While some Big Lots are clean and title and feel like a first run department store, this one does not. The merchandise is the same, but it feels a little more flea market. It's not a very clean store either. It's not filthy, it's just worn and showing its age... it needs a refresh. Employees have always been friendly. Just in case you don't know, Big Lots is a national chain store of close-out and discontinued items. Sometimes I find nothing of interest and sometimes I strike gold. While prices appear to be rock bottom, that is not always the case. There are dollar-type stores in this same strip mall and sometimes the same items can be found for less.

This place is basically a non-MA, Southern version of Filene's Basement (i.e. friendlier, but with…read moremore potential for boundary issues resulting in weird conversations with complete strangers and even more utterly random in terms of stock): new (and possibly returned) items (which are mostly unsold product from a variety of other chains like Target and department-y type stores) come in at discount prices, which are then further discounted over time they remain in stock or according to specific store specials. I've seen comments about expensive / big ticket items being shifted between stores as they become due for discount, but I don't necessarily think that's an issue for the store in Etown, as transporting this kind of stuff 50 miles to another store doesn't exactly amount to cost effectiveness, given the immediate discounted cost associated with items. Staff are really friendly, helpful, kind, and low-key, which is kinda great, given that this is the sort of place that you really need to walk into with a totally open mind and a wandering heart, willing to kinda sort through a little of everything (a lot of it fairly iffy) to find a well-priced treasure. That's just the Bargain Hunt - kinda - way, I guess. Tolerance of a little chaos at certain times of year can get you a ton of cool scarves for 90% off reduced prices or 90% off retail on really amazing swim coverups or a beautiful suit for pennies on the dollar. But you have to be in the right mindset: you can't go in looking for or needing specific things in a specific size, and there's a fair amount of sorting through crap and consulting the special offers and / or the discount schedule (which is readily available). It's hit-or-miss, but generally a fairly quick glance can tell you whether an area is worth more time or not, based on what you're looking for. Not generally crowded people-wise, again, though shelves can be crowded or ill-displayed. If you're one of those people who gets excited about being able to tell someone how little you payed for something after they mention how cute it is, this is place for your next bargain hunt, for sure.

I purchased the one they had in-store and subsequently placed an online order for five more. I never received correspondence except for the order received and order shipped notifications. I was so excited when my order of five trunks arrived -- until I opened the box and found only one. I went straight online and looked at my order history which showed two trunks had been "cancelled" and three had shipped. When I looked more closely at the shipment notification, I noticed it only listed one. (I admit to not having read all the way down and only looked at the expected delivery date.) So I was very happy with the item I found, but am very disappointed with the lack of communication -- even inconsistencies in their order history. I've reached out to customer service, but really if they had let me know I couldn't get all five, I would have cancelled my order.

They usually have a good amount of seasonal items. They had their fall and Halloween items out and displayed and separated by season and holidays and we noticed that some seasonal and holidays items are repeats from last year. They try to provide new and fresh items for the current year which is nice but they were a few items we saw last year that we were hoping they would bring back but didn't. Either way we had a great time browsing and looking at the displays. My only gripe is I wanted a certain tablecloth and they had limited selection and availability.

I got 4 new pairs of earrings for around $100. They has a great selection of drink stuff (napkins, cups that keep drinks cold etc) and clothes. Me and my second oldest daughter stopped in here the other day to browse for possible Christmas presents. While we didn't purchase anything it was a fun place to browse. Slightly cluttered but that's ok as it means they just have a large inventory of options. Pricing wise I'd say they are on the high end a tad for our liking. I'm able to find likewise items in louisville or online a tad bit cheaper. However they are located in an extremely popular small town/touristy shopping area so I understand the slight increases. The workers here were extremely nice and helpful and give you the small country town welcome you would expect. Overall a very cool store. Just because we didn't find anything on this trip does not mean we will not come back and purchase in the future.

Everyone can find an idea. They also have cocktail slushy drinks...yummy! With samples. My mom and I both bought two packs. I also splurged a little, and bought a piece that just spoke to me. She kept calling me to buy her, that my home needed to be her new home. :) Whatever I needed to say to make it ok to buy. Large painting in a beautiful frame. Love it! Can't wait to go back and find my next treasures!
