Stayed at the nearby Holiday Inn searched for breakfast and lunch takeout On A Roll popped up. Looked good! So I stopped by and was greeted by a friendly couple. I was looking for a morning meal and a sandwich for later. The gentleman suggested the breakfast sandwich and a Full House sandwich for later. Well let me tell you. The breakfast sandwich was let's just say "yum!" I inhaled it! And later that day ate the Full House. "What a Winner!" I found this place through Yelp of course. Super fast and friendly service close to work. I usually get the specials because they always sound so yummy I haven't ventured off to try anything else yet. I've had their carnitas wrap and the BBQ ham sandwich. I was surprised that the cashier almost remembered my name from my first visit nearly a month prior. The food is authentic and homemade with fresh ingredients, compared to big chain sandwich shops. The carnitas wrap was in a flour tortilla with Pico and cheese. Usually I'm not a huge carnitas fan but the meat was moist and all the ingredients complimented each other. Bbb smoked ham - I typically wouldn't put BBQ sauce on a deli meat ham sandwich but this was actually yummy. It was topped with Cole slaw on a tasty egg onion roll. This sandwhich was huge! I maintained self control and only ate half and I finished the rest for different and it tasted even better! I'm not sure how I'll lose weight with this place because next week's specials sound so enticing! read more

I love the Californian and whenever they make the Rockefeller sandwich, I always order more than one (one to eat for lunch, one for dinner). I tried On A Roll as part of my recent exploration of Carlsbad office park delis. I've been twice now, with two good sandwiches under my belt, eh, so to speak... On my first visit I went for the Full House, with roast beef, turkey and bacon on squaw bread. As I'd read ahead of time on YELP, the squaw bread was awesome - soft and sweet and sandwich perfect. The Full House was a solid sandwich, and was very well executed. My only "beef" with the deli on this visit was that the dude behind the counter gave me grief for asking for a cup of water and saying no to chips. He tried to cover up the awkwardness with humor ("unlimited free refills on your water") but his annoyance led to my own. Easy with the hard sell. On my second visit my buddy had the Turkey Gyro and I had the High Roller with hot turkey, green chilis, horseradish and jack cheese on sourdough. I thought this sandwich, too, was great. Probably my fave so far. The horseradish and chilis really popped - the sandwich really worked. Made my day. The setting is very no frills, very utilitarian. There isn't really too much to distingish On a Roll from other places, but the quality and service are both good. Best of all is that the menu has lots of options you wont really find elsewhere nearby, even though they aren't all that crazy. Good place. I'd go here over the newer flashier places across Palomar Airport Road in Bressy Ranch. read more

My coworker, who loves board n brew, was skeptical of this little store. It took couple of tries to convince her to switch it up from the typical board n brew order, and to her surprise, she loved the sandwich from this store. She said the quality ingredients truly makes a difference and the care put into crafting the sandwich can be tasted. On a roll is a small little store located away from the main street. I am writing this review while finishing my delicious cookie from on the roll. I love sandwiches, but it's very rare for me to rave about a sandwich, but on a roll is different, they have a certain je ne sais quoi about them. Most sandwich places nowadays are all about how much crazy items can you pack into two slices of bread, but here at On a Roll it's all about the QUALITY of not only the ingredients, but of the care they put into crafting their menu. You really can't go wrong with anything you order, but my go to is the Californian on Squaw. Their squaw is fantastic, not like some others who can be dry where you need a special sauce to eat it with. Also the owner really turned me on to the Californian when they guy in front of me ordered it without avocado one time. The guy called it "green mush" and the owner promptly replied, "you're in California son, this is best "mush" you can get." Other must haves include their Red Rock Crab Bisque...OMG it's delicious. It's only there sometimes, so when it is, ORDER IT! Also don't forget to leave with a cookie! My go to's are the Snickerdoodle and Chocolate Chip, and they are only 0.40 a piece, practically a steal when I believe these cookies can go toe to toe with more famous bakeries around the area. Lastly the staff is amazing. They always greet you with a smile like they have known you forever, it's really comforting in this tiny business park. read more

More than I was expecting. I've been here a few times now, and I like this place. The service is great. It's just a order at the counter deli, but the food is surprisingly tasty. I've ordered the special the last few times. The special rotates each day. They post the upcoming two weeks' specials on a board. Typically these are sandwiches, but I also saw a burger as a special. It is air conditioned, there is a parking lot, and there are tables inside and outside. The dining area is just ok, but the service and food make this a great lunch place. I'll be back. read more
