Came all the way to the store & this locations isn't accepting any items to buy staff aren't very welcoming and place looks a mess.

I have been going to this store for many years. I have 8 grandchildren. It is clean, well maintained, well stocked and I have NEVER seen the staff sitting around doing nothing. I'm startled by some of the reviews complaining about donations but I've never brought anything in to be sold. It's funny how some expect to get top dollar for their used clothes, toys. If you haven't even used the item, there must be a reason. Most sections are color coded and I have found the merchandise to be exceptionally nice. I've purchased everything from high chairs to dresses to down jackets here for very fair prices. I've also been to the store in West Springfield which is also very nice. PROS: the staff was nice and the store was well organized and laid out. The prices were good and the hours were long. Good amount of parking as well and a lot of the items were brand new CONS: you have to make an appointment to sell your stuff, unlike other locations, and you can only schedule your appointment for the week on Friday or Saturday OVERALL: nice store to buy from but selling you can't just walk in. Please read the reviews. There's so many 1 stars for a reason, this place is actually the worst. I will never go back. I went on Saturday morning, the first appointment of the day. I brought in a little tikes kitchen set, a costume, an alien/ predator toy set, a toddler backpack (never used) a large toy organizer with plastic bins, a spider man me reader 8 book set and a hot wheels race track. (All I received back was the hot wheels racetrack stating that was the only item they would not be taking) all I received was 25 dollars... I knew something was off but trying to actually get an answer of the girls behind the register is impossible. I didn't really feel like arguing with anyone since it was 10 am on a Saturday morning, I looked at my receipt afterwards that night and noticed it said they only bought 4 items. So I called today and the only thing the woman on the phone said was "sorry that was a miscommunication from behind the register" so they through out apparently 2 items that were not given back to me that I could have easily donated or sold elsewhere. THE WORST STAFF. Saturday morning, 4 or 5 girls standing behind the register talking instead of actually telling the cashier correct information. This place sucks dude, do not go here! Please please go elsewhere. This place is a huge joke. I brought sizes that their website clearly stated they take! The staff is rude and unfriendly. I had 50 pieces of clothing. The store is an absolute JOKE! First off, I brought my clean folded clothes in a brand new reusable shopping bag, they told me my items should either be a bin or a box. Otherwise they can't look at my items. so thankfully, a woman in the store gave me her used diaper box.. (much cleaner than a brand brand new shopping bag in there eyes) still trying to figure that one out.. lol! The clothing selection always is entertaining on its own, gave back nwot vineyard vines, Lily P but took stuff from SHEIN. Not sure why you need to make an appointment because when you go online, there's nothing but openings. Dressing rooms and bathrooms are still closed, News alert- Covid is done. Don't waste your time here! This place is horribly managed! I drove 30 minutes to this location to be told that I have to schedule an appointment online. Fair, I went home and made the necessary appointment and arrived as scheduled. Upon my arrival, I was informed that I could not proceed because I need to place the items in bins. I promptly went to HomeGoods, purchased the two bins, and returned to the location before my appt was over. The appts are 15 minutes slots, and I was told that if the next appt doesn't arrive that I will be seen. My appt was from 10-10:15a. I waited from 10:15a - 10:30a, only to be told that I would need to reschedule because the 10:30 apt arrived. The lack of clear communication and the contradictory instructions contributed significantly to my frustration. But what contributed to my frustration even more was when the young white female told me "How old are you that you cannot read what is on the website?" I continued to explain my frustration and was told "Some people are not meant to be mothers" please do not support this business. read more

Don't waste your time. Brought 1 bin full of dresses Carters, skirts , shorts, HM also dresses from Nordstrom and they wanted pay $6.00 was my second try with this business . Never more. And they give you back your clothes in a such a mess after you carefully brought it folded and ironed this is so rude. read more

