We have been with Olson's for MANY years. We have had at least two furnace installations, as well as 2 AC'a. Here is the thing.. It comes down to who you get to come out and do the service. ** Insist on having Urie (sp?) ** to do your service. Other technician came out 2 separate times across the weekend, cold temps. He did not explain it communicate anything he was doing. He simply looked at the outflowing condensation tubing (in the basement) and said that we were "Not frozen". Then he started furnace, and said "I think you are good". What kind of confidence does that leave you with? Furnace would run 2 hrs, and quit every time. We spent 5 days in a 53 degree house. Finally they sent Urie. . This guy is FULLY talking about what he is doing. He is sucking and blowing on tubes, cleaning ignition thing similar to thermocouple. AND!! Wait.... He goes outside and looks at the outflowing condensation pvc. It is determined that we have frozen outside. And that is why it shuts down furnace. Next.. he shows me trick to divert condensation outflow to a bucket in the warm basement. (To avoid further freezing) He even gives me tubing out of his truck. **You have got ask for Urie, for ANY service** Olson's... give this man a raise. ‍ Also, ignore the bit on voicemail where it says to press 1 for emergency service. I did this. Answering service takes your #, and then service guy calls you to say that they don't work on weekends. (They should take that off their voicemail) read more

I called to request a quote on Aug 14th to have someone come out to repair a broken Mitsubishi mini-split and perform standard maintenance on the other units. I spoke to Joseph, who sent me a very reasonable quote. I scheduled for Aug 19th at 10:00AM to come out and take a look and Joseph was a no-call, no-show. read more

Wow. I'm done with Olson. I've had two maintenance calls with Olson-- both times the technician was Chris. He was condescending and dismissive of my questions. I doubt he would have spoken to a male customer in this unprofessional and dismissive way. It can be hard to find a Heating & Cooling Company that's trustworthy. My contractor told me that the technicians are primarily salesman. He suggested asking if the technicians are paid by commission. Apparently many of them are-- and it's a huge conflict of interest. I rarely write reviews unless something was exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. This review is for the latter. I am giving two stars because it wasn't a catastrophic experience, just very disappointing customer service. We chose Olson Energy to install our ductless mini-split heat pump system because they are located just down the street and I try to support my neighborhood businesses. The work was done in May 2019 and cost $12,000. It was a Mitsubishi MXZ3C30HZ-U1, with three indoor pods, one for each floor. We already have boiler and radiant heat in the house, so we mainly installed this for air-conditioning, even though they sold me on the system with hyper-heat, just in case. That's fine. We had, at the time, an Airbnb unit and we wanted to provide air conditioning for the hotter summer days to our guests. We primarily used the A/C for a couple of weeks in August and then only during the day, since as we know, the PNW has cool evenings even in summer. All this to say that we didn't use it that much. Fast forward to summer of 2020. My wife is now working from home due to COVID and the home office is the bedroom directly under the deck where the outdoor unit of the heat pump is installed. Whenever the unit was running, the vibrations from the unit amplified through the ceiling and carried throughout most of the house. This vibration noise was even worse when the unit would cycle on or off. It sounded like a truck on the deck, revving it's engine. Needless to say, my wife wasn't liking it. I didn't like it either, since it would wake me up at night if we decided to use it or if a guest decided to use it. Initially I slid a large piece of heavy 3/4" rubber under the base that Olson Energy installed with unit. This helped a little, and we tolerated it a while longer. Finally, not being really satisfied with the result and being tired of not being able to actually use our A/C or heat whenever we wanted, we called Olson Energy to see if this noise was normal (October 2020). They were able to come out and look at it on Nov 11, 2020. Chris (there are two) came out and looked at it to make sure it wasn't defective and he recorded sound and took pictures. He was here about 15 minutes and seemed in a hurry to leave. He didn't offer any solutions when he left and said he'd get back to us. We didn't hear back from him, so I called on Nov. 19 and left a message with the office person. Chris did call back the next day and left a message, but for some reason, I didn't see a missed call. When I did see it a few days later, I called him back and left a message but never heard back from him. I called the office back on 11-25. I talked to a very nice guy in the office who said he would leave a detailed message. Crickets... I called again on Dec. 8 and talked to another Chris, who said, "We just don't ever have that kind of problem". He then said, "Let me get back to you". Can you guess what happened then? Nothing. Not a peep. Fed up and being a handy guy myself, and having some knowledge about commercial HVAC systems, I decided fix it myself. I bought a VibraSystems 4-pack of spring isolators with height adjustment bolts from Amazon for $100. I bought a 6' piece of Unistrut from Stoneway Hardware (I love them) and cut it in half. The installed mounting system that Olson Energy used consisted of hard plastic risers on a dense styrofoam base that was meant to look like concrete. This did nothing to absorb or isolated vibrations from the unit. I carefully replace the old system with my new one by gently lifting and bracing the unit about 1/2" up so as not to bend any of the refrigerant lines. The result. NO VIBRATIONS WHATSOEVER! It's perfectly silent now and we can't ever even tell when it's on or not. These guys are supposed to be professionals. They should know how to isolate vibrations. I can only think of three reasons why they wouldn't help us with this problem: 1. They don't care about the customer once they are paid, 2. They are not smart enough to troubleshoot and fix anything that is out of the ordinary, or 3. They are lazy. I just can't imagine that the collective knowledge of every technician Olson Energy isn't enough to solve our problem, so I've ruled out reason number 2. No matter the reason, I will not be using them again. It's too bad because I need to have two water heaters put into a rental and I would have used them if they had proved that they care about the customer. read more

