I'm a very large woman and when all of the large lady clothing stores like The Avenue, Modern Woman, catherine's, Lane Bryant, and others around me, closed their locations I was in a panic. I'm a professional business owner and need to dress accordingly. Somehow I ran across this beautiful store on Facebook and became a "member" (which is free) so I could participate on their "live" shows and shop any other time too. Very reasonable prices and the ladies who model etc look like me (as opposed to a skinny unrealistic model) so I can really see what the garment will look like on me. Erm...Prices here are 'boutique' - level, for sure, which is fine, it's meant as a frou-frou boutique, no matter how it's presented as low key and country, in an outdated low visibility building in a somehow simultaneously 'high traffic' and problematic to pull in for a quick walk through-type location. They stock a fair variety of Luminara-style pillar candles with various finishes, heavy emphasis on country colors and the faux-drippy/antiqued variety. In all bluntness, that is the only reason I've found to visit a few times since they started stocking them, since I have a bit of trouble with 'primitives' as available (as they were always previously categorized). Not 'reproduction primitives,' not 'primitive-style,' despite pseudo-country (don't get me wrong, it's hardcore country-styled) deco made in Asia (pretty much exclusively what I've found to be) stocked here. Anyway - if you need a gift basket on the fly (or in advance, I've just never been in that position), especially for a local woman 'of a certain age,' or for a church-sheeple oriented event, they'll get the job done well and without a lot of fuss. read more

I'm going to be honest--There are not a lot of places around this part of Ky. where you can find primitives -BUT--having said that, I'd still only use this place to "window shop" and then go order it off Ebay or Amazon. The lady that owns this shop is super nice--don't get me wrong, and all her stuff is awesome BUT it's definitely WAY overpriced. I drive all over the Mid-west, from Ohio to Indiana to Ky and Tennessee, to find primitive stores and there are TONS of other primitive stores (within about a 2 hour drive) that have the EXACT SAME pictures, and calendars, and wooden shelves, and chairs and painted signs, and rugs, and candles and etc... etc... for about half the price this lady charges for her stuff at Red Brick Cottage. For example, she has shower curtains and bath accessories with tin stars on them--that shower curtain sells for like $60.00 at her shop--but at a shop near Shelbyville Ky it sells for only $27.99--seriously--the same exact shower curtain. I talked with one vendor in the tri-state area that actually said, "I don't know who she thinks she is, but you're not the first person to complain about her prices, and she must think she's the Queen of Sheba for charging that much for 'old country goods.'" Seriously folks--go to a "Vendor's Village," or a "Trader Bakers," or even other Flea Markets and other primitive stores in a 2 hour radius of that place and compare prices.... or don't--just go to ebay or amazon.com and order online. I shop here, in store and online and they have always been accommodating and friendly. They have beautiful items that you just don't find in any other stores I have been in. I honestly was shocked to see such bad reviews. The prices are what I would expect to pay, they are quality items. read more

I have passed this place a million times and finally decided to stop and check it out. I agree with others in that it seems way over priced. With that being said, it is a super cute shop and it is much bigger on the inside than it looks. EXTREMELY unprofessional establishment . I have contacted UPS and reported this access point . I , unfortunately , had to visit this place to pick up a UPS package . I've never had to pick up a package from this place before so I was unsure if I was even at the right location as it looks like a run-down antique shop with no clear indication of it being a UPS access pony . I pulled up and looked for some type of sign or something so that I knew I was at the right place . Not long after , the front door opens and a dog exits the shop and approaches me as I'm exiting my vehicle . The dog postures itself in this guard dog-ish, intimidating stance and stares me down . My initial reaction is to scream as I do not like dogs . Too afraid to move , I began screaming from my vehicle "hello! come get your dog" . The owner , after some time , finally comes to the door (he never even opens the door) and stares at me from the inside through the glass with this puzzled look on his face as if he's confused as to what I'm doing there . Newsflash ... YOU ARE A BUSINESS . PATRONS FREQUENT YOUR ESTABLISHMENT . IS THAT NOT THE POINT OF OWNING A BUSINESS ? WHY WOULD YOU SEND YOUR DOG OUT TO INTIMIDATE PATRONS. After he finally opens the door (I'm still standing by my car as his dog is still standing in front of me) I ask him if this is how he treats all of his customers and his answer to me was "yes" . Still yelling from my car because he had yet to call his dog off , I inform him that I am there to pick up a package . It wasn't until then that he called his dog off of me . Come to find out my package hadn't arrived yet so I unfortunately would have had to return to get my package . I refuse to return to this location and called UPS for my package to be re-routed to another access point . One word. RUDE. IF I COULD RATE THIS BUSINESS ZERO STARS I WOULD!!!!! I walked in impressed with the charming feel of the place. Walked around looking for gifts (getting a jump on Christmas shopping). I asked for assistance with jewelry secured in a glass case from an employee behind the cash counter, the employee made it perfectly clear 'i was bothering him' huffed and puffed and openly displayed being annoyed. I looked at just one piece and handed it back to him, I wanted to look at a few more pieces but his body language projected a 'hurry up and look lady' type of vibe, so I just moved along, he rolled his eyes when I handed the necklace back to him, I said thank you, he said NOTHING, he secured the necklace and walked away without a word. I should have left but then thought, well he must be having a bad day, so I walked around. I found candles without prices and asked for help from a lady sitting at a desk which was (if you are facing the counter) to the left of the checkout counter. She did not get up and said 'look for another candle just like it there has to be a price somewhere' (I did do that before asking for help). Instead, I put the candle back and exited quickly......I was disappointed the two employees I engaged with were RUDE, UNHELPFUL and just plain made me feel as if my business was not appreciated. DO NOT SHOP ONLINE WITH THIS COMPANY!!!! I placed an order with them on November 19th to avoid the holiday rush of shipping. They fail to inform you when items are out of stock until you question them. Then was told the stuff will be in soon. Well here it is a month later and they just shipped it out. Found out from the post office it won't be be here for Christmas!!!! Their answer was "we are a mom and pop store" well when you decide to sell online you have now joined the big leagues and that excuse doesn't work. When trying to rectify this they were no help at all. All they would say is we have no control over the post office!! Which I know they don't but if they had the common curtesy to tell me items were out of stock when the order was placed I would have told them to ship it without them and Christmas would not be ruined!!!!
