We we're driving down the highway, and it was lunchtime. Being unfamiliar with the area (We're from AK) i had to rely on Yelp Reviews to guide my choice of lunch venue. 5 stars, with 188 reviews was good enough to turn the car round and drive back 3 or 4 miles. The ambiance of the place is sheer delight. Warm and cosy - this space is lined with antiques and bric a brac, but not in a cluttered way - it's a welcoming way. There's an area at the back devoted to the sale of jarred goods like local honey and homemade jam, marinara sauces, and pasta noodles, along with some candy, even some crockery for sale. The menu is extensive, and tempting. Hard to know what to pick, but i knew what i was having, even when i saw it online, whilst driving down the Highway. Curried Smoked Chicken Sandwich had my name on it. As they offered a half sandwich and soup option, and there was a butternut squash and apple soup, i chose that and my husband got the Caribbean. To say i was thrilled was an understatement. In England (I'm English btw) we would call this Coronation Chicken Sandwich, I've always loved it, despite not really knowing why it was called that. It's not readily available in AK, but there is one cafe that has it. It is VASTLY underrated as a sandwich in my opinion. I had mine on Rye, with the literal freshest and crispest salad leaf I've eaten lately (barring the ons freshly picked from own garden of course) the central spine of the leaf still had that satisfying crunch, that helps you date that salad leaf to the hour it was cut. This tasted like a freshly harvested salad leaf to me. And the coronation chicken was so delicious. Creamy, liberally jeweled with chicken, and nicely tasting of curry. The rye bread was so fresh it could barely stand up to the onslaught of delicious filling liberally heaped upon it's triangular surface, however i managed, i managed very well indeed. And the Butternut Squash and Apple soup was delightful, savoury yet sweet at the same time. It's not a creamy soup, but it's a blended soup so there are no lumps. It was well seasoned and flavourful, redolent of Fall Flavours, and heartily warming. ENough to line my ribs with for sure. Husband seemed very happy with his Caribbean. He tried my soup, and was hinting for a taste of my half-sandwich. No way! You are not Sir! If i came back down here, and was in the Chehalis area, i would for sure get this Smoked Curried Chicken sandwich again, it's something i will not stop thinking about when i go back to AK. Absolutely wonderful place, and there seemed a lot of locals coming in too, who knew what they wanted without a lengthy consultation of the menu. I hope i get to return here! read more

Met all expectations for a nice lunch. Greeted with smile at the counter and ordered the Muffuletta sandwich with a cup of special of the day soup - green chili with pork - and had a slice of carrot cake. The sandwich was tasty with the olive tapenade added, the soup was excellent with a slight bit of heat, and the carrot cake was moist and just right. Interesting and small town gift shop ambience. Still 5 stars! I thought I should do a little update on a new fun menu item! Chocolate Vegan layer cake!!! Yes, you heard me!!! The cake itself is moist and has a very rich Chocolate flavor! The frosting is smooth and creamy, taste of rich chocolate! They also have a nice vegan chocolate chip cookie! There are daily and many vegan/vegetarian menu items to choose from. ... and for others a huge menu to choose from, the lunch specials are a real treat! I stopped in for a bit and enjoyed the turkey sandwich - the turkey. I love the rustic white bread! I had to try a slice of the vegan chocolate cake, yum! Oh, and maybe a cup of the Organic Hot Coca! I was there for a while waiting for my car to be fixed across the street. Yes, I do come here for lunch at each oil change.... LOL! When I left, Joy and her staff were putting up the Christmas decorations! I am sure I will need to come back soon to enjoy lunch with the Holiday Spirit, maybe some peppermint in my cocoa! Always a treat to dine here! I love the GF Carrot cake, so moist and flavorful! My girlfriends and I love to come here for lunch when we have a day out or birthday! Great sandwiches with fresh ingredients and in house baked bread. 100% ran by women. It's a Triple D Restaurant, we saw it on TV and decided to stop by and we're not sorry! Took a road trip down south and found this little place in Chehalis, WA. Folks wanted something light and this was the first thing that came up on my map so we decided to stop by before continuing our 11 hours road-trip. It was easy to find and the staff met us at the door with that warm welcome. They have hot and cold sandwiches that are made fresh. They also have a little shop which reminds me of The Cracker Barrel but very homier and cozier. Ordered Caribbean under hot sandwiches and kids grilled cheese and BBQ brisket...and they were on point! Great find!!! Definitely recommend! read more

