The servers are fabulous and welcoming- the average rating is the food. We had the fresh guacamole and chips. Generous portion and the guacamole was tasty and had a decent texture, but the chips were stale. Hubs had the seafood platter- lots of food in this -be sure to share-and the calamari was very nice, but the shrimp and fish just average- not remarkable or roll your eyes in the back of your head good. I had the spicy Thai chicken wrap. The spicy peanut dressing was flavorful and the greens and sprouts were fresh, however, the chicken was incredibly dry. The Mac salad- was delicious. On my way to the airport I stopped here for the first time but not the last. I ordered the chop and egg scramble with a Bloody Mary from another planet. Good service and a friendly server. I sat a table overlooking the street and observed the comings and goings. I was near the bar and listened too the locals. Very entertaining. Can't wait to return in the spring. read more

We came to Olympic cafe twice for breakfast. I got the same thing both times since it was so good. Definitely worth the money. One time I got pineapple juice, and the other time I got POG juice. My wife enjoyed the wrap with fresh fruit. Service was fast and friendly both times as well. We will definitely be back when we come back to Kauai. This was our pre-COVID place. Great bar, great food, and we always came back. After COVID they only served breakfast and lunch. No dinner. Prices soared to all time highs, and you could tell the business is still struggling after 4 years. Sad, sad, sad. Surprised by all the bad reviews! We had a great experience. Came here at 10:30 am on a Wednesday and were seated promptly with a great seat overlooking the street with views of the mountains. Our waitress was efficient and friendly and food came out super fast. We ordered the banana macadamia nut pancakes and the kalua pork omelette and we both enjoyed our dishes. Food was good, nothing fancy, what was disappointing was ordering a side of linguica sausage, you'll get- 4 small slices for $6.50! Not even a whole sausage. Wasn't impressed. The plate was bigger than what was on the plate. Chef should of been ashamed for even sending it out. Hawaiian sweet bread French toast was nice, but nothing fancy, presentation was nothing. This should have been done on 3/8/2023 but better late than never. So this was my first visit to a Hawaiian Island. We selected Kauai, which was supposed to be less busy than the big island. One day we decided to go to breakfast at a place that my son's fiancé recommended. When we got there it was closed (their regularly scheduled day off). This was a huge disappointment so we decided to shop until we could figure out what we all wanted to eat. After shopping for a couple hours, we decided to grab lunch and wasn't quite sure where we wanted to go or what we wanted to eat. Then we looked up and saw this great balcony restaurant. We decided to take a view minutes to relax and enjoy our first meal of the day. This was an amazing find. It's not enough to say the food was delicious and that we got a lot of food for the price, I need to add pics for this. The burrito was HUGE!!! I ordered pineapple juice; I kept saying, this juice is so delicious it tasted as though they literally placed a spigot in a pineapple and filled my glass with juice. The Fish n Chips was amazing; I had fish n Chips at another restaurant near the beach and the fish was chewy; but not at Olympic Cafe; the fish was perfect. We have a home on Kauai and we visit the island regularly. This is our first stop when we get off the plane, even before we go home. Then it's at least once a week while we are staying here. The fish and chips (or shrimp and chips) are outstanding. The ahi furikake is an incredible bargain and I am addicted to their "Aniki" Mai Tais. This is a local watering hole with local clientele and local sensibilities, so you should leave your fussy Southern California expectations at home (you know who I mean.) Just take a deep breath and relax. Your server will get to you, your drinks will be strong and your fish and chips will be awesome! Live aloha! read more

Very disappointed in this last visit to the Olympic cafe. Were on are way to take a washer to the north shore and told the wife let's stop and have breakfast. She likes the banana nut pancakes. We walked in and were sat down. We waited 5 minutes for water and another 5 min for the waitress to come over and take are orders. There were only 4 tables at the time and five waitresses talking and laughing at the bar. Finally she took are order and went back to the bar to visit the other waitress. Maybe checked on us once. The food has gone down hill and not sure what happened. The place is very dirty and run down. Won't go back. What a shame because it used to be good. read more

