8/2/25: 2.5 Stars. I'd skip this place. The Viking needs to revamp their restaurant food and dated interior decor. Please see photos for food and decor. We made reservations for Saturday evening at 7:00 PM. Initially, we had been sitting up on their rooftop bar for drinks. (Actually, we should've stayed up there and just had drinks and appetizers for dinner). We walked in and the entire dining room was empty. Our female server was very nice. The four of us started out with cauliflower bites. They were just fair. 4 Entrees - (Me) Caesar salad $14 with Grilled Shrimp $19 ($36) was just okay. The shrimp was overcooked . - Lemon Chicken $29- Could've been much better. - Braised Short Rib $45- Too fatty. - Portuguese Cod $27 - We finally have a Winner! As we were leaving the restaurant, we didn't see anyone in the dining room. We only saw two people sitting at the bar. Parking is available on the street and the hotel offers valet parking. We stayed at the Hotel Viking and went for a light dinner at the One Bellevue restaurant. The service was excellent! The wait staff were very attentive and accommodating. We went with my 2 year old baby niece and it was her birthday that day and thyme made sure to make her feel special with a surprise birthday cheesecake. They also provided her with coloring set and made sure she was comfortable and got everything she needed. We ordered the vegan butternut bisque, margarita flatbread, French fries, buttermilk chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. I had the chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and it was really tasty and the fries complimented the sandwich well. The chicken sandwich had a hint of blackened seasoning and was a bit over-seasoned but I think this can be the norm in Rhode Island since it's the second restaurant I've ordered from and noticed the over seasoning. I liked it in this restaurant though. The ambiance was beautiful. We sat all the way in the back and it was decorated with florals and was more quiet than sitting ear the lobby. read more

The Hotel Viking offers a lovely experience in their restaurant called One Bellevue. We chose the Newport restaurant week to check it out. They had a handful of entrees available with an appetizer and dessert for $45 per person. I selected the butternut bisque for my first course followed by a fabulous Cajun Salmon which had the most flavorful glaze. Served over wild rice garnished with fresh seasonal vegetables. My husband opted for the winter vegan salad before his entree , the short rib special. He couldn't stop raving how tender and succulent his dish was that I nearly snapped a picture before it was half way devoured. Dessert was an Apple crosstata which basically was a petite Apple puff pastry. Our server Maureen was a sheer delight and made our evening quite enjoyable. read more

Service was not good, but when they talked to us they were nice. We got there at 8 and didn't get our entrees until 10pm but after asking to be served. We had about 7 different people come to our table. The food was good but not worth the price and bad service. By the time we ate at 10 pm we weren't even that hungry. Then they cleaned the restaurant and turned off the lights telling us we could sit and "hang out". Everyone who came after us got their food before us but also seemed bothered. We waited for the check in the dark room because they turned off the lights. So weird. At least they brought a bottle of champagne as an apology (because we asked). read more

Randomly picked One Bellevue restaurant for dinner because it shows up on top of my Resy apps. It's located in the Viking Hotel. Both the restaurant and the hotel looks and feels very cozy. I would definitely consider staying here if I visit Newport again. We ordered 3 foods: 1) Burrata Strawberry Salad - surprisingly very good! 2) Scampi Pasta - one of the better pasta I have in the last 5 years. I would recommend this picture 3) Seared Scallops - nice plump fresh Scallop. On top of bed of corns, edamame, and purple cauliflower purée Overall, we had great food, great service, and great experience at One Bellevue. Definitely will repeat. read more