I want to preface this review with the fact that I've been to other once upon a child stores and never found one as difficult as this one. This is the only location that requires appointments. You can literally be alone in the store with employees standing around but they won't buy used clothes if you don't have an appointment. They also won't look at your clothes if they aren't in a box. I got turned away for having a bag. They had a stack of large blue bins on their side of the counter but I had to provide a box for them. Simply ridiculous. This place must be run by a manager who gets off flexing on strangers. I wish this chain had another location nearby. This one gives it a bad reputation. read more

don't waste your time driving there. I understood that they do not accept high-quality clothes. But even athletic wear, they'll give you dollars for something if you want to sell. i'm sure it was a great idea years ago, but now they figured out that people take their time wait hours and drive so far that you just end up getting fed up they could take 20 to 30 brand new items and give you if you're lucky eight dollars. do yourself a favor and just donate the clothes to Goodwill. You waste more money on gas. it's almost like they take joy out of embarrassing you because you're waiting. you end up feeling pathetic. This is the email I sent to the store: The store was literally empty, literally. Every person "working" was doing nothing. Like 4 young women, no smiles or any sense of customer service, sitting around and completely rude. Either close the store or get better employees, with how "busy" they were, this entire store could be run with 1 competent person. I got there 10 minutes early and the person "tending" to me was rude and nasty. She started to speak Spanish about me to her coworker as if I didn't speak fluently. I have shopped here at least 10 times. I love the bargains and the store is organized. But the help is awful, the girls behind the counter are miserable, they never smile and they make you feel that they're doing you a favor by being there. I'm not sure who owns this store, but they should definitely talk to their help about maybe smiling once in a while and making people feel welcome. Everyone in the store is super nice , except the manager or owner , there was an issue with someone not ringing up an item that I was returning and the manager / owner took it and repeatedly said I can not let this item leave it is still in my inventory !!! Really like I was going to steal from a second hand store . You sure need the 3 dollars more than I do . Learn some customer service YOU ARE RUDE ! I was selling some stuff they are very adamant about taking the items in a bin , I nicely folded them all and when I got what they did not take it was all thrown in the bin and that same lady was the one who threw them in. I walk in for my appointment and three ladies are sitting around chatting. You can tell they don't want to deal with going through my stuff as they whisper who will be the one to go through it. Reluctantly one girl comes over after a minute, looks at my basket and tells me they can't review my merchandise because it needs to be in a cardboard box in order for them to go through it... it's not like my stuff was in a dirty garbage bag but a nice reusable bag. I'm pretty sure covid restrictions have been lifted as no one was wearing a mask so I'm not sure why this one location has this rule but no other location does. The staff is very rude and unhelpful. I got stuck in traffic, and they said I was 6 minutes late for my appointment, but I was only 5 minutes late. Needless to say, they refused to take me and took their next appointment 10 minutes early. They completed her within 5 mins. There waso still 5 mins left of my appointment time, and they still refused to look at my one bin. Instead, they stood there chatting about their weekend. After waiting 45 minutes, they finally agreed to look at my bin. I thanked them, but they ignored me and continued chatting about their weekend. My hope is that the owner of the store reads this review. read more

Listen, I get it. You have to set pretty tight windows to drop off clothing. And you do say there is a 5 minute window in all the correspondence sent before. But when you get stuck in the parking lot next door and spend ten minutes trying to get turned around, all while dealing with a crying two month old, and then you even call to explain why you are late, and you give your name, and are told to just bring everything in, so you drag a box of clothes, a ten pound bouncer, and said crying two month old up a dirt hill next to cars going 70 mph, only to then be told "sorry, you missed your window." Would have been great to tell me 3 minutes earlier before I put my kid in danger. I'll be going to a different store to try and sell this stuff, but maybe think about getting some consistency between the person who answers the phone and the person at the desk. read more

My daughter and I went to sell many of her outgrown and perfectly maintained books. The employees were all very busy gossiping and goofing around loudly. They were completely inefficient and unprofessional. I will never go back. read more

This store has really great prices and is an amazing spot for your kids essentials. They have a good variety of clothes and accessories, at prices better than any other store. As long as you don't mind used items or clothes (you can wash), then this store is perfect for you and your family. If you ever need outfits for your kids, this is the first place you should go. read more

