This is often a tough thing to find in HK. Rum is not too common here. The menu looked interesting but not really my type of food. A wide selection of choices at good prices. Where as the other stellar spots offer a more intimate experience and tighter spaces, PDP is wide open with their layout. So wide as a matter of fact, that they're one of the few places that can truly be outdoor and indoor at the same time. Plenty of folks come here to booze, chill, and people watch, all of which could be considered pastimes of mine. Start it off with their specialty sangrias (hello rosé sangria), which aren't limited to red and white, but also beer as well. The latter is a bit of a surprise, and the taste is an extra kick (ginger beer?) that makes less beer-y but more cocktail'y. The rest of the drinks are mainly beers, frozen drinks, martinis, and cocktails. There are mocktails available for the non-alcoholic folks and a decent wine selection for people who aren't feeling the sangria. Pro-Tip: Happy Hour goes from 12pm-9pm. That's nine hours of easy drinking bliss. Food wise, I would venture their menu is more international than it is basque. Spanish tapas are certainly available here but they have pastas, pizzas, and sandiwches that are a solid complement to the drinks. Anything with their imported Iberico Ham is a safe be and the paella is extremely filling. The weekends can get pretty crowded and on some days they rock football / soccer matches. Bank on the friendly service (which is never a guarantee in HK) and do yourself a favor and indulge in their weekday happy hour and/or discounted brunch (30% off!).

Delicious sangria by the pitcher - full or half - with over 30 flavours sure to please. Some notables are the lychee, chocolate, and piña colada. I've also really enjoyed their Hot Ginger martini. Great for a cooler evening when the wind is blowing. Speaking of wind, ask for a shawl if you're cool. They're on the 18th floor, and it does get breezy up there, so take advantage of the house-provided scarves to keep the chill at bay. Prices can be a bit high and on evenings to sit outside there is a minimum $180/head drink order. Still, it's not hard to spend that, and I'd say it's worth it.

If you order food at bar, that doesn't count towards your $180 minimum spend. Now, I never thought I was a cheap person but when I'm being told that I can't sit outside in a free low dinner table because I opted for the "bar" table minimum spend, that makes me a little angry. Especially when it was violently windy and almost impossible to sit on the bar tables facing the harbour. I Went here with my friends because we had a friend visiting Hong Kong for a few days and I thought it would be a nice relaxed evening admiring the view and drinking sangria. Yeah we covered the minimum charge but it was thoroughly annoying to be told in an offhand remark, as I ordered a snack of croquettes, that those croquettes would "not be covered in your minimum spend". How am I meant to enjoy my night when I'm being reminded about money? We literally had to calculate whether or not our two jugs of sangria, 7 shots of tequila and own personal drinks covered the minimum spend. Also I noticed they upped the price of their sangria jugs. They used to be max $300 now they're around $480+ and you still only get a meagre 8 short cups. The croquettes were fine, overpriced sticks of gooey crumbed cheese. We hated the vibe so after achieving our minimum charge (LOL) we went for KBBQ just down the road. Not returning anytime soon.

A buddy suggested it for our Sunday brunch venue, and I was down for trying somewhere new in the neighbourhood. Down the steps of Shin Hing Street, you'll find a plethora of restaurants, from Cocote to The Mixing Bowl, along with some funky galleries and shops. It's one of my favourite streets in Hong Kong to explore with its shady trees and eclectic cred. Basically, I was already in a happy mood and I walked into the most gorgeous restaurant with a cool atmosphere. If you're like me, and have a thing for all things kookie, you'll love the tiles to the hand drawn artwork on the walls to the toilet doors. I made my way upstairs, thinking my pal would already be there, he wasn't ... But the waiter was... And he spoke wiz ze French accent. *heart melt*. I adore an accent, and it just made me appreciate the restaurant even more as it offers French cuisine by French people. Hells yes. I was really after eggs today, and boy was there a selection. I opted for the poached egg with wild asparagus and Parma ham. Bon oeuf, they were spectacular. The eggs were perfectly runny, maybe even verging on scrambled yet poached (we have coined the phrase scroached) with a salty flavour from the Parma ham that hit every tastebud and sent it tingling. The asparagus was fresh and crunchy, adding another layer to the dish. Served alongside the meal is a basket of the bread baked fresh in the kitchen with a dob of salted butter that is out of this world. I mean, butter is butter right... Wait till you've tasted this butter. It was so scrumptious I even asked where it's from. Sadly the server didn't know, but I think it's a ruse to keep us going back (although I was offered some for takeaway). Finally, I have to make mention of my ice latte. It was spectacular, with a little sweetness and coffee beans as decoration, it was the perfect combination to my utterly delectable meal. Merci bien, I will return to sample their dinner menu (I mean cheese!).