I've been fortunate enough to enjoy afternoon tea in a variety of different locations including London and New York. One of my favorite locations is in Denver at the Brown Palace Hotel and they charge almost the same price but One Bellevue is not even comparable. I hate to leave a lower review but this was one of the worst tea services I have ever had, especially considering how much I paid for it. It was disorganized, with poor service and just okay food. The tea was delicious which is why I gave it two stars. Specifics: 1. We were seated and waited 25 minutes for someone to come over for our tea order. Then it was like an infomercial for the tea company. Our server took an excruciatingly long time explaining what the teas were instead of just letting us order. 2. It was 45 minutes before our food was delivered. When we asked about it our server said she knew it was a problem and relating it's an ongoing issue. 3. On to the food itself. This is something I've never seen before and I've had a lot of afternoon tea. The food was not divided equally for each person. So there were not an even number of tea sandwiches. And the scones were cut into quarters instead of everyone having their own. The top layer of desserts were just a mix instead of everyone having one of each so we had to cut the tiny desserts in order to try some of each. The sandwiches were just okay, nothing spectacular but definitely not worth the price of a $49 tea. All in all this was profoundly disappointing and after I paid for six people plus a prepaid gratuity, I feel I didn't get my money's worth at all. I would never recommend this restaurant for tea at all and wish I would have read the other reviews before I went. read more

Although there were lots of places to enjoy an afternoon tea in Newport, I chose One Bellevue basically because it was in the hotel where we were staying. It seemed really understaffed. There were only 6 couples dining, yet we had to wait 15 minutes before being eeorted to our table (which sat on top of a heating vent. We did not mind it today since it was cold and gloomy out, but would have been very uncomfortable if it was sunny). Eventually it did become unbearable hot. Like another reviewed stated, they took forever explaining the tea (which was completely wrong information, btw). For instance, there was a white tea that she said was a chamomile. It seems there was a rea expert there, but that is not the person we got. She was obviously making stuff up. There were only 6 teas to choose from, unlike the menu which listed 8 different teas. The food was subpar - most seemed to be prepackaged items I could buy at costco. They had "profiteroles" which were basically croissants with a squirt of cream cheese and shredded cucumber (no herbs) inside. I have a wheat allergy, so I confirmed in advance that I will need accommodations. They replaced the cucumber "profiterole" with hummus sandwiches, which were ok, but the sweet items were replaced with store bought mini chocolate chip cookies (think Chips Ahoy) and nasty "wedding cookies". They also gave me chocolate cups (which were inedibly bitter). The rest was filled with fruit, berries and many flowers to make it look as full as the regular tea plates. No GF scones either. Never again will I chose a place without reading reviews first. read more

Not worth the visit. All the food is extremely subpar, and the ambiance was nothing special in comparison to other boutique hotels' dining rooms. The service was good, but our server made a pretty major mistake of ringing us up for the a different table's bill. Not sure how she did that when there were maybe only 3 parties dining at the restaurant including ourselves. Luckily for them, we had a reservation, so they called us asking to authorize being billed the correct amount, which was about $100 more. If we were just a walk-in party, they definitely would've had to eat the cost. read more

What better way to ring in my 24th birthday than with a fabulous brunch at One Bellevue at the Hotel Viking?! Amid the super classy yet comfortable setting, my family and friends enjoyed an excellent meal on Thursday morning, and even though this was my first time coming to One Bellevue for brunch, it certainly won't be the last! The restaurant is the anchor of the swanky and historic Hotel Viking on Newport's famed Bellevue Avenue, and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day to hungry guests and Newporters alike! That's right! We decided to play tourist and settle into a comfy banquette to brunch our hearts out! The dining room is done up in classic Newport elegance, with calming blue walls and white furniture. I had to jet off to work afterward, but I hadn't a thought of that as I was lulled into relaxation by the serene surroundings. It's absolutely lovely! The menu is small but offers a range of sweet and savory selections, from oatmeal served with seasonal fruit and brown sugar to a fancy avocado toast topped with shaved radish, feta, and sprouts. I opted for a simple egg white omelet, which was stuffed with fresh veggies and gooey cheddar cheese. While it was a wonderful and healthy start to my day, I did think it was a little pricy at $14. Others enjoyed their meals immensely as well. I have my sights set on a delectable looking smoked salmon platter next time! While everything about our meal was great, the highlight of the day was our server, Hyechong. She was excellently prompt, witty, and fun, and really made the morning memorable. Dinner here was nothing short of Amazing ! I'm not usually a big scallop fan but these scallops were so delicious. Beyond what I expected... our dinner this evening was all prearranged and the choices were great as well. Just the perfect sized portions and all came out with great timing ! Not sure what the drinks were called that we had, but it was a lemon something and tasted great ! Super strong too !! Over all we had an amazing time here. Especially the spa. We did 3 different treatments and all were exceptional. Our suite was super nice. It for the whole historic vibe. But the shower was super tight. Watch your elbows ! This was such a lovely experience. I came with a friend and it was so fun! Great girls day lunch. I have celiac and have to have gluten free food. The chef and the amazing waitress Lynne made me feel so safe with their allergen precautions. I was provided with really flavorful gluten free finger sandwiches, chocolate covered strawberries, and chocolate mousse. The tea service was really informative and delicious as well. I came here for the dinner mostly couples outside since it was a fairly romantic spot with two fireplaces and outdoor heaters. Scallops were tasty the shrimp wontons in the curry sauce was good but not great and the scallops were perfectly prepared but better dipped in the curry sauce. The pork belly with the scallops was very chewy. The Halibut was excellent slightly overcooked. Wines were delicious and the service was great. Great date joint. read more

