I've been going to On the Corner Grill for quite a while, and one of the things that keeps me coming back is the consistency. For a place that many people jokingly refer to as "the gas station restaurant," the food is surprisingly--and consistently--good. This particular dinner was a great example. We started with the arancini balls, which were crispy on the outside, creamy and cheesy inside, and packed with that rich, savory flavor you want from a good arancini. The Pomodoro Caprese was another standout. The tomatoes were fresh and flavorful, the mozzarella was creamy, and the bright tomato sauce and fresh flavors made it a nice lighter start to the meal. The chicken parmigiana was exactly what you hope for in a classic chicken parm. The chicken was tender with a nicely crisped exterior, topped with plenty of tomato sauce and melted cheese. It had that combination of crispy, cheesy, savory and slightly sweet tomato flavor that makes chicken parm such a comfort-food favorite. The rigatoni alla Bolognese was rich and hearty, with a slow-cooked meat sauce that had plenty of depth without being overly heavy. The rigatoni held onto the sauce really well, making every bite flavorful. The chicken Marsala was another favorite. Tender chicken with a savory Marsala sauce that had that slightly sweet, earthy mushroom flavor you expect from a good Marsala. The sauce was rich enough to make the dish satisfying without overwhelming the chicken. And then there was the salad special with salmon. The salmon was a nice change of pace from the heavier pasta and chicken dishes, and the freshness of the salad balanced out the meal really well. We also started the evening with a couple of Espresso Martinis, which were a great combination of rich coffee flavor and just enough sweetness to get the night started. What I really like about On the Corner is that you can come in regularly and feel pretty confident that the food is going to be good. Restaurants can have a great night here and there, but consistency is what makes a place a regular stop for me. So yes, it may be "the gas station restaurant," but don't let that nickname fool you. There's a real kitchen here putting out some very good food, and this dinner was another reminder of why On the Corner Grill remains one of our go-to spots in Derry. read more

We had dinner tonight at On the Corner Grill and everything was excellent. I ordered the scallops risotto and they were delicious. My friends had the salmon, mussels and calamari, and a steak tip salad-everyone loved their meals. For dessert we shared crème brûlée warm donut dessert with ice cream and whipped cream, which were amazing. Our server, Naomi, was the best-attentive, friendly, and sweet, always making sure we had everything we needed for a great dining experience. The restaurant was packed on a Tuesday night, which says a lot about how good it is. The two small cons: when I made the reservation on March 7, I included a note asking for a surprise birthday dessert for my friend Anita after the meal (I had planned to order the Swiss Chalet Cake), but it never arrived. Luckily we ordered the crème brûlée donut to share, which was fantastic anyway. I just wish reservation comments were reviewed so special requests like that can be carried out. Additionally, it was also a bit loud for a small restaurant, especially on a Tuesday night. Overall, everything was perfectly cooked and we'll definitely be going back again soon. read more

The place is always busy, but we are often able to get a reservation by phoning. The place is loud, but you can easily carry on a conversation. Stopped in for lunch on Sunday afternoon. It was quiet and not overly busy. We were seated right away. Asked for a Gluten Free menu. No GF menu and items not marked on main menu, just a blanket statement almost everything can be made GF. The waitress seemed knowledgeable. She explained they don't have a dedicated fryer or pasta pot but claimed they use a clean pot and fresh water for GF orders. The meatballs are made with regular bread crumbs and simmered in the marinara sauce further limiting GF choices. I settled on the chicken Marsala over GF pasta. The chicken was tender and the mushroom Marsala sauce delicious. I think the $7 up charge for GF pasta was excessive. All was good until a hour or two later when I started feeling the effect of being Glutened. Two of the three others in my group enjoyed their burgers/sandwiches and I was told the fries were good. My wife felt her pastrami was too fatty the yellow mustard was a lower quality ingredient than expected for the price. All in all a three star experience but I won't recommend it for anyone with Celiac or other gluten/wheat allergies. read more

My wife and I went here for lunch, it was recommended by a good friend. The atmosphere was very nice and the location was convenient for us. We both started with a cup of the Stracliatella soup which was amazing. Then for our main course, I had the chicken Marsala and my wife had the Cobb salad. Both very good. The staff were all very friendly and one of them was telling us about all they do for a Bulldog rescue and other things that they do for the community. We will definitely be returning. read more

