We were near completion of a total gut rehab of a 146 year old home, and realized we needed to hire a professional cleaning service prior to our furniture arrival. Though other services were less expensive and had stronger reviews, we decided to move forward with Olivias Cleaning Service as we wanted to support a minority owned business. We met with Katherine (manager/owner) who required a full walk-through of the home prior to quoting an exact price. We agreed on a price for the first and second cleaning (scheduled to occur two days later), and scheduled the service for 2 weeks later (once most of the messy work had been done). We also explained to Katherine that there may be a few contractors remaining in the home (including painters on door trim and an electrician) doing some minor touch up work. Katherine assured us that this was perfectly fine and that her team was used to working around contractors. On the day of the cleaning, 3 women showed up about 25 minutes late and unfortunately, none spoke English. Normally this would not be a concern, but because this was the first time they had been in my home, I was not able to communicate with them directly about where ideally to begin, and had to text one of Katherine's employees to relay messages to the team, etc. Around 4:00 pm, I received a text message that our credit card was charged for the remaining balance, and that on the return visit, they would clean everything that was not touched as well as a light clean on the areas that were cleaned. As I was in the home the entire day, I had no idea the cleaners had left or that there were areas that hadn't been cleaned. The charge for the second cleaning also jumped from the $400 to $650/$750. When asked why, I was told that because there were workers in the home, the cleaning team was not able to get to all the areas that needed to be cleaned. At no time during the day was I told that the team was unable to complete the job because of contractors. This could have been easily remedied if I was told this as I could have simply asked the contractors to step aside and work in another area of our 3 story home (so plenty of room to work around). Katherine explained to me that she and the cleaning crew were texting "all day," yet I was not contacted about this until after the team had left. My designer and I walked through the home and found several areas that were not touched including the master bath shower, entryway, floorboards in the great room, etc. There were no contractors in the great room or entryway, so not certain why these areas were not cleaned. We informed the company that we would be comfortable paying $400 and an additional $150 for the second cleaning, but after receiving a quote in writing for $400 and then coming back asking for up to $750 is deceitful and dishonest and we refused to pay the additional $200 dollars more than the written quote. Though the cleaning team did do a good job on the areas they did clean, they did not finish the initial cleaning that we were ultimately charged for and refused to come back to clean those areas for $550 that we were willing to pay. Katherine (manager/owner) was argumentative and dishonest, and clearly tried to take advantage of us. Note, that I expect Katherine to respond to this review with a snarky rebuttal based on our conversation, but it is shameful that greed overrides professionalism for this business owner. read more
