the negative reviews I've read here concerning Dr. Womack-Batzdorf. I couldn't disagree more. My husband and I recently moved to the area. We're over 50 and have several prescriptions that must not lapse (blood pressure, etc.), so I started looking around for a new primary care doctor on our insurance plan. Due to the negative reviews here, I contemplated going with a different doctor, but a registered nurse recommended Dr. Womack-Batzdorf, and I decided to trust the nurse's opinion. I was pleased to be able to get a first appointment within only a week and a half. I found the telephone staff and office staff to be friendly and competent. Our insurance isn't one of the big names, and they did the work to make sure the appointment was properly covered. The nurse was sweet and careful, retaking my blood pressure manually when the machine's reading turned out to be pretty high. The clinic was pleasant, light-filled, and very clean. And Dr. Womack-Batzdorf was not only thoughtful, engaging, and considerate, she was also personable and warm. She spent a lot of time with my patient history to make sure she understood the ways my chronic conditions might be overlapping and my medications interacting, and she is putting in the referrals to bring my routine tests up to date. Her approach with medication was conservative, which I appreciated: we may need to alter one of my blood pressure medications or augment that treatment with another medication, but she wants to try lifestyle changes first. She asked me if I think I can lose weight, and I said yes, so she gave me a concrete goal to work toward: four pounds in six weeks, and we'll check the blood pressure again. I didn't find Dr. Womack-Batzdorf to be in the least haughty or annoyed at questions. She didn't try to rush me, either. I asked lots of questions, and she answered all of them honestly and carefully. And I found her to be well-informed and up on the latest study data, and willing to listen to a patient's input, too. For instance, she was supportive of my taking evening primrose oil to manage my migraines and even noted the brand I always take. (As the news reports have been telling us, not all herbal supplements contain the strength, or even the ingredients, that they claim to have.) My impression is that Dr. Womack-Batzdorf is a very intelligent person who very much wants what is best for her patients' health. And honestly, that may be part of the problem with some of these negative reviews. What a patient wants and what is best for a patient may be two very different things. Some patients don't want to make lifestyle changes. Some patients want more symptom-relieving medication than is good for their health. My impression is that Dr. Womack will not try to make friends with a patient at the expense of that patient's health. She will put health first, even if that means upsetting the patient by doing things like suggesting (as she did with me) weight loss or other lifestyle changes. And that may put her on some patients' bad side. Other than that, I'm at a loss for a reason for the sort of character assassination I'm seeing in these reviews. It really makes no sense to me. Dr. Womack was everything a doctor should be during my lengthy visit with her, and I'm looking forward to working with her toward a goal of better health. read more

Grow up people. You want Mommy to hold your hand and tell you it's gonna all be better or do you want medical care? If it's the latter, you'll be happy with Dr. Womack Batzdorf. She knows what she's doing, she's attentive to any issues you bring up, solution oriented, and she gets you in and out of her office quickly--which some people actually appreciate. If you want small talk, the receptionist is very nice and will usually engage you in friendly conversation if there's nobody in line. I'd prefer a doctor who cares deeply about doing her job well to one that manages to pretend to care a little bit about me and the mundane details of my life for 15 minutes every few months. read more

I was in great pain and distress due to having urinary "urgency" and a mysterious pain on my side. It was Friday afternoon and my regular doctor had already left. However, Dr. Batzdorf had an opening. I found Dr. Batzdorf to be extremely knowledgeable. She got right to the point and diagnosed me right away. She prescribed the medication that zapped my bladder infection, and after a thorough examination, reassured me about the side pain. I've seen this doctor 3 times, each visit has been worse than the last. Dr. Womack's attitude and general demeanor is NOT "no nonsense" but actually very insensitive and unprofessional." Went in for severe shoulder pain. Not clear the origin of pain. She proceeded to do some tests, mostly to check for range of motion. She then told me she would refer me to a physical therapist. Great, I thought as I do feel physical therapy can help but I really wanted to make sure that there isn't anything else going on, such as a tear or calcium buildup. She told me, "So you want to see an orthopedist for pain you've had for the last two weeks?" I had just explained to her that I think this is an old injury, possibly from years ago and that my shoulder started acting out more 4-6 months ago but that the severe pain just started 2 weeks ago. She then said in a brash way(not a no nonsense way), "okay, I'll put the order in and let you deal with your insurance company. " wow. I couldn't believe she said this, but I thank her because now I know for sure that she is not my doctor. I highly discourage anyone from seeing this doctor. Turns out that my shoulder pain was from two tears that required surgery. Glad I didn't doubt myself and went to a specialist after all. read more

I saw Dr. Batzdorf for an infection on my finger, near the nail. She gave me very good care for this: numbed the area, lanced it with a scalpel to give the fluid a path to drain, and took the extra step to have it cultured to be sure the antibiotic was the right one. Then followed-up with an email once the lab work came back to reassure me that all was good. Overall, I was very impressed with the care she gave me, and her exam-room manner was great. She was super nice, and seemed very smart. I highly recommend her. read more

