I went to Once Upon a Spa to get my nails done the day before my wedding and it was the perfect way to de-stress. Not only did my nails look amazing, but I came away from the entire experience refreshed. This place is absolutely wonderful and worth your time. It means a lot to me how private and secure the studio is: small room with you and the master alone. However, I do see claustrophobic people having a problem with it. I would probably suggest visiting first before scheduling your first appointment. Christina is great and extremely supportive. It was my first sugaring ever. I was anxious and scared, afraid of pain and looking goofy. Christina helped me open up, feel comfortable, distracted me, and explained every step of the way, including theory and benefits of sugaring vs waxing. She kept an interesting conversation during the procedure, supported me throughout the process, took breaks, offered some water. Extremely pleasand experience. Plus a small highlight: if you need to scream - let it out, this is just a place! :D Definitely makes you feel better. As a suggestion for first-commers just like me: take some ibuprofen about an hour before the procedure. Sugaring is not as bad as waxing, but it still does hurt. Overall, great private experience, good after care advices, and nice company. If you are looking for a new place, don't be in doubt, go here! It's worth it. Tip: it's located inside a small spa-complex with private rooms all over the floor. The name of the spa complex is different, but there's a map of the place when you go in. Why didn't anyone tell me about this earlier? I HATED going to nail salons where you don't know if you can get in right away or get in 30 minutes from now. Even if you made an apt over the phone, you're still waiting. With Christine, when you get there, she's waiting for you! As a busy working mom, my time is important to me. I love the personalized experience. I sit in the chair, I get a neck warmer, and Christine is always making sure that I'm comfortable. I get the one-on-one attention, which is fantastic. She's an excellent conversationalist and she really knows her products. She does not push her products on me or try to upsell me on things that I don't want or need. A another thing to mention is clean, clean, clean! Everything is clean and you never have to wonder if the equipment was sanitized between clients. (You know how shady those nail salons can be with rotating customers!) Christine is very proud of her sanitizing machine - she pointed it out to me when we were chatting. All of her products are either natural or organic. My legs and feet feel so soft after a spa pedicure. If price is your concern, I'll just say that you get what you pay for. I used to never get a pedicure because of the price and service; I could do it at home for free. But now that I'm going to Christine, I know I'm getting my money's worth. It's beyond someone rubbing cheap lotion on your legs and painting your nails. This is someone using high-end products to take care of your skin and nails. The painting is just the bonus. If you have gone to standard salons where there are five people working you may get an adequate manicure. The word "spa" is what sets this small business apart. The Spa is cozy and it has soft music playing on Pandora which sets you into a tranquil peaceful space. As other people have said: Christine is incredibly friendly uses top of the line products does not clip your cuticles and remove live skin (ouch, been there) offers a guarantee your gel polish won't chip in the very near future has loyal customers. Today I'll be back for my third visit YAY! didn't its looking great after two weeks. I recommend the manicure plus extra service that involves eco-paraffin. My legs felt SO soft and smooth. What a huge difference that cheap lotions used other places. This costs a little more but if you can swing it, definitely go for the splurge. Didn't change salons, upgraded to a spa. I simply cannot say enough good things about Christine. She has taken my nails from catastrophe to cute. I came to her with nails damaged from years of biting and attempts not to that involved acrylics, gel polish, etc, etc, etc. Over some patient times and lots of education, she has brought me to having healthy stronger nails that are all mine and are everything I was hoping I could achieve. The space is cute, if a bit hard to find, but she gives great directions, and there is plenty of parking in the underground garage. I'm trying sugaring with her in the next couple weeks, so will add onto this review after that, but for nails, I cannot recommend highly enough. Ok so here's the deal. As a man, I am not at all experienced with getting a facial. That said, I was gifted an Express Facial with Christine at Once Upon A Spa and I have to say, it was fantastic. The spa is easy to get to in down town Redmond. It's located inside the Sola Salons. There is plenty of free parking inside the building's parking lot. Christine was fantastic, giving me a warm welcome, asking me some general questions about my skin and hygiene. After all that was taken care of she explained the process of the facial and then once she began the facial, I completely lost track of time. When everything was done, I was shocked to discover that I had only been there for 45 minutes. It felt like an hour and a half had gone by. Christine was great, really solid skills, super nice, very friendly. She did a great job making me feel welcome and comfortable. Ladies this is a great gift for your guy. Guys, I know its not top of the list for manly endeavors but if you want to keep your face looking its best and feel good doing, this is a must try experience! I loved it. read more

