    Veggie Samosa

The ambiance caught our attention as we were passing by, so we decided to stop in for an early dinner. Because it is a vegan restaurant, we were initially very excited, but the experience turned into a bit of a roller coaster ride. Seating & Atmosphere The Wait: The server made us wait 5 minutes to be seated, despite there being many empty tables. The Seating: We were placed at the open bar area tables. They have an indoor area with larger tables, which is likely why we weren't offered a choice. The Vibe: The music was loud and not to our taste. It is a small space, so I guess the high volume is meant to give tables some conversational privacy. The Food The prices are on the higher side, especially for the portion sizes, though the food ended up being quite filling. Here are the dishes we ordered: 1. Veg 'Clam' Chowder (4.5/5): The soup was great, with lots of vegetables and a perfect celery flavor. The server recommended that we squeeze the lemon given with it, and it really enhanced the soup. However, the paired bread was doughy and didn't taste good. 2. Veggie Samosa (3.5/5): Prepared like a puff pastry instead of a traditional deep-fried snack. The samosa itself was again really good but the tamarind chutney was too sour and subdued the flavor of the samosa. 3. Cheesecake with Strawberries (1.5/5): The cheesecake itself wasn't great, and the bitter chocolate and syrupy strawberry sauces made it worse. Worse yet, the blueberries and cut strawberry garnishes were stale. Seeing old fruit made me wonder about the freshness of the rest of their raw ingredients. Service The service was slow and inattentive. It took over 10 minutes just to place our dessert order, and another 10 minutes for it to arrive. On the positive side, our water was refilled promptly throughout the night. The Verdict Revisit Rating: 3.5/5 (Worth a second chance, as there are many other interesting dishes on the menu we want to try). Pro Tip: Skip the dessert entirely! We absolutely regretted ordering it.

A great spot offering plenty of gluten-free and vegan options near Civic Center! My friend and I stopped by this spot on a Friday during Happy Hour to grab some quick bites. Since this is near the Civic Center, spots are limited, so public transit is the best way to get here! Inside was very aesthetically pleasing and inviting, with the windows stretching up the wall to the ceiling, and a modern bar. At that moment, we weren't really looking for drinks, just bites, so I do not have any opinions yet on their drink selection. We ordered the "crab" arancini, which came with jackfruit, lemon garlic, salsa macha aioli, and guajillo, and the barbacoa nachos. The arancini was okay, and did not stand out as much as I would have liked. The panko crust on it was on the thicker side, so it had a bit of a harder exterior, but I will say I did like how well the jackfruit was incorporated and added depth to the dish. I wish that I could taste a bit more of that lemon in the lemon garlic. The barbacoa nachos were delicious, and I liked how they paired the nachos with jalapenos and pickled onions for a nice flavor composition. The jackfruit blended well and added some savory, "meaty" flavoring to the dish that worked. Overall, for a restaurant that specializes in vegan food, this was a great choice! I thought the service was great as well, and they were very accommodating to our party when it came to dietary needs, which is always appreciated.

I really enjoyed this place - the food was just simply so good. I got the ceviche tostadas (everything is vegan at Om Sabor). Kind of a fancy place--service was okay. Would come back with friends, but going there alone did not feel as welcoming as it could have.

The food here is exceptional and it's all vegan! It's technically a vegan bar, but I don't drink and I still had a great time. There are tables in the back room that's quite dark, so it would be a nice date spot. But the front area has tables that are more well lit. The only thing I wasn't into was the music. But I'd still go back.

Vegan spot for those who follow that lifestyle! I am not a vegan but the food was pretty good, especially impressed with the mac and cheese. Drinks were alright, everything a little pricey. Neighborhood is okay, parking wasn't difficult and there was no wait. Service was quick, ambiance was dark. I've been here for their evening phonobar and that vibe seems a little bit more fitting.

