Wow! The food is absolutely amazing. Their felafel is one of the best I've ever had, and their dips are delicious. They offer a homemade lemonade which, if you order they inform you that it takes 8 minutes to make. SO WORTH IT! They squeeze fresh limes and lemons into the most refreshing limeade. I don't know if there is a certain time to come to this restaurant or if the service is always run by people who act like they're not sure what they're doing. Last time I had gone with my family, we had the most friendly waiter, but this time was almost the opposite. Don't get me wrong, the food is still good. Their hummus and fresh pita bread are delicious, but the time it took to be served at a restaurant that had four other customers and staff that stood around talking was pretty absurd. When we were finally being served, we were greeted by a waitress that showed she really did not want to be there. I hope she has a better day. The gyros had great flavor, if you rearranged it because I either got a mouthful of onions, sauce, or meat. Overall, if the service was better, I'd probably go back. read more

Oh to be 17 again... I know all to well now I made a good choice having my first job working in a photo lab was the right one. If I were 17 again, it would be extremely tough choosing to be a waitress in a restaurant of any type. You would have to be patient, caring, friendly, and sweet... along with taking in all the stress and abuse from the hungry customers, spoiled co-workers, and (micro-)managers. I do not feel I would know, all of the "small things" I needed that can make or break a great experience for the guest, but I would do my part to learn form each and every best practice, mistake, and blunder. This brings me to introduce Madeline (or Maddy as she would like to be called). Maddy is the young waitress that greeted my Mother and I at Olivit Mediterranean Grill. We shown up at around 7pm on a Tuesday night, and were taken in by the pleasant and relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant. Maddy walked up to us from the back and directed us to sit where every we liked. We started making our way into the establishment, and right off the start we noticed they must have been real busy right before we came, and/or they were extremely shorthanded... because almost every table was not cleaned and prepped for a new guest. She came to us again, and said that she was sorry and that she would be more than happy to clean a table for us of where every we would like. As she cleaned a table of our choice, she stated that we just missed this huge crowd a few moments ago. At this time I was looking around to see who else worked here. From the first look of things, she was mostly it.... I almost felt like she was the only one there to do it all. We took our seats sitting on very comfy couch like benches, and I must say it was a very nice sitting experience after standing all day from work. I was staying optimistic as much as I could until the smell remains of dirty sour water washrag hit my nose that was used to clean the table with. We asked her if she would be so kind as to clean the table again. Maddy was very gracious and understanding, and was egger to insure our happiness. She told us that she obtained a whole new cleaning cloth (for the 2nd time around). We placed our order form some of the sot after humus and pita bread that others have said were very good, but received cold (room temperature) bread in its place. We told Maddy about this and once again, she sprang instantly to remedy the situation. Coming back with hot and tasty bread to match with some fair-tasting humus and very tasty baba ganoush. I had their famous lentil soup along with a gyro sandwich. The soup just by it self, changed my bar level of what good lentil is all about. JUST PERFECT. The Gyro was best in class, and my mother's salad was full of color, freshness, and taste. An extremely excellent meal. I would say though, that if we first walked in here and were not greeted by a very patient, caring, friendly, and sweet waitress such Maddy we would have turned right around and walked out. It was her over all good nature that kept only one of our toes from stepping outside the door. As we enjoyed and closed our dining experience, there were other things we both noticed... such as why was she doing all the work on the floor and there were three people in the back doing from what we can tell was next to nothing. I thought it was awful that they could not come on the floor and check with the guest how their experience was or to help Maddy out with bussing tables. Every place I have been to, the whole team helps out to keep the restaurant in top shape. Shame. In conclusion, I am only able to give Olivit Mediterranean Grill three out of five stars. Two stars for Maddy, because at 17 years old, she is just a super-waitress, One start to bump it to three for the WOW soup, bread, and hot black-mint tea. The lack of the two other stars was due to the lack of everything else that seemed like could have been prevented if there was more caring about the guest and waitress. $32.00 to feed two people was a fair price, but I know it could have been better. After driving past the restaurant literally hundreds of times, I finally tried this place for lunch last week, and I'm so glad I did. We started with the Baba ghanouj and the Stuffed Grape Leaves. Both were very good and obviously made fresh. I had the Gyro and cannot stop thinking about it! In fact, I think I'll go have it again today. Also, the staff was very attentive and friendly. Absolutely one of our favorite places!! It's actually a 20 to 30 minutes drive for us, which is a blessing because I would eat here every day otherwise! I have not found another mediterranean or greek restaurant with a better hommus recipe or doughier pita bread. We pick up the veggie dipper hommus as take-out to take to every pool party and barbecue we attend and it's alway a huge hit. Best appetizer is the starter combo, where you get to try each of the dips: hommus, bab ghonouj, and tabbouleh. Our favorite entrees are the hommus meals with sautee or shawerma or the chicken quallaya wrap. I have always received warm and attentive service when dining in and this is a wonderful place to go for a quieter lunch during the week. read more

