Tucked away in a strip plaza on US 1 you would miss it if you didn't know. Fortunately they have made their signage way easier to read. The interior is clean and simple. Lots of accolades from local papers on the wall. The little Greek man greets you and is a hoot. The lady who took our order was also very friendly. We had our go to favorites. Classic Gyro and Pastichio. The gyro was huge and filled with meat. A bit dry for my taste and the tazaki sauce helped a bunch. The pastachio was great. With side salad it hit the spot. Nice people, but food was just ok. Really couldn't taste anything except garlic. Don't get me wrong, I love garlic, but there was so much that I tasted it and tasted it. No oregano, no taste of lamb in the gyro meat. Yes, there was a spit, but it looked like it was just for show. My meat was not sliced from it. The heat lamp was not on. Just a grey hunk of mystery meat. Friend's dolmades were all rice and not seasoned either. Had so much hope, but was disappointed. Original guy has retired. Stopped in for the first time for a quick lunch. My boyfriend and I split the gyro combo. This was a tradition gyro and it's grilled potato's and a drink. This was absolutely delicious. The gyro was authentic (I just got back from Greece). The potatoes were seasoned and grilled and phenomenal. I so wanted to like this place but the cool looking Greek mustached man was actually rather rude and the Falafel was some of the worst tasting food I have ever eaten. The taste and consistency of the Falafel was terrible. I wasn't a big fan of the hummus taste either. The sandwich was small as well but because of the taste I only ate half so that was actually a plus. I'm sure there are other items on the menu that are better or at least I would hope. read more

So here in Melbourne there are many places that call themselves Greek. I have eaten at them all. They may serve Greek food but boy does the taste fall short. I am happy to say that Olympia cafe is something different entirely. First of all I have to believe that the man behind the counter is Greek. People here are eating and speaking Greek. Do the authenticity level is off the chart. We were warmly greeted and told not to rush when looking at the menu hanging in front of the kitchen. We ordered the pastisio combo and Greek chicken pizza. Both were delivered to our table very quickly. Everything was delicious and the presentation excellent. I couldn't be more happy. The service from the owner is a 180 from the food served! GREAT FOOD = RUDE service. I loved the lamb here that I came back twice. Ya gotta give people second chances, we all have off days. Rude to my husband on both occasions and second time to me. I love Greek and my family wanted fire house. No sign said "no outside food permitted." Yet, after I was a paying customer he continued to be rude. We ate in the parking lot. The lamb is some of the best gyro meat I had. Why would anyone buy a gyro (pronounced Yee-row for us rednecks) from a non-Greek is beyond me. The Olympia Café, manned by Teddy and Adrian, know the secret to success: Keep it simple and flavorful. Viola, it's that easy. There is no magic formula. Teddy has been cooking for over 50 years, but he refuses to take shortcuts or cheat his customers. He stands head and shoulders over his contemporaries. Looking like he just stepped off the lot as an extra in Zorba the Greek, Teddy has a bushy walrus mustache and a Greek sailors cap ever present on the top his head. Teddy knows all of his customers by name. He greets everyone and asks how they are doing while never missing a beat cooking. It is so refreshing to eat his appetizing and gratifying food, because I am a long standing patron I get the same thing every time. I order a Yee-Row NOT a Jai-row. It comes fresh cut from the standing rotisserie right in front of you. He piles on freshly cut onions and tomatoes. Guess what else? Teddy makes his own Tzatziki (a Greek cucumber and yogurt sauce) and generously applies it to the Gyro. I also order a tabouli salad. Interesting experience I got at this place! First of all , when I came to the place I saw an owner of this place who was sitting on the table with his assistant. They was discussing some stuff. I ask them if they open. Owner told me yes. We was sitting for several minuts without any attention from them. Finally he told us that we need waut for a second , after another couple minutes He asked us what we want ( he was staying not even near our table ) . We ask him about soup of the day and ge told us that they don''t have it. After that he told us that he closing in 40 minutes. My rating is primarily on the food. Today I came in for lunch and had Mousaka, Greek salad, pita chips and baklava. I came in hungry and left full so the portions are very good. The salad had crisp lettuce, cucumber and banana peppers. However the tomatoes were a bit soft. Not gross and mushy, just not as crisp as the rest of the ingredients. The fetta cheese was good and they put a good amount on. The dressing was great, I wish I would have asked if they made it from scratch. I'm not a Greek salad dressing guru so maybe it was just a really good store brand. Either way, it was nice and tart. The mousaka was very good. Not to oily. Great flavor. The pita chips were warm, I believe they toast pita bread fresh for your order because they were were still soft in the middle but crunchy on the outside. I haven't had baklava too many times before so I can't really compare theirs. I can say it was flaky and tasty sweet. It was a great way to finish off the meal. The cafe itself isn't anything fancy. I don't think they have more than 10 tables at most and they are just plain. It was clean though and for me that counts for a lot. The staff was pleasant and asked me a couple times how I was enjoying the food. The main cook looks like an old Mario from Super Mario Brothers with his big grey mustache and hat. The one down side is I spent $15.00 on lunch (tip not included). I would like to come back more often but that is just a bit too rich for me. My wife and I had very bad diarrhea from the Large Greek Salad we ordered it for the both of us and I didn't mind paying $2 to share even the plates were papers and adding $2 tips even I'm the one to pick the food from the counter. The Large Greek Salad was the worst ever with ridiculous price. Our order of the large greek salad wasn't close to any small size we ever had! It was a little bit of Romano lettuce with the brown edges still on it, 2 tiny pieces of cucumber, 4 small and tiny pieces of Tomatoes, 2 black olives, a bit of onion, tiny tiny pieces of Feta cheese which you need a little spoon to pick it up, 2 unbelievable small pieces of Pita!!! We accepted this ridiculous price for this kind of salad which is not related at all to the greek salads, but we couldn't accept getting sick from it! read more
