On Broadway is such a staple of the Helena dining scene that is too often taken for granted. Too bad. This place is still serving creative pasta and seafood dishes--with some mighty fine steaks--and my first visit came over 35 years ago. On a busy holiday evening service remained friendly and prompt. The classic Manhattan is highly recommend. There's also an above par wine list. Everyone loved their entrees--all pasta variations like the veggie pasta special, the Chicken broadway in a light cream sauce, and my fav the chicken and prosciutto pesto over penne pasta. Favorable, prepared correctly, totally filling. Yes On Broadway might be predictable but in all the right ways. It is always on my list for any Helena visit. read more

My husband and I arrived tonight for an early dinner since On Broadway does not take Reservations; therefore occupancy was about 33%. The service in the bar was over 10 minutes just to get his bottle of Bud Light - not acceptable. Upon being seated for dinner our server was delightful and very efficient. Unfortunately my husband's filet minion was medium rare not as he ordered medium well. My featured dinner of Sea Bass was excellent. The wine list is BASIC our suggestion "needs significant improvement". We do enjoy the atmosphere and acoustics. read more

The check in process is a little confusing. Put your name on a list, sit anywhere and they eventually find you to seat you. We had a solid 30 min wait. But spent the time watching the bartenders bust their butts cranking out the drinks. When we were seated we ordered the chicken Broadway and the Gorgonzola pasta. Both were really good. Salads were excellent. Server was great with how many people that where there. We will definitely be back. read more

My husband and I have been going to On Broadway for over 30 years, so we know the food, servers, and experience well. For the last few years, we have noticed a steady decline in the food and service. I thought we would try it again last night as it was my birthday and I generally love the festive feel of the place--big mistake. We got to the new "bar" side 20 minutes or so after they opened, put our name on the list (they don't take reservations, which I think is just laziness on their part) and sat down for a drink. Since it was so early (4:20ish) few people were there. Our surly server dropped off menus, disappeared, returned, took our order, disappeared again and finally returned with the drinks. The wine I ordered was their "premier" offering of the evening and the write up described it as "full bodied" "oaky" and even "chewy". It was, is fact, the exact opposite and even about ready to turn. I finally flagged down our server and told her it was unacceptable. She looked at me like I had 3 heads (had no one ever refused bad wine before?). She begrudgingly took the wine and another server returned, plopped down another glass of wine and turned on her heels. That wine wasn't much better. At this point, and knowing our dinner from past experience could be really good or really awful, we decided to leave. We paid our tab, took or name off the oh-so-special list and went down the street to Benny's Bistro where we had good wine, fresh, local delicious food and efficient, smiling servers. The food was amazing and delicious, and the portions are well worth the money. The staff are so nice and friendly and helpful, and they are very speedy as well, I thought for sure I would be waiting a long time to be seated and then even longer as I was waiting for my food to be prepared, however it was fairly quick for both. I think by the time I got there and was ready to leave, after eating my meal of course I think the wait time was maybe a half hour to forty five minutes. The restaurant was very clean and comfortable and I enjoyed every minute I was there, normally when I eat out I have a hard time cause I don't like when people are so close to my table and I didn't feel uncomfortable here at all so thank you so much for your hard work and hospitality,if you have not been here I highly recommend eating their at least once, you deserve it and trust me you will not regret it. read more

We had a wonderful meal. I had the shrimp & scallops, hubby had the chicken marsala & sister-in-law had the clam linguini. GET THERE BY 4: 30 PM TO GET YOUR NAME ON THE LIST. That's the reason I gave it only 4 stars, cuz it's a bit anxiety provoking if you haven't been there before and don't know how long it will take to get seated when they open at 5 pm for dinner. However, that said, we were seated within 5 minutes of their opening and got a perfect windows seat to watch people outside. Then, a huge wind, rain, and thunderstorm came in and all of a sudden rain was coming inside of the windows and splashing all over the windowseal. The staff was super attentive, brought rags & buckets and moved our table back a foot. They asked if we wanted to move, but watching the rain & thunderstorm was so fun we declined. The storm passed after about 15 min and all was well. We joked that we got dinner and a show! I know the management will be looking into fixing the leaks. I was so super excited to go, I love the atmosphere, the wine, the staff and the food but on this night my food came cold and returned only to receive it back microwaved. If you're looking for a place that is semi fancy but not over extravagant this is the place. It's definitely an upscale place from the average but doesn't feel like you need to wear a suit and tie. We have never had bad food here or service at our table. I asked for something not even on the menu and they rocked it! They had a seafood linguine special a while ago. I used to get it on rice. They don't have that at the moment, but what they made me was really close and very, very good. I ended up with crab and shrimp with asparagus and carrots slices on rice with vodka cream sauce. So, so good!! My only frustration (we have come and sat at the bar no less than 4 times) is the male bartender is not friendly. He gets our drinks, but never smiles or greets us. He acts like maybe he doesn't want to be there. I would think a bartender of all people would be the friendliest in the establishment. Even with the bar service (the girls at the bar are awesome) I rated this place 5 stars because the food is just that good and the fact that they went above and beyond to make a meal for me made me really happy. read more

This restaurant always has good food and a nice atmosphere. All of the service staff I've had have been wonderful and the food is delicious. The only reason I am giving this place four stars instead of five is because of my last visit. I ordered the linguine with meat sauce and my portion was ridiculously small. I would have called it a small children's serving instead of something made for an adult. Add into that the fact that they charged $20 for this tiny serving and I was very disappointed. read more

So had a fabulous experience here. Arrived at 5:15 and had 45 min wait in a Saturday night. We sat in the waiting area at a table and was able to order drinks and apps! Great way to start. We started with antipasto plate. I had king crab for my entree and my friend had the ribeye. Both came to the table promptly. Ribeye cooked to medium as requested and the crab cam cooked perfect and cut down the side. Very little effort to break the crab open! Service was fantastic by our waitress Elli.
