Excellent sandwiches, great place! Service is outstanding. Quality is excellent, daily specials are a bonus.

More than I was expecting. I've been here a few times now, and I like this place. The service is great. It's just a order at the counter deli, but the food is surprisingly tasty. I've ordered the special the last few times. The special rotates each day. They post the upcoming two weeks' specials on a board. Typically these are sandwiches, but I also saw a burger as a special. It is air conditioned, there is a parking lot, and there are tables inside and outside. The dining area is just ok, but the service and food make this a great lunch place. I'll be back. read more

I love this place ! My Go To lunch spot during the pandemic. Friendly staff and yummy sandwiches. High roller and the gambler my top pics .

Don't use their online ordering system, it will ask you what time you would like to pick up which was noon after I placed order at 11am, when I went to pick up my order they had several people in line so I excused myself to ask if my online order was ready, the girl at the cash register said "You'll have to wait in line" the only reason I placed the order online was to quickly pick it up and go unfortunately as slow as they take orders I estimate I would have been on line for 15-20 minutes. It's not like the food is exceptional it's a sandwich shop, I'll take my money and spend it elsewhere thank you very much. read more

Been trying all the little new delis around my new home. Got three sandwiches from this place today. Two Californians and one Gambler. Sorry to say they were pretty bland. none of us ate the second half of our sandwich. Plain bread, plain cheddar, dry turkey and dry roast beef. read more

I am absolutely in love with this place! I usually come during my lunch break since I work nearby. The food is always fresh and the staff is extremely friendly. It is a small local shop, but the selection is big. You can even make custom sandwiches here, which is really chill. The price of the items here is great and affordable! read more

I came across this sandwich shop as a 1st time and was so happy I stopped by. Super friendly locally owned shop. I ordered the 9" Ultimate club i think it was called? WOW it was amazing and the ingredients were fresh and it was made perfectly how I wanted it. I also order the 1/2 Reuben for my fiancé who raved about it as well. Give this place a try and support your local restaurant business as well. I will be back!! read more

Came from out of state for work and really happy we found On the Roll. Great Breakfast Burritos and their Linch time sandwiches are awesome. My buddies and I tried them all and not one complaint from anyone. We ended up going there everyday this week for lunch. Everyone who worked there was great too! When we come back here we have our guaranteed breakfast and lunch spot! read more

This place is the bomb!! Hands down. My work has ordered from this place several times.

I had the Honey Cluck sandwich. It was delicious! The roll was super fresh, the chicken was moist and the honey mustard sauce was just the right amount of sweet and tangy! yum! read more

First time here and this place was amazing. We just moved in to an office space down the way and had heard about it from several people so we decided to try it out. The vibe from right when you walk in is welcoming. You can tell it's a total family-owned environment and we were greeted with a few friendly hello's when we came through the door. Everyone working seemed like they were just having a great day. I ordered the club and my boyfriend ordered the special of the day: a hot ham sandwich. They were both amazing. Everything here is so simple, and that's why we love it. By the time you pick out a soda and a bag of chips, they are bringing you your order. The ingredients were fresh and tasted delicious. This is our new favorite lunch spot. We will def be regulars here! :) read more

If you want the best homemade sandwich you have to go to On A Roll, made just the way your mom used to make. All the ladies that work there are the best and Lou is a good guy read more

Great sandwhich place with fast service. I like that they have a website that they update daily with the daily special. This always includes a drink and chips and full sandwhich for under 7 dollars. Usually call in your order 30 minutes before lunch and it will be ready. Ingrediants are fresh and food taste good. Never had a complaint with the food from this place. Its near a business park so it not that easy to see, but if you drive by it, definately a good place to try. read more

The food here is excellent. They have very reasonable prices. It's by far the best deli in the area. If you haven't been here....GO! If you've already been here....GO AGAIN, and again, and again, and again! read more

A nice little deli that is conveniently located right by our office! Sandwiches are pretty good for the most part (my favorites are the californian, veggie, and chicken salad on squaw bread). I find that I mostly come here for breakfast--only $2.50 for a fresh breakfast sandwich! I like the english muffin, cheddar cheese, and bacon. One of the best parts about this deli is that they have a website where you can check out their daily specials, order online, and set a time to pick it up. Soo convenient! I place my breakfast order, then by the time I get there, it's all ready and takes no time at all. Super super convenient for those mornings I totally forget to pack my own breakfast and need to slip away to grab a quick bite but don't want to be away from my desk for more than 10 minutes. read more