My first visit to Dr. Batzdorf was on an emergency basis for a fairly serious and painful wound, and I had never seen her before. My insurance company recommended her and I said OK. I was very, very impressed by her. She cleaned up my wound, complimented me on how well I had handled caring for it myself, and gave me great advice for further treatment. I proceeded to have my annual physical with her. I was equally impressed by her thoughtful and knowledgeable approach, and by her good advice and followup to some questions I had following some tests that were done. Since then, I have referred several people to her and all have been equally well impressed by her skill and her bedside manner over the course of several visits. It's hard to find a good physician these days and I'm very happy with Dr. Batzdorf! read more

Have recently switched primary care to Dr Stacy Womack-Batzdorf of the Sutter East Bay Medical group in Berkeley, after watching this physician interact with my sister as an on call physician. At that time I was impressed, and later selected her for myself. As an RN, I can't be more impressed. She is an excellent diagnostician, excellent communicator, and has a fantastic bedside manner. She listened. she communicated her thoughts, asked appropriate questions, and discussed treatment options. She involved me in her treatment plan and advocated for me in obtaining authorization for a less traditional treatment option. Am extremely pleased. read more

I saw her today for a med refill. I am in healthcare and found her bedside manner kind of bizarre. She didn't introduce herself, focused on the computer the whole time, and then said to me she was going to step out for a minute and review my records. Well she never came back. The MA came into the room with my RX and discharge papers and told me I was done and could go home. I said "are you sure?" and she said "I am sure, she has moved on to her next patient". Weird! I am very sad to participate in warning others about this office. I went in for a routine check up as I live in Africa and only spend a few weeks back in the states. I mentioned that I had a sore throat which was due to allergies. She said that is not a common symptom for allergies and that I should get a strep test. I did, was then ushered out before I received my results, and later received a huge bill for the service. She told me they were out of two of the vaccines I needed and that one of them was not covered by my insurance. Then 20 min later I was receiving one of them as it was suddenly and inexplicably available. I called my insurance later that day and she was wrong, it is covered. She also said she could not look at my moles and that I would need to go to a dermatologist. This is odd to me since the last mole I had removed was done by my general practitioner. My stomach issues were a mystery to her, and she could send me to a gastro specialist. Overall I left the appointment with a ton of referrals for no reason and no actual answers or exams. She was nice enough, but I would prefer someone who was more present, answered my questions and didn't just send me to a million doctors for additional services I didn't need. read more

I went to Dr. Batzdorf a few times and each time I felt like she did not care for me at all. She was very abrupt and almost rude at times. I went to her looking for answers and instead felt like she was accusing me of making up symptoms because she has a way of making you second guess your symptoms. Dr. Batzdorf does not act enthusiastic at all about meeting her patients, isn't very friendly, nor sympathetic. I went to her for three different issues, and each of those three times I left her office feeling as if nothing had been resolved, I had been judged for being sick in the first place, and just overall frustrated at the lack of care. The third and last time I went to Dr. Batzdorf was last week. I had been used to her lack of bedside manners but found myself actually afraid to tell her about my symptoms because she acts judgy... and then it occurred to me, I SHOULD NOT HAVE A PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN WHO I DO NOT TRUST. After all, my well being and health are at stake and that shouldn't be compromised, especially when there are so many great other primary care and internal medicine doctors at Sutter Health. read more

Absolutely worst. I went in for a physical, and almost NOTHING was checked. Then, I turned in vaccination forms for law school TWO WEEKS, TWO WEEKS before I needed them. I repeat, TWO WEEKS, before the deadline. I called in the Friday before they were due. I called in TWICE the Friday before they were due. I was told it was "high priority" for Monday. Monday, being, the day that my forms were DUE. If you don't turn in these forms on time your spot in the class is in jeopardy. Knowing this, I had given my forms extremely early. I got a tiding for a vaccination I couldn't find the recording for. I called in several times on Monday, the day my forms were due. And guess what, today is TUESDAY, and my forms have still not been signed. I spent 45 minutes on hold trying to talk to ANYONE who has any authority over the forms and they are all unavailable to speak to me. Not only does this show incredible unprofessionalism, but also a complete disregard for patients. Now, though I was early and did everything according the book, I am in danger of losing my seat in school, as well as my tuition deposit, housing deposit, etc all because this doctor could not take the two seconds (it literally takes two seconds) to sign one form. The staff I spoke to were mostly rude (with the exception of Jessica who was trying her best to help), and truly acted like they couldn't care less. They didn't record my fax number, didn't help with the deadline information and were extremely short with me even though I was extremely polite when I spoke to them on Friday and on Monday. I do not recommend this doctor if you are looking for timely, efficient results and a certain esteem and respect for patients. read more