Pretty much an ideal stop when making the Seattle-Portland journey, Once Upon a Thyme serves up great sandwiches with a friendly staff. Muffaletta. It's not easy to find this elusive sandwich in the West, but OUaT's got it. I sort of have an unusual rule where if a place serves a Monte Christo or a Muffaletta, I have to order it. I didn't regret it. They also have a number of other more traditional sandwiches...Reubens, French Dip, Tuna Melts, Turkey Cranberry, and their ilk. All prepared quite nicely, and everything my party ordered was received favorably. We weren't as big a fan of their potato leak soup on our visit, but to each their own. Owner Joy Templeton stopped by our table to check in on us. She seemed very sincere, genuine and happy, of course, that all of our entrees were well liked. I think this restaurant has built up its reputation on its commitment to quality ingredients, responsible sourcing, and lately being featured on Guy Fieri's show. After Guy Fieri stopped by for a visit, we had to try this place. Recently, on a cold, rainy day, we had lunch here. The decor is a take on the past, but also cozy and comfortable. The sandwich menu has lots of variety and the Turkey Cranberry sandwich I ordered was very good. It reminded me of the kind of sandwich you'd make the day after Thanksgiving, without the stuffing. My spouse had the muffuletta with a bowl of squash soup and all I heard about during lunch was how good the soup was. He even mentioned it on the drive home. This place is an absolute hidden GEM. Do yourself a favor, skip all the corporate garbage across the free way. The food here is phenomenal and you can tell it's the spot all the locals go. Guy Fierri needs to come eat here and pull all the traffic away from the corporate restaurants. My wife & I shared the Ham & Fig as well as the Bountiful beef. Stopped here for lunch after a business meeting down the road. Everything was perfect, food, ambiance and people. Everything seems to be made from scratch and the BBQ is smoked right out back. We came here with high expectations after seeing the Turkey Artichoke panini on DDD with Guy Fieri. The building outside is beautiful and very inviting. The inside atmosphere is homey and keeps you wanting to stay and see/read everything. The little store has very good prices compared to souvenir tourist stores. We were driving and purposefully planned out eating here for our much awaited brunch. We came 1/2 hour after opening at 10:30 am. There was only one other customer who was already served. Our service was good. My husband and I got our food quickly and it looked like a grilled cheese sandwich with some Turkey. I opened up the sandwich and it did not have any basil dressing whatsoever. The artichoke tapenade was almost nonexistent, which I didn't bother pointing out. It had around one teaspoon or less for the entire sandwich, if even that. The tomato was pale green and looked like only one slice for the whole sandwich. I mentioned to the waitress that it had no basil dressing and she seemed clueless that it's supposed to be there, even though I pointed out the menu description. She said she'd go ask the chef and then came back with a tiny portion of it on the side, which we had to share for two whole sandwiches. We barely got a good taste of it to go around. Paying $35 for 2 sandwiches not made according to the menu description and nothing else is pretty disappointing! The large group of ladies that came after us had beautiful, thick slices of red tomatoes and Turkey piled high on their sandwiches. I'll give this place another chance and try something else on the menu, since the Turkey was the best I've eaten anywhere! Perhaps a newly hired person was making ours & had no training how to make a proper sandwich and was never taught quality control. Unless, this is their way of cutting down costs, but I'll go with my first guess. It pains me to write negative reviews and I almost never do. I hope the owner sees this comment, as I'm certain her expectations were not met either for her lovely place. read more

They do a really nice job of serving tasty, lunch fare comprised of sandwiches, soups, salads & dessert . The environment is well lit, spacious enough & with parking! Food's provided in a timely manner even when crowded which it will be , especially lunchtime. This place smelled great, as soon as walking in the door. Great prices for the food. Had the tuna melt with Waldorf salad and the chocolate raspberry almond torte. Apple chunks could've been smaller, the basil dressing that was drizzled on the tuna melt was fab. The wheat hearty English muffin was perfect. The best part was that torte.