I can't remember because I had ordered the eggs benedict which I thoroughly enjoyed. My husband had the thinly cut iberico jambon. Overall, I enjoyed my meal here, and would come back. My company said that they thought that the food wasn't spectacular and that they could simply create the same food in their home. I'd rather have someone make it for me. LOL. Its a small place so maybe 9 - 10 people would be the biggest group they could accommodate comfortably. We had 8 people. I'd imagine that you could rent out the second story for a small gathering of about 20 people. They also have a wine cellar on the second floor! Enjoy!

(#1) The Moyo brand has since grown into a number of other projects that have spanned across the city but it all started right here in Central. Like any of restaurant in the neighborhood, seating is tight. The government restrictions over the last couple of years have made it even tighter, resulting in discounted delivery through various local platforms. Indoor dining is back again, but one never truly knows when a future shutdown is happening. The food has remained high end, seasonal, and completely different from the usual dining options in HK. Whether it's been seasonal truffle tofu-toasts, carbonara infused tteokboki, or their winter friendly Korean style sashimi (bang-eo hwae), it's all very good. A personal favorite is their uni rice, which is quite modest in portion size (#2) but straight bangin' in flavor and texture. And unlike many other Korean restaurants, they have a nice Italian selection of wine that pairs quite well with the dishes. While it's been marketed as a fusion establishment, they also do a very good job in representing traditional options as well. Their bossam ssam plate with samgyupsal (pork belly) is tasty and while not always available, jajangmyun is a nice comfort food option. While I no longer live in Hong Kong to enjoy them, I still applaud their efforts from afar. While the food landscape / foreign community is rapidly changing as we speak, I hope they can continue to remain relevant during uncertain times. ______________ (#1) Italian, Korean. Moyo is right across the street from PMQ so if you see PMQ and see a tiny restaurant across the street that is Moyo. We ordered: Marinated Tofu Salad (Lotus root, purple sweet potato, apple): Lotus root was deep fried which provided a crispy contrast in texture to the soft tofu, apple and purple sweet potato gave it a hint of sweetness Drunken Clams (Rice wine Makgeolli, garlic, lemon zest, chili): Clams were cooked perfectly and we were so happy we got this. Kimchi pork pancake (minus the pork): I'm ALWAYS a fan of kimchi pancake. Even though the pancake could stand to be a teeny bit more crispy at the ends, I loved the kimchi flavor. Brussels Sprouts (Korean dwaenjang paste, almonds, peanut butter): This was stir fried and not roasted as I originally thought it would be. I'm not really a fan of stir fried brussels sprouts but it was interesting with the peanut butter taste which I could barely detect because the dwaenjang paste was stronger. The dishes here were more tapas size and I'm glad we ordered that many dishes. Service was on point and friendly. Moyo is a small and cozy restaurant (you're almost elbow to elbow) with a typical tiny bathroom. A definite place I'll need to try again for the kimchi disco fries and Korean Fried Chicken (sorry Alex, I'll not bring you next time, maybe someone else who is a carnivore).

Much like sik siu, since the eaters are of high exertion, the food would most naturally be as trashy as can be~ Healthy eaters might want to hit the return button now as the foods may be despicably fattening. Deep fried is almost the golden rule for every trashy food, even in Hong Kong; the famous shrimp toast is actually minced shrimp smeared on a piece of bread and deep fried to crunchy perfection; and you got it, the piece of bread is soaked with grease. To make it even more damaging, mayonnaise is served on the side for you to dip the toast in. Damaging as it seems, but it is also very gratifying and is often the dish that is cleared the soonest. Hing Gung is often an event of the nights and there aren't a lot of joint cater to this batch of customers at this time of the day. I still remember walking into this shop with the waiter asking us to wait outside the shop at 11 in the evening, while they were trying hard to rearrange the tables to sit the 15 of us down. For a restaurant that is still crowded towards midnight, you know they must have done something right.