The two of us had lunch there today and very much enjoyed our experience we started off with a couple of well made cocktails then we had their appetizer special a stuffed artichoke which, unfortunately, was served with the fuzzy choke still in. But still tasty. I had their appetizer special Mussels and Calmari Fra Diablo and my spouse had their appetizer Eggplant Al Forno both delicious good portions and cooked perfectly and our server, Emma, was friendly and efficient. The portions were generous -- I'll give them that. But the staff brought me the wrong pasta with my meal (stuffed eggplant), then offered to send me home with pasta to go as compensation. (What good is that? I would have pointed out the mistake right away, but my waitress/bartender never once checked on me after delivering the dish.) I sat at the bar and was treated like a leper. She never came back to refill my drink or ask how everything was, yet she showered attention on the couple next to me -- who clearly knew her personally and were only drinking, no food ordered. You can tell when a restaurant has turned from someone's pride and joy into just a place for the waitstaff to hook up their friends with drinks and extra service for tips, not for the restaurant's profit or performance. The place is half bar half restaurant. The bar is a good size with plenty of seating and tv's on the wall and on the restaurant side they have ample seats both tables and booths for dinner. The service was excellent she was hard working polite. The food was just ok but the Ribeye was under cooked sent it back and came back overcooked the lobster roll was a little dry but still good the baby back ribs were good but still a little tough to chew I wasn't crazy about how the food came out. My review is for the brand new location in downtown Haverhill. I have been to the Derry location and love that one, too. I went there with two friends last night, and we all had an exceptional experience. Addy was our wonderful server who was so sweet, attentive, and fun. She kept checking on us and brought us anything we needed. The manager also checked on us as well. I am a type 1 diabetic, so I asked Addy to check ingredients, which were fine with an adjustment. We all got their awesome risotto--what I LOVE about OTC is that they will sub in cauliflower rice for the rice in all of their risottos. That means I can order any of them-they have 8 kinds-and by subbing a lower carb food it allows me to enjoy the same things my friends had. I wish more restaurants offered a few things like that--zucchini noodles is another-that opens up the entire pasta section for me (if anyone at OTC is reading this). The whole menu is great, the location is fantastic, right on the Merrimack River, and the new parking garage is right across the street. I highly recommend - we will be going back soon for sure! read more

My wife and I have been to OCG many times and always a good meal so I have mixed feelings about leaving a bad review but feel that I have to. We had dinner there late yesterday afternoon and the first issue was the bread w/oil they brought us. The slices were literally 1/4" thick from someone pressing hard on a hot loaf while cutting. They had a fisherman's platter special that we ordered. Huge dissatisfaction as it had ONE scallop and TWO shrimp. It had several clams and some fish on top of a huge bowl of fries. The bar woman asked how was dinner and my wife said one complaint only one scallop in her response was yeah that's why I don't get a fisherman's platter when I go out to dinner oh well, we all have our off experiences, but the mail was $48 and I feel they should've balanced the seafood more professionally. read more

I've been coming to on the corner grill since they opened, and have tried several different things on the menu to try and give it a chance, but getting takeout this time was extremely disappointing. If I had gotten this dish inside the restaurant I would've sent it back. The worst part is, I've ordered this same exact meal from them before as well, and it looked completely different. The chicken marsala is bland and pretty mid-grade as well. This is just sad for a $30 dish and I didn't eat any of it. I didn't even recognize which meal was mine. I've also ordered a steak from here and wish I had a photo - but it came out rubbery, bland, with a few iron marks, and they try to load it with barbecue or steak sauce. As a steak lover this hurts my soul. I think about the night I ordered this steak more than I'd like to admit. Even the chicken broccoli ziti isn't as good as some of the local pizza places that can make it for way cheaper. I've finally learned my lesson after many trials and tribulations. It's so bland and one of the worst versions of this dish I've tried. We live so close by the restaurant that it's a shame I won't be going back, and I simply wish I enjoyed it more. read more

Went on a Thursday at 230 for a late lunch. Seated at a high top in bar area. Restaurant has a nice aesthetic. The bartender was our server. She was busy so someone else took our drink order. Plenty of time with the menu. I had chicken broccoli and ziti. Very good. Not an Alfredo but more like a garlic butter sauce. He had the calamari and shrimp over linguini in scampi sauce. Poor customer service.Had reservations for work function. They messed up and clicked wrong time. We show up at time booked and they just said sorry for our mistake. No offer to try to get us tables or to make it right after we all drove nearly an hour up. Left us scrambling. After blasting online the "manager" said would make it right. COVID update. They still rock. I didn't do photos cuz we did it to go. Their Biergarten is open and so is indoors and the bar. Servers do masks and they sanitize between customers. It all good and very nice. I would have planned the Biergarten had I planned better. Let's talk food. Cheese steak egg rolls ROCK! Mostly steak with just enough cheese to glue it together along with a good chipotle cream sauce to plays well with the egg rolls. Had the butternut squash ravioli which were good in a nice cream sauce. BUT, the veal Francese ROCKED on angle hair pasta. I'm sure the yardbird version is just as good. read more

We had a very enjoyable dinner at On the Corner Grill this week. We had the O Chicken and the Italian Trio for entrees and they were both delicious. I loved the 3 different sauces in the Italian Trio. I felt like I needed my plate on a lazy susan so I could just spin it around as I tried all the different items: chicken parm, lasagna in alfredo sauce, and ravioli in red sauce. The cocktails are delicious and I tried the Pumpkin Martini and the Espresso Martini. We would definitely go back again if we're ever down in that area. read more