Aloha, we were visiting from Oahu and we went to Olympic Café with a bunch of friends. The food was amazing. The salad to the breakfast to the lunches. We had pancakes, bacon, eggs, we had burgers and salads. All of the food was amazing. The service was amazing. The atmosphere was cool and energetic. We enjoyed our meal here more than anywhere else on Kauai that we went. We went to Kokee Lodge the day before, and the food was terrible. The service was terrible, and the owner was very rude. The meat was undercooked. They put something on my plate. I was allergic to after I explained that I was allergic when I tried to explain it to the boss, the one that owned the place he was very rude. They bought my burger back. They heated up the same burger put it on the same plate that had the pickle juice. It was terrible as for Olympic Café I would put them very high on your list to visit for breakfast or lunch and the pancakes were totally amazing. They will blow you away. I hope you enjoy your meal at Olympic Café, but please do not drive all the way to Kokee Lodge to have a meal. It's a long drive for food that was not worth it. read more

We ate breakfast there... service was okay you can tell they were not excited to be there which should have been a red flag...got eggs and bacon for the kids came quick... but food was cold they had pre-cooked the bacon But okay we figured not a big deal kids were okay with it But then we ordered two omelette...food came out...got spinach omelette and chorizo omelette... not good at all...where is the chorizo eggs and spinach omelette not edible... you could clearly see we didn't enjoy it.. because we barely touched it. Ask for the bill.. you would think they would have noticed we didn't touch it..and offered to remove it from our bill but...nope... No Keiki menu so we had to order adult food to split with the kids. Order was delivered wrong. Usually we have had very good results at this restaurant, but this time was just an off day possibly. The restaurant is in an interesting building, it's on top of local shops and has a great few of the busy street. The staff was nice, but didn't seem overly thrilled. We went during brunch time, so they may have been exhausted from a breakfast peak. There wasn't many quests when we got there but started to pick up as we were leaving. So I'd rate our service mediocre. The atmosphere was alright the main highlight is looking out. They have a designated bar area and TVs playing sports (if you are interested in that). There are power lines next to the open view of the restaurant, so if you want to see some birds while you eat you should sit by the window/overlook. I had the Loco Moco which came with traditional white rice, brown gravy, two hamburger patties and over easy eggs. I also got a side of a papaya. My partner had a kalua pork omelet and Olympic Cafe home fries (fried potato chunks). We both had coffee and water for drinks. The coffee was basic. Granted we are from Portland, Oregon and we have tons of amazing coffee locations - so traveling to other places coffee tends to be not as high end as Portland. They provide a generous meal portion. The papaya halves were precut and removed from shell. It had the texture of cut fruit from earlier in the day, a little dry on the exterior of fruit. The loco moco was nicely cooked and had good flavor. I would have preferred not as dense of a brown gravy but not a major downgrade just small preference. My partner thought the kalua pork was great but the omelette and potatoes were excessively greasy where they were unable to finish their meal. So our main complaint was excess oil/grease, and not fresh fruit. Again, I'm not counting coffee in the review because we are particular with our coffee due to where we are from. It would be somewhere we would try again, but try something a little different or ask the waitress for their recommendation or feedback. read more

Always a favorite of ours here on the island. Very disappointed that since Covid they are no longer open for dinner only breakfast and lunch. Our tradition has always been once we arrive and are settled into our unit at the Pono Kai, we head to the Olympic Cafe for dinner and we were so disappointed they were closed. We did go for lunch and it was very good as usual. I had the Kauai burger and my husband had the Ono sandwich and both were delicious and large portions. The only reason that I am not scoring them a 5 is on the service. The waitress was very friendly but as they are so short staffed she barely checked on us and did not come back after our food was delivered until we were half way through. Not her fault there are too few staff but this does affect the customers experience. I guess as customers we will have to adjust as this is the struggle of all business at this time.... read more

There's a nice view of the mountain over the roofs of the buildings across the street on one side and the ocean on the other. Road noise from down below is part of it, so sit on the ocean side if that bothers you. You can see the ocean from either side. Courtney was our server- very sweet and took care of us well. Portions are large, so we split the spinach scramble and a side of Portugese sausage. The scramble was yummy, full of fresh spinach and artichoke hearts. Coffee was good too.