My family used Olson energy for many years but after my last interaction with them we are done. Was having problems with our heat and suspected it was the heat pump that they installed as our furnace had just been inspected and the oil filled. I called on a Friday and was only able to get through on the emergency line. I was promised a call back and when the technician called his number came through as no caller id so my phone blocked it as spam. He left a short voicemail with no name or his call back number so I had to call Olsons back and they said I'd get another call back. When the technician called again he was extremely rude from the get go, explained he was calling on his personal phone and won't give his number out, and blocks it so customers can't call him back. He never once introduced himself and then proceeded to brush off my concerns about the heat pump, He told me to call the company that filled our oil tank and leave him alone. In a very rude tone he told me I better not call back again for any help. Unfortunately that made me very upset, as I had been nothing but cordial and respectful in my responses to him. As someone who worked in customer service for many years, I know dealing with customers is stressful at times but I could not believe the poor treatment and the entitlement this man gave me from the get go. He is the face of the company, and if this is how they do business now I will make sure my family does not do business with them anymore. I will tell my neighbors and friends to steer clear. Olsons is clearly not the company they used to be. They used to have a very friendly and helpful staff. This is no more. read more

Without question, one of the worst customer interactions I've experienced. Olson installed a water heater and boiler in our home seven years ago. The equipment is good and continues to work well. However, one section of the new copper pipe Olson installed is failing at a joint prematurely with severe corrosion. We called to have it looked at and were immediately told they don't work on boilers and can't help. First, what about standing by your work? Seven years isn't long for heavy gauge copper pipe. Second, the joint doesn't meet code. They attached copper directly to threaded iron pipe with no dielectric (Seattle Plumbing Code 605.15, 507.1 if interested). I called back and spoke with manager Chris, his responses: "Olson was bought 7 years ago"...so no service on previous work? "We don't have boiler technicians"...is a pipe outside of the boiler, basic plumbing. "Maybe it was and old pipe, or someone else did the work"...no, big stickers on the equipment with Olson, tech. names, install date. "We have record it passed inspection"...so, Olson did do the work. And inspections missing a defective joint doesn't mean the work was done properly. "You probably haven't had things serviced enough"...What, it's our fault? The boiler and water heater work fine, the pipe joint that's about to burst is the issue. Beyond utter lack of accountability or willingness to assist, the communication was defensive, rude, and accusatory. Complete opposite of decent customer service. Olson's been around a while and used to have a good reputation, but I recommend looking elsewhere. read more

We set up an appointment for Olson to give an estimate on air conditioning and/or heat pump installation. A technician came about a half hour late and when I asked if he was here to do the estimate, he said, "You tell me." He spent about 15 minutes walking around our home and took some pictures -- a far cry from the 2 hours his competitors had spent prior to their estimates. We told him we planned to make a decision this week, and we still have heard nothing a week later. It astounds me the cavalier way this company ignores a multi-thousand dollar job. It was a matching unit to my neighbor's, whose house is identical to mine, and so I was able to 'pre-approve' how loud it was. I called for an appointment on Friday and got scheduled for Tuesday. I informed the person that I would be using the $99 coupon for a furnace tune-up. The technician (Chris) was on time and I showed him how to access the furnace in the crawl space. He spent at least 30 minutes checking everything and replacing the filter. I was happy there was no up sell or coupon shaming. From what I can see this outfit appears honest and on time. I would definitely use these folks if and when my furnace has any problems. Our furnace went out during the recent cold snap and we called Olsen energy for help. They said they could send someone over that day as they had a cancellation. When the repair person arrived, I took him down to the furnace. I told him what was going on and then he started measuring the furnace and taking pictures of the ductwork before even taking off the panel and trying to find the problem. I thought that was strange but left him to figure it out. I came back 10 minutes later Andy asked if he found anything. He then proceeded to tell me that the furnace was too old and they couldn't work on it. He didn't tell me what was wrong and said I needed a new furnace and then told me a salesman would get hold of me. He then said I owed him a 165 dollar service charge and left after I paid him. My story is complex. Bought new bryant gas furnace system 1997. Coils failed in 2010, told to buy new system, no other option. New bryant plus95s purchased. This system failed in 2018. I was told by technician that it was a defect in the carrier coil design and that in 2010 there was a class action lawsuit involving both systems. I had been paying a yearly fee to olson energy for maintenance of the system, When Chris came to give me a bid for replacement, it was $17,500! Fortunately i found a dealer who did the job for $7,750. I write this one year after the system failed and olson, failed to step up with some consideration of the product they sold me. Chris was a huge help to our family as he helped our mother/mother-in-law get her old, old, old furnace (conversion burner) repaired so she will have heat again this winter. Her furnace is about 100 years old and the gas conversion burner was apparently the problem. Olson installed a very expensive gas boiler / on-demand water heater in our house about 8 years ago, and has serviced it a few times since. I've generally been quite happy with them, but today when our heat went out and I called them I was told quite rudely that they don't service boilers anymore and I was just out of luck. I understand that a company may make a decision to get out of a particular line of business, but they did do installations and they know that heat is something people depend on getting fixed in an emergency. If you're going to stand behind your work, the reasonable thing to do would be to offer a referral to someone who they know can do the service. Instead, the initial response was a very unsympathetic "I guess you're out of luck," as if boilers were some outdated technology we'd be lucky to get someone to look at. He did give me the names of a couple places when I pressed him, but he didn't have phone numbers and didn't even seem confident those places would be able to service it either. Heating systems are a long-term investment. If you're looking for someone who will stand behind you long term, I recommend you look elsewhere. read more