I'm not going to lie, I honestly had no idea what I was getting into. Christine was a very professional vernisseur, telling a completely ignorant person all about nail health. This review is for a gel manicure with Christine. I got there on time for my appointment, but she was still finishing up with her previous client. I appreciated the fact that she came out when my appointment was sypposed to start and apologized and that she will be with me shortly (and I only had to wait 5 minutes, so it wasn't a big deal). The room was very clean and she also uses properly sanitized tools! I've been to some nail salons where this was an issue. She also uses a new nail file for each client, so you get to keep it afterwards! Christine herself is very welcoming and has a great personality. I felt very comfortable chatting with her as I got my nails done. She was also very informative of gel manicures since I'm new to it. As this is a private salon, I appreciated the one on one service. I didn't feel rushed and she didn't rush my manicure at all like in some salons where it's just in and out. It's only been one day, but my nails look great. Christine does offer a free touch up if the nails chip in the first week (gels should last at least two weeks or else there's no point in getting them). I'll definitely be back! read more

Two years later and I am still a loyal customer! I have now added facial services on top of my Brazilian sugaring. I started suffering from adult acne in my mid twenties, it was super embarrassing and I tried EVERYTHING to get it under control, with no luck. I have incredibly dry skin, that is really sensitive so I was worried about doing anything that would make it worse. She worked her magic and recommended some great products and I am now acne free and I get so many compliments on my skin! I usually go to InSpa because of their late hours but I was doing a search to find a spa for a friend and liked the name, Once Upon a Spa. I loved the service even more! First, I work at Microsoft in Redmond so it was really great to have a spa closer to me. Second, the location is right across from the Hyatt House so easy to find and it feels private. The parking is free too. I did a manicure, pedicure, and facial with Christine, a Master Esthetician. Her manicure and pedicure were terrific. She has a really soft touch and was particularly good at laying on the color for my manicure pedicure. I also tend to notice little things too like the lotion she used was a nice Mango Shea Butter and not the cheap pink lotion that is used at a lot of nail salons. She also gave me the nail file to keep which is the right thing to do for sanitary purposes. I did a vitamin C facial which felt very good. My skin felt very soft the next morning, and tighter without feeling dry. The only thing that stood out for me as a consideration is the room size. She rents a small studio out of a bigger building but it wasn't too big a deal with me. If you're claustrophobic though it might feel a little small. I will definitely be back! read more

Christine is a gem-- and such a professional. She immediately made me feel comfortable and welcome while simultaneously being respectful of time and privacy. I am from out of town, visiting my son, but I will put Christine on my schedule for every visit. I had the pleasure of experiencing a facial and a spa pedicure. The skin on my (almost 60-yr old) skin now feels like a baby's! The entire experience was calm, relaxed and totally focused on me. There was no rushed feeling ever... and Christine does not over-schedule . She answered all my questions and also explained about the products she was using, the benefits, the ingredients etc. She also offered a first-time discount to me (without my asking) as well as an abbreviated but nonetheless generous complimentary LED treatment (it is a new service she is offering-- this was a free intro) as an add on to my very extensive, attentive facial (includes upper body, neck, & hand massage!). The spa pedicure and gel polish were expertly executed. It is obvious that Christine takes great pride in her work, is meticulous, and has knowledge and experience that she willingly shares. I am so happy I chose her individual salon experience over a more generic "nail salon" -- and especially happy I chose to do a facial as well!