Consistent with the rest of the Viking Hotel, One Bellevue is neither clean nor well staffed. The Jazz Brunch is a joke as the band takes longer breaks than playing. But then, the piped in music is better anyway. We ordered sparkling water and got Saratoga flat. Sent back! At least they found a plastic bottle of Poland Spring. The cream for the coffee was on the verge of turning. Pancakes were okay, but below IHOP. The pork belly benedicts are very tasty, although the eggs were overdone. One order came with salad and the second one with fruit. No idea why the difference (except that they may have run out of salad). Not worthy a return. read more

I had my tea party themed bridal shower here and it was absolutely perfect! When I was looking online for venues the Hotel Viking's One Bellevue tea room really stood out. The space was bright, beautiful, not Victorian, and served Afternoon Tea! Sign me up! The bridal party was in charge of picking the location and, lucky me, they chose this spot. The staff was awesome. Need a trash bag? One showed up in two minutes. Dietary restriction? Substitution came without a problem. Everyone was raving about the blueberry scones still being warm and they were so so delicious. The only thing I would have changed is no matter how many people were at the table the same amount of food came on the tea tray. So the table with two people got the same amount of food as the table with six. Since they paid per person I think the table with six should have got more tea sandwiches and pastries. Those tables demolished the tray where as the smaller tables had plenty leftover. Everyone seemed full and happy though! If you are looking for a bridal shower location, I highly recommend this spot. I had about 20 people and it could easily fit up to 30 if you are having a bigger event. read more

A very fancy place to visit and the menu was evidence of that by their prices. I have to be honest that I only came here to go to the Top of Newport for their half price raw bar on Fridays, however, since it was rainy this Friday that I went, the roof was closed. I asked if the half price raw bar was still being honored however I was sad to find out no. I still ordered my oysters but at full price... $18 for 6. I guess that's decent but I was still disappointed. I wish they would have made some accommodations for the raw bar pricing despite the weather and for this, I give 3 stars. read more

Had a variety of items here (breakfast, lunch, and some desserts). It was pretty expensive for what you receive. I expected more. The space is nice and the staff is attentive but not overbearing. The little jams you get with breakfast were delicious. A few negative things: room temp toast, crab cakes were mostly filler, the donuts were more like cake. If I didn't have a breakfast package with the hotel I defiantly would have gone else where. Probably won't visit again if I'm in the area with so many other fantastic places to try in Newport. I made a reservation here for my sisters birthday, and not only did they act like they had no idea what I was there for- they also denied knowing anything about her birthday (even though this was made explicitly clear over the phone) Then, they ran out of afternoon tea China and started using plastic-ware... then had us choose a PREPACKAGED TEA BAG from a box. They didn't even give us our own tea pots, they gave us one large pitcher with warm water... Then we got our food- stale, hard, and SOUR sandwiches with half assed presentation and awful food. I couldnt even finish the food because of how awful it tasted. I have never been this upset over a meal in my life and I am still trying to recover. read more