First thing the hostess tells you upon arriving with a reservation is "you have the table for an hour and a half" so in other words no lingering... I felt like this was ridiculous considering the prices.. Sorry but in my opinion when you make a reservation for two (and we made it early) and for a 74th birthday dinner, they shouldn't seat you in the noisy bar area at a high top table. Steak tip dinner 3 steak tips on top of a HUGE mound of risotto for 30 bucks? Not the same tips we had before there.. I thought it should have been at least 4 tips. I got a skinny piece of very spicy blackened swordfish on a mound of risotto was ok. Had mango salsa mixed in with rice so to me it looked like leftovers. Bill was over 100 for 2 and we had no alcohol. Birthday dinner and not even a free piece of cake.. what has happened to restaurants? Waitress was the best thing about it! Just finished another spectacular meal here! I was upset to read a review that blasted this place for lack of following protocol for mask wearing. The guidelines no longer require mask wearing in New Hampshire. Patrons are welcome to wear as previously mandated, or not wear as new health mandates feel are needed. If reviewer preferred a mask-wear one. If they were upset at staff not wearing-fine-don't eat here, but DON'T accuse them of not following guidelines! This establishment, as well as so many others, saw employees risk their OWN PERSONAL health in the earliest days of COVID when so much was unknown to provide US with food. The food was good, but the owner and a customer began screaming at each other in the restaurant. I had my 12 year old with me and the two individuals were swearing and screaming at each other, nothing like that should occur at a place I'm paying to eat at with family. I could barely hear my family sitting right across from me because of how obnoxiously loud the screaming was. At the bare minimum you should escort the screaming women outside of the restaurant so the rest of us do not have to hear and I should not have to worry about my 12 year old hearing two grown adults swear and scream at each other while out to eat. I had dinner at On The Corner (OTC) Grill very recently, which opened at the corner of NH 111 and Island Pond Rd. This new restaurant and bar is a relocation of the former Buono Panini of Salem, which closed on August 31. The food offerings here include mainly Italian dishes, pasta, risotto, seafood, chicken, veal, pork), steaks, salads, appetizers, wings, and desserts. Paninis and sandwiches also will be served during lunch hours. The bar offers cocktails, wine and beer with 8 drafts on tap. The prices here are moderate. I arrived here on a cold snowy evening and the place was quite busy. The layout is cozy with booths and tables in the left section and the bar with high seating and high top table seating in the right section. I decided to sit up at the bar where there are big flat screen TVs. The place is also decorated with black & white photos from the Prohibition era. The bartender promptly took my drink order, gave me a menu and mentioned the specials. They did not have mussels and salmon during my visit. I decided on the Italian Trio ($20) and a House Side Salad ($3). I was given warm crusty Italian bread with olive oil and seasonings for dipping. The house side salad had fresh greens, tomatoes, cucumber, black olives, carrots, red onion, dressing on the side. The Italian Trio was comprised of cheese & meat lasagna topped with Alfredo sauce, cheese raviolis topped with marinara sauce, and a deep fried chicken cutlet topped with pink sauce, fresh steamed broccoli in the center. This square plate of food was very filling, but a bit salty tasting. For dessert, the Xango Deep Fried Cheesecake ($8) rich smooth cheesecake filled in crispy tortilla shells, topped with caramel drizzle, coated with cinnamon sugar, whipped cream on the side. The check for dinner, salad, and dessert came out to just under $34 with tax and before tip. The service at the bar was pleasant. However, the food took a long while to come out of the kitchen after ordering. The food is made from scratch here. The dining room also was very busy too. read more

I came here with a few family members on a Sunday night. Their website seems to encourage reservations, so I put in a reservation online to be on the safe side (only took a couple minutes to do). Their reservations assume you'll need an hour and a half, so the latest reservation I could make was 6:30 even though the restaurant was open until 8. This wasn't a problem for us, but useful to be aware of. The location is a bit odd being behind a gas station, but there was plenty of parking. We were seated right away when we arrived. Our server was friendly and didn't take too long coming back to take orders. They do note on the menu that wait times may be longer as they make everything from scratch, but we found our food arrived in about the average wait time. We all found our meals delicious. I personally got the chicken piccata. The chicken breasts were pretty flattened, but still moist and tender. One of the other meals didn't come with much cheese, but when we asked our server about it, she brought out a cheese grater right away and added plenty more (no extra cost). If you have allergy concerns, I personally have a dairy allergy and one of my family members is gluten free. Both of us had no problem finding food to eat, especially because making all the food from scratch meant they can leave off whatever we couldn't have. They offer gluten free bread and pasta, as well as cauliflower rice, for gluten free guests. Lastly, they do offer one free dessert to tables paying in cash. We didn't realize this until ordering dessert and didn't have the cash to do this, but it's something to keep in mind. Overall we enjoyed our dining experience, with the only minor nitpick being that we had to ask for water refills. We'd be happy to come here again. read more