I began ordering oil and serivce for my oil furnace because my furnace had an Olson Energy service sticker on it. They talked me into their $160 annual service contract by offering discounts on oil. The contract specifies that they will give you various discounts on parts and service throughout the year (basically an warranty instrument), but the most important thing that you get is an annual service where a technician comes out and "inspects, adjusts and completely services" your furnace. Their tactic, however, is to send you reminder postcards about the annual service during the hot summer months when you aren't thinking about heating. Then, as the weather cools, they go quiet until your contract expires/renews and then they keep your money without ever servicing your furnace. I called in January with a week or two left in my service contract. They told me that they couldn't get anyone out to my house for three weeks, which was beyond my contract period. I told them that if this was their service level, I wasn't going to renew my contract but still wanted the service I'd already paid for. They refused. I was escalated to their service manager, Jim, who was indifferent, dismissive, and flatly refused to honor the terms of the contract even as I was reading over the phone to him. After that conversation, he began ducking all of my calls. I terminated all of my business with them and filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They began to return my calls. The first call was from not-quite-human sales guy who offered me a discount on my next service contract to retain my business. I politely declined, saying that I didn't want to do business with them. The next call was from Jim the service manager, who was very long in the face, telling me that he'd "had a lot of personal problems lately" and wanted to schedule a service for the next day. I politely declined. Next, not-quite-human sales guy called again, this time assuming that "let's get down to brass tacks" attitude about resolving the complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I politely declined all of his offers for service. I resolved my complaint with BBB, stating that Olson Energy had made a reasonable attempt to address my issue. There are companies understand that goodwill with the customer has business value. There are other companies that adopt a creepy, insectile mercantilism that will let them justify some awful service. This review is based on a bid I received (no actual work) and interactions with the selling agent. We were replacing an old oil furnace with a new one and asked for bids. Olson's gave us a bid for putting up new registers and a very involved ductwork system. When we talked with them we emphasized we wanted to use less ductwork so eventually our basement is livable. Furthermore, our house is small (first floor is ~850 sq ft) so we absolutely don't need to have registers near the windows. I repeatedly asked for a bid that uses the old register openings rather than cut out new holes into our oldish house and creaking floors. I was told the price would be the same. Overall, I felt they were taking advantage of a me as a client selling me on something more expensive than needed. Needless to say, they didn't get my business. read more