Unfortunately, I have never had a great experience in this shop. I have returned over the years in an effort to reduce, reuse and recycle and have found some items for my kids, but over the years, the quality has steadily gone down as has the attitudes of the staff. The feedback from prior reviewers is "spot on" where they indicate that staff seem to be bothered that they have to deal with customers. Sadly despite the feedback, they don't seem to care and nothing seems to change. I have visited other franchise locations and have found them to be wonderful. It is a shame that this location can't get it together. The store is overcrowded with fast fashion / cheaply made clothing and requires a shopper to look carefully at what they are buying. I have found items with pulls, stains and excess wear and tear, which is ironic, as when I try to sell to them, they continuously reject the perfect quality of J. Crew and Polo items. The store is also noticeably lacking season specific items and many of the bins of shoes are empty. Not sure if this is due to lack of consignments or the attitude that they present to consignors and turning down much needed inventory that is brought in. In addition to the quality of the product going down, the service is absolutely horrendous. The staff could care less about doing their jobs. Staff does not want to assist customers. They seem more interested in chatting with each other than doing their jobs. One customer was told that they couldn't go through their consignment bins because they were 10 minutes early, despite having people behind the counter standing around doing nothing ... and then shortly after that ... another consignor shows up 10 minutes early and they immediately take in those items for processing without finishing the prior consignors bins. Additionally, when selling to the shop, they won't give you a list of the items they are purchasing and how much they are being purchased for. The only response provided is "it's our policy". It all is a bit too fishy. Even ThredUp tells you how much they are purchasing each item for. The store has all of the information in a computer system that they can clearly see, they just choose to not be transparent in the business transaction. As a customer, it is no longer worth the time to dig through the "junk". As a consignor, there are so many other choices where your business is wanted and customers are respected. My recommendation is go elsewhere. ThredUp.com for online or Gingerbread Consignment shop in Midland Park are far better options and the local owner is lovely to deal with. read more

Most of the staff is friendly and helpful, however, the female manager is why this expierence recives one star. She did not speak or look at me while reviewing my items, then kept her back turned to me while whispering to the employee who rang me up. The cash offered for my practically new items was extremely low. I asked for clarification and would have discussed this with her but she left the room before I was rung up. Overall, she came off as very rude and made me feel uncomfortable. Not to mention an unfairly low offer with no explanation. I will not return to this location. read more

I went to shop and drop stuffs at this place. They returned some clothes with tag on and just wonder why, they said there's a spot ( barely seen). It's new condition. Most of clothes I drop were in excellent condition, but had some worn which barely seen. This is a second-hand/ used items store, who cares for the cheapest and good condition unless it's dirty. If they want perfect condition, they would prefer to buy brand new. The staff checked and look every single corners of each clothes and paid us less than a dollar. read more

Came to sell two items...One of which was massive, and awkward to fit in my car. Caused me to arrive a few min late for my appointment (8 min outside of their grace period window). They wouldn't take me...because I was outside of their "grace period". Are you serious?! It's not like the place was swamped and I had a ton of stuff. I had two items, one of which was crazy awkward to even get back into my car. Again...TWO items. Not a trunk full...just two. No empathy for that. It's a "store policy". I'm sorry, I didn't realize the store will crumble and the customers that were NOT in your store at the time would take issue with you spending 60 seconds telling me whether you are going to give me $5 or $5.25 for an item worth four times that. The world is insane. This store is clearly run my miserable people, who's only satisfaction is to cause their customer's patience to fade more than their sign out front. read more

I arrived early and saw that they were just sitting around and ask if I could bring items in early. "No we are fully booked" ... Lies ! I go to this store every season as my kids outgrow their clothes, and am so happy to have them nearby. The employees are always so helpful - one of them scoured the shelves with me until we found a shirt with "flip sequins" (she was sure they had one, I was specifically looking for that for my daughter's birthday, and she was awesome- and we DID find one). The staff is always SO hard working- every time I'm there, they are doing multiple tasks involving sorting new stuff, talking to customers, helping with the shelving/hanging clothes. The store is clean, organized (by size AND color), and easy to navigate. I understand that people complain about them not taking a ton of stuff- but this is why the items that they sell are literally like-new. As a consumer, I'd rather have them be picky (I go there to buy clothes to be able to give my kids comfortable, nice clothes that I otherwise wouldn't be able to afford- so if that means they don't pay as much to sellers to keep resale costs down, or that they don't take all my stuff when I go to sell it there, so be it- I'll donate what they don't take and take the tax write off for donations instead). And yes, the prices are a little higher than the Rt. 46 store- that said, the more expensive pieces are often for names like North Face or Juicy Couture. The more normal clothes are within a dollar or two of their Rt. 46 counterparts. And this is so much closer to where I live, it's worth it! read more