The good part was the customer service - lady behind the counter was very nice. Average tasting sandwich that left me still hungry because it was so small... I normally wouldnt complain about that alone if it wasn't for the fact that the daily special cost me over $9!!! (Small sandwich, small can of soda, small chips) "Specials" should be $4-7 max, not all of us are rich executives. If they had priced their food Fairly, theyd have a new customer for years to come. read more

One of those great "industrial area" deli's. They of course cater to the local businesses which is why they close at like 3pm. This is my only complaint. There have been several evenings when I had a jones for one of their sandwiches, but was left wanting. I would say that ON a Roll is a notch better than most every other little deli I have tried. The food is always fresh and plentiful and doesn't taste like something I could pull out of my own fridge at home. Be aware that around lunch (11:30-1pm) this place gets packed, but somehow always manages to get me out fast. You gotta try the "Holiday Harvest" sandwich which is all the best things left over from thanksgiving dinner! (roasted turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce with cheddar and a little mayo on squaw bread)Hmmmmmmmmm (Drool on Shirt!) read more

I found this place in the industrial park in carlsbad. Its a small little sandwhich show that is always busy!... I know eat here twice a week! Well priced, fresh sandwhiches... Homemade soups that are very tasty... Friendly staff and overall a good lunch experience... Call in your order for even faster service! read more

Just because I'm thin doesn't mean I don't get hungry! Tried On a Roll for the second time today, not going back for a third. I didn't find the staff to be as friendly as everyone says and the sandwiches are nothing special. I ordered a club sandwich and the woman who took my order said that a half club is actually a whole sandwich and asked me if would I like that instead. She actually down-sold me on a smaller sandwich - thats a first! I said okay, not knowing I would get a regular old ham and turkey sandwich with just one slice of turkey on it. I immediately regretted not getting the whole after paying and asked if I could do the 1/2 sandwich, soup combo and she said I couldn't because the 1/2 club is the same as a whole sandwich. Really lady? Because you might lose .50 cents on a cup of soup you prevented a customer of trying your "soup du jour", quite possibly the only reason for that customer to ever return. I just finished eating my tiny ham and turkey sandwich and I know I'll be hungry again in an hour. Thanks a lot On a Roll, you ruined my lunch hour. read more

On A Roll - 1/2 club with one slice of turkey :-( - Sandwiches Near Me - Carlsbad, California

I've "checked in" here so many times before Yelp ever existed, probably 300+ times since 2000. You will never run out of choices or friendly faces. My go to for years was the Earl's Combo w/ extra Italian dressing... the combo of the mayo and Italian make it a creamy ish dressing with salami, ham and provolone. The specials are often inspired and they throw new specials in with all of the specials the regulars love... I.e... The Rockwell, The Cuban and the sandwich I just had was tasty too... it was a pastrami and swiss on a pretzel roll with purple onion, dill pickle and honey mustard... I took some of the onion off but it was delicious! If you're looking for the most classic, simple and amazing breakfast burrito... the potatoes in this burrito make me swell with tears of joy... throw on some tapatio and you've got the perfect breakfast! read more

This place is awesome! Absolutely love that it's just down the street from where I work. The staff is so friendly and their sandwiches are delicious. My personal favorites are the "Californian" and the "High Roller." Also, the red lobster bisque is a must have when it's on the soup special. All the staff and clients at my work enjoy coming to this deli. Love that the staff truly makes an effort to get to know their customers! Love you guys at On A Roll! read more

Hands down the best sandwich spot in Carlsbad. I have a hard time going anywhere else. I have a couple usuals that I stick to but you can't really go wrong with anything off their menu. I'm in love with the bread they use and the meat is always hand carved. Tamara is the sweetest and always knows how to put a smile on my face. Great staff!Highly recommend this lovely gem to anyone looking for a new lunch spot to be addicted to! read more

What a great spot hidden in a office park. I happened upon On a Roll one day and stopped to buy my workers lunch. The Hawaiian spoke to me and I ordered up for everyone. They raved about it! The ham, pineapple, Swiss and honey mustard in this gem made a delicious combo. We added Turkey this time and super Yum! Looks like a family place with a busy regular clientele and great menu. Super clean and well organized. Can hardly wait to go back. read more