We've been suing Olson Energy service for the last four years. The first winter in our house, the old oil furnace died and we had to replace it. I contacted many companies in Seattle for replacement bids. We ended up getting a heat pump and a new furnace from Olson - heating oil was $4.25 per gallon at the time and it cost over $3,000 for heat in the winter. With the heat pump, our winter heating bills are way down. We used 15 gallons of heating oil last year, and the heat pump costs a maximum of $100 extra per month to run. The heat pump is paying for itself - fast! Our situation was very challenging; due to space issues and then finding a heat pump compatible with the furnace; the guys at Olson kept at it until they were satisfied the units would work together. They gave us a VERY competitive price for purchase and installation.. Installation in this 1929 house was difficult and there were various challenges along the way. The guys at Olson were so wonderful and patient. They showed up here late one Friday afternoon when the system seemed to just stop. Turned out we accidently flipped a safety switch. When they came for a follow-up checkup, the tech was unhappy with how the thermostat was performing, so switched it out for free. We didn't even know there was a problem.BTW,I think a service contract and and yearly checkup is important. The Olson guys, while checking out the system, noticed lint from the dryer vent was getting into the heat pump. They showed me the problem so I could take care of the issue. Had they not come out, we would have inadvertently burned out the heat pump! Now, that would have been expensive. Fast forward to today. We just had another company come and blow in insulation over the garage. In drilling to blow in insulation, they inadvertantly drilled into the fresh air return and filled it with blow-in insulation. The insulation company doesn't have duct cleaning equipment so I was on my own for figuring out how to get my system cleaned out. All the duct cleaning services were scheduled three weeks + out and we don't want to go without heat for the next 3 weeks. I called Olson and they fit us in today despite being completely booked. I can't begin to say how appreciative I am that they are taking care of us on such short notice. This is absolutely consistent with the great customer service we have received all along. I want to give Olson a bad rating because I hate paying for oil but that would be unfair, right? When that $1000 oil bill is hanging on the doorknob, it's hard to have warm and fuzzy feelings for them. But that's not their fault. I've been a customer for years off and on since the early 90s. They've been really nice on the phone. They've been pretty responsive when I've had problems with my furnace. They have even helped me with things that don't profit them. And hey, you can't blame Olson for the pollution problem in our county. We're all to blame for that. We are using electricity to power our computers (to write yelp reviews) and that electricity is likely the result of a polluting technology. Now I feel guilty for writing yelp reviews... read more

Going into the spring we didn't think we'd need any more heating oil so had informed Olson Energy not to deliver oil unless oil was below 10" and had received prior authorization. So was very surprised and disappointed to come home today to a $750 heating oil bill without any contact from Olson Energy. Called and complained and they agreed they were wrong as there were notes on the account and agreed to some compensation, but am still really frustrated with their lack of communication/unprofessionalism. Olson is the very worst. They try to get you to sign a contract to take a delivery then they claim that you cannot buy oil ever again unless you buy it from them. If you buy from someone else they will threaten you and if you have a landlord they'll threaten them too. Their prices are terrible and they are just horrible mean people. Stay away. read more

NEVER USE THESE GUYS. We used Olson Energy to service our furnace for years. The furnace broke and needed replacing. As it turns out, they had not even looked at the Heatpump portion of our system in over 10 years. Then Chris, their sales rep, came and gave us an estimate. He was condescending to my wife when she told him we were using another company. He said he was going to call me. When he called me, he was rude and hostile. When I asked him why my heatpump hadn't worked in years and that their crew hadn't looked at it, he asked me if if I was some sort of "expert". Oddly we talked with a neighbor after this who had an almost identical experience AFTER they had Olson install a system. read more

Came out for a $125 service appointment, technician apparently decided to do some extra work like clean parts of furnace, air filter etc. Nothing wrong with that except for the fact he did it without letting us know it would be billed for $115 extra as "30 min misc labor" and requesting prior approval. $115 for 30 minutes??? Again, we booked a $125 service appt that was invoiced at $240 at the end, no heads up or questions asked beforehand. To add to this, the customer service guy on the phone could use some guidance on how to handle customers during phone conversations. 1/6/15 - UPDATE The Owner called and was apologetic about the ordeal and mentioned he had already initiated a deposit back to our checking account for the amount we were charged for 30 minutes of Misc work. Have a gas furnace and water heater that I bought from Olson 13 years ago. Have been on a maintaince contract with them the whole time. Past couple of years they have been finding things wrong with furnace requiring repair. Repair prices seem over priced. Example on today's annual service call was a replacement capacitor. He wanted $60 dollars for the part. I bought same part for $7.00. Since there was no additional labor required as the part was already out to be tested and had to be put back in anyway this was probably well over a 10 times markup on their wholesale cost. Unbelievable! Since water heater is 13 years old I asked them for a phone bid to take out the old and replace with same. They were almost twice as high as next highest bid. Their service is fine but the markup they want to make seems excessive. read more

I will never use this company again and will not recommend to anyone. I had a problem with the pilot light in my furnace last winter. A technician came and he was there for less than 10 minutes, 2 of which he had to answer his phone and listen to the recording that his prescription was ready at Walgreens. He took a flashlight, peeked inside and said "I can't fix it." He said my heater was too old. Didn't even take anything apart and tinker around. He basically said my heater could blow, charged me the fee and left. I called Puget Sound Energy that same day because I didn't believe him. The very competent technician came the next day, took apart my heater and replaced some tubing. That's all it was. No parts needs except some metal tubing. He was there no more than an hour. It's worked great ever since and cost me nothing. I had sent an email to Olson's Energy explaining my dissatisfaction and they never responded. I take that back, they responded with my paid invoice. That's it. This company is the worst. One star is too much. I was totally ripped off. read more