The restaurant itself is designed nicely & looks like the food would be great. We were sorely disappointed. We ordered a bit of everything & there really wasn't much on the menu to brag about. The avocado toast was sad (barely any avocado on it!), the charcuterie board was embarrassing. It looked like some cheese, crackers & meat were just thrown onto it. Being in the Viking Hotel, you would expect greatness... and that is what this is! I want to highlight the staff here who never let our drinks go empty and were always in good sprits! While we did not each too much of the food, what we did have was delicious and the food going to tables near us looked phenomenal! The drinks were unbeatable! Such a classy place with holiday and seasonal drinks. This is a MUST visit when in Newport. If anything, stop by for a drink or two in the bar and enjoy the classy atmosphere while sipping on delicious cocktails. You will not be disappointed! read more

Stayed at the hotel, which is beautiful, but this restaurant is terrible. Bar menu has less than 10 things on it, including avocado toast - who orders avocado toast for dinner at a bar? Restaurant menu was equally disappointing. Clam chowder is on the menu, but is also the "soup of the day." Servers are lacking menu education - unable to describe menu items. Not friendly. Seemed very clueless. I paid $4 for a coke. My empty dish sat in front of me for about 45 minutes, no one came to check on me. I'm not sure why I tipped them as there was no service. I just watched another customer have a similar situation and as you can see left an equally poor review. It's too bad, the ambiance is outstanding, the gentleman at the front desk was amazing/accommodating/helpful and the hotel itself if fantastic, but restaurant is severely lacking. read more

My best friend and I visited One Bellevue on a Monday afternoon for afternoon tea at 2pm. The service was prompt, friendly and professional. The restaurant was nicely decorated, comfortably furnished and beautifully lit. The tea sandwiches were tasty, the cakes were delicious and the scones were the best I've ever had! Absolutely loved afternoon tea. The wait staff was very attentive and we actually had the same Waiter later in the night for dinner. The seafood bisque is a must try! I had it along with my tea tray. For $18 you can have a classic tea with three tiers of goodies: finger sandwiches, scones, other tiny desserts. The lemon curd was amazing! We were staying across the street at Bellevue Manor so we decided to also try their Paella night. It wasn't exactly Paella, more like seasoned rice under the seafood. Was still very good! And it came with a bottle of wine for $59 for two. The only thing I would suggest is to make it actual paella. Afterwards we took our wine glasses out by the fire to finish our wine, very relaxing. So we passed by this place all the time but finally decided to try it. I was always scared that the place would be too upscale to bring the kids and the parking looked scary. 1. Parking Is not scary. Free Valet. Just Pay Tip. In Newport this is awesome. 2. The Hotel Lobby has pink lemonade as soon as you walk in. Double Plus. 3. Walked into the Restaurant. Empty at 6pm on a Friday? Hostess put us right next to the AC. Got the menu and ordered. 4. VERY KID FRIENDLY. Has a nice kids menu with a variety of choices. for $8 you get a choice of a kids drink, entree and a side. Kids ordered the chicken fingers and pasta with meatballs. No real complaints. Also they had crayons and drawing paper. I'm not sure where the kids found it but the hotel also had a kids activity packet at the lobby. Overall a great place for kids. 5. For the adults. We ordered the general tso's calamari. Portion size was huge. And tasted good. Wife and I tried the Paella. I was a little hesitant about having Paella at a non-spanish restaurant but we decided to go for it. And.... Here is the problem with our dinner. Paella had a huge lobster, huge shrimp, scallops the size of my face and nice chorizos. Presentation was good. The seafood was good. So the problem? The Rice. Not Good. Chef you have to revamp the rice on that Paella. It was way over cooked and lacked flavor. The Rice has to be perfect. It really does. Especially if you are charging $69. The cheapest component of the dish was the part that was so far off. And the amount of rice was very minimal. Which in this case worked because I didn't really want to eat the rice. But for a normal Paella you would need to maybe increase it x2. 6. Service. Really Good. I don't think I have ever had my water filled as many times at a restaurant. They had plenty of servers and plenty of help. No issues here. 7. Location. In the center of town and inside a very nice hotel. All in all. We had a nice meal. We will be back to try breakfast and other items on the menu. I might try the Paella again if they rework that rice. read more