Definitely some of the best Greek/Mediterranean food I've ever eaten. I love Greek food but they've made me enjoy it even more! The hummus is fantastic and fresh tasting. I especially recommend trying the spicy hummus but you really can't go wrong with any of them. Don't be afraid to try some of the items on the menu with names you don't recognize you might actually like them! Regardless you can't ever go wrong with the basic gyro or kabob. Again, a solid four stars. This is my second review of Olivit. I went back and had Grilled Mix, and my wife had something else. She loved the spiciness of her dish, even though she is not a fan of mushrooms and green peppers. Neither of us knew mushrooms and peppers were in the dish, just didn't think to ask. And so, for my wife to pay a compliment to a meal based on foods she doesn't like is saying a lot. My mixed grill was excellent. A piece of lamb, chicken and a big kebab, with grilled zucchini, carrots, onions and a salad, tzatsiki, herbed butter, pitas and olive oil dip. Solid meal. Service was fine. No complaints. New place in town. Went for lunch and surprised to find no lunch menu. Got the hummus to start which came with 4 piping hot fresh baked pitas. Hummus was mediocre. Sandwiches are $4.99 and are kind of like a pita bread tortilla burrito thing crisped in the oven. not bad for 5 bucks. I had the lamb kabab..good but I felt it needed more spices. Hubby had the Lamb Qualaya which was kind of like lamb stew and rice wrapped in this pita. It was ok. Prices on the entrees averaged $16+ a pc...a little pricey for lunch if you are not in the mood for a salad or "sandwich". Nice decor and atmostphere, very clean and comfortable. Found this place on Yelp and Holy Hummus Batman this place rocks!!! Maddy was our server and she was very friendly and helpful. She knew the menu very well and made sure we were well taken care of. The hummus is house made and is to die for. Had the 2 for $20 plate with my girl and we were amazed with the flavor and the freshness of the food. Everything from the homemade bread at the beginning of the meal to the chocolate baklava (yes I said chocolate) and the end was spectacular. Definitely returning here and highly recommend. read more

Normally I am pretty impressed with this place. Tonight. Not so much. First, if the waitress said "no problem" as a reply to my "thank you" one more time, I would have walked out. And, if she reached across me to pick up another plate or bowl, I might have stabbed her with my fork. Second, I ordered a Shawarma Plate and Freekeh soup. It was a plate of chicken, a little cup of yogurt, a small sliver of pickle and another of beet. That's it. Not the shawarma I expected. The soup wasn't Freekeh at all, but Zenga. We love the food here, honestly. It's yummy! I adore the lamb with hummus, my daughters like the lentil soup and my husband raves about the tzenga and anything with lamb. The mint lemonade is delicious and my daughter loves the fresh apple juice. Really, everything is great, food-wise. Now, we usually get our order to-go, which works out great. We have never had any issues ordering that and it's always nicely done. We live nearby, we shop at the HEB that's right there and usually pick it up on the way home from grocery shopping. But we hardly ever dine in, and here's why: The service is not that great (and the reason why it only gets four stars instead of five). We have two small children and they are time bombs. If they don't get their food within a limited time frame, they will explode. It seems like every time we dine-in (and it's only been about four to five times, for this reason) is that the service is extraordinarily slow. I have to ask for bread repeatedly, the last time we went our food order didn't even get sent to the chef. (Which is largely why I am writing this review.) And the worst part is, it took 45 minutes for our waitress to figure that out. She should have checked way before this point and when she did finally inform us (we were getting ready to just walk out because we were annoyed) she blamed it on the manager. The restaurant is not a large operation, it would not have taken much to ask the chef when our order was going to be done. We did get the rest of our meal to go and they did comp us the entrees, but seriously? We left after over an hour of waiting and that is completely unacceptable. And note that this is not the first time we have dined in, every other time we have dined in the service is extremely slow and that is why we have switched to mainly ordering to-go. I don't know what it is, but dining in here has not been pleasant for us, we keep trying it out every few months to see if it's gotten better and, quite plainly, it hasn't. But the food is delicious and we'll continue to get take-away. read more