Last night I went with a friend to Om Sabor before walking over to see the Nutcracker a couple blocks away. We dined on some delightful small bites from the eclectic (and fully vegan) menu from Om Sabor. We tried: 1. "choriqueso" empanadas: housemade soyrizo, potato, coconut mozzarella, chipotle pinto beans, cilantro-radish slaw. These empanadas were way more filling than I was expecting. Probably because the masa dough was a bit thick, but really tasty flavor and I loved the fresh slaw and refried beans. 2. Fig "cheese" tart: caramelized onions, red wine reduction figs, arugula, garlic confit tofu ricotta, balsamic glaze, on puff pastry. This was our favorite bite of the night! So well balanced - sweet and savory with that flaky pastry. 3. "Crab" arancini: arborio rice, lemon garlic jackfruit, guajillo, salsa macha aioli. Also a standout! Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with tasty sauces. I wouldn't necessarily say it tasted like crab but it tasted delicious! 4. "Clam" chowder: oyster + king trumpet mushrooms, cremini bacon, celery, potato, carrot, garlic confit, cashew bechamel, crostini. Sooo creamy and comforting, this was a really hearty bowl of chowda! Again, don't go into it expecting it to taste like clams but rather like a scrumptious creamy mushroom soup which is what I was craving. A must-try! 5. Drink: "grapefruit moon" cocktail with grapefruit, serrano rosemary syrup, lime, and tequila. Nicely tart with a hint of smoky spice, we both really enjoyed this drink. This was a fantastic meal and I'm surprised I don't see Om Sabor mentioned more often in lists of vegan places to eat in San Francisco because the food was impressively good and the atmosphere was really cool - dim but not so dark you can't see the menu, with plants and gold accents, very chic. We sat at the bar and the bartender who served us was very friendly and our food came out incredibly promptly. My friend (who is not vegan) enjoyed the meal thoroughly so I would recommend Om Sabor to vegans and omnivores alike!

SERVICE - located near civic center - parking can be hard to find since there are a lot of popular events nearby. there are a few lots available within a 10 minute walk - no reservations - bar area in the front and seating at smaller tables in the back - ambiance good for a date night or intimate meal with a smaller group - service was friendly though never came to check on us to fill water or clear our plates during our meal. for a restaurant that is marketed as slightly upscale, I was hoping for something more personable - food served relatively quickly MENU - global selection of large and small shareable - all vegan/vegetarian - slightly pricey FOOD - crab arancini (8/10): three crispy rice and jackfruit balls topped with pickled onion on a bed of spicy aioli. This was a wonderful appetizer. We asked for an extra ball since we went as a party of four. The filling has a slight acidity and freshness that feels like an elevated version of a nostalgic dish. I would recommend getting this to share. - beet pesto salad (7/10): roasted beetroot with arugula, tofu ricotta, pistachio pesto, and Parmesan. I was craving something fresh and green to pair with the snacky items we were getting. Our server recommended this to us and although it seemed simple I liked how each ingredient shone. The tofu ricotta was a creamy base with a strong punch of lemon. I did not get much dill in it though. I also got no pesto throughout the entire plate even though it was had pesto in the name. - pesto mac and cheese (7/10): pasta and butternut squash in a creamy sauce topped with breadcrumbs. Had this been called just mac and cheese I would have ranked it much higher. Similar to the salad there was no pesto to be found. I did enjoy the addition of butternut squash for sweetness to balance the cashew cream sauce. - truffle mushroom au gratin (5/10): roasted oyster mushroom and vegetables on a red wine sauce with a stack of scallop potatoes. The description for this was quite different than what we were served. When I imagine an au gratin, I think of something baked in a skillet that is warm and bubbling. This was small pieces on a plate. The mushrooms and vegetables were okay but not spectacular. I enjoyed the potatoes and wished they were an appetizer on their own. - strawberry and cream cuernito (6/10): puff pastry crescent filled with coconut custard and strawberry jam with a side of chocolate ice cream. This was the only dessert available. In theory the components all worked well together, but I felt like the actual execution could have been improved. For a dish with strawberry in the name, there was almost no strawberry in the pastry. I also would have preferred a warm chocolate sauce instead of the ice cream. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! I really liked the concept and the ambiance and would want to try it again for a hopefully higher review

    Flautas and Ceviche Tostadas

I've had Om Sabor on my bookmarks for the longest time so when we had tickets to a show at Davies, I knew that would be the chance to go! My friend and I shared two plates, a dessert, and got a drink each and it was the perfect early dinner before our show. We went with the jackfruit flautas which were exceptionally convincing as "chicken" flautas. The flavors were punchy, the flautas were done right - crispy on the outside but soft and savory on the inside. We also opted for the ceviche tostadas done with trumpet mushrooms. Again, the flavors were spot on. In this instance, it was much more obvious that we weren't eating meat, but without knowing that it was mushrooms, we also couldn't place it. We cleaned it up with the Tres Leches done with three non-dairy milks, nice! It was on the coconutty side but not overwhelmingly so. It was decadent and fully saturated, just how a tres leche ought to be. The funny part was that there was some misplaced micro greens on top, and I sure hope that was a mistake but also...Hayes valley, it wouldn't surprise me either. Overall, my friend and I really enjoyed it!

The service from start to finish was spectacular. The ambiance of this restaurant/bar was elegant and nice. But the food...the food was the star. We ordered a little of everything as we are crazy vegans. lol. This place is an all vegan restaurant which we love and appreciate. We brought our non vegan friends here as well and they loved everything. They have a happy hour menu as well from 3-5 with $8 prices. The cocktails were great. I got the plum thing and my husband got the coconut one, both off their happy hour. Highly recommend coming here and will visit again.