To me, this was the best place we ate at in Newport. The food is excellent, the service is attentive and friendly, and the ambiance is rustic and romantic. We came here in the middle of a giant snow snow storm since we were staying in the hotel, so it was pretty dead since the streets were all shut down, but the quality of the service and the food did not suffer. Grand chowder - this is exactly what you want when you come to Newport. Rich and creamy with huge chunks of lobster, scallops, and shrimp. It's a steal at $12 considering how much seafood they packed in here. Crab cakes - no filler here, these babies are all chunky crab. The apple slaw it comes with pairs well and is light and refreshing. Short ribs - one giant short rib over several heaping spoonfuls do sweet potato mashed potatoes and a fried Swiss chard patty. The flavors of everything here are very rich and super heavy. It's excellent, but was too heavy for me to finish. Butter poached lobster - never really though I could call anything poached in butter light,but this dish was both generous in portion, yet light. You get a full lobster, and we got a big boy, and it was perfectly cooked. The mushrooms and spaghetti squash and the perfect accompaniments in terms of flavor, texture, and lightness. Really a perfect dish. I really don't get the poor reviews on this place. We loved everything about it. Should we find ourselves back in Newport, we'll swing by here for dinner again. read more

This is an afternoon tea review, just so you all know. At $15 per head, you get what you pay for. The sandwiches were soggy, with muted flavors and sub par ingredients. The truffles didn't pop at all; they were just uninspired gobs of chocolate. The service was attentive but not exceedingly pleasant. I expected more out of an afternoon tea in the Hotel Viking, and I was sorely disappointed. If they started charging $25 per and revamped their tea set-up, I'd go back. But until then, I'm sure there are other places in Newport to get a nice afternoon tea. read more

We made a mistake going to One Bellevue for a Thanksgiving meal. We expected the special buffet that was advertised, but we discovered upon arriving that we were too late. There was no mention of limited hours on the website. In fact, the holiday buffet is still listed on the website! So, we were seated at their regular restaurant for the worst most expensive meal of our lives! Our waitress was lovely, but the service was otherwise slow and spotty. Our water glasses stood empty unless we were able to grab someone to fill them. The cocktails were good- and thank God because I needed that drink for what was to come. The calamari was rubbery and flavorless. The chowder was heavy on potatoes and light on clams. One member of our party liked their beef tenderloin well enough, phew. Otherwise, the rest of us found the food more or less inedible. The swordfish was a thin, overdone, flavorless slab. The prime rib was thin and also overdone. The "vegan cassoulet" was completely awful. It was simply a bowl of flavorless ingredients- some raw, some cooked. A cassoulet is a baked stew, but this "dish" had no sauce, much less a baked one. So, overcooked and flavorless was the theme of the evening- at a price that made me grimace. We had to stop and get pizza on the way home. One Bellevue, you need a new chef. read more

We decided to try the patio at One Bellevue for afternoon lunch and drinks. It's a wonderful setting and everything we ordered was amazing. Our server, Alex, was extremely attentive and friendly. He recommended a great bottle of rose and surprised us with a wonderful slice of cheesecake to help us celebrate our anniversary. We appreciated never feeling rushed, One Bellevue was truly a lovely place to spend the afternoon. Also, on Thursday's, they do "Paws on the Patio". This was my fine dining experience alone and I was not disappointed! I was actually surprised that there weren't more people here. Excellent service. My waiter was very knowledge and offered wonderful suggestions for my meal. AND he was handsome!! Bonus points! I got the char-broiled steak tips which had a good seasoning/flavor to them and a side of mashed potatoes. I thought it was a little weird that the steak tips came with fries but the fries were so good I didn't mind it! They have an interesting cocktail menu that I'd like to try in the future. We went for breakfast based on the reviews AND my past experience that some of the best scrambled eggs come from hotels. Not the case with hotel. The eggs were tough and the rest of the meal was just ok. I did love the coffee. The server we had was very inattentive and we had to wait to get refills of coffee and water.