Bring the right set of expectations, bring things you would want to BUY and remember that you are selling things to a consignment shop so you aren't going to walk out with hundreds of dollars. read more

Just had a great selling experience but will not be returning. I was greeted upon entering, the staff was pleasant and the store was EXTREMELY organized by size and color considering it's a second hand business. I arrived at about 1pm on a Wednesday. I assumed I would drop off my large bag of boys clothes and return that evening for the verdict thank goodness I didn't have to. The associate took my things and immediately started her appraisal as I browsed the store. She was done within 20 minutes. (In the bad among other things were a north face jacket, Jeremy Scott adidas, and a set from Nordstrom with tag and hanger. My offer was 8.00....... NOW I was not expecting to retire from this haul but I did expect to be able to get chipotle and ice cream... In short it is a great store if you shop second hand, I will not however waste my time again to sell considering how particular it is based on their stock, etc. I did take the 8.00 and get a bunch of like new books so it was not a complete waste. Walked in today with a few bags of clothes and the first thing that was said to me before I even approached the counter was "you're gonna have to wait and it's gonna be an hour and a half" I responded "oh ok cause last time I just dropped stuff off and came back the next day" she says "you could go to Starbucks or bring it back at 7am tomorrow" no hi how are you welcome to the store or even a I'm sorry there's a line. Today I went to drop of clothings at Once Upon A Child. They excepted the bin of clothing I had, and said they would sort through the items and give me a price based on what they think they were worth. So as they went through the bin I had as I browsed through the store. They had many cute items most items were basic nothing to really wow over. While looking through the store a lot of the items looked super used and even unsellable in my opinion but they were still on hangers and on the shelves. A lot of the items were your everyday regular brands like Carter's, and The Children's Place. Even though the store states they prefer brand name items like Nike, Baby Gap, Gymboree, Under Armour, Etc. So once they were done they handed me back the bin that was pretty much full with a quote or price of what they would give me for the items they kept. The price was super low but I had no huge attachment to the clothes and other items. So I took what they offered and in my mind I figured it'll go to someone who actually needs it. So when I grabbed the bin I was so confused on how much stuff was still in the bin. I had asked why the bin was still full and she said that the items were stained and had wear to them. So I said okay but out of confusion when I took the bin back to the car I looked inside and realized that most of the items that were given back to me were items that were never worn, and still had tags on them. So ideally what she said made no sense. It's so unfortunate because I had my daughter late in the summer. I was in the house with her most of the winter, and a lot of the items I received at her baby shower were gifts with no gift receipts. My daughter didn't get to wear most of the outfits, clothes, and shoes that were bought for her. All the items were in new condition and how I received them. It's unfortunate but I will never return let alone refer anyone to a Once Upon A Child because they make no logical sense. read more

Horrendous. I went in here once while they were not open for selling yet and they were totally disorganized. They took people out of order and I waited almost 3 hours. Today I drove almost an hour only to be told that they are not taking anything under 24 months. I brought 2 bins of clothes under 24 months. It is not posted anywhere that they have this restriction. The manager said she was sorry and told the owner who was in the back. The owner never bothered to come out and apologize. I was planning on buying a lot of clothes today but walked out empty handed. I will not return. In addition, their bathroom was FILTHY and they were selling stained and ripped mattresses. They need to get their act together or they will be out of business in 6 months! read more

Showed up at 10:50 for my 11:00 selling appt. Called to tell them I arrived and they said I had to wait until 11:00 to come in. No problem, I figured they were buying from someone before me. I walk in and nope....literally 4 teenagers sitting behind the counter on their cell phones who didn't even acknowledge my presence. Not another customer in sight anywhere in the store. I lug two heavy bins in by myself (7 months pregnant) and they proceed to look through it. 20 minutes later they offer me $38 for 40 items....one of which was a brand new unopened set of wooden alphabet blocks and a brand new, unopened mini drum set. Okay, fine. they hand me the cash and tell me to take the rest of the stuff in the bins back. I now have to lug both bins, basically still full, back to my car without them even offering to help at all seeing as I'm clearly pregnant. Also, most of the larger items were disgusting and dirty. I am so glad that they opened a store here in Paramus. They have quality items due to their meticulous screening of clothes coming in. The staff are always pleasant. I suggest that you call first before coming in to see if there is a wait or if there is a change as to what they accept. read more