After a long night of exploring SF, I decided to come to this fully vegan bar/restaurant. It was so delicious! My partner and I shared the carne asada nachos and the Om Burger. The ambiance was so moody and fancy. The vibes were great! The food was genuinely phenomenal. My partner isn't vegan or vegetarian and he still to this day raves about this place. 100% would recommend.

Obsessed with the pickle cocktail, the crab arancini was nice and crunchy, the tostada was a bit difficult to eat and was more on the sour side, the tacos were pretty filling! Really cool that everything was vegan Really nice dark and intimate vibes for a cocktail and a bite before catching a show. On the pricier side for sure tho

Om Sabor was an incredible plant-based dining experience that left my heart feeling happy and taste buds extremely satisfied. They offer open seating in their bar area, back room, and even outside. Once seated, our waiter came over to give us all the menus including their weekday happy hour (17:00 - 19:00), mains, and drinks. We started with their Carne Asada Tacos and Ceviche Tostadas from the happy hour menu. Both were phenomenal. The ceviche was fresh on top of crispy corn tortilla and the mock carne asada was flavorful that you really couldn't tell it apart from the meat version. For our mains, we shared a few items for the table including the Carne Asada Nachos, Oyster Mushroom Calamari (HIT!), Crispy Mushroom Potato Gratin (heavenly), and their Teriyaki Chicken Skewers. Every single item we had was delicious, well executed, and surprisingly very filling which was good since the pricing is higher being in the city. I would go back for anything mushroom related especially that calamari - one of my favorite crispy mushroom dishes. We had a fantastic experience and I am eager to return to try more of their dishes and drinks.

While we were waiting for our table, we saw 2-3 couples get turned away. The restaurant is small, but the interior is well-decorated. It pays homage to HK posters, music, and culture. They offer two complimentary small bites of smashed cucumber and peanuts. - XO Escargot: a must order, the dish only comes with 6 pieces but it's so worth it. The sauce is garlicky, buttery, and each bite with the milk bread is so good. The bread also has a crispy outer layer while the inside is super soft. - Eggplant: at first, we thought the dish was good, but the pieces on the bottom that soaks up all the sauce makes the eggplant full of umami flavor. This paired so good with rice. - Mapo Tofu Spaghetti: just as you imagine, but very yummy. I wish there was more of a numbing spice personally! - Black Pepper Steak: The steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare and the sauce was very yummy. This dish did not blow me away like some of the others but was still good nonetheless. I really wished we could have try the Singapore Chili Crab, but that would have been too much food. Our server was also fantastic and so kind, I wish I caught her name. Will def be back!

Overhyped, Salty, and a Disappointment for Cantonese Food Lovers…read more I wanted to love this place, but unfortunately, my experience at Four Kings was a huge letdown. It felt like a classic case of an overhyped restaurant failing to deliver on the fundamentals, from service to the food itself. Service: The service was disorganized and unwelcoming from the start. I arrived before the restaurant opened and was told I could wait inside for the restroom, only to be immediately contradicted by another staff member who sent me back outside. Later, while we were in the middle of our meal and looking at the menu to order more food, a waitress abruptly snatched the menu from our view and stood it upright, which felt incredibly rude. The confusion continued when we tried to pay; flagging down a staff member for the bill was met with a look of surprise, despite the lack of assigned servers. Food: As someone who grew up with Cantonese and Hong Kong cafe-style food, I found the cooking here to be a poor representation of the cuisine. The overwhelming characteristics of every dish were salty and greasy. The beef chow fun was so oily that it became unappetizing after just a few bites. The pork chop rice with tomato egg, a classic comfort dish, was nothing special and suffered from the same issues: too much salt, too much grease, and a price tag that didn't match the quality. This is fusion food that misses the mark and, frankly, is a huge disservice to the real flavors of Cantonese cooking. Ambiance: The restaurant seems to be going for a nostalgic 90s "四大天王" (Four Heavenly Kings) theme, but the execution is messy. The walls are plastered with a random collection of posters from various singers and eras that have no connection to each other. Instead of feeling like a thoughtful tribute to a specific time, it comes off as a cluttered and generic attempt at creating a "vibe." Overall: If you're new to this type of cuisine, you might be impressed by the bold (albeit one-note) flavors. But if you're looking for authentic, well-executed Cantonese food, this isn't it. The combination of confusing service, overly salty food, and a forced ambiance made for a truly disappointing experience. I would not recommend it.