I am partial to family-owned and operated businesses (restaurants and the like). Maybe its the midwesterner in me? Whatever it is, there is some charm to it in a world of franchises and chains. Its hidden away in a commercial park but draws on a very loyal customer base. Highlights: - Special of the day - always $6.50 and includes sandwich, drink, and chips. Its different every day, with a board indicating the special every day for a two week period. My buddy orders it almost every day. The specials are very infrequently recycled, so it really feels like they never repeat. - Daily trivia question - new question every day. You almost never know the answer, but worth a try. The prize is a free cookie. - Friendly staff! I live in Chicago and only go once, maybe twice on a really good week and they still know my name. They ask about old team members that have since left the project I'm on. Its the kind of attention to detail you never get at a chain 'sandwich factory'. read more

I just started working in the area, and I friend of mine recommended it because she knows I love turkey and cranberry sandwiches..,,and their Holiday Harvest is the best, makes it Thanksgiving year round. Today I tried the ham and pineapple on a roll (not even a ham fan) and it is wonderful. The staff is always friendly and efficient, I hope to become one of the customers they call by name, and am also hoping to get them to deliver to my work at least once a week, I know my guys here will love them as well...along with the incredibly reasonable prices. Keep up the good work read more

Located amidst the bland office buildings of Carlsbad, you would never expect that this tiny little nondescript sandwich shop is actually a wonderful lunch spot. They offer soups, salads and, of course, sandwiches. I ordered the Californian sandwich: turkey, avocado, bacon, cheddar cheese, mayo, mustard, lettuce, and tomato all on sourdough. The ingredients were fresh, the bread was just the right amount of soft - although cut a bit thick for my liking - and the bacon was crispy and flavorful, adding great texture to the sandwich. The portion size was generous, and there was plenty of turkey. If you don't find a sandwich that you like from their extensive menu, you can always make your own. Service is friendly and quick: my sandwich was made in less than 5 minutes. I will definitely be coming back during my lunch hours. What can I say, I'm a fan. read more

Just moved to Carlsbad from the Midwest and was looking for a good Deli (McCallister's like) and came across this place. Small diner feel but the soups are AMAZING! I had the Baja enchilada soup and tried the Mushroom Brie Bisque and both were delicious. What prompted me to write this review (besides the great food) was the customer service. When I tried to tip the cashier (because she let me sample the soups) she promptly gave the tip back and said "We are just grateful for your business". I was very impressed and I plan on being a regular here. read more

Loved the selection of sandwiches!! This is definitely a legit sandwich shop! Came back twice and enjoy the yummy sandwich both times

Carlsbad club was very good. Almost had that "good ol how momma used to make it" taste about it. I came here expecting a generic sandwich and was impressed. I do recommend you ask for light mayo. Not sure what brand they used by its strong flavor. Music is just slightly above the ambiance which is ideal. I will be coming back here again very soon. Next to try the breakfast. If that rocks then I'll bump to 4/5 read more

Awesome food awesome customer service. Everyone is so friendly. Great variety of food and although I have a tendency to gravitate to the same thing I am sure that even if it was half as good as my choice of sandwiches it would be absolutely delicious. The sandwiches are definitely made with love and I can't wait to come back and eat lunch here again! Please stop by and give it a try you won't be disappointed. read more

This place is so so so good. I just started working down the street and was looking for new places to eat. I've found it. Small shop located in the business park off Airport Road, look for the Coke umbrellas! The owners and staff are super friendly and patient. The Holiday Harvest sandwich is AMAZING, I eat every bite! They also have a daily special (Tri tip, roasted pork loin etc) that is pretty incredible but get there early because they sell out! read more

On A Roll is great! Within walking distance of my work. I find myself craving a sandwich and going there weekly. The employees are friendly. The main cashier has made the effort to remember my name, which shows me that I'm not just another customer. The sandwiches are delicious. The Californian is my favorite so far. You cant go wrong with Turkey, bacon, and avocado. There's a nice balance of all the ingredients, nothing overpowering. You can order a full or half sandwich. If you have a short lunch or need your order to-go, I recommend calling your order in. read more