This place has HANDS DOWN the best pita bread and hummus. The bread is warm and fresh and the hummus has so much flavor. You can tell their stuff is made in house. The service is great and the atmosphere is fun. The falafel is fantastic! After passing by Olivit almost daily, we decided to stop in for lunch. Started with an appetizer of hummus and falafel. The hummus was delicious, falafel could be a little crispier but that's just our preference. Loved the pickled veggies that came as an accompaniment to the falafel. We ordered out entrées, the mixed grill and chicken shawarma plate, then waited for our soups to arrive. I had the lentil soup, very tasty!! Hubby ordered the spicy lamb soup, just enough spice to satisfy our palate without burning our tastebuds. Service was excellent; our waitress was friendly and attentive. The mixed grill was delicious, I don't think the chicken shawarma my hubby ordered was amazing BUT shawarma means many different things at different restaurants . just came here for dinner with the 'rents while in town for the holidays. this is one of the better meals i've eaten in Spring proper, and the ONLY falafel i've ever had in texas. we started with the aptly-named starter combo -- hummus, baba ganouch, and tabbouleh. i was in love with the hummus, and luckily the rest of the table was gaga over the baba ganouch. the accompanying pita bread was literally hot out the oven, and a perfect complement. i then had a cup of the lentil soup, which i'd recommend getting on any visit, and the falafel sandwich. the sandwich was good - the falafel itself was great -- but i wasn't crazy about all the fixins inside. next time i'd probably ask for no pickle, but definitely a strong submission. read more

This is family owned. We went late at night and were starving. The food was fantastic! I loved everything but the bobbaganoosh? I am pretty certain did not spell that right. We loved it !!! We had all vegetarian meal, and order the appetizer meal 1... Everything was excellent and the freshly baked bread with sesame seeds perfect. We also had falafel sandwich and baklava for dessert... The falafel was yummy and big! The baklava.... Let me say I'm very picky when it comes to this particular dessert... Theirs is just perfect!! I was not impressed with the service of this place. I think it is over priced for what you get. Some of the greens in my salad were spoiled and they served it to me anyway. The price had changed from what the menu said, the guy didn't tell me that over the phone, and he didn't tell me when I picked up my order. . . not until I handed him my money did he give my change, then I said "What??" He said, "oh yea prices went up, gas is high." I couldn't believe he wouldn't honor what the menu said. . . I think that may be illegal, but whatever. that is the last time I will ever go, The salad with chicken is good when it's not spoiled. I had a sandwich from there another time and it was just ok. . . not worth getting it here when there are so many other places really close by that do them way better. I ordered take out on a whim. I don't believe I will ever go back. I ordered the lamb quallaya sandwich special with fries and a drink, and a small order of falafel. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and the quallaya was flavorful. That was the positive. The falafel we cold and the taste was solid garlic; no parsley, onion,etc. At $5.49 I expected awesome! A place 1 mile west and another at the corner of Vets & 1960 have always fulfilled my desire for falafel and will in the future. The rest of the staff seemed to be in a rush to have me leave. Were they trying to close early? My fries were not with my order. I didn't miss them, but it's the principle of getting what you pay for. read more
